In previous coaching programs or methods we've used, we weren't able to monitor trends in classroom instruction at such a high level as we can with SibMe. Using their reports, we're able to plan professional development that truly meets the needs of our teachers, staff, and admin. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** There aren't many dislikes, honestly. For the sake of transparency and this review, there have been a few 'bugs' here and there. However (and this is huge), the support team is incredibly supportive, hungry for feedback, and has consistently provided support to help us overcome any glitch. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is allowing our district to take leaps forward with our coaching structure. The biggest problem Sibme has solved is the sharing, data storing, and viewing of videos. As you can imagine, Sibme's platform was literally made for this problem, as they have many, many tools, tips, and tricks we can use to maximize this feature. We've already overcome this hurdle is two months' time. I am kicking myself that we did not purchase Sibme sooner. ### 3. I appreciate the ability to type lengthy responses as needed. I appreciate being able to replay as needed. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** Perhaps the limitations of sound. Some of my candidates have low sound and there is very little range in the ability to turn up the volume. Not sure if Sibme is able to do anything about it, but it would be nice to be able to turn up the volume more. Also, the share menu needs help. The little, tiny square at the bottom for sharing both video and sound gets missed and my candidates end up sharing a couple of times before they find it. It would be nice to be able to go full screen and type comments without having to toggle between the two options. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is providing an online option to observations. Many candidates are farther away and make it difficult for in-person observations. ### 4. It is easy for teachers to upload the videos into their workspace and then comment on their videos while watching and reflecting on their craft. As the teacher begins to type in the comment space, the video self-pauses, allowing the teacher to organize the comment and pauses the video until the teacher is finished and saves the analysis. If the teacher or evaluator needs to change their reflection, it can be deleted or edited. The teacher's and evaluators' comments are time-stamped, allowing them to see when they commented during the video. Once the video is shared in the teacher's huddle, the evaluator can see it. Sibme sends a message to both the evaluator and the teacher when a comment is made. The evaluator can then watch the video, read and respond to the teacher's words, and continue with a back and forth comments. Educators can rewatch their videos throughout the year and see their growth. The video observations create dynamic conversations and allow both parties to create and watch videos on a schedule that works for them. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** The only downside of Sibme I have discovered is when the teacher is ready to share their videos in the huddle. The teacher clicks on their huddle, such as 22-23 Observations, and then shares. At the bottom of that drop-down menu is a box that says Share comments, tags and attachments. Many teachers tend to miss that box, creating back-and-forth emails from evaluators asking them to add their comments. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme allows for remote videos of teachers teaching, allowing teachers to see their abilities live on a video! So often, when being evaluated, a teacher relies on what the evaluator sees, but with videos, the teacher gets to see everything. Student behavior, which side of the room may be favored when moving, classroom set up, etc is apparent. It is a powerful tool for both the educator and evaluator. ### 5. I can video, time stamp comment, post questions and resources, annotate student work samples. It's all in 1. The platform is user friendly. The Sibme help team is amazing with support often within 1-2 minutes if you post a question in the chat. There are also so many recorded videos for various features that you can watch at your own speed as a learner. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** None at this time. Any concern we have with the functionality of the platform is brought up to Sibme and updated in a timely fashion for users. We have used Sibme as our cosching platform for years and it's amazing to see the continuous improvements and new features. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is helping me to enhance my coaching through video feedback, recorded cosching sessions, easy analysis of student work that doesn't always require me to be in-person. It really is allowing me to be more intentional and strategic with who and how I am coaching. ### 6. I also like the flexibility it gives me. I can watch and comment on lessons from anywhere at any time. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** The downside of Sibme is there is not as much face-to-face interaction so you can lose some of that rapport with the teacher if you are not careful. Unless you have a reallly really good setup, it can also be difficult to get the whole picture of the classroom as the Ipads can not always capture the entire room. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme allows teachers to tape what they want me to see instead of just random observations. It also frees up my schedule to meet with teachers instead of doing observations and feedback all of the time. ### 7. I appreciate the option to record on my phone and upload, or to record directly into sibme. It saves me time and storage on my phone. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** Sometimes there is a glitch with the time stamps, and I try to switch them, but the option disappears. I also sometimes have trouble renaming items because it will tell me the title already exists when it doesn't. I also wish I could clip and trim the video or pull out certain parts of the video when editing, instead of just cropping it. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is helping me with my student teaching. Covid changed so much about how we do things, and it has made observations in the classroom so much easier. They are always available to help faculty and students problem-solve. They have responded to our need to help students transfer the EdTPA to Pearson afficiently. This is especially helpful when working with new teachers because it provides a simple way to give just-in-time feedback for consideration. It also lets the new teacher get an accurate look at their reality rather than what they think is happening in the classroom. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** Sibme really is versatile and there are so many facets to the program that it takes a while to get a handle on using it most efficiently. The professional learning offered by Sibme is vital to really getting the most out of what the program offers. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is solving the problem of how to implement a district-wide induction model for our new teachers. This year, we will be using Sibme with our year 1 and year 2 teachers, and our hope is that teachers become very accustomed to using the program their first year and just take off with it their second year. ### 13. Peer-to-peer feedback and the opportunity for teachers to view the lesson are additional bonuses. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** Occasionally we have students in areas with a limited internet connection, which can make video upload difficult. Sibme does have a reasonable fee. Sibme provides us with a platform to do that. Students can practice the skills and strategies they learn in class. Watching themselves on video can make teachers feel vulnerable, but Sibme lowers anxiety by allowing them to upload videos of themselves in a private space and share them when they feel ready. Coaches can’t be everywhere, and video is a way to capture moments we might otherwise miss. I love the goal setting feature for PD: teachers set goals, collect evidence, and reflect on their learning.I also like the “library” where we can store video clips of our teachers using a variety of teaching strategies. Watching their colleagues use a strategy is powerful. When teachers watch videos from the internet they may say “our students can’t do that.” but when they see a strategy being used in their own school, they begin to see new possibilities. The Sibme team is wonderful. They respond immediately to any questions we have and they are constantly listening to feedback in order to make changes to the platform. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** This is not a fault of Sibme, but It was hard to use video coaching while we were masking. Voices on video are often difficult to hear, but when they were muffled by masks it was almost impossible. Last year we tended to use Sibme more as a space to collect student artifacts of learning. Since we are moving into more student-centered coaching we will probably begin to use Sibme as a place to collect evidence of impact on student learning, rather than a place to watch teachers in action. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sibme is adding features to allow for more collaboration on the platform, making it easier for us teachers and coaches to work together. ### 16. Time-annotated video, discussion boards, a resource hub, a library you can build, and on-demand professional learning modules are just a few things this platform provides to educators. Teachers seeing themselves and their colleagues teach and collaborating around that work are two of the most underutilized, yet most powerful forms of professional learning that exist. The platform is intuitive and easy to use so learning how to use it is quick and easy. Support both through their help desk and customer service managers is also easily accessible. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** Video is vulnerable work, so sometimes getting people to see the value of it at first can be challenging to get people onboard. Their trust in the person recommending video self-reflection, coaching, and collaboration will often be the deciding factor. While that is not the fault of Sibme, it is something that makes it challenging when you recommend it to others who have not experienced the power of video in educational learning. I also wish their portfolio goal-setting piece was a little less cumbersome to use and a little more visual. Part of that has to do with the fact that the other pieces of the platform are so easy to use and intuitive, that it takes some adjustment to use that one piece of the platform. **What problems is Sibme solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everyone is looking for a "magic bullet" to improve teaching and student learning. This has even accelerated as a result of the pandemic. However, true solutions are not going to be found in "programs." They are going to be found in "people." Sibme allows professional learning in a building or a district to allow an organization to leverage video through a secure FERPA and COPPA-compliant platform to level the silos that exist in organizations with schedules. Teachers can watch themselves and share video of their teaching and their students' learning anytime, anyplace. Teachers can view video, make time-stamped comments, ask questions, share resources, and learn from one another. The most direct route to improved teaching and learning is to refocus and support teachers on their teaching by having them reflect on their own practice in a safe environment with colleagues and coaches in response to video evidence of the instruction delivered in their own classrooms. A YouTube Video of someone teaching in another school with another school culture may help you with ideas to improve teaching and learning, but how much more powerful is it when teachers see their colleagues teaching and colleagues can learn from one another with everyone in the same school culture? ### 18. The goals feature was something that I thought needed improvement, but I think it has been improved since I used it 8 months ago. Currently, my favorite feature is the time-stamped comments. The fact that it is FERPA protected is huge, and my teachers and I used when coaching was only done virtually during hte pandemic, and now even more so now that I'm back to getting into their classrooms. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** The only downside is that there is a cost. I can access these videos through "Huddles." Here, I can view the video, stop, start, review, analyze, etc... Also, I can make comments and provide positive feedback to the student. **What do you dislike about Sibme?** When commenting in the comment section, the type is straightforward, without allowing for spaces between paragraphs or, for example, indentations for bullet points.
