## Packback Reviews
  ### 1. Packback Makes Responsible AI and Stronger Writing Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keirra W. | Assistant Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I like the fact that Packback allows me to incorporate the use of AI into my course. It enables my students to use AI responsibly while learning how to strengthen their writing skills. The Deep Dive assignments encourage students to exercise and enhance their writing skills. The feedback feature is a huge plus as it highlights grammatical and mechanical aspects of writing that need to be refined. I love the discussion portal as it encourages students to seek scholarly literature to support their discussion, and is far more interactive than traditional discussion platforms.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I do not have any cons to address. The platform works perfectly for my needs!

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many of my students struggled with writing, especially writing scientifically. With Packback, students now have a platform that helps guide and strengthen their writing. The benefit of using Packback is that my students now get constructive feedback that is aligned to my expectations for each assignment.

  ### 2. Attentive Customer Service and Strong Student Engagement with Packback

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lise-Pauline B. | Professor of English, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

There are so many aspects of Packback that I appreciate, especially their customer service. My rep is very attentive and consistently keeps me informed about new opportunities. My students are highly engaged with Packback, even though there is a learning curve at first. However, once a student understands the platform and works through that initial adjustment, the feedback has been very positive. We have also participated in several professional development opportunities with my co-workers, and I encourage them to use the platform as well. Moving forward, I plan to explore the deep dive features in more detail.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I’d like to dive deeper into the Deep Dives. I think they’re a really cool feature, but I just haven’t had the time to explore them fully yet. The only issues I’ve run into so far are students having access problems because of their high schools’ firewalls. Also, I think more videos showing students how to structure a post would be helpful. My students tend to struggle at the beginning with understanding how to post, so having an example post to reference would be great as well.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was having trouble getting my students to engage on the LMS discussion board. Since I started using Packback, I’ve noticed that my students are much more engaged and genuinely enjoy interacting with each other. Their curiosity scores are high, and they really like the sparks and pins, which seems to keep the conversations going.

  ### 3. Boosts Student Engagement, Streamlines Grading, and Delivers Excellent Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard A. | Associate Professor of Classical Studies, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It solves a big problem for me: how to keep student engaged on a weekly basis while developing their own voice and critical thinking skills. As I have been forced to teach bigger and bigger classes, I fear students become passive without some constant interaction. The asynchronous discussion Packback provides solves this problem wonderfully, and is superior to the Canvas discussion tools I had used before. I especially love the ease with which I can check on the group's performance, personalize feedback to students who are missing work, and praise and feature students who are doing well. I can bring their questions into class and use that as the start of the discussion, which is a great boost for them. Also, the Deep Dive function has greatly increased my efficiency in grading papers. I had to do read 160 last term, and it wasn't a nightmare! Lastly, the person-to-person interface with Packback's employees has been consistently excellent. I have never had a problem they couldn't solve, and it is usually taken care of well within 24 hours. That really made the difference for me as instructor.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The name: nobody knows what it means and they constantly confuse it with backpack. There are fiddly things about integration with Canvas, but they seem to be getting better. It's just that first-time adopters have a learning curve. Luckily the PB personnel set you up and guide you, so you can definitely get it done.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PB is helping me to teach classes of 80 students while not sacrificing 1) student engagement through weekly discussion and 2) regular student writing assignments. I had long ago sworn an oath NEVER to become a professor who just gives multiple choice tests, but I am getting little support as my class enrollments increase. So without a teaching assistant, I have to do it all. Packback has made me more effective as an instructor with large groups and I actually enjoy the student discussion more than ever now, since their question-based discussions take me far and wide, way beyond the topics I might propose myself.

  ### 4. Great Insights with Curiosity Scores, But Integration and Cost Need Improvement

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather Y. | Instructional Assistant Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I appreciate the curiosity scores assigned to the discussion posts. They add an interesting dimension to the conversations and encourage more thoughtful participation. Customer support is a value, as they are traditionally quick to respond to me or my students and address their problems/concerns about the platform. Once the students are in the program, it is pretty easy for them to navigate it and know what needs to be done.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The limited formatting options in Deep Dives are frustrating, and the high cost is a significant concern for me. Additionally, the integration with Canvas is not as seamless as I would like, and it does not sync with the Canvas calendar to display student due dates. Implementing it is a challenge in my class because of the limited formatting and design features of the assignments I have students complete. This forces me to require students to submit part of the assignment in Packback and the other part, which requires more specific formatting that Packback doesn't allow, in Canvas. This is a considerable frustration for students semester after semester.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

While it doesn't address a specific business problem, it is more suited to tackling general issues that students face. In online discussion programs, conversations often tend to focus on the 'low-hanging fruit.' The curiosity score, along with the features that encourage students to ask and answer questions, provides an effective way for them to engage more deeply and better articulate or explore their interests.

  ### 5. Curiosity Score Makes Student Assessment Effortless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ManhattanXProject . | Assistant Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

My favorite feature about Packback is the AI-grading system or curiosity score. This feature allows me to focus more on the content of the students' posts and provide better feedback rather than having to determine where their grade falls on a particular scoring range. It also helps by identifying the minimum curiosity score that students have to achieve to receive full credit for their submission. When students are aware of the minimum curiosity score their post has to reach, they have a better understanding of what they have to achieve to master their discussion board assignments. Overall, quicker grading, more efficient and useful feedback for students, and a better understanding of the requirements for discussion board assignments is why I continue to use Packback in my courses.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I would appreciate being included in the message chain whenever students' posts are flagged for potential AI use or other concerns.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I really love Packback's automated feature for recording references in the writing assignments. I don't think I've ever seen a better system for implementing this onto students' papers. My students are always amazed when I show them how it works, and it lets them focus exclusively on writing instead of how to format their works cited page.

  ### 6. Great for Collaborative Conversation, but the AI needs more Responsibilities

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian S. | Adjunct Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I use Packback as a remote professor. I work full-time as a remote worker consulting for Operations Management. Packback is a platform where I can simulate e-mail conversation among collaborative co-workers. The AI tutor provides simple and direct feedback to improve casual writing. The application also supports references and images. This provides a forum where students must proofread and take feedback in order to be confident (with an AI score of 75 out of 100) in sending their response.
I often challenge the system to meet the needs of my students, and the support team usually finds a way that we can make the application work for us.
Students admit that they find the tool very intutitive and easy to use, when they remember to submit their responses.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Packback is designed as a school tool instead of a proctored collaboration tool. I would like it to return to its organic roots where conversation and dialog was encouraged. I believe too much emphasis is placed on submitting a comment at the right time and in the right topic. Instead, I would like to see an approach that rewards "first to comment" and "high value" questions and responses. This type of scoring would better mimic the organic valuation of opinions in a remote collaboration environment.
I would also like to see a way to AI-generatively harvest some of the conversation. I believe that the AI could be doing so much more: summarizing conversations and creating a table of alternatives, creating conversational feedback for instructors to proof and send to students.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pakcback allows me to focus on directing the topics and tones of the conversation. Packback evaluates writing and encourages, through quantitative scoring, students to improve their writing style.

  ### 7. Packback Transforms Engagement and Writing with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amy C. | Associate Professor and Chair of the Biology Department, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I was an early adopter of Packback at my institution, so I have been using it for many semesters now. I have used the Discussion Questions and I created a Topic of the Week that is related to something biology-related for my seniors to help keep them up to date. I have great participation and very good responses from students. I also love the Deep Dive Essays. Having the AI component helps me grade assignments and helps students learn to write better.
Overall, Packback gives me another dimension to my classes that I would not have. Discussion boards are boring and don't really help engage students in course content but Discussion Questions do.

The support I have received from John Kaczorowski has been phenomenal! Having him as a sounding board for things I want to do with my class and having him as a resource has been wonderful.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Nothing. I have enjoyed using all aspects of Packback. I am not even sure I use it to its true potential but what I do use is great.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main thing that Packback has helped with is engaging students in discussions in my online class. Far better than using something inside our LMS.

  ### 8. Encourages Student Exploration and Helps student learning outcomes in large classes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The format encourages students to explore a topic within the class that they find interesting, which they find really motivating and engaging. I was surprised at how much students got engaged with the assignments when they started writing about something they were really interested in exploring. Packback also gives students feedback on reference and citation use, and ensures that AI generated content is limited in their assignment submissions. All of this is managed by giving students direct feedback and the ability to improve their work iteratively. Some students have even noted that this is a great jumping off point to help get them started on research ideas. And importantly, packback can provide this type of learning support in very large online classes, where instructor time, resources, and support would not make this level of feedback possible otherwise. An excellent critical thinking based assignment for large classes! Also, the platform is very easy to link to a course Canvas page, which is easily done with support from their great customer service.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Packback doesn't have the ability to filter for content, only for depth of the discussion and other important writing and citation building skills. This means students could theoretically write about aliens and still get full credit (yes, this has been attempted in my class). So you still do need to put some time into skimming through the posts to ensure students are on topic, but overall this is still a lot less time spent in grading as there would be otherwise.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is solving the problem of how to incorporate critical thinking assignments that engage students in higher levels of learning, when teaching very large classes and/or online classes, where this type of assignment is difficult to achieve. This really supports student learning on multiple levels that I would not be able to provide to students in-depth otherwise.

  ### 9. Packback has been super useful

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lynette W. | Adjunct Instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The discussions are easy to use and the curiosity score helps to ensure an appropriate level of thoughtfulness and effort in the each student's engagement with content. The ability to set up rubrics, prompts, and other criteria make it easy to grade the Deep Dives and enhance the quality of student's work. I am just exploring the Polls, but am excited to use that feature more in classroom discussions.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Nothing specific - I think it is all upside in my experience so far.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It would be great for assignment deadlines in Packback to sync with Blackboard to help my students stay on top of deadlines more easily.

  ### 10. Exceptional Tool for Engaging Students and Streamlining Grading

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyrone W. | Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

In my opinion, Packback has been useful in enhancing student engagement and promoting higher-order thinking in my Exercise Physiology course. I regularly use the question-driven discussion model because it encourages my students to move beyond rote memorization and actively apply course concepts. One of the most valuable features is the real-time, AI-powered feedback, which guides students toward improving the depth, clarity, and originality of their contributions. Additionally, the platform’s automatic grading system significantly reduces administrative workload, allowing me to focus more on teaching and providing personalized feedback rather than manual scoring. The emalied highlights are also really helpful. This combination of pedagogical rigor and time-saving functionality makes Packback an exceptional resource.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

There is a learning curve for both students and instructors.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of low-quality and surface-level engagement in my online course. It does this by encouraging students to ask open-ended, curosity-based questions and provide thoughtful responses. It also solves the issue of time-consuming grading and feedback.

  ### 11. Immediate Writing Feedback and Easier-to-Read Discussions for Instructors

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maythee R. | University Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The help with writing that it offers students and the immediate feedback. Also, the ability to upload links and GIFS/videos. As an instructor, it's easier for me to read through responses than Canvas' discussion forums.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I don't like that it breaks up the responses into multiple pages instead of a continual flow - would be easier for scrolling purposes. The cost can also be offputting to students. The Deep Dives set up is a bit clunky visually, especially the prompt section.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's streamlined discussion forums and for online classes where it's essential that's a great time saver. Students seem to engage more with it.

  ### 12. Engaging Assignments and Easy Grading, But Polling Integration Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Packback allows me to give meaningful assignments for students to apply concepts we have been learning in class in a real world setting. It allows for ease of scoring without need to manually grade each one. Feedback can be given to the class as a whole during discussion but each student has received a score.

The support from the experience managers has always been excellent. They have helped me in setting up the courses and were a great source of knowledge and support as i originally was determining how I could best set up assignments for particular courses.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I would use polling more often if the polling questions could be easily integrated. The ability to embed polling questions in my power point slides and not require jumping back and forth between applications in class would be a significant improvement..

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to give meaningful assignments to a large group of students without taking hours of time to grade. Students receive feedback faster.

  ### 13. Instructional AI for Teachers and Students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather G. | Associate Professor of Academic Development, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Adding Packback to my courses has lead to deeper student engagement, improved writing outcomes, and saves me time by allowing me to provide quicker feedback to students. The AI Writing Tutor in the Writing Assignments is very valuable to students, especially developmental-level students, as it provides prompting questions if they are experiencing writer's block (while not giving them the answers--a student told me, "It's asking me the same questions you would ask me in the tutoring lab!" The depth of student responses in the Discussion Assignments is much improved over discussion boards in our LMS, too. Overall, Packback is a way of "steering into the skid" of incorporating AI into the classroom. It is easy to get students set up in the platform, as the customer support from the Packback team is second to none: creating a 15 or 30 minute meeting with a Packback support representative can have you set up and ready to use your classes right away. It integrates very smoothly with our LMS, so students can access Packback assignments very easily.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

My only suggestion for improvement is on the Discussions--I wish that student replies to their classmates were indented in some way so that I could easily see which post they are responding to.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Saving me time while grading--I don't have to spend time correcting grammar issues now.

  ### 14. Packback is a perfect tool to encourage and facilitate discussion with students

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa D. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I cannot speak highly enough of their customer support. The curriculum consultants, in particular, are extremely helpful. They listen to your concerns, they express enthusiasm about new features, and they will be your biggest cheerleaders when you're mired down in the midst of a school year. I've never worked with an ed-tech company that almost exclusively staffs former educators. I have been working with Packback for about 4 years now, and one of the best things about their customer service is that they LISTEN TO FEEDBACK and implement changes that teachers need/want.
For the students, I love that Packback assists students in checking credibility of sources, in monitoring their grammar, and in strengthening their claims.
For me, I like how easy it is to use; I can connect Packback to Schoology, I can set how often I use it, I can change due dates as necessary. I find that it closely mimics college style discussion boards, so my students will feel comfortable when they make that transition.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

While the AI feedback is helpful, I've had to create new rules for my students to follow when generating Packback discussion questions or responses as they have found "loopholes" to increase their Creativity score (including a source without actually referencing it; using various text treatments like bold or underline when it doesn't make sense; needless photos).

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback helps me determine if my students may have used AI to write responses, but it also helps show students how AI can be used appropriately in an educational setting.

  ### 15. Packback improves student engagement and discussion quality

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen L. | Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Logistics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

As a professor, I use Packback in all my courses. It is especially helpful in my MBA Marketing Management class. Students engage more thoroughly with the course material. In Packback, student responses to one another's posts are much more thorough than in the LMS discussion boards.

Packback provides intelligent writing support, moderation, automated checking of specified rubric items, and an easily understood discussion scoring system. It speeds up grading, making it especially useful for large online classes.

It serves as a grammar checker and gives students feedback as they write. It has improved submissions in all of my classes.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The writing section allows students to submit late work. All have to do is push one button. The discussions require that I give students extensions to preset deadlines. With up to 120 students in a class, that can be annoying. Also, some students take longer to become accustomed to the platform. Most, however, adapt quickly.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student responses to posts by other students were shallow on Canvas. In Packback, their responses are far deeper and more thorough.
It also speeds up grading first drafts of sections of my students' portfolio papers. I give feedback in three sections. It autmates processes like counting references and meeting length minimums and staying below length maximums. it gives students feedback on their scores as they write.

  ### 16. Packback works well and does what I need

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew B. | instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Packback is great for several reasons. It harnesses AI resources to assist your students (not generative AI, mind you), with grammar suggestions and prompts. It has a generative AI check that at the very least requires students to pause and think about what they are submitting. It's easy to use for faculty and students--my grading with Packback is way easier and more convenient than with Canvas Speed Grader. It has a cost to the students, to be sure, but that is the world we live in with generative AI. Their staff are great and easy to work with. They are very available and responsive.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Do I still have some issues with students submitting generative AI work? Yes. There is no perfect system. Packback is still the best I've found, and for that reason I'll continue to use it religiously.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of discouraging generative AI use for my students in the online class environment. A. it has AI features; B. it checks for generative AI. Both discourage the need/desire for students to use other, generative AI resources.

  ### 17. Real student engagement with great faculty support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael K. | Professor of Anthropology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I teach a 3-3 course load at my institution and have incorporated Packback into the curriculum for most of my classes over the last five years or so. It is easy to integrate into my classes (and when I need help, customer support is available and responsive). My students' learning is deepened and improved through Packback discussions because they are able to engage with course content in community and between class sessions. My favorite way of using Packback is to create guide posts that encourage my students to explore an important topic or reflect on a topic of their choosing related to material we're covering in class. When I incorporate themes from their discussions into a class session, they often demonstrate a higher level of engagement because I am drawing on and making public their own ideas and questions. In addition to these benefits, as a faculty member I'm thrilled with Packback's customer support. I work closely and reliably with one specialist, who personally knows what I'm teaching and my pedagogical methods, and so is able to target my needs and offer relevant and actionable solutions and insights.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The cost for my students. I teach at an institution with many first-generation and underresourced students, for whom purchasing a textbook alone can create financial hardship.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback helps me solve the problem of how to increase student engagement in their learning

  ### 18. Game-changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dragana D. | Assistant Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

From an instructor's perspective, Packback is incredibly easy to use. The onboarding experience was smooth, with clear guidance and support every step of the way. Their customer support team is responsive and helpful, always quick to address any questions or issues. Some of my favorite features include the customizable grading rubrics, automatic plagiarism detection, and the weekly email summaries, which keep me updated on student participation and performance without having to dig through the platform. One of the biggest benefits is the time saved on grading—the AI-assisted evaluation tools significantly reduce the manual workload, allowing me to focus more on providing meaningful feedback and supporting student learning. This goes for both the discussions and deep-dives. Another major strength is the flexibility it offers to students. They can contribute on their own schedules, which has been particularly helpful for non-traditional and online learners. The platform also provides a writing lab that students can utilize for any other class where guidance on writing is needed.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Sometimes the AI-assisted grading gives points for images and citations- which is fine but, it takes away from the points needed for the actual post. So I will have students with grade written posts receive a small number of points than those who posted a semi good written response but included images of textbooks or articles.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time-consuming grading of discussion posts – Packback’s AI-assisted feedback and auto-scoring features reduce the hours I would normally spend reviewing and grading weekly posts and papers. This saves me significant time while maintaining high academic standards. Low student engagement in traditional discussion forums – The platform encourages students to ask thought-provoking questions and engage in meaningful conversations, which has led to more authentic participation and deeper critical thinking.

  ### 19. Grading More Efficient and More Student Engagement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael B. | Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I have used Packback in my courses each semester since Fall 2023—approximately six semesters total. Over the past two years, I have observed dramatic improvements in student writing over the course of each term. Packback has also proven to be an excellent tool for fostering student engagement, both on the platform and in the classroom.

From an instructor’s perspective, Packback is intuitive and easy to use. The integration with Blackboard LMS has steadily improved, making the platform even more seamless to incorporate into my course structure. On the rare occasions I’ve had questions, my Experience Manager and the Packback help desk have been responsive and helpful, providing quick and effective support.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

No tool is perfect, but I have been impressed with Packback's effort to improve the platform. My only real critique is that changes to the system are often rolled out in the middle of a semester. This has resulted instances of having to change how I used the tool and then convey those changes to my students pretty quickly. Granted these changes were relatively small, but they were frustrating to engage with. The Packback helpdesk was a great resource each time this occurred.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students need help developing their writing skills. Packback does this by giving them live feedback on their writing before they submit their assignments. Packback also helps with grading my giving suggested scores about elements of writing style and grammar that I can assign as is or edit as I see fit.

  ### 20. Streamlined Grading and Fairness, but Match System Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Imran H. | Scholarly Assistant Professor and Director of Online Programs, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Ease of use and grading is much more streamlined, fair, and less subjective. I don't have to spend so much time reviewing and evaluating citations. Customer support has been prompt, responsive, and effective! It has had very few issues integrating with Canvas.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The match and message system could be better by being alphabetical!

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increasing student to student interaction, while assisting me in grading students on a fair level with high standards.

  ### 21. I prefer using Packback for student discussion over other options available.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It makes organizing and grading discussions easy and efficient

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The fact that you cannot deep-link the discussion assignments has been an issue. Students have struggled to find the link that they need to use to access the platform.
Also, the frequent turnover in staff is frustrating. Anytime I need support I have to search through my emails to see who my current support person is and as soon as I finally memorize that person's name they get replaced.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allow for topic discussion in an online class while also making grading efficient

  ### 22. Excellent Essay Grading Insights, But Pricing Can Be a Hurdle

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will M. | Associate professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Deep Dives for essay grading -- esp. helpful for grad classes.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

sometimes the cost can be a little bit of an obstacle

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At this point my main use of the software/LMS is for grading for my classes--definitely a time saver--but a secondary use is checking for plagiarism/AI use that's not authorized.

  ### 23. A Constant Classroom Companion

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abigail B. | Assistant Department Chair, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I teach several high school level writing classes and have benefitted from Packback's ability to provide feedback based on the various rubrics in each of my classes. Students also appreciate the chat feature as it helps them get ideas and jumpstart their ideas. I love that this program makes grading easier but also removes the stigma or AI in the classroom.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Some of the shorter activities are unrealistic to use because of how long they take to access and the difficulty of finding them. There are some user interface difficulties but students do become more familiar with the UI as time goes on.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps students gain feedback from a variety of writing rubrics and also get on-the-spot feedback when I am not able to talk with them immediately.

  ### 24. User-Friendly and Educational, But Needs More Assignment Flexibility

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elsio W. | Assistant professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

User-friendly, promotes education and discussion within peers.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Lack of flexibility to create rules within assignments, e.g., password for access, prevents either answer or questions, etc.
Not easy to get access to students' answers in bulk

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping students enhance their writing skills and facilitating grading in my large-enrollment courses.

  ### 25. Excellent Platform for Student Engagement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jody B. | Faculty, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

A great way to interact with the students. Also the student to student engagement is fabulous.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

There is nothing about Packback that I don't like. It's very user friendly with amazing support staff.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are no problems at this time.

  ### 26. Sparks student creativity and helps refine their writing.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It helps to outsource some of the student feedback on little things like grammar, spelling, citing sources, etc. Then I can engage with the highest level of student submissions. It's one of the better forms of AI use that I've seen in higher ED.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The cost, honestly. I have a lot of first generation, low-income students and some of the struggle to afford the subscription.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping students think of their own questions and ideas and engage with their classmates. It's helpful to me in my online asynchronous classes because the discussion boards were always so boring before Packback!

  ### 27. Packback is a way to get kids writing and using feedback.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raoul R. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I appreciate that the platform is flexible and can be used in various ways. I am always learning a new trick to make it more engaging for students and efficient for me. Students get feedback and are engaged with their writing, which makes my job easier. The program works with Canvas and can even add grades without any problems, and using it with students becomes a seamless and easy regular part of class. Students often return the next year and say they noticed the program helped them improve as writers.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

As with anything, you can always want more, but the team is responsive, and new features are always improving it.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students are writing more regularly and getting regular feedback.

  ### 28. Student friendly virtual writing tutor.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

We love that students are easily able to work with the AI to improve their writing. It is like having an online writing tutor in their ipad. Rolling out packback within the classroom was easy, students had no issues using the tool from day one. Many of our students chose to use it on every writing assignment even when it wasn't required because they realized they wrote bette with assistance. The support offered by the support team is amazing. As teacher Packback helps us quickly and easily.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Most of the time the integration with Canvas was fairly easy, but sometimes the grade integration would struggle. The only real issue we have is that our 6th graders don't understand some of the grammar aspects such as passive voice so I wish I could tell it to not look for that specific thing.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback has been a wonderful addition to the classroom. Rather than one teacher trying to provide meaningful feedback on 25 students' writing all at the same time, I am able to have students interact with packback to work to improve their own writing. This gives me more time to assist students who are struggling with what to write.

  ### 29. Third semester with PackBack and getting better all the time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris I. | Adjunct Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I use Packback for the weekly writing assignments (one question by Wednesday midnight and responses to two classmates' questions by Friday midnight) and the "deep dive" essays. As I just finished my third semester using Packback, I find that I am more adept at it, and my students are becoming more active with it.

On the weekly Question/Responses, I have found that my "Guideposts," posted at the beginning of the week, encourage students by giving them some advance insight into what we will be covering in the coming week. Thus, they can fashion their initial questions to focus on issues that will be relevant. My first semester, I left it too wide-open, so the questions ranged far and wide. With greater focus, I am getting more thoughtful questions and responses, with some threads going five or six deep. I try to exercise restraint by no "intervening," as this is the opportunity for peers to debate with their peers.

For the "deep dive" essays, Packback checks for taboo AI-generated work, does a word count, and provides guidance for grammar and style. *If* my students pay attention to the editing advice, their writing improves dramatically. I have my students upload their essays to Packback and still hand me a hard copy, so I can kick back in my recliner to mark-up the papers.

Packback was somewhat difficult in my first semester. By this, my third semester, it is much easier, as I can navigate around better and use tools that I have learned to employ. BTW, I am 73 years old and, typically of my generation, am somewhat slow at adopting and adapting to new technologies, but practice, practice, practice.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Really, I have nothing to dislike about Packback. Being 73 years old, my first encounter with Packback was somewhat difficult. However, after just three semesters, it has become much easier and more useful. Customer service is prompt and instructive.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not permit my students to turn in AI-generated essays, so Packback checks for that. As well, with the weekly question/response assignments, it forces my students to keep up with their assigned readings.

  ### 30. Promotes professional writing & clear communication

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Packback has been beneficial to my courses as a means to gain valuable feedback and have student perspectives shared in my online courses. It is easy for students to see an online discussion board and copy/paste or reshare the same ideas, but Packback makes that harder. It encourages student to write professionally and use clear communication.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The only negative feedback I have ever gotten from students is that they have to pay for the service. College is expensive, but one the things that makes Packback so great is they can integrate with your campus bookstore so the extra cost can be used by loans/grants etc. I also make it very clear to my students at the beginning of the course there is no textbook to buy. This perspective helps students a lot. As with all technology there are glitches, but the customer service at Packback is phenomenal!

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback is encouraging the use of professional writing and clear communication. Many students do not realize until they start using the software how much better their writing has improved.

  ### 31. Great experiences working with Packback and the Packback team!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lowell J. | Lecturer, Instructor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The proofreading tool saves me quite a bit of time reviewing and re-reviewing submissions.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Providing seminars for those who supervise Instructors using Packback helps them better understand the true value of Packback when used in the classroom.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback provided me with a tool that lightened my administrative load without compromising my ability to be involved with the class learning journey. It also provided me with an excellent system for assessing the students' knowledge and understanding of the learning objectives I often used as prompts for their writing assignments. The AI writing assistant gave me back the time I was involved with construction and grammar corrections often needed with undergraduate work.

  ### 32. Impactful Tool for Teaching

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It facilitated truly engaging discussions between students and the writing function assisted them with crafting outlines and writing a draft for their term paper. It provided instant feedback on writing and the use of peer reviewed sources.

The staff were incredibly helpful, from assisting with set up prior to the course to regular check ins and any needed troubleshooting. Staff also help me brainstorm creative and engaging ways to utilize the platform.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Students initially meet new technology for courses with some level of resistance, but I find that this wanes over time. I preferred an approach where I had students post discussion questions for topics I provided as opposed to everyone posting questions initially - it seemed to be better received.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assistance with grading and writing for students. It saves time and helps students to find ways to use AI responsibly. Acknowledging that AI is the wave of the future I believe it's truly important to have students use it in a responsible manner understanding that it can be used as a supplement and an important tool in their tool belt but not as a replacement for their learning. The design of the platform being instructional as opposed to merely generative truly guides students in how they should use AI. I look forward to continuing to develop my skills in the platform and finding new ways to use it to engage my students.

  ### 33. Packback - A Professor's Secret Weapon

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janiece S. | Adjunct Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It's ease of use, integration, customer support, features, and implementation!

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

They have not added a video feature yet.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback is solving some of the most common pain points I face as an instructor—keeping students engaged, improving their writing, and making grading more efficient.

It gets students thinking more critically and participating in discussions in a way that feels organic and intentional. I’ve seen stronger writing and deeper questions, and that’s because the platform gives students immediate, constructive feedback that helps them improve before they hit submit.

Grading is also a breeze. Once I set the parameters, Packback takes care of it—fairly, consistently, and in alignment with what I’ve outlined. That’s a huge time-saver for me.

And honestly, the support team makes the experience even better. The reps don’t just onboard you—they check in throughout the semester and make sure your students have what they need to succeed. I never feel like I’m using the platform alone. It truly feels like a teaching partner.

  ### 34. Engaging Discussion Boards Elevate Learning, But Pricey

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The discussion boards raise the quality of engagement. Students really get interested in each other's posts, and I see them asking questions that reflect deep thought.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The cost - I hate making my students pay so much for it.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback is helping users engage with each other at a deeper level, without me having to moderate or review their posts.

  ### 35. Dynamic tool to engage students with and beyond course content.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I can focus on the content and not spelling and grammar! It opens up discussion to what the students are interested in, rather than a narrow scope from the instructor's perspective.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I wish I could better cusomize acceptance of late work, and late grades. I still manually enter grades in because I give 10% grade deduction for each day the initial question is late, up to four days.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't have time to deduct points for word counts, grammar, spelling, and plagiarism. Packback helps me meet the college requirement of student interaction for an online class format, while allowing me as the teacher the ability to focus on the content and discussion.

  ### 36. Packback Creates Community and Engages Students

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Fine Art | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Packback helps build community in my classes. It's interactive and engages my students to connect with each other through responding to each other's writing. Packback is easy to use and the customer support is quick and responsive.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Grades do not post immediately. It takes a few hours to load grades.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback helps to create a participation assignment for my class so I can track attendance.

  ### 37. The sliced bread of college teachin

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

The ease at which you can tailor it for your classes and the ease at which you can use it.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The downsides are the writing assignment text boxes, it would be nice to have greater functionality like MS Word.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping my manage a large class (400+) students, making sure students keep up with their work.

  ### 38. Pacback Is an excellent tool for professors and students to use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason P. | Teaching Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

What makes Packpack especially valuable is its ability to enable both students and faculty to engage and provide feedback more attentively and in real time.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I would just say the cost of Packback is starting to be a little too expensive for students.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to have converstations in classes that are remote or online.

  ### 39. Packback Delivers a Great Product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa A. | Clinical Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I like the ease of use of incorporating AI tools and the customer service is excellent.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

The Packback calendar needs to be automatically synced with the Canvas platform.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing instant feedback to the student and helping improve student's writing skills.

  ### 40. Packback Makes my Students Stronger more Sensitive Writers and Expressors!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Actually my students grow closer and more appreciative of their peers. It is easy to use. The more that my students use it, the more they value it.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Have not been able to identify a downside from Packback itself. Many students forget due dates.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback is instrumental in helping my students become stronger writers! They are learning to research for evidence to strengthen their opinions and curiosity.

  ### 41. Better used for helping students, NOT for assignments.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan Z. | Student

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Packback?**

Packback is easy to navigate, but that's about it.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I really don't like packback due to how the platform is used. Instead of using it to help students better seek help from their peers, it is used as an assignment system where you must ask a few questions and answer a few a week, which grows stale very fast as the pool of interesting and answerable questions diminishes exponentially, and the things you can ask diminish greatly as well. overall, I wish teachers would use packback in a better way, and the main hindrance from this happening is packback insisting this is how it should be used.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Literally nothing. I am getting zero benefits from this.

  ### 42. Packback is a great learning tool for college students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Packback?**

I like that you can search questions and respond to others

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Sometimes there are duplicate questions, the scoring is rigged

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packback allows students to gain points for participation and engagement

  ### 43. It is amazing!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It helps show how you can improve your post and share your best work!

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

Nothing! It is so helpful in sharing research and asking questions with good sources.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are sharing new research, asking questions, and responding using studies and articles. This is so helpful in learning new information and sharing new research.

  ### 44. This website is okay at best.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Packback?**

It could be used to instigate conversation; however, this should be used in classes related to conversation, not classes designed for the student to be learning maximum information on biology/chemistry.etc. If the class is based on learning, such as the majority of science and chemistry classes, this should not be used. It distracts students from learning by making them concerned about if they have or have not answered their PackBack questions instead of them learning the information their instructor just taught them.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I have been required by a class to participate in PackBack. However, this website has done nothing but stress me out. I would not at all recommend it to teachers and it has zero ability for you to look at what you have posted unless you are willing to scroll through ALL OF THE PREVIOUS POSTS to find your own. This is incredibly irritating when you are a college student simply trying to make sure all your homework is done, but you know have to waste an hour of time you could be doing other school work to simply ensure you did the packback part of some other random class. Zero of the graphic designer/user-friendly functions of this website have actually been helpful, in fact, I have found zero aspects of this website user-friendly or helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Packback:**

Do not use this website. It is unintuitive and ridiculously hard to get in contact with customer service.

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has not given me zero business benefits. I would not AT ALL use this website for business benefits.

  ### 45. Creative and Informative

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Asya M. | Level lll Student Supervisor Service Center Receptionist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Packback?**

What I like best about Packback Questions, is that it is a way to step outside of the box for the course you're enrolled into. It lets students gain a better perspective and view on different areas in whatever topic you're learning about from different backgrounds, cultures, communities and etc. As college students, sometimes we feel as though we do not take much from the courses and are just going to maintain a high GPA, but creating platforms like Packback generates a way for students to have some knowledge on real-world experience and background. Learning from other's experiences and views can be a big help and I think Packback lets you have access to viewing how other students feel or think about certain topics.

**What do you dislike about Packback?**

I dislike the fact that it costs $18 to sign up for Packback, It's like a discussion board or forum, I do not agree with the pricing with this company. I kind of felt like why are they taking my money, when our school has a online portal where the professor can almost just do exactly what packback is doing. I also disliked the few requirements Packback or my professor requested. We had to make sure we answered two questions weekly and also posted a question weekly. Sometimes you would run out of questions but I guess this is the point of getting your brain to think.

**Recommendations to others considering Packback:**

Definitely lower the cost for student fee for accessing this platform, I've heard a lot of students talk about this problem... But I guess since it is required for the course, students will have to pay it, it is just a big inconvenience to us students

**What problems is Packback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping future employees gain critical and creative thinking skills while formulating effective questions and also by answering deep thought questions on a weekly basis.
