"Effortless Communication with Stellar Flexibility"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I use Mattermost at work for inside company communication, and I think it's really easy to use. I like how it can send and receive every type of information, like text, photos, files, and zip files, which is super handy. It's fast to use and I can choose between the desktop version, web, or mobile app, and they are all comfortable to use. I have also connected it with my job's mailbox, allowing me to save every chat with my boss in my mailbox. The initial setup was easy, and everything is simple to find in the app. I think Mattermost is one of the best, and I can't remember any issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great secure alternative to Slack for tech-heavy teams"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

The biggest advantage of Mattermost is the ability to self-host it. Since data privacy is a huge concern for us, having full control over our chat data on our own servers is a gamechanger. The interface feels very familiar if you've used Slack before, so onboarding the team was incredibly easy. I also really appreciate the deep integrations with developer tools like Jira and GitLab. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The mobile app can sometimes be a bit clunky. Push notifications are occasionally delayed by a few seconds compared to the desktop app, which can be slightly annoying when you are away from the keyboard. Also, the search function could be a bit smarter when looking for older files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Self-Hosted Control, But UI and Plugin Ecosystem Feel Behind"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

What I appreciate most about Mattermost is the level of control and flexibility it gives me. Because I run it self-hosted, I can keep everything within my own infrastructure, so performance, privacy, and compliance stay in my hands instead of being tied to a third-party SaaS environment. For engineering teams, that kind of autonomy is a genuine advantage.

I also value the developer-friendly workflow. Channels and threads remain easy to follow even when conversations get busy, and integrations tend to behave predictably. With webhooks, slash commands, and custom bots, it’s straightforward to tailor Mattermost to internal workflows rather than forcing the team to fit a rigid tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The biggest downside for me is that parts of the platform still feel a bit dated compared with newer collaboration tools. The UI is functional and reliable, but it isn’t as polished or modern as some alternatives, which can make the overall experience feel a little utilitarian.

Self-hosting is definitely a strength, but it also comes with extra overhead. Upgrades, backups, and plugin management require ongoing maintenance, and even small configuration issues can take time to troubleshoot. If you don’t have a solid DevOps setup in place, that operational burden can add up quickly.

The plugin ecosystem also feels more limited than Slack or Teams. While the core integrations work well, there are times when I wish there were more out-of-the-box options, rather than having to build custom bots or scripts to fill the gaps. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast, Secure Team Messaging with Full Control and DevOps-Friendly Integrations"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

What I like best about Mattermost is the control it gives you without sacrificing collaboration. It delivers fast, reliable team messaging while letting organizations self-host, customize, and meet strict security or compliance needs. Channels keep conversations focused, integrations plug neatly into DevOps workflows, and everything feels purpose-built for teams that value transparency, ownership, and serious work over noisy chat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

What I dislike about Mattermost is that it can feel less polished out of the box compared to some mainstream chat tools. Initial setup and administration require technical effort, and advanced features often need configuration or plugins to shine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Secure, Customizable Self-Hosted Messaging That Boosts Team Collaboration"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

What I like most about Mattermost is its strong focus on security and customization. The option to self-host gives us complete control over our data, which is a major advantage compared to other messaging platforms. On top of that, the interface is clean, performance has been reliable, and the available integrations make team communication and collaboration noticeably more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

One thing I don’t really like about Mattermost is that it can feel a bit less polished compared to other tools, and sometimes the setup or integrations take more effort than expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable, Secure, and Perfect for Organized Team Communication"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

Mattermost is reliable, fast, and keeps all internal communication organized in one place. I like how it’s built with privacy and data control in mind, which makes it stand out from typical cloud-based messengers. Channels, threads, and integrations with tools like Jira and GitHub make it great for team coordination. It feels professional but still easy to use for quick updates or in-depth project discussions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The interface can feel a bit dated compared to newer messaging apps, and the mobile version sometimes lags or misses notifications. Setting up integrations also takes some trial and error, especially for non-technical users. A few small improvements in search speed and UI polish would make the overall experience smoother. "Streamlined Team Communication with a Few Notification Hiccups"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I like Mattermost for work since it provides a clean interface, making it easy to navigate. The ability to use chat is good and the platform is quick and responsive. The interface is pretty easy to use, with standard menus that simplify finding what I need. Setting it up was fairly simple and straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The notifications did not always come through as configured, so things were lost sometimes. Also, when Mattermost was upgraded, there was no communication about the change, so it was frustrating to figure out the new updates without any heads up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable for Communication, Needs UI Update"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I've been using Mattermost for a while now, and it's been reliable for team communication, especially with external partners. It works well for DevOps workflows. I also appreciate the cost savings at scale since there are no costs per usage, which means no SaaS headaches. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

I feel the UI is a bit outdated. A more modern and intuitive UI would add an advantage. Also, it was a little difficult because technical effort is required to set up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Mattermost could be a next Whatsapp for the Corporate!"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I feel using Mattermost in the office is exactly like using WhatsApp, it’s so easy to use. I use the Mac version of Mattermost, so whenever someone messages me, the app icon bounces and gives me a hint with a notification sound, which is very useful. And yes, it’s also a bit addictive. We colleagues sometimes set GIF profile pictures just to add some fun while chatting this is the feature I like the most. I never require customer support. Whole day we use Mattermost only Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

Sometimes, finding a group or a person in the long list becomes difficult. I remember seeing some onboarding screens that explain Mattermost shortcuts, but I haven’t been able to find them again. After the latest update, the option to use a GIF as a profile picture also seems to be hidden, it’s quite hard to locate now. Files above 15 MB can’t be shared on Mattermost, and there’s also an issue with SVGs. I have to zip the file first, otherwise Mattermost doesn’t show it as a downloadable asset. Mattermost should find more ways to find new fun features that help office people feel more engaged. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Efficient, Self-Hosted Solution for Secure Team Collaboration"
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I appreciate Mattermost for its easy-to-use interface and the ability to create different channels for different teams within the company. Hosting our own server makes everything fast, and it is valuable to integrate a lot of useful systems and custom bots in the platform. Having our important data stored on the company server and the option for developers to set up and integrate various bots and tools easily are significant advantages. I find the bot commands especially useful for creating instant tickets and receiving automatic notifications for different alerts. The fact that custom bots can provide helpful information from external systems inside Mattermost is a great feature as well. Additionally, the overall setup process was pretty easy, aided by online video tutorials and documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

I don't like that the search system is sometimes too cluttered and shows everything, making it hard to find what I'm looking for. Also, the UI design seems primitive compared to competitors like Slack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
