I like the level of customisation - in the types of users, types of tasks/projects, statuses, and reports. However, this does mean that you need a dedicated person or team to tailor it to your exact use case (and keep up to date with improvements).
I like the invites to conferences to hear about updates, and the emails that keep us informed about new features. The new reports are intuitive and easy to use, providing a good level of detail on key KPIs.
The knowledge base is good, and you can always get a response in 24 hours - although it can sometimes take a little time to get the issue solved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I sometimes dislike the level of granularity that all users are able to see - and the lack of ability to customise the dashboard seen on entry.
I also think that Kantata could improve storange or financial performance of projects (e.g. how much work did a project or person deliver in previous months. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like Kimble as it has excellent tracking functionality which allows you to see exactly what is going on in all projects across the business and once you've learnt the terminology of Kimble it is very simple to navigate Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
All i can say about disliking is the way we were onboarding which is not completely Kimble's fault but is a lot of our own. I think diving deep into the onboarding would be a great idea, especially for small companies to ensure they are getting everything they need to go live Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Kantata has been a valuable tool that makes my job as a Resource Manager much easier. My favorite fucntionality includes Assignment Searches - which allows our team to create various views of staff schedules, firm resource demand, and resource demand by Business Unit. I've always relied deeply on Kantata to understand resource profiles and I appreciate that I can search a database of skills and match resources to assignments all in one system of record. Additionally, the reporting functionality is visually stunning and makes sharing data to stakeholders simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As a Resource Manager, I am often working as a change agent for Kantata, ensuring the stakeholders I support are enabled to use it in a way that makes their jobs easier. The feedback I receive the most about Kantata is that it is not intuitive. It can be difficult to know which icons to click on. In addition, because Kantata has so many features it sometimes requires many clicks to complete simple workflows. I think that Project Managers have the most difficulty with Kantata because loading data can be consuming due to the several web browsers that need to be opened to complete a record. The most helpful part of Kantata Professional Services Cloud product is managing resourcing on projects and seeing all resources across all projects in the company. The utilization and capacity reports helps us manage our staff costs and optimize our greatest asset, our people.
I will say that our rep Ayca Miller is a pleasure to work with and always finding ways to provide more value to us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I dislike about the Kantata G2 product is the lack of enough 2 way system integrations with QB Online and other systems, which creates several manual processes in our company and increases the cause of human error to financial manage project budgets with our clients. The ability to see how milestones are progressing thus far, how those same milestones are planning on developing (aka forecasting) allowing us to forecast revenue accurately. Weekly. It also allows us to forecast the need for resourcing on the fly, allowing us to keep our people busy and productive. With the custom metrics feature and the new dashboard/reports builder, this company has everything we need to run our business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's almost like they are moving TOO fast with development. I wish there was a way to have a certification course of some sort for administrators so they can review the new updates and somehow incorporate them into our trainings for our resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The tool is capable of handling just about everything a business would need to manage projects: Allocations at every level, role assignments, budget management, timecards, invoicing, etc. The reporting (although complicated for the uninitiated) is robust and comprehensive but doesn't seem to work well with external platforms like PowerBI or Tableau. The support teams for the tool are absolutely top notch, you really could not ask for a better group of partners. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve is a bit tough but the support from the team is excellent so they will help you along the way. However, if you need something customized, like a unique Project Health report, you're a bit out of luck. Also, their development team is more focused on what THEY think people want rather than listening to users on what actually matters. The enhancements are not bad, but they don't always seem to align with the user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best thing about Kantata is that I can see budgets and time entries in real-time. I struggled with our old project management software because it didn't include time tracking. I spent so much time trying to see where we were at on budgets before Kantata. Now, I can know in real-time. Kantata finally gave us the ability to add custom task statuses so that has been a huge help as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Thankfully, after many years of using Kantata, I've seen great improvements with some of the little things that used to bother me. The only dislikes I have now are the fact that checklist items don't have to be checked off to mark a task complete, the system doesn't send out follow-up or reminder notifications/emails to remind members when a due date is coming up, if a due date is missed, or if a comment/tag hasn't been responded to in a certain amount of time. Finally, the mobile platform/site is not good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As someone who does many tasks on multiple different projects within my firm, I appreciate having this system for keeping track of what I have to do, as well as how much time I've spent doing those tasks. There are multiple web pages I keep as "home pages" that let me streamline my work process and time entry. It is also a great resource for keeping track of information on all the projects I work on, such as unique identifying project numbers or important people to contact for certain information. As a low-level employee there are many parts of the system that I do not use, which can sometimes make it feel bloated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Kanata does a respectable job of allowing project owners to allocation and tracking user's capacity as well as project budget and task management. They have many integrations readily available to large CRM and accounting systems, and a well document API endpoint website. The user interface is easy to use and intuitive, and the service support is usually quick to respond and address problems. The team is also willing to accept feedback, and we have even been able to influence new feature role out. The reporting is flexible and allows several different options to filter, sort, and display data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After using the system for a while you do start to notice things that seem to be a mismatch of system implementations or a poor execution of an idea. The permission control is confusing at best and frustrating at worst. For example, some functions are controlled at a permission role level and cannot be change, others can be controlled by an access group (and also at the permission role level confusingly), and some dashboard report access is controlled by totally different processes depending if using legacy reports and dashboards or dynamic dashboards.
You find you want to do a simple thing like not allow users to create projects, but instead anyone with a report views permission role has that ability and it can't be turned off, but all people managers require this permission level at a minimum, so you just have to allow a permission you don't want to grant to make the system useable.
Another opportunity for improvement is with dashboards and reporting. The system does not support the savings of individual filter sets to a user for a shared dashboard. Using the advanced report editor, the new older "reports" can be grouped, viewed by last changed, and searched quickly in a UI, but the older reports are limited and not used anymore. However, the newer "Analyze" objects which are simply better reports have no audit control, cannot be search, or put into folder groups. You also find some of the ID's required for API or mass uploads cannot be pulled with a system report but require an API call outside the system. Disabling a login while keeping the account active requires an API script and can't be done in the UI, only a full deactivation.
Managers do not have a team view, and if they are not administrators, they must find their team member on some random view to access their profile to add skills to a team member. A setting is “Managers update skills”, but it just seems no one asked what the process would be since non-admins cannot access the member's menu.
The member's view displays a column with user's cost rates, and it cannot be hidden, which can lead to the accidental exposure of this information when sharing a screen. This should be a hidden column by default.
It feels like a data dictionary was not used as depending on what area you are working in, fields are referred to by different names (e.g. tasks / story or project / work center).
Basically, I don’t think there are huge deal breaker as the system overall works, but I have found a lot of small things that need to be cleaned up to have a system I could fully endorse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Kantata is a wonderful tool for providing visibility and seamless communications for projects with clients and internal stakeholders. I love that we can use it as a document repository, replace email communications, full visibility and deliverable tracking, and project plan tracking in one place. It has transformed our PM processes for our clients! Customer support is quick as well and I use this on a daily basis and have never had down time.We also implemented a jira integration which ahs been helpful and the initital implementation was quick and painless. I wish there was more flexibility with how to edit and sort the Task Tracker, I would like to be able to work the system like I would in excel (copy, paste etc.) and more configuration options for all parts of the paltform would be nice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
