The world is our oyster when it comes to adding custom product attributes, intricate entity relations, user workflows, and more. As a product manager, I value that we can create a "composable" PIM that works with a wide variety of commerce platforms and 3rd party publishers. If we need lots of custom fields, it's easy to create. It's also simple to update the data model, which is a huge deal compared to most platforms. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** The system is a blank slate upon first licensing the product. It requires technical assistance to set up. Either you need to hire an engineer with some experience in house, or (most likely) work with a certified InRiver partner to configure it. The syndication feature wants to force you into using the InRiver API, AKA "IIF". That sounds great in theory, but it requires training an engineer in this non-transferable skill. Also chains the platform users to depend on InRiver's API, which is a risky call. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** InRiver helps consolidate all the product data into one place. When you have worked with the system for some years, there is no limts to what it can do and how you set it up by yourselves. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** There are no downsizes for the way that InRiver holds your information, the issue is the get the overview of your Items, Assets etc that is not very modern and not customizable. The system can do a lot of things, but the overview is lacking big time. InRiver is not easy to understand, but after some years it makes sense. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** The enrichment is where we benefit a lot - unfortunately the Catalog management is lacking big time, as we are only using Print 1.0, the Print 2.0 should be the new normal, so we could get cracking with the catalogues. I created imports and exports to be used by non-super users of the program so was a very proficient user of the program at my previous job. This is my first time working in InRiver, I am not set up as a super user for the program and I find it bulky, hard to use with too many places to look and go to so that you can find the info you are looking for. Example - the item itself vs model as sku info as well as more complex variant attribute info. If you have accessories added to your items, there is no way for you to export that relationship to the items out of the system, so I have to depend on my IT team for help instead of being able to be self-sufficient. Our images are also not stored in this program which makes things more cumbersome. It is so much easier when the images are in the same place as the items which is my opinion based off my past experience. It doesn’t seem to be very flexible and the roll-ups on our website are controlled by the sku hierarchy, which in a perfect world is a great idea and a great feature if ALL of your sku hierarchies are always accurate, but this is a struggle for me right now since that is not the case. This causes incorrect info to show up on the wrong products based on the desc added to the model level of the sku. I have worked in this system for a little over a year and power through each day but miss my old PIM system at the same time. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** Product information for marketing in one place ### 14. It can easily be used as a "source of truth" as it regroups all the necessary elements. I often use the Mass update function which is really helful when a bunch of products need to get or change a certain attribute (for example, go live on site or have their category updated). The import feature is also helpful when several different attributes are to be changed to a long list of products. Being able to see history of updates of a field is amazing as it allows to spot and identify both system and human mistakes **What do you dislike about Inriver?** We have long product texts and translations coming from a different software that are integrated in inRiver, but it is almost impossible to do any query on those fields, it would never load to for example show where this field would be empty to spot the products that are missing texts. I wish there was a possibility to do an export with product images in excel format. Setting up someone dashboards and email reporting alerts could also be helpful. I wish to be able to show more information on the product listing next to the image preview when I do a query - for example having a brand, category and season shown without having to switch the view to listing where I lose the image or going directly into the product card. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows to store all the product information and different departments working in one place without bothering each other with requesting information. It definitely saved time on internal exchanges ### 15. I see how Inriver will grow with us. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** Although there IS a significant level of customization available, some things that I felt should be easily doable/functional required more workaround. Not every solution was 100% as simple as I'd hoped, but we always figured out an acceptable option. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** All of the product information has been in multiple places - so creating a single "source of truth" for everything from basic product data info and features to digital assets, as well as being able to load and manage complete brand catalogs from multiple vendors. The system cannot handle large volumes of data without downgrades to its performance. Performance: - inRiver product marketing cloud is very slow and unreliable - Inflexible data model in that it cannot be extended beyond two levels of parent-child relationships - Syndications often fail or is automatically cancelled by the sytem without any warnings - The log feature is limited - Almost no monitoring feature to inform users when something fails - Setting up extensions for data output is cumbersome - Limited possibilities to control user accesses to work areas and syndicaitons - SSO feature does not integrate well with AD - you need to manually remove users who have left - Lack of possibilities for data management from user admin side - Data mapping is difficult and inflexible - there is not drag and drop for adding new fields - No possibilities to lock work areas and syndications or make it visible for only certain user groups - Limited reporting features - Not easy to integrate with other systems User Interface: - Not intuitive or user friendly (functions are hidden in obscure small icons) - Limited language settings for the user interface - No way to customize the look & feel to customer´s brand guidelines - Navigation is difficult - Difficult to organize syndications into folders and set visibilites to user groups Cost: - It is extremely costly compared to other PIM systems on the market - Additional service providers are needed to help maintain the system - Lack of cost transparancy Support: - Every upgrade usually comes with large number of bugs - Bug fixes takes too long sometimes Innovation: - Very little innovation when it comes to new features This system is not recommended for those looking for a solid, flexible and reliable system at a reasonable cost. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** The systems is acting as a central source for production information that is consumed by end points. ### 17. The system is also super reliable and is barely never down. InRiver serves well also as our eCOM content platform. Support Center answers always quickly. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** We are generally very happy, but if one thing could be asked, that would be possibilities for formatting texts, using eg. bolded words or lists. We have managed to save huge amount of working hours, as product information is searched daily, but also is it needs to be updated to one place only. A marketing master to control product data, documentation, and relationships. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** Expensive: The annual subscription cost does not equate to the usability and functionality of the software. A significant cost is needed, internal or external, to implement and develop software. Aggregate: Extensions are custom developed. Nothing is pre-built. Sold on the ability to connect to various data systems such as ERP and PLM. Extensions are custom coded. Marketplace: The marketplace is pre-built apps by consultants. Must be a client of a consultant to install. Usability: Hard to navigate. Too many clicks to enrich. Lose the ability to import/export when relating specs to be included in specs to related to a product or model. This process then resorts to the manual entry for every height, width, depth, and more. Bugs: Was sold on DAM capabilities. The majority of images and PDF contain black backgrounds where they should be transparent. Utilizes imagemagick which in fact is not magic. DAM is very lightweight. Publish: Since no connector exists data but is sent and consumed as XML. Easy to export information from when needed. The feature "Mass Update" saves a lot of time and it's overall a very user friendly system. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** The padding on some boxes/buttons is very narrow, which makes it easy to missclick (for example the 3 dots on the rights side of "product/item cards" is very hard to press correctly) Annoying that the save-button appears whenever you enter a text box, even when you only copy the text (without editing) it asks you if you'd like to save your changes. Also annoying that the only way to shut this "save-box" is by manually pressing the button (if you could press the key Enter instead it would save some time). **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our company has A LOT of different brands, products and articles. PIM is a great way to get an overview without it feeling overwhelming. The possability to have more than one workspace is great for multitasking.
