"Effortless Data Analysis with Powerful AI"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really appreciate Hex for making data analysis and dashboard creation much easier. Normally, I'd have to hire a data scientist, and it would take them a long time to complete the work and make it presentable; now I can do it all on my own. I especially like its AI agent; it's incredibly capable. I can simply tell it what I want in plain language, and while I have to guide it, it manages to find the data, transform it, and make it presentable. It's also been easy to learn, even though I didn't set up the initial software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I would like the agent to have a few different modes - like "fast" or "thinking" etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast and Rich Analytics"
What do you like best about Hex?

I use Hex for all my analytics, and it really speeds up my work. What used to take me two or three days can now be done in about half a day. I think the AI agent in Hex is really good for doing a lot of analytics and helps generate insights for stakeholders. I also like the guides part where you can set up the context and business logics of your company/data, making it really easy for the AI to understand the context. Setting up Hex didn't even need to create semantic models; you just provide a database and a little context, and it figures out what to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think the Hex apps could be a little more efficient, especially in how AI accesses data from apps. It would be helpful if cached data could be utilized instead of running the warehouse query again and again. This would save a lot of time, especially when using the thread feature. "Seamless SQL + Python Workflow, but Slow Loads and Limited Sharing Controls"
What do you like best about Hex?

Chaining SQL and combining SQL and Python seamlessly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Slow load times (largely due to inability to quickly run parallel queries against warehouse) and lacking sharing/app permission options. We get a lot of complaints about slow load times, which drives people to use Looker Studio instead. In terms of sharing, it's very difficult to share a dashboard with a wide audience because with link sharing turned on, everyone in the workspace is then able to find the project. We want password protected links and also the ability to turn on link sharing without the entire workspace being able to easily find a dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Empowering Data Analysis with Intuitive AI Tools"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really like the HEX generative AI agent; it's the feature I enjoy most. It's incredibly helpful for getting research started, writing code accurately, and synthesizing findings without much hallucination. Additionally, the integration process was very easy and gradual, with HEX making it simple to use CSV files directly out of the box. The threads feature is particularly useful for speaking in natural language, and HEX performs a lot of the analysis automatically without needing much intervention. It has great self-healing properties, too, like fixing code issues easily through the AI agent. I find it valuable to chat with the HEX AI agent, which helps explain results and their ramifications in simple terms, aiding in synthesizing research questions and analyzing data effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think Hex is still figuring out the enterprise use case in general. I tried to use Hex's semantic features, but even though it was supposed to be in my plan, I was not able to access it until very recently. So I think, in terms of the admin panel or the platform itself, there might be some issues here and there. However, I think the team is very responsive whenever you do have a problem. I've noticed that it's very difficult to export from Hex. I wish there was a cleaner way to export the data files from Hex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Positive feedback on HEX tools"
What do you like best about Hex?

What I like most about Hex is how seamlessly it combines SQL, Python, and visualization in a single collaborative environment. It’s very intuitive to use, and collaboration features (shared projects, comments, and version history) make it easy to work cross-functionally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

One downside is that performance can occasionally lag with very large datasets or complex notebooks, especially when multiple queries are chained together. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Revolutionizes Product Analytics, A Must for Small Teams"
What do you like best about Hex?

I like Hex because it combines SQL and dataframes, allowing me to perform complete analyses without needing a big data store like BigQuery or Redshift. With Hex, I don't have to hire a separate product analyst as it covers my needs. I appreciate that it enables me to fire small queries and keeps data in dataframes. Switching from Metabase to Hex was mainly because of its AI threads and notebook features, which I find valuable. I also like that I can use Hex with Slack, which fits well with my workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Hex only has access to my business datastore. I wonder how amazing it'd be if it had access to my analytics tools like Mixpanel as well. Also, setting up was a bit challenging because putting context was a lot of work for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexibility in Dashboard Creation with Room for Better Native Tools"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really appreciate the flexibility of Hex. It lets me use both SQL and Python to create virtually any dashboard I can imagine. Python gives me the ability to render HTML dashboards, which allows me as a product designer to craft exactly the dashboard that I believe our customers need. This flexibility is not something I find in other analytics tools, which are somewhat limited in how they display data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I use Python to generate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript outputs. If there were just a widget that allowed me to do that natively. I think that would be cleaner. The native visualization tools, like the Hex charts, are not the most intuitive to use. They seem crafted for a very specific use case. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexibility and Ease Win Over Complex Setup"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really like Hex's simplicity and how it's easier to use than our previous tools like Looker Studio and Snowflake. It's very easy to configure and the initial setup was a breeze for our team. One of the features that stands out for me is the flexibility to use multiple languages and packages, including using Python and SQL simultaneously with ease. I also enjoy the capability to build my own controls using Python and HTML. Managing projects and users has been straightforward, and the connectivity to our main data repository in Snowflake, along with scheduling weekly messages to Slack, works seamlessly. The ease of use was one of the main reasons why we decided to migrate our main reports to Hex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

It's not easy to obtain the UI I designed using App-builder. Sometimes, I cannot adjust margins or define a shared palette for a collection. Using Python collections inside SQL cells is not always possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Onboarding and Seamless Experience"
What do you like best about Hex?

I think the easy onboarding is really great. Hex is very straightforward with a very clean UI. The best part is that it has the AI assistant by itself, so you can just use natural language to talk to it and figure out how to use it. I was able to figure out the features by myself without much searching around or asking around to understand the features. The initial setup is super easy and very seamless. There's nothing to configure; you can just start using it and get the benefits and keep the momentum. I really enjoy the onboarding and the learning curve, which is not super deep. Without any configuration or setup, I'm already able to talk with it and have meaningful interactions and insights. This is great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Sometimes, the tool does not understand the tables, probably because we don't have the domain context or the semantic layer built in our database. This often requires modification and rerunning of queries, which feels like it's wasting time. Also, when talking to the AI assistant, it doesn't constantly check with me, which might save time, but sometimes leads to invalid results if certain queries or filters are missed and everything needs to be rerun. "Effective AI-Powered Data Analysis, Would Improve with Workflow Integration"
What do you like best about Hex?

I find Hex's AI functionality to be better than comparable tools. I also appreciate the functionality that supports the AI, such as integrating with dbt .yml to grab descriptions and the ability to mark particular resources as higher or lower precedence for the agent. This combination leads to better AI outcomes. Additionally, I found Hex agent to be better than SimplyPut, the previous tool we used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think importing dbt's analyses as 'verified questions' could be of use, as it's one thing to have AI know the dbt model metadata, but another to have it reference queries to answer specific questions. Additionally, it doesn't support a 'workflow' style of work, which usually leaves it standalone for my use cases. Using the agent via Slack would be better if we could have conversations from Slack itself instead of entering the tool, as Slack is more one-shot currently.
