I’ve been using Descartes Carrier Portal regularly to manage freight documentation, track shipment updates, and handle carrier communication. The feature I rely on most is the centralized portal, which lets me view shipment details, invoices, proof of delivery (POD), and payment status all in one place, rather than having to dig through multiple emails or separate systems. One area that could be improved is the system’s reliability. At times, the portal runs into technical issues, and logging in can be difficult because the login page doesn’t always load correctly. I really like Descartes MacroPoint's reliable real-time visibility and how it significantly reduces tracking efforts. It's great for maintaining accurate ETAs, automating shipment updates, and improving communication across teams. I also appreciate its integrations with multiple ELD providers and telematics systems, which make onboarding and tracking more efficient for carriers and brokers. The newer Control Tower 2.0 interface is much more user-friendly, organized, and efficient than previous versions. One thing that could still be improved is tracking consistency across smaller carriers that use older or less compatible ELD systems. Occasionally, integrations can be inconsistent depending on the telematics provider being used. There are also times when tracking permissions or driver app adoption create delays during onboarding. The breadcrumb location updates provide an accurate location history for Arrive loads and give customers good visibility. The Control Tower and Historical Search interfaces can be adjusted to make it easier to verify load details and confirm the current tracking identifier.

The self-service onboarding link includes clear instructions, and carriers can add their credentials directly that helps them save time when following the instructions. If there are any issues during the integration process, we can email the MacroPoint team, and they typically reply within one day. The website also doesn’t experience power outages often (about once or twice per month), and when they do occur, they’re usually resolved the same day or by the following day. Sometimes tracking sessions stop pinging because the Inaccuracy Reason filter is incorrectly filtering out the pings. As a result, even though the truck, trailer, DR phone, or TMS load ID is still pinging, the updates show up only in FraudGuard and not in Location History. Also, some mobile tracking loads stop pinging and stay in the Possible Fraud Detected Status and we have to create a new tracking session even when we update the tracking identifier with a compatible DR phone or switch to ELD tracking

In Historical Search, the tracking session map can only be opened by hovering over the load and clicking “View Map,” rather than clicking the load number directly. This change was confusing at first, and it also adds extra clicks when we’re trying to check Tracking Sessions Completed.

We also usually only find out an ELD has issues after we notice loads aren’t tracking and then email the MP team. For example, Omnitracs didn’t work for a few days, but there was no warning about the issue. We only confirmed it by emailing daily to verify the connection status. I really like Descartes MacroPoint for its great customer service and how easy it is to use. The platform is user-friendly, and the applications are simple to follow, which is a big plus for me. I appreciate that it can connect via API with various TMS programs and that there are different options to upgrade. I think Descartes MacroPoint could improve by better advising us when there are new products or upgrades that we could implement in our current processes. It would be great to have notifications pushed to us about any new alerts or features that could be beneficial, like knowing if a driver is rerouted or facing an issue, so we can activate those alerts if needed. I like that Descartes MacroPoint is already adopted by the majority of drivers on the road, making it much easier for us to get a driver to track. We also appreciate the improved visibility it provides, letting us know where our drivers are when delivering for customers. I am generally happy with the product, but it would be nice if there was a feature for drivers to upload receipts, PODs, etc. Additionally, I wish there were more ELD drivers on it and think more syncs would be helpful for us. I like that the Descartes MacroPoint interface is easy to understand and navigate. The ability to predict ETAs and send alerts is impressive. I appreciate the real-time visibility it provides, and I find the real-time multimodal shipment visibility and automated tracking particularly valuable as it makes check calls unnecessary. Setting it up was easy, and it truly makes everything automatically. I don't need to add addresses manually to know a driver's location or ETA, and the alert system is very useful. Sometimes, when I switch from using the truck number to adding the phone number to start tracking, it can take longer than expected to initiate tracking. It doesn't start tracking immediately. Also, I've noticed that some carriers prefer using TruckerTools because it doesn't have lags, indicating that Descartes MacroPoint might experience some lags occasionally. I like the ease of using the application and setting up each of the shipments in Descartes MacroPoint. Additionally, using the phone number makes it easier for the operator to use the tool. I primarily use Descartes MacroPoint for my tracking tasks and it has been quite useful. I find it very accurate, especially in situations where dispatchers don't answer and I urgently need to know the location of certain loads or if the driver is already on the way to the pick-up. The app helps me with this, and the ETAs it provides are usually very accurate. I like the precision and the number of pins it can have, and besides all the advantages it brings, it saves me a lot of time. The way it gives me the recommended route and by giving me pins so frequently allows me to know if the driver is following it, if there is any detour, or if they are stopped; this gives me time to see what's happening. It also offers the satellite map option, which helps me better see where the trucks are located. Additionally, I found the initial setup quite easy and very intuitive. Useful for live updates when tracking where trucks currently are. The satellite map is also helpful for addresses that are in more remote locations, which helped save time on extra digging and researching for needed info.

The time zones are inconsistent. I would like if they either matched the destination's time zone and put which one it was (EST, PST...) or matched my own time zone every time.
