I use Canto for a variety of work tasks like sorting and uploading pictures, maintaining our library, and standardizing cropping, downloads, tagging, and naming. I really like all the functionalities it offers, especially how clean and organized it is, along with its flexibility with different formats. My top favorite features are the face detection and new AI features, which make my workload a lot easier. The face detection feature, in particular, is great because it makes it so easy to find specific people and photos. Canto's ability to detect objects like trees and water also stands out for me. I would like more enhancement of the AI features, particularly detection of objects in images. Sometimes typing "car" or "bus" doesn't necessarily identify every image where a car or bus is. That's one example of an issue that I have faced a few times. But I have seen lots of improvements in the time I've used Canto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There are many aspects of Canto that I appreciate in my work. I love how our whole team can collaborate. Even team members who don't have a seat can upload photos or view photos through share links. The filter search doesn't always work like I hope. Also when I click on an image to view it, a side panel with information comes up, but I have a couple of frustrations with it. 1, that view does not include all of the form fields I'd like to see. 2. Often, when I scroll down to view a lower field like facial recognition, it jumps to the full screen info panel, when I did not want it to do that. The facial recognition process is a little more complicated to use than Google Photos. It can’t do facial recognition well from video, which is annoying when video is the only content I have of that person. The initial uploading process was pretty rough, with crashes partway through, requiring restarts. My favorite thing about Canto is that it helps us get more value from the content we already have. The AI search makes finding photos dramatically faster, the metadata helps keep content organized and searchable, and the platform makes it easier to give staff access to more of our library while still clearly identifying what is ready to use. My biggest frustrations with Canto are the occasional bugs in the Adobe integrations and the fact that there are multiple integration options for the same application rather than one solution that does everything well. I'd also like more customization options in several areas of the platform. Some basic user actions still seem to be missing, like a “Deselect All” option. It’s also not very clear how to move assets between albums, instead of only copying them. And while I’m excited about the new look and features, the “switch to new library” messaging should be optional and not sit on the screen all the time. I believe Canto is very intuitive and quick to learn. Searching across multiple folders has been very easy with the use of newer AI features. Also, the accessibility of customizing how you download assets is extremely helpful for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There isn't much I dislike. I think editing more than a handful of data at a time is a little more difficult. For example, if I need to batch edit certain folders to update metadata. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I think the search ability feature could be a bit more improved - I would also love to see some features that make sharing assets with non-Canto users a bit more seamless. I love how Canto brings scattered project materials under one governed roof, making them accessible across the practice. It helps maintain a single repository for drawing sets, site imagery, method statements, and compliance records, ensuring everyone works from the current version. I appreciate the workflow customization, allowing me to shape approval paths around our actual governance reviews. The style guide function is particularly valuable for maintaining a consistent standard across concurrent workstreams. It handles a wide range of formats, from survey photography to technical documentation, and uploads are quick. The main area I would like to see refined is the interface itself, where certain conventions call for a period of adjustment and the sheer breadth of features can obscure the most direct path to a given task, particularly when a new discipline lead is finding their footing in the system. I like that Canto is easy to use and secure, which is super important for reviewing and keeping pictures from the Brock community confidential and ready for use.
