## Box Pricing FAQs

Generated using AI

### Is Box free, or does it offer a free trial?

Box does not offer a permanent free plan, but it does provide a free trial that lets users to test the product before committing to a paid plan. Trial availability and duration may vary, so users should review the seller's official pricing page for the most current details.

### How much does Box cost in 2026?

According to G2 data, Box pricing in 2026 starts at $5.00 and can reach $50.00 depending on the selected plan. Pricing may vary based on billing terms or usage, so users should review the Box's official pricing page for the most current details.

### Who is Box pricing best suited for?

Based on G2 reviewer demographics and feedback, Box's pricing is best suited for mid-market and enterprise organizations that prioritize security, compliance, and collaboration. G2 enterprise reviewers across industries like healthcare, financial services, and information technology highlight Box's HIPAA compliance, audit trails, and granular permissions as key value drivers. The Business plan at $15.00 per month suits growing teams needing AI tools and broad integrations. The Enterprise and Enterprise Plus tiers appeal to regulated industries requiring FedRAMP or advanced data protection. Small businesses and individual users on G2 frequently find Box's pricing steep, with several noting that competitors offer comparable storage at lower costs.

### What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of Box?

Box offers a free trial rather than a permanent free tier, giving users time-limited access to evaluate paid capabilities. Box's entry-level Business Starter plan at $5.00 per month per user provides 100GB storage, a 2GB file upload limit, 25 file versions, and basic e-signature support for up to 10 users. Higher-tier paid plans unlock unlimited storage, larger file uploads up to 150GB on Enterprise Plus, Box AI features, advanced compliance standards including HIPAA and FedRAMP, unlimited external collaborators, workflow automation, and enhanced support. G2 reviewers frequently note that advanced features like AI, governance tools, and security controls are locked behind higher-priced Box plans.

### Is Box considered good value for its pricing?

Box's value perception is mixed among G2 reviewers. High ratings alongside frequent cost complaints suggest Box is a premium tool that delivers on its promises but at a price. G2 reviewers consistently praise enterprise-grade security, unlimited storage on paid plans, seamless integrations with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, and AI-powered features. However, pricing is the most commonly cited drawback across reviews, with many G2 users noting Box is expensive compared to alternatives like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. Mid-market and enterprise users generally find the value justified given compliance features and collaboration capabilities, while small businesses and individual users frequently question whether the cost outweighs the benefits.

"Still the one cloud sync solution I turn to"

5/5

What do you like best about Box?

What's not to love? It does not steal my data, does not sell my info to thrid parties and provides me with secure servers to backup my critical (and useless) data. Plenty of space on the free plan for you to make sure your Documents and Pictures folders are fully backed up (unless you're a hoarder, of course). Desktop sync is easy to set up and quite reliable. There are apps for all the major platforms (R.I.P. Palm, BB and BB10 but they where there when those were not EOL'd). The paid plans are affordable and do offer quality of life features the free plan could use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Box?

My dislikes are less about the BOX app than to the fact that the integration BB10/BOX had left everything else feeling like a poor knockoff - including their own Android app. I don't think Android (Google) would ever let them have that level of integration with the system, so this is kinda not on them. it is now 2024 and that sentiment has not changed.

They should update their plans. It's 2024. BOX still treats user data as if it was 2012. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Box:

If you need a free backup and sync solution and 10GB is enough for you, go for it. If you need robust file sync, go for it. It's easier than getting GDrive to work on Windows that's for sure! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Box solving and how is that benefiting you?

I no longer worry if any of my devices will go kaput because I know my critical data is safe and sound on BOX's servers and can easily be retrieved any time I want, on any device I need. Also instant backup and sync between devices I am logged on. Box allows me to backup, access and edit all my data. Securely. Privately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"BOX gets the job done, but is a huge animal to deal with if it doesn't meet your needs"

2/5

What do you like best about Box?

BOX allows us to store files on a cloud server, providing easy and instant access worldwide, including support for mobile devices and desktop access. Our business account has infinite storage, so there is no worry about running out or upgrading space. The interface is easy to understand, and most users adapt very quickly. I generally require very little training. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Box?

Box has waterfall permissions for files, which you should understand before signing up. You cannot restrict files within a folder that someone can access at a higher level. Waterfall permissions can make file organization somewhat challenging. Additionally, add-ons to BOX are quite expensive. BOX advertises all this awesome stuff you can do, but you don't realize that a lot of it is a costly add-on until later. Once you activate the add-on, there is no trial period. You are stuck paying for it for a year, even if the add-on doesn't work for you. Finally, I feel that BOX caters more to large organizations than to small businesses.

Finally, with the advent of 4K video and better technology, it's getting harder and harder to upload large videos. You have to pay more, and you can't upgrade for just one user. So, if you have 30 users and only one needs to upload large videos, you have to pay extra for everyone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Box:

Understand waterfall permissions before starting! If you prefer Local permissions for folders, consider Egnyte. As a small business, sometimes I wish we had gone with Egnyte instead of BOX, but we chose BOX because we wanted to use BOX Relay. After one year of paying for Relay, we found out it wouldn't work for us, and we couldn't get out of it. Be sure to calculate the FULL cost PER USER for all the extra stuff you need. The base price does not include migration assistance, BOX relay, BOX governance, or many other features. Once you have over 800 GB of data and over 50 users in 3 continents (massive for our small company, the thought of switching and migrating and re-teaching a new system is unpalatable. So once you are "ALL IN" you don't have a great way to get back out again without some heavy lifting (or money to pay for someone else to migrate and teach everyone). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Box solving and how is that benefiting you?

We used to have an FTP server, which allowed you to upload and download files, but not manipulate them. It was a time-sucker. Once we expanded the clients, it wasn't too usable. All the rest of the company files were stored on a local server, and remote desktop access could only be used by one person at a time, and would always go down. It was a mess! BOX changed everything, with instant 24/7 access to all files, regardless of who needs them. I can also access everything on the go, which is crucial; I'm not tied to a home desktop system. BOX can also notify you when someone comments or uploads content, so you have a lot of oversight into what's happening with your files (if you can keep up with it!) BOX is quite versatile, and with the function, I have no complaints. I just wish we knew more about how it worked before going "all in." Once you're "all in," getting out is a significant leap.
