Like if a customer has an exemption on file but netsuite is still charging tax. I can look at the Avalara documents and see what the error is. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** Customer service. Majority of the time I get people who speak extremely broken english and have limited understanding of tax in general. Also when I put in a ticket the timeframe in which I get a response is pretty long. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Calculating sales tax is extremely helpful. There are also help and chat features available if you get stuck. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** The communication with our ERP. It isn't always easy to see why tax cannot be removed from a certificate while using our ERP, we would then need to log into Avalara to troubleshoot. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avalara is notifying our company when we reach nexus in new states. Our previous ERP was not able to notify us and this is helping to keep the company in compliance with local and state taxes. I also think for the most part Avalara is intutive. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** in Avatax, the economic thresholds should provide a bit more information. Example: we come up as surpassing the sales threshold of ND. However, it does not state on there if it is taxable sales or all sales. For my company our customers are primarily exempt,while we may have surpassed 100K we have not passed 100K taxable orders. The ECM platform I think is lacking a little bit. It does not show the same information that there use to be shown in Cert Capture. For example, when you click into the customer certificate tabs – it no longer shows the actual tax ID, you have to click into it. When you click into the customer certificate you cannot back out to the previous screen. I think there is some issues with uploading MTCs, if we upload a customers MTC - we now have to turn off the setting for OCR to be able just to upload a certificate. I also think the customer support can be a little frustating - one repsone per day. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avalara is solving our returns, and certificate storage. There are many functions which I'm not using but they are available for the people who need it. Customer support is also very helpful when I need to use it, which hasn't happened a lot. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** Good question, i think some of the manual work reconciling our ERP system to Avalara sales to make sure everything matches. Another upside is that if I encounter any issues is how easy it is to get support from the Avalara team. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** I have not found any downsides of using Avalara at this time. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avalara solves the problem of when we have customers come back after a transaction has been enacted and tell us they are tax exempt. It is extremely easy to add the tax exemption and recalculate the tax on the transaction and make sure that the customer is no longer being taxed. They will tell you you need to register in 17 states based on the data you provided them, whilst tax advisors will tell you that you only need to register in 5 states. - they will also sell you some premium support package which are complete rubbish and useless. - they will also try to make you pay for their Netsuite integrator which is incredibly expensive but should come as free. - they will sell you X numbers of remittance, saying you have to file monthly, when most states do quarterly filing, but will insist on making you pay a monthly filling fee. - they will charge you on number of transactions regarless of the amounts your charge to your customers, which makes no financial sense when you charge small amounts. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were hoping that Avalara would help us with compliance and Sales Tax filing but that never happened as they didn't manage to register us in most states we had to register in. Since integrating Avalara with our WooCommerce website, we have faced nothing but problems, costing us tens of thousands of dollars and an enormous amount of time and resources. From the start, we encountered a serious issue with duplicate transactions being submitted. After a month of back-and-forth with their support, it was finally determined that the problem stemmed from the way Avalara guided us to set up our account. This mistake doubled our tax filings, and we’ve been fighting to fix it ever since. Despite resolving the issue once, a July update from Avalara reactivated the problem without our consent, leading to more duplicate transactions and locked data, which we cannot correct. On top of that, we’ve dealt with Avalara’s unreliable support system, where we can’t even log in to get help. Our attempts to reset the password fail, and the page often doesn’t load. This is unacceptable for a service we’ve paid tens of thousands of dollars for. Another ongoing issue is Avalara’s failure to import shipping addresses for over 300 orders, forcing us to manually input this information. This is a massive waste of time and should not be happening with a service that claims to simplify tax management. Worst of all, in early April, Avalara’s AvaTax plugin caused our customers to be unable to check out on our website. We were left with no choice but to disable the plugin, which meant we couldn’t collect sales tax for two months. Despite repeated promises of a quick fix, it took until mid-June to resolve, causing significant financial damage. In summary, Avalara has been a nightmare to work with. We are dealing with multiple unresolved issues that are directly Avalara’s fault, and their poor communication and lack of support have only made things worse. We’ve wasted an incredible amount of money trying to make their system work, and unless they take immediate action and issue a refund, we will be looking for alternative solutions. If you’re considering Avalara for your business, think twice. Our experience has been nothing short of a disaster. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is supposed to just handle all sales tax, VAT, and home rule taxes. In theory it does this, but the product itself is so unreliable that its actually easier to digest not collecting specific taxes with TaxJar.
