I enjoy using Avalara with Xero, which is great for small to medium-sized businesses. Avalara simplifies the process of managing sales tax across different regions, making sure everything is in compliance, from GST in Australia or the UK to VAT in the EU. Everything is properly registered, in compliance, and filings are done on time, ensuring peace of mind. Avalara has grown into a better and easier system, making it straightforward for my small business staff to learn and utilize it effectively, which is fantastic. **What do you dislike about Avalara?** I think the only thing that I've found in working with ecommerce businesses is there is sometimes a glitch between the sales/ecommerce platform which may not be Avalara's fault, mind you. When utilizing Amazon and Shopify, sometimes there are connection issues that you do have to monitor or make sure stay established. And that again is probably because of the marketplace provider has either done an update thus causing the connection to disconnect. However, from my experience, it does need some improvement with additional support in some countries because being able to register on your own for smaller third world countries is a little bit tricky. And being able to have that extra guidance or direction to make sure it's done properly. I personally speak only three languages. And if I don't understand the language I'm definitely not gonna understand the complicated structure of those applications. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Avalara for sales tax and automated filings. It solves cross-border issues, simplifies understanding the nexus, and helps register timely. We are so frustrated with the lack of support that we are looking into other providers. I attended the Crush event and spoke with the Global Support Manager. I was astonished his response to my frustration was he could make my problems go away, but it would cost me money....he wanted me to purchase the $15k per year Enterprise support package. When I copied a senior sales manager and the Global Support Manager in a follow-up email stating the problem continues to be unresolved after 3 weeks and the issue is impacting our eCommerce sales, the senior sales manager responded by asking our Account Manager or the GSM to reach out to me about upgrading to the $15k Enterprise support package. Wow...they have no interest in solving my problem, but they are still trying to sell me the $15k Enterprise support package. Stay away at all costs **What do you dislike about Avalara?** A few things: - the sales team will actually try to oversell you on all fronts. They will tell you you need to register in 17 states based on the data you provided them, whilst tax advisors will tell you that you only need to register in 5 states. - they will also sell you some premium support package which are complete rubbish and useless. - they will also try to make you pay for their Netsuite integrator which is incredibly expensive but should come as free. - they will sell you X numbers of remittance, saying you have to file monthly, when most states do quarterly filing, but will insist on making you pay a monthly filling fee. - they will charge you on number of transactions regarless of the amounts your charge to your customers, which makes no financial sense when you charge small amounts. **What problems is Avalara solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were hoping that Avalara would help us with compliance and Sales Tax filing but that never happened as they didn't manage to register us in most states we had to register in.
