It is an extremely flexible tool with a large number of potential use cases beyond finance. The key benefits realized are shorter model turn-around times, primarily made possible through less manual intervention and less manual error. With much greater confidence in the results, this frees up time to interpret results and have better conversations with the business. ### 6. Powerful calculation engines that are behind the scenes can be simplified with user-friendly front-end dashboards, enabling standardized processes and the ability to onboard users at every level. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Anaplan is extremely forward-thinking. Sometimes they focus on marketing the "future state" a little bit too much (i.e. AI) while they still have some enhancements to the existing core functionality that would also benefit their cutomers. Another advantage is the ease of implementation, especially with it's ALM features. Deploying updates is a breeze. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** I can't say that I dislike this, probably room for improvement is integration and system limitation. Every platform has its limitations anyway, but these are some of the things we can look for when looking for ideas for improvement. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** If you want a cloud based platform that is cloud based and easy to implement then this is the one for you. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** We encountered problems trying to build a model with workflow, at first it was hard but eventually we pulled it off. The community provides an update to its roadmap, and the Platform keeps on evolving. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1) Inconsistency of reports. Having different versions of the spreadsheet is one of the pain points of the business users. (Addressed by Anaplan as we can have ONE SINGLE TRUTH of data) 2) Bulk of data. Business users frequently experience crashed applications because the spreadsheet can no longer handle the data load. (Anaplan can handle big data) 3) They cannot let go of the forecast versions because they need different drivers and scenarios to get the best forecast. The ability to build a proof of concept model and further iterate off of that even after the primary developers have left creates an astounding amount of scalability for the product. Additionally through using Anaplan the companies I've worked at have all been blown away by the always on and always accurate nature of a cloud solution, especially where other products require significantly more downtime or refreshes to reflect large scale changes. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Anaplan could improve on the use of custom time dimensions to maximize the efficacy of the platform without causing a significant burden for the development team. The switchover functionality and versions work well out of the box, but additional work should be done to help minimize data sparsity and maximize efficiency. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** Consider if you're company is actually ready for a large-scale transformation. No tool can do it all, but trying to build everything out in Anaplan or any currently available solution is likely to fail if you're moving current state processes, excel sheets, and unlimited granularity/flexibility to a new software. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have worked on FP&A forecasting and budgeting solutions that have allowed for an entire enterprise to consolidate their planning process and significantly reduce the time to create an annual budget. Going from annual forecasting to nearly weekly forecasting. Additionally Anaplan has been instrumental at improving a Territory & Quota process at another company to standardize and regulate the way that employees are compensated for their work. In each implementation the result was that analysts and managers spent less time inputting the data and could spend more time reviewing and fine tuning their departments. ### 11. Typical use cases are HR, Capex, OPEX, Revenue Planning, Operations planning, Consolidations...These use cases are connected together like Microsoft Excel connects Workbooks for "real time" results. Users can see the results of What-if calculations instantaneously. Calculations are written in simple "Excel" like syntax. No coding is required. In addition, Anaplan is a true multi-tenant cloud provider providing upgrades monthly so that all users are always on the latest version. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** My only complaint with Anaplan is the requirement to design around sparsity in order to deliver models that perform well. However, Anaplan has addressed this and is soon delivery a new calculation model that addresses this issue. Anaplan offers the fastest time to implement and is the most uncomplicated maintenance. The most significant challenge is keeping up with these enhancements. Which stops users reverting back to Excel **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** The focus of new features over the past few years has been very much on making the end users experience better. So model builders have been left behind somewhat, mainly from the point of view of writing and interrogating formulas, so there is scope to make our lives easier and modelling even faster. However there is an update expected soon which is promised to make the modelers lives a lot easier, so watch this space **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Integrated P&L > Balance Sheet > Cashflow This significantly sped up the quarterly forecasting process for my client, and I also built lots of checks for account mappings to identify any holes in the mappings which could cause a variance to the balance sheet or any of the inbuild balance checks. As the model was vast so the model admins had to really stay on top of new accounts or mappings coming in IFRS Modelling Contract Revenue Anaplan was able to perform the calcs at a much more detailed level than excel, which was already at its limits and provides lots of analysis for the business. The main benefit for the client is providing a solid platform to bring together their actuals plus the ability to overlay what-ifs for the outlook and compare multiple scenarios against each other. The inputs being at a level high enough for fund managers to relate to, but the underlying logic is very detailed to the extent of making decisions on when to call from or distribute to investors in a more life like way Supply vs Demand modelling In a range of industries, including energy, telecoms, and consumer goods. The principle is fairly similar for all of these industries, matching supply and demand, identifying variances. As with previous applictaions the main benefits were related to performing the calculations at a more detailed level than Excel can handle, and providing operations with multiple scenarios to try out mutiple ways to resolve supply or demand issues ### 42. You shouldn't try to do everything you want when you first get it.
