  ### 21. Elasticsearch is a great service for easily searching through your data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Todd B. | Software Development Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

One of the best aspects of Elasticsearch is the flexibility in searching using dates. Elasticsearch supports many different ways of searching for date specific information, which is much easier than using SQL in a typical relational database. It also has an inbuilt "weighting" mechanism for returning results. This allows a more nuanced result list than just sorting by one of the returned data values.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

The only complaint I have with Elasticsearch is the learning curve. There is really no comparison to writing SQL with how you generate Elasticsearch queries, so it requires some learning and training to figure out how to work it. There is also some complexity in determining how to set up your indexes, which can have an impact on your search results and capabilities. Honestly, it's no different than the complexities of someone new learning how to query a relational database, but it is a completely different skillset.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Elasticsearch to quickly search for users in our system based on a multitude of criteria. We are also using it to generate data for our dashboard charts. This is where Elasticsearch's ability to break down date filters has really helped us.

  ### 22. ElasticSearch on AWS powerful and Scalable for Enterprise

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chamroeunrith C. | Director of Information Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Analytic and search very fast the elastic on AWS,
the best thing i like Elasticsearch on AWS is scalability its easy to build the cluster and load balancing.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

- well, there have a bit problem with installation, if install from source and configuration.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- its solve us a lot about the searching faster for our system for customer in local we use Elasticsearch to help as well, but free version. its improve the searching

  ### 23. AWS ES is great service for document/article search.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Om P. | Enterprise Architect (Artificial Intelligence), Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Search capability and the it's ability to integrate with Kibana.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Complexity with the search query and lack of user friendly UI.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using AWS ES for chatbot content repository and search.

  ### 24. It’s wonderful experience to work with this

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

It’s easy to deploy, scale and operate elastic search to AWD

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

It disallows configuration ant really bad memory to retain

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me to overcome the search data to AWS cloud

  ### 25. Its good search engine and reporting tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** shridhar P. | Technical Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

I have used ES in several projects in last 5-6 years. I used it for three different purposes.
1. As search engine. 2. For analytic and reporting 3. Monitoring
ES definitely one of the top storage option available.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

ES has been around for a while now but its query mechanism didn't evolve much. Ideally they should have supported SQL based queries long ago but they are adding they feature only recently which still at experimental level.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

What I like section pretty much covers what problem we are trying solve. Just to list again -
1. search 2. Analytics and 3. Monitoring.

  ### 26. Elasticsearch

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan C. | Principal Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Amazon provides an easy to use service to spin an elastic search cluster with associated kibana service. To allow developers to work not blocked by process you can create an elasticsearch cluster without security. It will injest any data sent to it.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Easlticsearch doesn't scale down to the level we need. As logs analytics platform it is constantly injesting data, but queries into that data occur far less often. The cluster is a far too static system, and we are over paying for a system that it mostly injesting data.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The advantage of elasticsearch is maintenance. Previously, development teams had their own clusters that the system team had to manage. With elasticsearch most of the low level management tasks are handled for us, and the higher level tasks like cluster upgrades can by handled from the aws console.

  ### 27. Easy to get started, Well Maintained service

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ravi D. | Devops Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

The effortless building up and setting up the service in minutes. Service having in built cognito integration and VPC integration. Easily scalable ( but manual - can be achieved by cloud watch alarms ).

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

If aws could manage the scaling of the service, it would have been a great benefit. Also, service is locked down in terms of plugins available.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

As long as you could meet the scaling demands of your application, it is a great service.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using it as a search engine for full text search on documents like resumes.

  ### 28. Great solution for indexing and searching massive amounts of content.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon E. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

The ease of pushing data into the service is the best part of Elasticsearch. With just a few lines of code I'm able to send a massive amount of documents & have them indexed in a short period of time. The sending process is quick and easy & I have yet to experience any downtime.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

The thing I dislike the most is that the documentation doesn't always seem straightforward. When setting up my connection from a PHP server it takes a decent amount of time to get things up and running. I feel as though they could provide more detailed documentation and perhaps a few tutorials to help people get up and running quicker.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

I recommend that you at least give it a try to see if it meets your business requirements. Spend at least a day with it before deciding to use/switch to it.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Elasticsearch solves the problem of indexing and searching large amounts of records. Instead of writing custom queries to search the records; Elasticsearch has allowed me to offload that process. This has saved time and resources as well as provided more accurate search results. The clients seem to be happy with the speed and accuracy increase.

  ### 29. easy Analytics in the cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dylan C. | DevOps Intern, Real Estate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Elasticsearch is very well integrated with a lot of key AWS services including Lambda, your VPC, Cloudwatch, KMW, and many many others. On top of that it's pre-integrated with Kibana, making it super easy to setup impressive analytic services in the cloud on AWS. Using such a system is going to allow your DevOps/Infrastructure team to focus on much more important issues rather than implementing yet another system for logging and supervising your infrastructure. In my opinion, the tradeoff of customizability is worth the incredible convenience Elasticsearch will bring to your infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

the query DSL is much less known and less customizable than an equivalent database service like Postgres using SQL. You also have less control over your consistency than you would if you were running a private log caching system. In my opinion, AWS services are also incredible difficult to debug since all the hardware is off-site and only accessible through the console, meaning setup and debugging will take much longer than if it was an on-premise solution. AWS really needs to document their services better and/or offer comprehensive, in-depth tutorials on each service.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

I would suggest considering whether you really need the customizability of a private logging solution or whether you're looking for a more generic dataset.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating easily-maintable, low overhead logging and searching solutions for applications and server infrastructure. This allows us to get the general information we need without having to dedicate an entire team towards gathering simple analytics in our cloud.

  ### 30. Managed Service that is easy to deploy, operate and search!

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zochilth F. | Election Assistant, II, Government Administration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

In the end it’s a great product and easy to use. Our department chose the Elastic Cloud service since the setup was simple and it was up and running within minutes after installation.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Amazon ElasticSearch Service helps with my Amazon ES domain in which the cloud that computers and storages resources that I specify, helps immensely such as the number of types, number of instances and many options for storage. The many benefits of the managed service include self-healing clusters, enhances security and node monitoring.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The only problem that may occur is the sensitivity of using these services since one is very limited to storage as well as the clusters provisioning are linked on memory and disk space, so in order to have more space and storage, one would have to bump up the memory. And having to bump up the next tier when my storage and memory usage was not close to being maxed out.

  ### 31. elasticsearch is best service of aws

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sakshi J. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff G. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

It's very easy to set up and to monitor, there is almost no effort to get started and the abillity to change the underlying infrastructure with a few clicks. The management of master nodes prevents people from making mistakes that would be posible when running yourself.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Upgrades and the lack of plugin support to access field level security. It's improving over time but was a little rough at the beginning. Reserved instances aren't that flexable

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

High performance search at massive scale

I like that I can get a cluster up and running quickly without a lot of hassle.
Managed versions means I don't need to configure a lot to get running out the gate.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

It is more difficult to customize some aspects like the version.
They didn't open the java port so all requests have to be done via REST.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to collect customer data from various sources into one searchable space. This made is possible to do that, and gave us full document text search.

  ### 35. Amazon Elasticsearch is a good search service but is not without its problems

I like that it has a robust querying language that allows us to search for data quickly and efficiently.

Elasticsearch is really convenient for upserting and then searching through large amounts of data. It's a convenient addition to add search to a mysql db.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Documentation could be improved a little especially with regards to using kibana over vpc.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Searching over large numbers of doctors or addresses of hospitals.

  ### 39. Easily create and manage Elasticsearch cluster

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Managing an elasticsearch cluster can be a lot of work. Hosting via Amazon takes a lot of administrative overhead away and makes it easier to focus on business cases and needs.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

It tends to cost more than hosting locally, and scaling vertically and horizontally increases those costs exponentially.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

If you need a cloud instance of Elasticsearch Amazon is a great way to go. If the price isn't an issue for your organization you will enjoy the hassle-free service akin to other AWS services.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Elasticsearch serves as a very speedy data storage and querying service, and it works great for our use case of storing millions of data entries that need to be queried by software.

  ### 40. Still looking for the product to be cheaper

  ### 42. AWS Elasticsearch

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samira B. | Research Scientist, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Elasticsearch itself is an open source scalable, distributed, real-time search and analytics engine from Elastic, the creators of Logstash, Beats, and Kibana. Elasticsearch makes an excellent alternative to Splunk.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Amazon Elastic search is hardly overwhelming, coming with a very basic tool kit and an outdated release version. And it’s expensive.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A full range of instance types from which to build your clusters.

  ### 43. Good in concept, but lacks proper features and implementation

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Amazon Elasticsearch Service provides a step-by-step guide and process to setting up your own Elasticsearch infrastructure, so for those who are as familiar with DevOps experience (like me), it allows end users to navigate and set up a service quickly and easily.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

There's not much you CAN do if you do want the bells and whistles of a fully featured and operational Elasticsearch. It has no access to logs (BIG drawback, especially when it comes to debugging and measuring times for certain queries I am using in my application) and, furthermore, zero monitoring for cluster metrics, which is important for measuring how much usage we're getting out of it from a business standpoint. In the end, we had to go with a custom installation of Elastic Search because what this service offers is not even close to what we expect and need from a search and analytics engine.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

I would go with a custom installation or, if you really want to use a cloud-based service, use Amazon's Elastic Cloud instead to service your needs. Amazon Elasticsearch Service will not do enough for you to be useful.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Amazon Elasticsearch Service allows for a team like ours without limited DevOps experience/strapped DevOps people to easily service themselves with the benefits of Elastic Search for use in applications, big data analysis, and more.

  ### 44. Relatively new, but won't recommend for new users on AWS.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Provides more security and durability by providing data replication. Self healing clusters is a win. The best part was integration with amazon could watch where I could set up alarms for my instances.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

API's are read only.
No access to logs.
No access to node level metrics.
No frequent hourly backup schedule available.
Customer support is worse. Every time they try to focus the attention on shards instead of trying to troubleshoot the issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

Use Elastic Cloud instead.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To scale up my instances and integrate popular AWS modules. Used it in my 1st intern project.

The documentation available on how to use elastic search

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

Keep improving the product

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Search capabilities for solutions

  ### 46. Search at Amazon Scale

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

Fast, scalable, pretty affordable, and integrates nicely if you use other AWS products.

**What do you dislike about Amazon OpenSearch Service?**

A bit of a learning curve if you're new to AWS.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon OpenSearch Service:**

If you're already on AWS it's a no brainer, we're on the smaller side but it's worth considering pricing from other competitors.

**What problems is Amazon OpenSearch Service solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A simple way to do search at scale for over a petabyte worth of data. We're a small company with a lot of data and didn't have the infrastructure prior to elastic search to be able to search within all of our logs.
