The Amazing Marvin is a god, a king, the GOAT among productivity apps. It gives access to all of the most effective, scientifically backed methodologies - strategies, if you will - for keeping yourself and your life organized and effective. Because the app is so modular, these can be shuffled, re-shuffled, and customized at will. If there's a feature in another app or an approach to either visualizing or sorting through your data, nine times out of ten you'll find an analogue here. If not that, you'll likely find something that, with a bit of finagling, can serve exactly the same function. Not to mention that there's a high likelihood that you'll be introduced to an idea that you haven't considered yet and which could revolutionize the way you do things. When I opened Marvin, it made me angry. I hated it. I browsed around for a bit and immediately closed it. Everything about it was all wrong - but I knew that my mentor, my own personal career coach and productivity guru, swore by it. So, I opened it up again. For approximately 3 hours I thumbed through the digital pages of the LEGO building blocks that make up the apps features - strategies, they're called - and I realized that I was witnessing something special. I appreciate the wide range of features that I can customize to fit my lifestyle. The flexibility it offers in terms of design, strategies, and project management allows me to concentrate on what truly matters. Over the past few years, this tool has been incredible, supporting me through various phases of my life and consistently staying relevant. Amazing Marvin is truly amazing! Its greatest strengths are its customizability and the incredible team behind it. There are sooo many ways to customize marvin that you can make it look and behave exactly as you want it to, and whenever your needs change or need new inspiration, you can completely transform it to suit your new needs. So while in the past I'd always be switching tools and checking new apps out, now I know that with Marvin I can do everything I need to, and there are always new features that might help me.

The team behind it is small but extremely committed, kind and helpful, and there's also a great community of kind-hearted people who will quickly respond to you whenever you have an issue or need ideas for new setups or needs. - 95% there for GTD. I use Google Drive as my reference folders. Currently there is no support for a Note that is not linked to a category or a task or a project, and that is honestly fine for me. I depend on the google integrations and other features of Google Drive for tracking this info.

The "Procrastination Wizard" feature is worth the subscription price alone. This is what has been missing for me. I love to organize and tweak, but when it comes time to actually DO the work, I struggle. This was my downfall with Trello, ClickUp, paper planners, etc. With Amazing Marvin, I have the organization and features that I need in order to figure out what to do when, PLUS the assistance that I need to get over the procrastination hump. The iOS apps are lacking my favorite features of the desktop / web app. It is their number one priority right now but it's not fully released yet. My beloved Procrastination Wizard is not on mobile. Amazing Marvin helps me plan & prioritize tasks for my day, and then gives me a huge variety of tools to help me get unstuck. As someone with ADHD, I'm amazed at the flexibility & options it provides, as I quickly cycle through tools & need something new. Need help being constantly reminded at the task you're SUPPOSED to be working on? There's a tool for that. Need help figuring out where to start or what to work on next? There's a tool for that. Easily distracted and need to only see one task at a time, without any other visual noise? There's a tool for that - and on, and on, and on. It takes a while to really learn all of the tools that Amazing Marvin has, which can be overwhelming at first, particularly for folks with ADHD. During onboarding, they suggest only trying a few tools to start, which is helpful as you get to learn how to use it. Until Marvin, my favorite to-do-list manager was a Windows product called LeaderTask. I loved that the dividing line between Projects and Tasks was highly flexible. That suited me and my working style. But when new jobs, first at Google, then at Apple, pushed me into the Mac world, there was nothing like it. Even the expensive leader of the pack, OmniPlan, which my employers paid for, was just too rigid in its structure. So I started trying to build my own with Keyboard Maestro. I got a little way into that when another KBM Forum contributor suggested I might like Amazing Marvin.

Wow! Marvin has added a major level-up in the Project/Task flexibility that I was looking for. Above Projects they have Categories. These are the classifications that are always there, even if you are caught up on all your tasks (ha!). They start with Home and Work. I have eight now, with several subcategories. Projects are things that can be marked Done and can then come off your list.

Categories can have unlimited Sub-Categories. Projects can have unlimited Sub-Projects. You can convert between Sub-Categories and Projects as you need. Tasks are the individual steps of a project and when needed, a Task can have Sub-Tasks. If you need more levels of Task, then the upper task can be changed to a Sub-Project, which is a simple menu click (available in multiple menus). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I did notice that the learning curve was a bit steep. It took me a while to learn how to navigate, to recognize that I could move back out the nested stack of views with the Esc key, and more. It seems like the Help and the tutorials are about 70% there; they are written by experts who are not making beginner mistakes or having erroneous presumptions. As a career technical writer, I am very familiar with how hard that is to accomplish so Marvin is at the same level as many of the big boys. They make up for it in the patience of their support team. Marvin is the best digital time management system I've ever used. So intuitive, customizable, and beautifully designed. Every single aspect has been well-thought-out for user experience. Easy transition from other systems. It takes a slight learning curve to get the most out of it, but so worth it. It is not only free, but it also works with all the devices. I really like the idea of it, but there are places where it needs tweaks. When you schedule events, you should be able to make recurring events in addition to routine tasks.
