By performing structural analyses on fully-featured CAD assemblies within minutes, SimSolid is the game-changing simulation technology for designers, engineers, and analysts. It eliminates geometry preparation and meshing: the two most time-consuming, expertise-extensive, and error-prone tasks performed in a conventional structural simulation. Multiple design scenarios can be simulated quickly under real-life conditions. Early CAD models, in any common format, can be used. SimSolid tolerance of imprecise geometry means that, unlike CAD-embedded simulation tools, there is no need to simplify complex geometries before analyzing designs. SimSolid supports all typical connections (bolt/nut, bonded, welds, rivets, sliding) and analysis of linear static, modal, thermal properties, along with more complex coupled, nonlinear, transient dynamic effects.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

I use Altair SimSolid mainly for SES simulations post static and dynamic. I find that it makes simulations run much faster, especially useful when we're on a time crunch. It has a very intuitive GUI and helps to solve problems without requiring me to mesh the entire model. I also appreciate how it organizes all the parts easily. The identification of the board diameters is incredibly helpful, as it's usually a big problem. Overall, it helps me get my work done really fast, and the initial setup was very easy with minimal manual integration.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

I believe the token count for our system can be reduced. It consumes 50 right now, so it would be better if it consumed less.

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altair SimSolid speeds up simulations, crucial when I'm under time pressure. It allows solving problems quickly without meshing the whole model and helps in organizing parts while identifying board diameters.

It’s very fast, and the solation setup is good for early-stage design. It can analyze assemblies without needing the traditional machine workflow.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Not a complete replacement for traditional FEA. There’s less control over the numerical model, and the more advanced customer analyses can be limiting in terms of results. Still, it’s neat for engineering judgement.

I like Altair SimSolid's 'Measles' feature because it helps solve simulations in less time while achieving approximately the same results compared to traditional processes. Also, the initial setup was great, which was a big plus for me.

I find local refinement to be a bit of an issue. In certain areas, like when there's a 3mm hole, and I want to refine the mesh near it, it's not possible.

I use Altair SimSolid for structural and modal analysis. I find the 'Measles' feature speeds up simulation, delivering nearly the same results as traditional methods but in less time.

The initial setup was very smooth, and I also like how well it integrates as an add-on with NX.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

I find Altair SimSolid invaluable for quasi-static elastic simulations of parts and assemblies in aerospace. It hugely expedites the sim-iteration pipeline, enabling quick optimization of parts. What I like most is the meshless FEA, which eliminates the most time-consuming and error-prone aspect of traditional FEA—meshing. Instead of spending lots of time determining mesh sizes and refining mesh where stress concentrations exist, SimSolid allows you to skip that step entirely. Additionally, the initial setup of Altair SimSolid was very easy, and they offer a better enterprise solution along with an appealing startup package.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

The undo button is missing, which can be frustrating when I make mistakes and need to redo work. Also, the built-in tools for post-processing are limited, so I often have to use Excel for more advanced data analysis. Finally, it would be great if SimSolid decks or results could be exported out to Inspire or HyperMesh.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

So, what I like most is the integration of Altair SimSolid, because it allows me to use it under a user interface that I already know. It is also relatively easy to teach other designers, as they only need to know one interface. I also like that it is not necessary to mesh. That is actually the main reason. The results, as far as I have seen, are usable. In most cases, we have had good experiences for a quick and rough assessment. It is also important to me that one can quickly and intuitively get into the interface. This has been well achieved with Altair SimSolid. Additionally, I like that I can switch between the OptiStruct interface and the solver to quickly check if it works the same way with a mesh-based solver as it does with Altair SimSolid.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

The biggest problem is identifying the differences between a network-based solver and a non-network-based solver. Especially in special cases, it can happen that Altair SimSolid provides results that do not meet expectations. It would be important to explain these differences and bring Altair SimSolid closer to the correct solution, even if this is a lengthy process. I have not seen concrete examples in my daily life, but there have been academic papers on the subject that were sent to me.

Altair SimSolid solves the problem of not having to mesh large or complex assemblies, which saves us time. The integration into familiar user interfaces makes it easier to use, and we quickly obtain useful results for an initial assessment.

The pricing and the splitting of the licensing were done some time ago. Also, not all “features” are described in the “help,” as they are limitations of the applied technology. It is not possible to edit geometry, not even to move parts. Post-processing cannot be automated.

I like the ease of use of Altair SimSolid and how easy it is to replicate analyses on other structures. The speed with which it facilitates the flow between outlining and calculation when working with 3D elements is very useful. It is a very easy program to use from the start.

The ability to open Altair SimSolid files in read-only mode is missed, as sometimes you just need to consult a project to obtain images for documentation or to attach in an email, without the need to perform additional calculations.

I like how easy it is to use, the short learning curve, and the fact that it can be used handheld. It’s also quick and straightforward to switch to nonlinear functions when needed. On top of that, I appreciate that it can import a wide range of neutral file formats as well as native CAD file formats, which makes it possible to set up and run a simulation in seconds or minutes.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

I have nothing negative to say, it's an incredibly fast solver, five times faster than traditional finite element software. Furthermore, it's easy to learn and has numerous features, with others still under development.

I find the "auto weld creator" in Altair SimSolid amazing, where the weld length can also be determined. It provides insight into the amount of welding in complex and large structures, which is useful for cost estimations. Additionally, the initial setup is very simple.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

I find the post-processing really very laborious. I often have to adjust the legend and cannot compare two models side by side. I also find it difficult to combine SimSolid with other programs. It feels more like a 'quick and dirty' solution, while I use other solvers for more accurate or repetitive work.

I find Altair SimSolid easy for setup and delivering results within minutes for the first judgment. It's easy to get the first mode frequency range quickly, which saves a lot of time. I also appreciate that whenever I try the mode shape for the first shape, it matches with fully done simulations, though values may differ.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Mostly for models with multiple components, it becomes difficult to identify components; also sometimes it will not take all surfaces from the CAD file. Defining contact between multiple components is tricky.

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altair SimSolid allows me to get the first mode frequency range quickly and easily. It's straightforward for setting up and obtaining results within minutes for initial judgments, saving a lot of time compared to other software like Optistruct and Abaqus.

I like that Altair SimSolid is much faster than traditional FEA for pre-calculations, working on geometry without relying on the mesh. The independence from the mesh makes it much faster and allows working without simplifications regarding the original geometry. I also found that the initial setup is easy.

For complex models, the pre-processing or treatment of the geometry is not so 'quick'. Moreover, the geometry has to be almost in a 'final' state. In my environment, we need a lot of welds and our CADs come with the welding preparations already in the geometry.

What I like the best about Altair SimSolid is the ease of use it had a lot less buttons than hypermesh and its similar to some simulation's extensions from CAD softwares as Solidworks, Inventor, etc. Wthat it makes it intuitive. Something that i like a lot of Altair softwares is that they have solution engineers expert of each software that provide customer support until your doubts are solve. It's easy to implement cause in comparison to other softwares in which you have to make a mesh in SimSolid you can avoid convergence error generated by bad quality of the mesh.

The frequency in which i use SimSolid it's very poorly cause in the company in where I'm usually we work with sheet metal that requires to do a shell mesh.
So my frequency of use right now is just educative.

I can't say much of Altair SimSolid since I haven't had the opportunity to work with it. But for the last 6years I have been using Altair Hypermesh (formerly known as HyperWorks) and I can honestly say that is now my favorite FEA preprocessor. I am an avid FEA tool user (Ansys, Abaqus, LsDyna, etc...) and this is ALWAYS my favorite pre-processor. The old GUI complexity and ambiguity is gone. And the people at Altair are doing an amazing job integrating all the perks and tools of the old Hypermesh. It is not perfect and sometimes buggy, BUT still it is the best tool for FEA I have used in my 20+years of simulation experience.

If I get a FREE license to play around SimSolid, I'll do an in-depth review

Altair SimSolid is a powerful structural analysis tool that skips the usual headaches of CAD and meshing letting engineers test their designs much faster. It can handle large complex CAD assemblies with thousands of parts and still deliver accurate results for things like static, modal, buckling, thermal, and fatigue analysis. Its biggest strength is speed scenarios can be checked in just minutes making it great for early design and quick decision-making. That said, while it’s highly reliable for design iterations, it’s not meant to fully replace detailed FEA when it comes to final certification or very specialized material-level studies.

I like the meshless aspect of Altair SimSolid. It eliminates the hassle of creating meshes, making it easy to start without specialized knowledge or experience, and it's appealing for deployment to designers. Additionally, I appreciate that the UI is visually intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

If the list of settings can be exported when resetting boundary conditions, it will be easier to reset when changing parts, and I think mistakes will be reduced.

Altair SimSolid does not require mesh creation, making it easy to start and deploy to designers. The UI is also visually intuitive.
