It's very user-friendly, allowing new users to set up FE models with ease. I find that it helps me solve problems very fast and has strong capabilities for structural analysis, including optimizations. I use it every day for my FEA activities, and in our organization, we have at least 50 to 100 people using OptiStruct. **What do you dislike about Altair OptiStruct?** For complex non-linear static analysis, Altair OptiStruct could have more accuracy. It also requires the HyperMesh interface to build the FE models. **What problems is Altair OptiStruct solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Altair OptiStruct for building and simulating FE models efficiently. It solves linear and non-linear static and linear dynamic analysis problems quickly with strong structural analysis and optimization capabilities. ### 2. Help file of the solver has immense information and gives lot of in depth knowledge about the solver. Its robustness of solving problems on high performance computing clusters reduces solving time significantly. We use hypermesh as pre-processor and optistruct is the solver which is already integrated to it and thus allows us a smooth way to finish the work. **What do you dislike about Altair OptiStruct?** Optistruct has been significantly developed its capability with time. Sometime we face issues in solving highly non-linear implicit problems due to non-convergence of the model. Another challenge we face is in Modelling of non-linear spring elements and their behaviour . **Recommendations to others considering Altair OptiStruct:** Use it for structural engineering problems. It will certainly help . **What problems is Altair OptiStruct solving and how is that benefiting you?** We solve problems related to automotive structural engineering. We have worked on bus structures, fixture designs for automotive component and vehicle testing, vacuum tanks etc. We have carried out physical test co-relation activities also with the CAE results. Overall it reduces our time to come up with a solution . ### 3. The step by step approach helps to provide detailed boundary condition of the physical problem. Simulation results provide enough understanding of the physical effect and stress generation in different connections. For meshing ane material properties, Altair provides various options for different types of elements. **What do you dislike about Altair OptiStruct?** Solving different errors due to the mess quality is time-consuming. A thorough understanding of the theory behind the FEA helps to solve different errors. Although there are software available that solve the problem without even manual meshing, I don't prefer the same because there are high chances of error if something goes well particularly in the complex mechanism. **Recommendations to others considering Altair OptiStruct:** For new users of Optistruct, please go through the various free course available on the Altair University website. Those are very well in detail and give deep insights about software capability, and the method of using it. I would also recommend to attend their webinar or check old webinars for AOC available on youtube. **What problems is Altair OptiStruct solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have solved mostly the structurer problem of different parts and topology optimization of the same. The detailing in customization of boundary conditions and results detailing, I like the most. ### 7. The Setup options available are vast & can be completely be controlled to get the Desired & Feasible Output. The structural analysis capabilities are on-par with other Solvers available in the market. **What do you dislike about Altair OptiStruct?** The major downside of OptiStruct is in the Analysis Setup. Lots of Cards are to be assigned for carrying out the Analysis. Remembering all the cards & assigning the required values is what i don't link about OptiStruct. The process managers need to be more robust to ensure that it can cater to all types of Analysis. **Recommendations to others considering Altair OptiStruct:** If you're looking for a Solver to deal with Non-Linear Implicit Problems, Dynamic Response Simulations as well as looking a tool capable of Optimization; OptiStruct should be a go-to tool. Another advantage is to maximize the benefit of HyperMesh for Pre-Processing as OptiStruct is integrated inside it. **What problems is Altair OptiStruct solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main types of Problems that I deal with in OptiStruct are as follows: Linear Static Analysis, Modal Analysis, Frequency response analysis, Random Response Analysis, Non-Linear Implicit Analysis, Structural Optimization Using Topology, Topography & Size Techniques. The main benefit is the capability to carry out both Analysis & Optimization in the same interface. The workflow to take a model from Analysis to Optimization is quite streamlined.
