Backend as a Service (BaaS) is a cloud-hosted service in which vendors deliver and operate a complete backend for applications, eliminating the need for app developers to build or manage their own server infrastructure. BaaS is used by software development teams across industries and company sizes when building customer-facing applications, internal tools, and AI-powered products that require a production-ready backend, from early-stage validation through enterprise-scale deployment.

BaaS shifts backend infrastructure from a build-and-own model to a consumer-and-scale model, changing how organizations plan engineering capacity, allocate development budgets, and make decisions about what to build in-house versus what to outsource. BaaS eliminates the need to rebuild common backend components for every new application. This reduces implementation risk and lets engineering teams focus on what makes their product distinct.
