“Software Development Application to automate the steps.”
What do you like best?

Visual Studio Team Services provides the software development option with which we can automate different applications by writing macros in Visual Studio. It helps to debug the code easily with different colors. It also provides the user with syntax. It is a cloud based which allows you to store the data in the web and access it safely whenever required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Visual studio is difficult for new user to understand and it requires some basic knowledge of Visual Basics Editor. And it is a bit costly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you want to write some codes or do automation in Applications like Catia, Solidworks, Ansys use Visual Studio which provides you the best experience and the easy way to write the code and debug the issue. The only thing is you need some basic knowledge of Visual Basics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I write macros in Visual Studio so that they can be implemented on other Applications like Catia to automate the tasks and reduce the time. Using Visual Studio we can write the macros in Ansys to find the stresses and forces acting upon the elements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“PractiTest does the job!”
What do you like best?

Before using PractiTest, the hardest part was to find when one of our tests scenarios last failed, let alone graphically represent any of it. Since we moved all of our tests to PractiTest, we no longer have to go through tens of documents to dug out which release had a test failing, it's a matter of few clicks on PractiTest test scenario Traceability tab. The ability to create a Test Set from scratch helps tracking of both existing and new features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

JIRA integration could be improved further, since last few months we're no longer able to link Failed tests with corresponding JIRA tickets. This is no longer a problem, thanks PractiTest team!

If possible, Test Set Summary graphs should be made easily available to third-party applications for documentation purposes given not all colleagues would access PractiTest just to see high level updates? It'd also be nice to have Saving and Cloning operations available directly instead of being hidden in drop-downs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When using PractiTest, go all in. Move all of your existing Test Sets/Scenarios on PractiTest and maintain/review them periodically. It's a good idea to divide all tests in product components. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Maintaining existing tests and adding new ones feature-wise has made our life easy, one can even add steps to an existing test! Also, we can keep track of the time taken to execute a test scenario and break up it in further steps if needed. Searching for scenarios that are related to each user also helps with further weeding out the duplicates and arrange tests and steps sensibly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“High flexibility, powerful and intuitive tools and interface, and nice technical support.”
What do you like best?

Very flexible to our process, and team madurity and size.

Operations with Requirements, and team collaboration are consistent.

Available features are solution oriented; i.e. meeting our needs.

Great for collaborating with external partners, at different levels of the project (edition, review, validation of REQ), thanks to a clever user permission management menu. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some features not fully documented.

Bad support for keyboard shortcuts.

Moving Requirements around gets slow with volume. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

A good tool that adapts to your needs, more than you adapting to the tool.

All features at hand, with intuitive enough menus to customize Jama behavior. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using Jama to create public tenders with more than 1000 Requirements.

Jama has helped us in the traceability of the REQ: from creation/edition stage, to verification and validation.

Good for accessing from multiple accounts, reviewing them with support from external partners.

Re-use of REQ among several projects, and ease to handle sync between them, has been great.

Also good tools to export all REQ into office documents, to output part of the results.

As we evolved our development process, so did Jama. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“A great tool to produce quality products while minimizing risks to a great extent.”
What do you like best?

Helix Alm, contains functions that are quite relevant and interesting, which could be very useful for most companies, dedicated to any subject, all due to its versatility, one of these outstanding tools that are necessary and key, which this software offers, is that it maintains the information of the risk management that it possesses in an incredible way, especially in web applications, since its error management flow is totally effective in every aspect, being one of the points that most attract my attention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

You should consider an update for integrations with other platforms that allow electronic document control, in order to promote better performance when using this software, to carry out a consistent administration, mentioning that the configurations can be simpler in the backend, that is, It allows customization but its user interface is not very intuitive, since it does not offer useful information regarding the system's functionalities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Helix Alm is ideal to maintain traceability between the most urgent needs that a company could have, including the requirements and user tests for design controls for the platforms that are most useful worldwide, which is the medical sector. , without excluding that it allows these individuals to customize reports to create a matrix in a formidable margin or any other analysis that is necessary, being perfect for companies that are dedicated to development, to deliver quality products. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My organization implemented this software mainly to manage and track the errors presented in our digital platform, in order to make updates with constant renewals for greater usability in the system we have, since Helix Alm helps us in the same way to address commercial problems to a great extent, above all to maintain the traceability of design controls and effectively manage the constant failure tracking process, for us to provide better productivity and minimize the inconveniences that we usually get. “Perfect HW/SW project development & management tool”
What do you like best?

Tuleap is an easy all-in-one simple tool: you can track your tasks, manage your documentation and code versionning, write & execute tests, be Agile or V cycle, with one interface. Many of the available services are available out of the box. Some, like the Trackers, can be fully customized which is really nice since you can really adjust the data you want the user shall fill in, you can force the tasks workflow or not, etc. There is also a highly powerfull rights management included. You can also do requirements tracing with the Trackers.

They also provide a monthly update of the tool, and offer a very reactive customer feedback service for those who have an Enterprise edition (and they also reply to any request they receive even if you have a community edition). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The admin configuration of the tracker is not very easy, at least from the user interface point of view. The included document management service is not very user-friendly either (but works fine) but they are working on it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I needed a self-hosted tool which allow us to manage a complete project with full traceability of the tasks, requirements and documents as well as software versionning system. The fact that everything can be linked (for a task to a git-commit including test plan, test execution and also pull-request) was required in order to meet SIL2 functionnal safety requirements. “Great for agile planning, adequate for SWCM”
What do you like best?

I like the flexibility of the planning features and the ability to customize work item types and workflows to fit your practice. I like the ability to import templates from 3rd party sites (like scaled agile) for implemented SAFe workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The software configuration management piece doesn't allow for distributed change management where you can take code chunks or streams and export them from one instance of RTC to another. I also don't like the ability to delete projects from the database, you can only archive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Mylyn

(20)3.9 out of 5

Mylyn is the task and application lifecycle management (ALM) framework for Eclipse.

Top Full Cycle Development Software Result from ALM Suites

“Mylyn: Eclipse's hidden gem”
What do you like best?

1. I can switch context from one development task to another by a single click! This means seeing only files that are relevant to the task at hand.

2. Mylyn automatically keeps track of the time I spent in Eclipse working on the task. This is extremely cheap, and much more precise than any manual time tracking.

3. Mylyn integrates with JIRA and many other work-management applications. This means I can update JIRA task status without having to leave Eclipse window. It also allows me to attach Mylyn context to JIRA ticket, so that another developer can use it later. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

1. I use multiple Eclipse workspaces, one per development branch, and tasks sometimes span branches, i.e., workspaces, but there's no simple, bulletproof way to share the task context among multiple workspaces.

2. Sometimes, one task builds on top of another - it would be useful to start working on a task by copying the context of another, similar task. Currently, I'm not aware of a way to do that in Mylyn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Keep the tasks small, e.g., by leveraging sub-tasks. This will allow you to gain maximal benefits from Mylyn.

Optimal granularity of tasks means <= 7 open files, <= 4 hours to complete the task Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

1. Focus on a single task at a time. Not seeing irrelevant files in my IDE means less opportunities to get sidetracked. Coupled with fine-grained tasks, Mylyn allows razor-sharp focus, critical for efficient software development.

2. Every time I move from my IDE to a web browser, I risk losing focus on the development task I'm currently working on, by getting distracted either by an open browser window (e.g., Facebook), or by an extension (e.g., new GMail in my inbox). Being able to interact with my work management application without leaving my IDE means fewer distractions, which means being able to finish my development faster and with better quality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
