Having truck movements, trailer details, and delivery progress accessible through the same system is a major advantage. Location information does not always appear as quickly as we would like, especially when checking a vehicle's latest position. I use Samsara daily, and the information we’re able to receive is amazing for helping us keep our drivers safe. It also helps us identify areas where we may be deficient and provide training to mitigate hazards and reduce unsafe behaviors. The software is easy to use and can be set up for any situation. It has helped us prove we were not at fault for vehicle incidents, it reminds our drivers about mobile usage while driving and many other actions. Installation of the hardware in our trucks is very simple and upgrades are just as easy. It has allowed us to keep track of our drivers' hours of service to be compliant with DOT. We have a few hundred drivers and about 800 pieces of equipment and the system handles them with ease. Drivers love having the app on the mobile device for easy use. Samsara has provided training for our team so we can be sure to utilize all available options to us as well as help us to streamline the delivery of information to the correct individuals. At times, the amount of information available can feel overwhelming. It would be helpful to have greater flexibility to customize the platform by disabling or hiding certain features or information that may not be relevant to our specific needs. I really like how Samsara is quick and easy to install. It's also quite simple to monitor everything, which is essential for managing our fleet safety. We've had a couple of issues with Samsara where the gateway might not be working properly, and there was an instance that caused some strange issues with the electronics. We managed to get those reset and working fine again. Also, a simple thing like using the best glue to keep the cameras on the windshield could be improved. Additionally, when there's a change or an update in the way the website looks or reacts, it'd be great to have some notice. There was one update a while back that changed the website's appearance, and it required some effort to figure out where everything was moved to and what it meant. What I like most about Samsara is having truck, trailer, and shipment information available in one place. The live tracking makes it easier to monitor equipment and coordinate dispatch, while the dashboard keeps important ELD and vehicle details easy to access. The main thing I would improve is the consistency of location updates. Samsara’s camera system is what I like best. You can set the requirements based on what your company needs to monitor, and the system also monitors the cameras for you. Being able to use the safety inbox to review different flags is immensely helpful. We can quickly see what drivers are struggling to comply with, send them the snapshot videos, and have a conversation about how to correct it. Every snapshot still needs to be reviewed because AI can make mistakes, but having a clear list of events to review is much easier than going through hours of footage. Our company has pilot cars that we use to escort some of our loads. Because their role is different from our drivers, we need the settings on the pickups to be different from the tractors.

I was struggling to change a setting, so I called support. I was told they couldn’t change it because the settings had to be the same as the tractors. I knew that wasn’t right, because our previous manager who oversaw Samsara had the settings set up differently for the tractor versus the pilot car. I went back into the settings and tried again, and I contacted support one more time, but I got the same response.

Later, our company’s Samsara representative reached out to check in. I explained the issue, and she solved it right away. I dislike how confusing the settings can be, and I also didn’t like being told by customer support that changing the settings wasn’t possible when our Samsara rep was able to fix it immediately. One downside of samsara is that some features can feel overly sensitive or generate alerts that are not always accurate, which can become frustrating over time. the system can also take some time to fully learn and navigate, especially for new users. I don't receive notifications for anything that I'm in charge of. When I have actions for drivers to review, I don't know unless I specifically search that out. I also created a schedule for preventative maintenance (oil changes/DOT inspections) and included increments of which I would like things done. When things are due, I'm not notified, I only know by accessing my schedule and seeing the overdue oil change...etc. Another thing, with the app and the software on the PC, is that most of the time there is lag time due to loading. The app, specifically, has had a lot of time where it's searching for "uncertified logs". I've let it sit and think, 2 hours later it's still thinking. Also, things aren't always easy to find in the software. If I'm looking to find something like "unclaimed drive time", I usually need to search for a bit before finding where that information is at.
