I also appreciate that you can edit whatever you like and create personal API tokens. Being able to self-host is important for managing sensitive data, and the personal API tokens allow me to integrate Plane with other applications like GitHub, which automatically closes tasks when a PR is closed. **What do you dislike about Plane?** I think Plane in general is very unpolished. The UI lags very much, the application won't load until the cache is cleared which was so bad we had to make a custom UI that proxies the application on the frontend because the JS wasn't loading. There are certain features such as an image viewer that are not present in the application, so we need to download the image in order to view it. The UI is also really confusing, where an average Joe or a project manager would have difficulty assigning permissions or managing the application. I think the UI needs an overhaul in general. The main improvements needed would be allowing for preview of attached screenshots, fixing loading of the latest assets such as JS which is vital to the application, allowing for more events on the webhook, and a simpler UI. It's far too unstable to be used in a production environment. **What problems is Plane solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Plane for project management, managing tasks, and assigning them to team members based on priority and time. This was easily handled by plane and in recent versions it has even facilitated our progress reports with its newest charts' features! In my experience, Jira was too much, while asana was too simple, and clickup too convoluted... Plane's UI, on the other hand, has the most amount of information possible in a simple and beautiful UI. Our company uses it on an everyday basis and we count with all the features we need: time tracking, task estimation, traceability matrix features, gantt diagram visualization, OpenIDC integration, an API that allows us to expand upon it, heck, we even host our own database so we can create anything we want with said data. The price isn't that steep, yet it presents a really competitive solution for project management because of the fact that it combines several software use cases into a single product, and the learning curve is practically null. Besides, the support I've received from both the discord server (both from the community and the company's collaborators) has been pretty efficient and warm, so I'm really happy with this software overall. **What do you dislike about Plane?** To be honest, I would love it if the company maintained better communication; the sunset of Plane One was definitely unexpected to me, and since I was on board with said plan, it would be great to know if there will be a way to continue with said plan in the mid-term future. **What problems is Plane solving and how is that benefiting you?** - We are no longer using a software to manage our kanban tasks and a different solution in order to create our gantt diagrams. - Due to the fact that we self-host our database, we can easily expand Plane since we can simply develop other applications to modify or visualize the data. - The analytics that Plane has are super simple to use and offer us great value in order to take decisions and track the progress of our different projects. ### 7. And why has everything weird names !?" While looking for an alternative, I saw a fireship video recommending plane as a free alternative to jira. I went on and tried it thinking it wouldn't be any better than other tools but still gave it a chance. Damn was I wrong. The UI was so minimalistic and refined. I had everything I needed to plan and automate my project and the best part was: - No per-tool multi-subscription plans - Complete customization - Sharing custom tasks views - Integrated wiki and pages So much is possible with the free tier already, it's really more accessible to everyone. Plane's team is also very rapid and ingaged in user experience. Overall it's a less agressive and more pleasant experience than huge and over-complicated project management softwares. We have an intake helpdesk that didn't allow affordable tracking of work. We initially starting using Plane as lists and Kanban boards, but have since switched to Agile Sprints (called 'cycles' in Plane) and really like how we track and measure our work. While this is a fairly new product, they move fast and offer fantastic support. **What do you dislike about Plane?** There are currently just a few integrations. I would like to see one with FreshService. But their API is robust, and webhooks work very well (if a bit chatty). It is so essential as a developer in my opinion to have a plan of your task list and being able to quickly and concisely update this is without doubt one of thee most important things. Some project management tools enforce you to create checklists by writing them out one at a time but Plane keeps it like a bulleted list. This means it takes away the clunkiness of requiring a mouse to update a tasklist which most coders that I know do not like. Other features I really like: The ability to quickly see different views such as table, kanban/board, timeline etc. The ability to block issues due to another issue. The ability to filter out updates/comments as I leave my done tasklists in the comments section and an on-going to-do tasklist in the card description. The ability to colour text within the card description. The ability to personalise the theme on desktop. The fact it has a mobile app. The ability to contact customer support as a chat bubble. **What do you dislike about Plane?** There are only one or two things that I think could be improved within Plane and I do not think they're dealbreakers at all: Firstly the word issues is a bit negative and instead should be tasks ideally but apparently this is being rectified. Secondly the hyper mode that is hidden away under the help section actually caused my counts to become very buggy, presumably due to some caching on my local browser and then showing a count higher than actual visible issues. That is pretty much the only two pointers I have come across but I realise people will use this software in different ways. I suppose the biggest downside to it could be the implementation within a business because if a business does not utilise the tool correctly then it will not aid them. To counter this perhaps more of a structured approach is required when creating issues or an OPTIONAL tutorial on not how to use the software but rather get the best out of Plane. **What problems is Plane solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a small team but we are utilising it to keep track of tasks and project manage effectively. The greatest benefit is the tasklists but being able to quickly view tasks, put deadlines, see a timeline etc are all extremely useful features.
