  ### 8. The (second) best a self hosted solution can provide!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jamie M. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

OwnCloud is entirely free, (with paid options) it is entirely white label out the box so you can brand it yourself.
It has some incredible customisation from plugins to themes to even creating and adding your own.
A huge plus is it can be as technical or as easy as you like, if your looking for a family shared file space it's fast and simple to set up and has all the tools you need.
If your an enterprise it also scales and has all the technical features you need to do complex file management, run extra applications on or voice and video call.
All without a monthly fee. Set it up, run it on your hardware and break free from the big guys.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

OwnCloud is not quite as powerful as it's rival NextCloud, they are very similar but NextCloud lends it's self much better for enterprise use and some functionality.

Eventually and unfortunately I made the decision to move to using NextCloud as my personal use moved towards needing a more commercial and professional solution.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

OwnCloud is great for personal use and has a fairly easy set up on a web server, However; if you would like voice calling and better support and be able to upgrade to an enterprise solution.

Go with NextCloud, they are very similar.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I had my own dedicated server with lots of storage space, I was paying far less for this space than I would for most cloud services and it had much more functions that I could run on it like my web server.

I needed a file service to sync my files across my three devices, I had used up OneDrive and Google drive was too costly and lacked the features that I needed.

I also had PC's and a Mac in my network so needed a cross platform solution. It was a huge plus that I had full control of the solutuon since I was the one hosting it!

  ### 9. CompuData Cloud Hosting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

We have the ability to fully customize our cloud environment as well as our software. CompuData cloud provides advanced customization capabilities, complete control over your environment, and full admin access – even to the SQL database. This allows you to maintain control of software updates and have access anytime to our servers. The cloud is built for ERP and financial applications.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Really nothing. We chose the cloud so that we had 99.999% uptime and that has saved us during the current situation.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

If you want control of your software and better control of your security, I recommend the cloud.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our people can easily work remotely and access all of the software, email and everything. WE can chose to update our software package rather that in a SAAS cloud where the company does an automatic upgrade. We felt having control of our software and upgrades were extremely important since we have many customizations. When we were in the SAAS environment, when an upgrade occurred we had to go back through our customizations. The cloud saved us a lot of time.

  ### 10. OwnCloud Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zlatislav K. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

One of the best things about Owncloud is that it is an open platform and you can share files easily. It's easy to upload and download documents, playback short videos, do a presentation in the cloud. There is a nice system where users can create a lot of different folders/subfolders and manage their file the best way it suits them. The storage allocation is also neat.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

The web-based interface and graphic are something slow, there is no default video viewer, however you can install one(or ask the Admin to do it). There is also no default document editor. Loading photographs especially large ones is a quite time consuming task and it mostly depends on your network connection/speed.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I personally use it for file sharing with the organization i work for and expect that i have a personal ownCloud installed on my machine which i use to easily transfer files at home to my other PCs and family.

  ### 11. powerful storage tool

  ### 12. Excellent and private cloud service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rodolfo J. C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Great user interface, very easily administered backend, and complete and total privacy for our data. Our clients sometimes need their privacy protected and my certifying entity needs a total and private handling of my client's data, thus this solution check all the correct marks.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

It's a bit more expensive than other options.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Privacy of data. Backups of our onshore and nearshore data.

  ### 13. Easy way for storing and sharing files

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Easy to use
Easy to install
And perform well

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

In my entreprise we use it to store mock responses of external third party APIs and services. The stored files can be modified by any one at any time causing our mock apps to fail. We would like if it's possible to add ready only kind of files.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

File storage for sharing theme with others and apps.

  ### 14. ownCloud, Complete cloud solution for all your needs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea E. | Responsabile sviluppo web, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

ownCloud let you setup your own cloud in minutes, but there is not just cloud files feature!
With the apps market you can setup your organisation workspace, adding calendars, todo lists, project management, mail client etc. All in one place, all accessible from your local network or internet!
With the mobile app you could stay connected to your cloud, synchronise and use your files in mobility.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

ownCloud is a lightweight opensource solution, by the way this doesn't mean that could do anything, there is some missing features that could make it a perfect solution.
Adding a CRM (maybe paid) packages could let you never leave ownCloud, but, we can't have anything maybe. Creating an SDK may be helpful to developer to create something else than the apps provided in the marketplace.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

Have a good machine to install, yes, you could put it in all system you want, but using a server, built from file sharing, with a two gigabit ethernet ports, SSDs, better in RAID 0 to maximize the speeds and good RAM will let your ownCloud installation run smoother and faster

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With ownCloud, at my agency, we got all (at least) we need to work with our files in mobility.
Many times, my clients need to send me files, or I need to share files with him, you could use more known services to do this, but Hey! I got my own system, that sound more serious!
At other side, we got the ability to have the same kind of service than a "more known" suite available on the market but with the speed of a local network!

  ### 15. ownCloud - Truly a great product!

Centralized portal to store documents and collaboration tools.

  ### 16. ownCloud For easy access

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

This is best solution every when you are thinking about the cloud, Its open source & place your data & get it from any where in the world. Its a cloud solution & place data like file, documents, media files & mobile backups & File.

It single point of failure than it will not be available than you will disconnect with your data.

Make it more improve ....this is best one no comments

I am using it with frequently as this cloud computing world , mean where you are than you data with you.

  ### 17. OwnCloud: online service for data transfer and collaboration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cecilia T. | Human Resources Team Lead, Human Resources, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

ownCloud is very easy to use from the organizational point of view. It has an extremely clear Interface for our main goals and activities. It allows us to test the data storage site so that our photos, music and other files are displayed and played directly within the browser tab.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

In ownCloud, you must manage your facilities, software upgrades, backup systems, and security by yourself. I wish some of these could be done automatically. Recently, the integration with Collabora Online was possible but it's very poor in contrast to Office365 or the editing of SharedPoint files via desktop.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

OwnCloud is the perfect tool for companies that have a private or small-scale file server. Once ownCloud is conveniently installed, it is able to support seamlessly a large user base by many instances. I would recommend you use it in a VM so that you can screenshot or restore the Database, as almost nothing can be done directly within the own cloud application. However, I think ownCloud would be inadequate for clients that want cooperative file writing and only use Office365 or the G Suite.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Within our community, we use ownCloud as our online service for data transfer and collaboration with other staff members to save or share files between individuals and our own personal accounts. OwnCloud is perfect for allowing our sensitive information to be saved on the cloud from anywhere, by using some minimal offline features.

  ### 18. Data sharing and file syncing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

This is the best tool to sync files within any organization that you work for. It has made data and file sharing easier

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

I don’t dislike anything about using owncloud

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Owncloud has made accessing files and documents easier. It has allowed to sync files, made collaboration easier for the teams as you can access the files from any device. It also provides the ability to share files with external users by sending password-protected sharing links. You can also set expiration dates for these links.

  ### 19. It is one of the best cloud sharing services

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

You can share a set of files in a folder to someone

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Cannot open the document online, need to download it every time

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was used for the project

  ### 20. Very Stable Opensource Cloud Storage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Umair A. | Senior Solution Architect , Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I really liked ownCloud for its simplicity. We have used its opensource version and deployed on-premise and integrated with Amazon S3 for web applications file sync. Integration with Amazon S3 for the files storage.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

There are not so many community support.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

If you want your cloud storage with multiple integrations then ownCloud is very reasonable choice to select due to its out of the box integrations.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

central file hosting

  ### 21. Take back control of your sensitive data from the data sharks out there!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Having your own cloud infrastructure that allows you to store your data in your own network and make it available over the internet quickly and easily is possible thanks to owncloud, because you have all your information there available to share with your colleagues or edit it wherever you are, has many applications that allow you not only to have your information there, but you can from the cloud, play, view, edit your files instantly.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Requires you to manage the infrastructure, software updates, backups and security because it is self-hosted
The picture viewer in ownCloud is not really snappy by default (You need to setup plugins or some kind of cache)
No video viewer by default
The web UI requires a cache setup to have reasonable load times (to be fair, it is recommended in the admin page)
I stopped using the calendar and contacts plugins because after each update they would break

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

OwnCloud/Nextcloud is a great application for cloud storage of files, and makes sharing specific files or folders easy and fast. It also makes a great tool for real-time collaboration, including real-time chat and simultaneous editing of documents or spreadsheets. I have used ownCloud to assist clients in sending large files that could not be emailed -- for example, one of my clients is a Video Production agency. They produced a commercial to air, but could not email the file as it was 400MB. OwncCloud came to the rescue. I set up a temporary share and allowed him access to upload into that folder. Once the file was in the folder, I generated a share link that was then forwarded to TV stations for instant viewing in a browser. Each TV station then downloaded it and was able to add it to their scheduling system quickly.
From the Photography side... I am able to deliver large amounts of files quickly and easily to my clients, and they can download or view on mobile devices easily.
Since I use ownCloud on a daily basis, I cannot think of any reason why I would not use this software.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use ownCloud in the export department of the organization to exchange files with our customers. Some users use it for their personal cloud to work from with all their files and media 100% in the cloud. It solves quick and painless file exchange with no password issues. The links can be set to expire after a certain time.
All data is on our own servers, we don't have to be afraid of misuse of our information/industrial espionage, etc. we are 100% in control of our own data.

  ### 22. Own cloud for free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2020

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

You're able to store your data and sync it between computers, phones, tablets..

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

i'f you need to sync to much small files it may not be the best solution

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

avoid paying for storing your data, use your "old" disk and sync it with owncloud

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

you're the owner of your data, you can avoid using google drive, microsoft onedrive, with no cost.

  ### 23. your private cloud your data with you

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrian F. | IT Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Having your own cloud infrastructure that allows you to store your data in your own network and make it available over the internet quickly and easily is possible thanks to owncloud, because you have all your information there available to share with your colleagues or edit it wherever you are, has many applications that allow you not only to have your information there, but you can from the cloud, play, view, edit your files instantly.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

To share files with your office colleagues, requires that you install a separate application called libreoffice online version and thus manage these resources in real time, see who makes the changes and have better control of who accesses the documents, without this would have many problems version control, if many people are using your file at the same time.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

Integrate the cloud with authentication solutions so that you can integrate existing systems such as zimbra and this way you have centralized your user accounts, you do not have to create these again for each system you manage.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Online storage is very common today, but you always have to place your files on servers of other applications and the information is no longer yours, although these companies offer confidentiality, because you can not know if your information at any time is compromised.

  ### 24. Excellent application for private storage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edwin P. | IT Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

The possibility of having your data in a private application, which you can publish to the Internet with the security that you own your information and share it with people inside or outside the institution with or without authentication using the direct access link or previously shared key, in addition to easy integration with other systems such as zimbra, active directory or ldap among others.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

As changes made through the web administration are written in real time, if you make a change you may lose communication with other applications or authentication services, for example if your domain is local.com and you are writing local.co and you change to another field in the tab the changes are saved and you lose communication to the authentication server, preventing users to connect.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

If you use Active Directory synchronization it is good to perform the tests through the terminal, connecting by ssh direct to the server so that you do not have problems and guarantees that is integrated into your authentication service.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When you work with sensitive or sensitive information, you do not want it to be handled by others without your consent, have a service very similar to dropbox but that you have the power to manage your platform, and move the files that are managed within the institution to the Internet without having to place them on public platforms is very good, also the integration to libreoffice version server allows you to several people can edit documents in real time or simultaneously.

  ### 25. ownCloud - Your own cloud.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ludovic C. | Tax Manager, Renewables & Environment, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Owncloud is an entirely free solution that allows the user to create and manage a private cloud for files. Owncloud is a modular solution that gives the user many possibilities. Owncloud, in addition to the option to store and synchronize files gives us the ability to share files by creating a unique URL for each file. You can sync the shared data between different devices, as well as between your computer and phone with the application installed. Owncloud is a solution that gives many options to customize the service to suit the needs of the user so that the user can make many changes, for example, can add a selected number of domains. One of the options I like very much is the ability to preview PDF files so that I can browse PDF files while on the move with the computer synchronized faster. Owncloud gives us the ability to add users to the service, as well as to allocate them a selected amount of disk space.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

- Application for mobile devices even though the solution is available free of charge, it is payable.

- Users do not have experience with server management may not be able to cope.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

I recommend using Owncloud to users who want to transform their private server into a private cloud service.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OwnCloud gives me the ability to store my data on a private server in a secure way, which significantly reduces the costs that I would incur when purchasing a dedicated cloud service.

  ### 26. ownCloud - Space for your files

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Textiles | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

ownCloud is particularly easy for its ease of use. The cleanly laid out UI resembles the sort of stripped-down design of a standard file manager. You can create your system and know that you can reach into these folders whenever you need them, and ownCloud comes backed with a robust selection of search and filtering options. You can designate favorites for better access and scour through revisions you've created so that you can more effectively monitor the history of your documents, images, or videos.OwnCloud offers integration for elastic search, a powerful full-stack cloud-based search engine that can be incredibly valuable when you're storing large amounts of complex analytics in your virtual ownCloud space. That enables you to turn ownCloud into a virtual resource network for your marketing, sales, and customer service teams. It is a painless process to make sure that everyone who needs your data receives it.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

The process of creating a server and its configuration can be quite complicated for new users.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

I recommend Owncloud solution for users looking for a solution for their company, but also for people working at home because Owncloud allows us to reduce the costs that we would spend on the purchase of cloud services.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Owncloud gives my team the ability to share files securely on our corporate server.

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

be able to have an application that allows me to take with me files that I may need at any time, and all under my infrastructure, so these files are not being used by third parties, nor are available on public use servers such as dropbox, among others. It also has an important amount of tools that facilitate the handling of documents and other files, which allows us to reproduce or edit on the same server.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

the modification and search in the administrator is done in real time, ie every character q placed searching, if your number of users is very large, this makes your search is not done correctly or is left lagueado the server and you must wait a while to respond. I hope it will be corrected in future versions

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

you can use an add-on that allows you to restrict the type of extensions that users can store in your cloud, so file extensions that are usually viruses or malicious programs.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In corporate environments, most companies choose to restrict access to USB ports to computers, to prevent viruses from entering through this medium, as well as the extraction of sensitive information. But what alternatives do they give to their users? ounclowd is an alternative portable data storage, with the log of activities you can observe the data that each user has stored or downloaded, so your information will always have control of the path of the files.

is the best alternative to private cloud, you can store content and have them available on the Internet, with the security that it is your information and is not being used by third parties, as you have hosted it IN YOUR OWN CLOUD as its name indicates, also has many pluggins which gives it a much greater appeal, because not only store information, but you can also edit documents without the need to download them first, and share these documents with members of your company or people or external institutions.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

To integrate with other systems such as for example ldap authentication, you must be very careful, because as it saves in real time, if we add the domain data badly, this will give us problems communicating with the authentication servers and generates problems to users who could not log in.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

take into account all the advantages of extrar that can be added to owncloud, such as integration with ldap, zimbra, webdav, libreoffice, among others. will make your cloud a more comprehensive system of document management.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When handling sensitive information, it is difficult to make the decision to place this information in the cloud, because as we know placing in a public cloud implies that the company that offers the service could be using this information for some reason, having your own cloud allows you to own your information and only you decide with whom it is shared.

  ### 30. ownCloud - Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mélanie L. | Executive project manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

The main advantage of Owncloud is the fact that it is a free, open-source solution that allows us to create a cloud and manage its content using applications available on most major operating systems, and mobile. Owncloud allows us to synchronize your data, so we can use Owncloud to create backups. Another great advantage of Owncloud is the fact that any limits of disk space do not limit us because it depends on the disk we have on the server, so we can significantly save on the purchase of a dedicated cloud solution. Owncloud is used when sending small and large files, so you can save a lot of time on sending attachments because each file stored on Owncloud can be shared with an external link.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

One of the drawbacks that can be annoying for some users is that we are responsible for the cloud created using Owncloud and we do not have the support that would be able to help us.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

If you are looking for a solution that will allow you to create your cloud, you should consider trying out Owncloud, especially since this solution is available for free and has documentation that will make it much easier for us to install.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2019

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Owncloud allows us to create our own private cloud as well as to manage it. During the long term use of Owncloud, I liked the most the fact that this solution is available completely free of charge, so all we pay for is our VPS / Dedicated server so we can save a lot of time at the turn of the century. By using OwnCloud, our files are safer than other cloud solutions or hosting solutions because we control them and do not have to worry about any surveillance. Owncloud, in addition to cloud management, allows us to manage users who have access to the cloud or to allocate resources. Another huge advantage of Owncloud is the fact that this application allows us to synchronize our devices, including smartphones so that Owncloud can become a replacement for popular solutions.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

- The process of loading graphics files sometimes takes some time.

- The application for a mobile device is, payable what is, quite strange because the solution itself is available completely free of charge.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel Alfonzo A. | Analista de infraestructura, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2018

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

It is very simple to install and much easier to use, you can have tur organized files in folders and share them with whoever you want.

You can indicate who can and who can not see the files.

Its interface is very simple and intuitive, nothing to envy to other commercial solutions that offer the same service. It has an app for mobile devices, which makes the user has very easy access to your cloud.

The implementation of this software is very simple and can be done in any equipment that complies with the basic characteristics to be installed.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

So far I have no negative aspects to indicate

Since he has more than fulfilled his wide market helps its implementation in large quantities. Being a free software you have the freedom to do what you want with this software. The possibilities are endless.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

Its interface is very simple to use, it does not require to be an advanced user in infomatica.

It has application for mobile device, which facilitates its access.

It is a platform for easy installation and very easy to manage, both for the administrator and for the end user.

Being free software, it can be customized according to your preferences.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing files with several users both inside and outside the company, with its versatility just to authorize users or send the link to the file or folder already authorizes the use of files.

The hierarchical structure of the users allows to establish different permissions to be able to enter and manage their files.

Now the files are in a private cloud which can be accessed from anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection.

  ### 47. Your private cloud, all the control of your data for free

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** César O. | Técnico Especialista en Informática de Sistemas, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2018

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

Give a simple and efficient storage for your organization.

When you share data with another user of ownCloud, these are not subtracted from storage, as in Dropbox.

You can connect an existing LDAP and avoid having to manually create hundreds of users.

You can connect other local or new storage services (NFS, SAMBA, Dropbox, Drive ...) and manage them from ownCloud

Apart from the storage, it is possible to manage contacts, bookmarks, collaborative edition of documents, and many other things, all through a complete plug-in store

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

The software version changes are not trivial. They require research and tests

An update without planning could cause damage or service drops.

The mobile client is not very pretty and lacks many features, speed and ease of use that its competitors have.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

It is necessary to maintain the infrastructure.

The advantage over a business plan like Dropbox is obvious. There are no monthly payments, you control your data ...

But in return, you will have to set up your own infrastructure (servers, network) and you will need someone to administer and maintain it (maintenance, updates, security)

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manage the storage of a research department.

Centralize the use of the cloud and centrally manage backup copies

Integration with other pieces of free software, such as LDAP

  ### 48. Very good alternative to comercial clouds

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2018

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

OwnCloud allows you to create your own cloud system to store files, manage calendars, contacts or event tasks. The best is that is opensource, and is maintained by the community.
As a difference with the commercial systems, the files that you save, will be stored in your server, while the limit of space is the amount that you want, equals with the number or users. In other words, you don't need to take care about the space that you use or the number of users that pay license.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

As a negative point, just I can say that is not a closed system like Dropbox or Google Drive that you can start using without any previous consideration, in owncloud, you need an IT specialist that set the service up.

**Recommendations to others considering ownCloud:**

It's the best option of opensource program to make your own-cloud

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows our organization to store the files online, been accessible from anywhere. Also the collaborative environment allows as to share files or calendars between as with any difficulty.
