## IBM NS1 Connect Reviews
  ### 1. Powerful Dynamic DNS Routing, But a Learning Curve for Complex Policies

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arkajit D. | Chief Technology Officer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2026

**What do you like best about IBM NS1 Connect?**

What I like best about IBM NS1 Connect is how much operational control it gives over traffic routing and DNS performance without adding unnecessary complexity to network management workflows.
One situation where it became especially valuable for us was during high-traffic fintech onboarding campaigns and transaction-heavy operational windows where traffic spikes could impact application responsiveness across regions. Instead of relying on static DNS behavior, NS1 Connect allowed us to route traffic dynamically based on latency, health checks, and infrastructure availability. That flexibility helped maintain much more stable user experiences during peak usage periods.

What stood out immediately was the speed and responsiveness of DNS changes. During infrastructure incidents or deployment rollouts, traffic policies could be adjusted very quickly without waiting through slower propagation cycles that we had experienced with older DNS setups. For customer-facing systems where uptime and response consistency directly affect onboarding and transaction completion rates, that operational agility made a real difference.

From a usability perspective, the platform balanced enterprise-grade functionality with a relatively clean operational experience, which helped engineering and infrastructure teams collaborate more effectively during incident handling and rollout planning.
Overall, IBM NS1 Connect delivered strong value by improving traffic reliability, operational flexibility, and infrastructure responsiveness across critical production systems.

**What do you dislike about IBM NS1 Connect?**

As our fintech infrastructure expanded across multiple environments and regions, configuring advanced routing policies, failover logic, and traffic optimization rules required much more planning and operational understanding than initially expected. The platform offers a high degree of flexibility, but that flexibility also increases the complexity of managing large-scale DNS workflows safely.

Another challenge we experienced was around operational visibility during highly customized routing scenarios. The monitoring and analytics capabilities are strong overall, but when troubleshooting complex traffic behavior across multiple providers, regions, and failover policies, identifying the exact cause of routing anomalies occasionally required deeper manual analysis than expected.

From a UI/UX perspective, the platform is functional and infrastructure-focused, but some administrative workflows still feel more engineered toward experienced network teams than broader operational users. Teams unfamiliar with DNS operations faced a noticeable learning curve during onboarding, especially around advanced policy configuration and automation workflows.

The integrations with cloud and infrastructure ecosystems were valuable, but maintaining consistency across evolving deployment environments and automation pipelines required ongoing operational governance.

**What problems is IBM NS1 Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

IBM NS1 Connect solved a major operational problem for us around maintaining application availability, intelligent traffic routing, and fast failover across distributed production environments.

In one healthtech workflow, we were managing patient-facing appointment scheduling and teleconsultation systems that experienced highly uneven traffic spikes during specific hours and seasonal campaigns. Before implementing NS1 Connect, traffic routing was relatively static, so when one region or infrastructure cluster became overloaded, users started experiencing slower response times and intermittent service instability. IBM NS1 Connect helped us introduce dynamic traffic steering based on endpoint health and latency conditions, which improved platform responsiveness significantly during peak usage periods.

Another operational benefit came during infrastructure maintenance and unexpected outages. Previously, rerouting traffic during incidents required more manual intervention and slower DNS propagation handling. With NS1 Connect, failover decisions became much more automated and responsive, reducing disruption for end users accessing critical healthcare services.

We also used the platform in fintech-related environments supporting onboarding systems and transaction-heavy customer workflows across multiple cloud regions. During high-volume onboarding campaigns, traffic loads shifted unpredictably between regions, and maintaining low latency became important for customer conversion and operational reliability. NS1 Connect helped distribute traffic more intelligently across infrastructure endpoints instead of relying on rigid DNS policies.

A major advantage operationally was improved visibility into traffic behavior and infrastructure health. Engineering teams could proactively monitor routing conditions, endpoint performance, and failover events before issues escalated into customer-facing incidents.

The URL redirect facility provided by this platform also ensures the stability of the sites normally or even during migration. This allows better user experience of the one browsing the site.
The platform capability to schedule a report is also really good with options provided in which type of file, when and how the report will be generated.

**What do you dislike about IBM NS1 Connect?**

I love the most part of this platform but I have to admit that the complexity of this platform is also there. The user needs to be trained and a professional knowing the stuff for efficient and effective handling of this platform. Other than this the price is also high but considering the utility of this platform it would be totally worth it but it may not easily come under the budget.

**What problems is IBM NS1 Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform increases the reliability of the DNS. It resolves the traffic issue which is also paramount in operation. It really increases efficiency of the connectivity. It is also worth mentioning about the reliability of the security provided by this platform. With the robust ecosystem of this platform , The platform becomes more reliable and powerful.

  ### 7. IBM NS1 Connect Improved Our Global Traffic Stability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about IBM NS1 Connect?**

We’ve been using IBM NS1 Connect to manage our global application traffic, and it has made a noticeable difference in overall stability.

**What do you dislike about IBM NS1 Connect?**

Complexity and learning curve
The platform’s powerful “Filter Chain” system and its advanced steering policies are often seen as challenging for beginners or smaller teams to learn and use effectively, especially without significant network expertise.

**What problems is IBM NS1 Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increased uptime and reduced latency are key benefits. DevOps efficiency also improves through automation via APIs (Terraform, Ansible).

Global resilience is strengthened by a 100% uptime SLA and 26 global PoPs, helping ensure applications remain accessible even during massive DDoS attacks. Cost control is another advantage, since organizations can optimize multi-CDN and multi-cloud usage based on real-time performance data and contractual commitments.

At the same time, there are clear limitations and risks with more traditional approaches. Static routing limitations mean traditional DNS relies on fixed rules that can’t account for real-time network congestion or ISP outages. Single points of failure are common when organizations depend on a single cloud or CDN, which increases vulnerability to major regional outages. Manual deployment risks also matter: managing global DNS records by hand is slow and error-prone, especially during rapid deployment cycles. Finally, performance inconsistency can occur when users in different geographic regions experience different latencies depending on which server they are routed to.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 11, 2025

**What do you like best about IBM NS1 Connect?**

In my work, I have used a combination of tools to handle dynamic routing, in case of Disaster recovery which adds an additional cost, for example AWS Global Accelerator and Route 53. While I can both manage my DNS and dynamic routing simply from one service i.e NS1.

**What do you dislike about IBM NS1 Connect?**

Does not have a sophisticated native monitoring tool. It’s needs to be integrated with 3rd party tool which adds an additional cost and technical burden.

**What problems is IBM NS1 Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

During the failover from Datacenter to Disaster Recovery site, one has to update the DNS records or has to maintain a global DNS, in case of failover. To maintain a Global endpoint, we need to have an additional solution, but NS1 fixes the need for third party solution and is natively integrated for dynamic DNS and policy management. One other use case for my business is its geo fencing solution. Generally an additional WAF is required for such feature but not anymore with NS1.

The automation and manageability of IBM NS1 connect are its most alluring features, the API-first architecture makes it simple for me to incorporate NS1 connect's features into my development processes, when compared to manually configuring DNS settings, this save a significant amount of time.
NS1 provide a number of features , including tutorials and customer support , to get up and start using it .

  ### 45. Great for dealing with cybersecurity problems

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabriella N. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2023

**What do you like best about IBM NS1 Connect?**

I like the managed-DNS solution by NS1, mostly because of its URL forwarding option (URLFWD record). This is specifically helpful when dealing with a cybersecurity problem where you are somewhere between your domain provider, hosting company, and a DNS or security management platform.

My experience when I dealt with a cybersecurity problem was:
When I moved the website from the hosting company I was using and parked it with the domain provider the problem stopped. I was able to see this from the stats of the security management platform I was using.
This gave me a chance to figure out what the problem was, but the website was down. Being able to set forwarding from the domain provider with nameservers pointing to the security management platform would have been great but it was not possible. I was also not able to set up forwarding with the security management platform either.

In short parking, the domain, and pointing name servers to a security management platform, halted the problem but left the website down. And I was not able to set up forwarding from either the domain provider or the security management platform.

Using NS1 would be:
Point nameservers to NS1 and being able to access the DNS, see stats/queries by location, and then set up URL forwarding. This way a website would not be completely down while resolving a problem.

When I was going through the cybersecurity problem I had not come across NS1, I just came across it recently, but its a keeper. At that time I ended up with a site that was down for a long time.

I also like how NS1 shows queries. You can see activity at 30-minute intervals (almost in real-time) and you can set a filter to see activity over 1 hour or 24 hours, which is great.

**What do you dislike about IBM NS1 Connect?**

Even though NS1 shows queries almost in real-time, the shortfall is that it does not show the URLs that are being requested. If for instance, you see that queries to a website are not as expected perhapse they are too high indicating that there could be a cybersecurity problem you are not able to explore this further by seeing the URLs that are being requested.

The other issue is that there is no option to add a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate.

I do appreciate that a more detailed view of web traffic and the option to add an SSL is something that you would get from a hosting company, but it would just be cool to have this in one place? NS1 would be a one-stop spot to fix some cybersecurity problems.

**What problems is IBM NS1 Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NS1 helps me manage DNS and to see website queries
