## ManicTime Reviews
  ### 1. Ideal Hourly Time Tracking for Accurate Billing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

I bill by the hour and spend almost all of my time at a computer. This program is ideal for tracking what I really do. It allows me to see what time I actually spend working versus doing nonsense, so that I can render accurate bills. This program is well worth the price of admission. The annual license fee is low (it's gone up a little bit in the last few years) and I have no qualms about paying it in order to take advantage of periodic updates.

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

I don't see any downsides. For a detailed view of what you're doing, you can save screenshots automatically and frequently. I do it every 20 seconds, which eats up a lot of disk space, but I delete the screenshots after I render my bills.

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This helps me create accurate bills. Nobody wants to be overbilled, and when it happens, it can quickly hurt your reputation.

  ### 2. Gold Standard of Documented Time Tracking

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua S. | System Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2023

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

ManicTime’s ease of use is unmatched, thanks to its intuitive interface and flexible granularity in time-tracking. The power to dive as deep as you need into data with comprehensive tagging and reporting systems is a significant upside. Its vast number of features like document, application, and activity trackers streamline the process of managing and analyzing time efficiently. Moreover, ManicTime’s advanced search capabilities, coupled with the functionality to annotate tagged time, make it a vital tool for enhancing productivity and recalling information during discussions.

The ease of implementation is another major benefit; integrating ManicTime into our existing systems was a breeze, requiring minimal effort to get up and running. The desktop client's seamless operation and the standalone version's affordability make it an excellent choice for individual and team use. ManicTime stands out for its robustness and reliability, which is why I find myself utilizing it daily for meticulous time tracking in my primary job and side projects, proving its extensive frequency of use.

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

The ManicTime Cloud's web UI doesn't quite match the desktop client's standard, falling short in both aesthetics and functionality. A revamp to align it more closely with the desktop version would enhance user experience. While PostgreSQL is the chosen backend, which I understand and respect from an IT perspective, adding MySQL support could increase flexibility for users with existing MySQL solutions. Despite these aspects, ManicTime’s customer support is commendable, with responsive, personable, and highly competent assistance. The team’s approachability and willingness to engage with bug fixes and feature requests exemplify their exceptional service, solidifying my trust and satisfaction as a user.

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ManicTime addresses the critical need for accurate time tracking and client billing, a vital component of service provision in the MSP space. Its hierarchical tags system and the capability to conduct filtered historical searches using RegEx are particularly beneficial for my role. This functionality allows for precision in billing, ensuring that every minute is accounted for and appropriately billed in ConnectWise Manage and to my private clients. The time saved in logging and reporting directly translates into cost savings, with the tool paying for itself in a matter of weeks.

Additionally, ManicTime serves as an invaluable cognitive extension for memory recall. During team discussions, the ability to rapidly retrieve past notes and activities has enhanced our collective decision-making and accountability. This feature has not only bolstered productivity but also significantly reduced the cognitive load on staff, allowing us to focus more on client needs and less on administrative recall.

Although I didn’t utilize the ConnectWise Manage plugin, the ease of transferring data from ManicTime to CWM signifies its seamless utility in our operations. The integration, even without direct plugin use, demonstrates ManicTime’s adaptability and proves it's an indispensable asset in managing the intricacies of MSP workflows. The dual benefits of enhanced billing accuracy and improved memory recall are just a few examples of the tangible business problems ManicTime helps resolve in our day-to-day operations.

  ### 3. Great productivity saver and excellent service and support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shane F. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2024

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

Very detailed time capture tools that allow maximum configuration

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

Options for viewing and tracking times automatically could be improved

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping track of billable time in an efficient manner

  ### 4. If you work on multiple projects, this software is for you!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie S. | Graduate Research Assitant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2020

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

This software automatically tracks the time you spend on your computer. When you step away from your computer for a certain length of time (set by user), it will prompt you to tag that time. For example, if I'm getting coffee and have a 20 minute chat about the weekend, I tag it as personal. But if I have a chat about an upcoming or existing project, I tag it about that project. For the tasks you do on the computer, it can save screenshots every X seconds (again, set by user), so that you can have a reminder when you go to do your billing what each task was for. Now, I work with sensitive data, so those screenshots gave me pause... but you can also password protect the program, and/or turn off screen shots! Once you have your time all tagged, you can just generate a time sheet! You can also mark some tasks as billable and others as not, so that you can generate a time sheet of ONLY billable tasks. Oh, and you can export it as well, in case you use something else for invoicing.

Also:
They have a portable version in case you can't install locally (full functionality)
License is per user, not per machine (they kick you out if you are on two machines at the same time, I think)
All the data is stored locally, so you're not putting your whole life out there (there is a cloud version, though, if you prefer)
OH! And they offer a killer student discount!

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

I have not really figured out the Auto Tagging feature. It should be relatively easy, but ...

**Recommendations to others considering ManicTime:**

Their free trial period offers full functionality, and does not require payment up front. After that you can switch to free with limited functionality or buy a 1-year license. I needed some of the professional features, so I bought the license, but the free version is pretty good as it is!

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to have to estimate my time, including how much time I spent per project, per role. I am a graduate student with multiple RA-ships, one of which is a single, grant funded project, and the other of which involves multiple projects. I also have research projects ongoing with different professors. For my work, I need to track my time for accounting. For the other stuff, it's nice to know what I"m spending on things (and motivating to know when I've spent less time than usual dilly-dallying).

  ### 5. Time Tracking for Dummies

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard B. | Application Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2021

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

There is a lot to love about Manic Time. It was easy to use and did way more than I was expecting from it. The reporting was informative. The editing was awesome. Tagging and managing the time tracked is robust, yet simple

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

I was using it fairly early on so there were a lot of odd bugs. Sometimes it would get stuck tracking and not pause. The only way to pause or stop was to force quit. Otherwise, it was amazing!

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is great at taking the tracking out of time tracking. It just does 90% for you. The last 10% is tagging and validating. It really does an amazing job at showing how much time is wasted on mundane tasks or mindless browsing.
I handed in my time to a project manager. He asked how I knew I worked 3.28 hours on a specific task. "Manic Time" was my answer. 😁

I like that you do not have to keep track of starting or stopping the clock so that you can focus on work, while keeping track of computer and work usage.

  ### 13. Great Way to Track Time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2019

**What do you like best about ManicTime?**

I like that it tracks inactive time on the computer so that you can remember when you started working and when you stopped, and when you took breaks. Very easy to use, I don't have to remember to log in and the app does everything for me without me even doing anything except installing the program. It shows exactly what page and project you were working on and for how long and when.

**What do you dislike about ManicTime?**

Nothing except that it is scary to have your boss know exactly what you are doing at all times! It is very easy to use because I don't even have to remember to log in or anything. The only way I could think to make it better is if you could figure out how to create a "time budget" in manic time and track your real time against your budget. The only thing it can't track is when I am on my phone for work, off my computer, or on a remote computer (2nd computer).

**Recommendations to others considering ManicTime:**

Great product. Simple solution to a simple problem.

**What problems is ManicTime solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving the problem of realizing how much time goes to each project and where our professional time is going towards. It helps to know which projects are important, time consuming and so one. It also helps us track employees that are working remotely and working from home or even at the office so that we can work on time management.
