Transparency on investment during the sales phase, engagement management during the delivery phase, and overall business management of engagements. Most importantly, it provides a solid overview of future resource availability, which creates a strong basis for committing to delivery schedules (which in turn drive revenue) and for improving resource utilization by avoiding bench time. That said, this ties back to my earlier point about what we dislike: getting an accurate picture of future availability requires ongoing maintenance of active assignments, which requires too much manual effort. Having resource allocations, time actuals, project budgets, and billing rates all connected means we can build a true picture of workforce utilization and cost without stitching together data from multiple systems. The API is also a significant strength — it gives us the ability to build custom reporting and automation on top of the platform, which has been critical for our workforce planning workflows. We've been able to pull allocation data, time entries, and project financials programmatically and feed them into executive-level dashboards that Kantata's native reporting couldn't produce on its own. If you update a resource's rate, change an allocation, or modify a project setting, that change is final — there is no way to see what the value was before. For workforce planning and financial reporting, this is a significant limitation. Teams that need to track how plans evolved over time, reconcile actuals against an earlier forecast, or audit a change have no native path to do so. Several core workflows require heavy administrative support because the platform has limited automation, fragmented permissions, reporting constraints, and significant dependency on clean setup data. Kantata has not kept pace with AI advancements, and Huge is pulling data into self-designed interfaces that are more modern and user friendly than the Kantata UI. Reporting Suite lacks flexibility. Changing time frames often requires creating separate reports rather than adjusting a single view. Users also cannot save common filtered views, such as their own Practice or set of Projects. Reports are slow and cumbersome to use. Users often need to load a report, apply filters, and wait for it to reload, which reduces adoption. Historical trend reporting is limited. The current reporting suite does not make it easy to view how metrics change over time. The permissions model is limited and fragmented. Kantata has multiple permission models, and available controls are not granular enough for some common operational needs. The skills functionality is not advanced enough for our needs. I use Kantata primarily for logging hours. The timesheets are easy to use. For example, if a client’s name is “San Francisco Bakery” but the client name in Kantata is “SF\_Bak,” searching for “San Francisco” won’t bring up that client/project. I’m not sure whether there’s a way to link keywords or alternate names to projects to make them easier to search, but something like that would solve the problem. I like how involved Kantata Professional Services Automation is. It's a very in-depth software that has a lot of functionality and things that we can use. There are a lot of possibilities beyond what we're currently using it for, and I think that's the best part about it. I also really appreciate the time sheet tracking feature. It's very granular and item-based, allowing us to get into the details with notes. I know a lot of other software that are more drag and drop. This is a little bit more archaic in that you have to go in and put in your numbers, put in your words. With time tracking within a project I wish there were more capabilities of chaning to multiple roles for a user within a project. Also, I would like to have a more efficent billing feature/schedule. I like all of the innovation that they're doing. I'm really looking forward to the AI capabilities allowing me to quickly access things like dashboards. With the AI, a lot of my feedback was negative because it wasn't actually giving me the correct answer. Kantata's user interface is clean and easy to use compared to clunky and generally ugly tools I've used in the past. I have access in one place for all of the time tracking needs and project management needs. I primarily use kantata for timesheets and project health tracking. I have not experienced any downsides of working with Kantata functionality. However, I would be interested to learn more about possible integrations and the AI / Intelligence capabilities.
