"FileNet increases productivity and decreases storage space needed for our records across the Dept."

3.5/5

What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

We use FileNet Workplace XT and IBM Content Navigator, BPM, eForms and Content Collector. Our State IT Department has written many customizations for us so we can integrate our business applications with FileNet for a better customer experience. It’s a very powerful suite of products that we have used extensively across our Department. Security is powerful in FileNet and allows us to add all types of documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

It lacks some flexibility because it is deployed across multiple agencies across the State. New development is costly for us and our lack of resources at our State IT Department is a road block for us. The fact that they are not improving eForms is forcing us to move to another forms package with more costly and time consuming development. To migrate from Workplace XT to IBM Content Navigator forces us to make this move because eForms are not compatible with ICN. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:

It is a very good product for larger organizations but quite costly for smaller businesses. Many of our State’s small agencies cannot afford it. Be sure to obtain buy-in from management to enforce FileNet’s use. We have many users that are refusing to use it because it’s different and something new to learn. Without management support, that won’t change and your ROI will not be as great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

When drivers called our Driver’s License Division with questions about their record before the implementation of FileNet, most had to be called back so the licensing specialists could pull their paper file and review first. Sometimes the file wasn’t available because someone else was using it. Now they can pull up the documents and their record with a click of a button and answer their questions immediately. In other areas of the Department we’ve also seen a great improvement in customer service and the ability for users to take on increased workloads. The storage space we’ve saved by destroying the paper records has allowed us to hire needed staff and provide them an office to work without expanding our building. Our business application integration has helped our staff adopt FileNet easier with little or no training. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Review of a developer cum administrator"

3.5/5

What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

The feature of active content.

Simplified API.

Content (text) based retrieval from a file is very helpful.

Latest product version with reduced installation efforts compared to earlier versions.

Single sign on, Case managament feature, accessibility on mobile using ICN.

Document versioning, annotations is a great help. multiple users can simultaneously work on a prticular document by checking it out collaboratively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

complex configurations related to process engine.

Add on related to capture needs a in depth knowledge.

Slow and laggy web based administrative tool Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:

One of best products in the market for enterprise content management. Simple to use for end user if content navigator is used. Mobile based useability adds on to the features of the product. could be used on Android and Ios based phones and tablets. IBM provides applications for both platforms in their respective application stores.

FIleNet could be used to reduced paper based documentations to digital one. and These digitized documents would be active content as they can take part in workflows and events handlers could be used on events and actions performed on these documents.

A huge number of products are available which could be used as add ons for FileNet. they make life easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are automating business processes using workflows. Created some automated processes that uses active content to help complete the process.

We are using various add on products like ICC, datacap as ingestion sources for FileNet environment at our place.

"Long term user, implementor and designer"

5/5

What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

It's a industry standard and has been leading Gartner Magic Quadrants for a long time but aside from that, it's actually a very configurable and extensive technology with strong developer support and API's in both .NET and API's. It's robust, performant and exceptionally extensible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

Deploying it and upgrading it can be a complex activity and some of the extended production in the ECM portfolio of FileNet don't have DB2 support.

IBM also takes a while to support emerging trends, like 3rd party federation tools and Office 365 integration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:

Understand that whilst it's a very capable product with a lot of OOTB functionality, in many cases you will have to customize and extend the platform with customization to address specific needs.

Whilst in some cases, depending on the use case and requirement, it's almost plug and play, but for a corporate organization it really is a framework to develop and design a specific solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are replacing an ageing ECM platform from Open Text that is about 20 years old and customized beyond belief. We haven't gone live yet, but the ROI is based on efficiency gains from business productivity and reduced costs operationally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful ECM platform that requires experience professional to properly implement"

5/5

What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

Extremely flexible and extensible to build a solution on. Lots of options to integration with existing technologies. There are a lot of solution/products built on top of the P8 platform, such as Case Management, Records Management, etc. Since IBM owns just about all of the software needed to run the environment (OS, RMDB, J2EE server, etc), it is possible to make it true one-stop shop to get comprehensive and unified support, which is one of the advantage of going with IBM products that not many other vendors can match. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?

The product has steep learning curve for developers and administrators. The implementation cost can be expensive due to the need for highly skilled professionals. Very few FileNet customers can implement a good solution without outside help.

This is a product that can potentially do just about everything you might need for an ECM/BPM/ERM solution. But it also pretty much does nothing out of box until significant effort is put into implementing a customized solution. I don't think I ever seen anyone who can use a generic solution (often shown in demos or workshops) that is good enough for real-world use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:

I would recommend FileNet due to very strong support IBM has put behind the product, as well as strong community of developers to build a solution on the platform. The new Content Navigator & Case Manager products provide a lot of flexibility in customizing user interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

Manage contents and business process very well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
