## IBM FileNet Content Manager Reviews
  ### 1. Powerful and Secure ECM Platform for Large-Scale Enterprise Content Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohamed Ghazali M. | Business Automation Architect, Banking, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2025

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

IBM FileNet Content Manager offers a highly scalable and secure enterprise content management (ECM) solution. It integrates seamlessly with IBM BAW and other workflow engines, enabling organizations to automate complex document-centric processes. Its granular access controls, versioning, and retention policies make it ideal for regulated industries like banking and healthcare.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The user interface for non-technical users feels outdated compared to modern cloud-native ECM solutions. Initial setup and configuration can be complex and usually require expert assistance. Also, licensing and infrastructure costs can be high, especially for small and mid-sized businesses.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FileNet solves challenges related to unstructured content management, regulatory compliance, and workflow automation. It allows our organization to:

Securely store and retrieve millions of documents

Automate document review, approval, and retention processes

Ensure compliance with audit trails and access controls

Integrate document storage directly into our business workflows (IBM BAW)

  ### 19. Best ECM software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Atanu R. | Lead Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

I have used IBM CM8 content manager software along with IBM Content Navigator and integrated with IBM BPM. CM8 provides functionality to the users to customise the data model based on the business requirement, handles all data format, can handle huge number of files with ease, provides security based on custom defined attributes to protect sensitive data. Specifically the ICN is a very powerful document viewer and comes with the product and handles almost every document format.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Integrating with external products like IBM BPM is bit complex and had difficulty with certain document formats in the ICN viewer.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

From IBM BPM perspective, if you think of any external ECM then probably IBM ECM is the best product for integrating to IBM BPM with ease and seamless operation.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this product as a content store manly with IBM BPM product. For banking, insurance, healthcare clients to store various document types like email attachment, scanning system outputs etc. I have designed solutions where user can upload, modify, delete documents from IBM BPM.

  ### 20. FileNet Content Manager review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert S. | Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Robust features make this one of the best content management systems out there.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The price on this product is not very competitive with newer offering that are out there. If IBM is not careful, it will lose significant business.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

This is a great product that will allow you to take all of your enterprises documents and house them. It has a significant number of add-ons to enable Compliance (Enterprise Records), Workflow (BPM/ICM) and also works by integrating with Amazon S3 (or IBM Cloud Object Storage). I highly recommend this product.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We create one system of truth. A repository that will hold all of the document and their previous verrsions. Add that with the ability to use Case Manager, Business Process Manager, IBM Enterprise Records and the robust API set that allows for ease of integration.

  ### 21. A reliable end to end enterprise DMS and BPM system

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

I have used this software for past 10 years and implemented this solution to multiple clients who have stored documents from multiple business units like HR, Accounts payable, IT, Contracts, etc. I have designed applications to allow access to documents only to certain groups. I have designed multiple workflow applications for HR help desk. document approval process. FileNet provides both document management and business process management functionalities. FileNet provides robust out of the box tools for end users (IBM Content Navigator) and for admins(ACCE) to store and classify documents. It has a great set of connectors for data migration to and from Kofax, XML import/export, Emails, Sharepoint, scanners, file systems, etc. Perfectly works with Oracle, DB2, SQL, MSSQL databases, IBM WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss application servers, allows to configure data model and user permissions as detailed as you may need. It provides tools to design workflow with integration with core applications.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Collaborating documents with external users force you to send the document via email or requires the external users to have FileNet license. Other ECM products solve this problem easily like Box.com. Cloud deployment is not well practiced.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like I said earlier, I have used this software for past 10 years and implemented this solution to multiple clients who have stored documents from multiple business units like HR, Accounts payable, IT, Contracts, etc. I have designed applications to allow access to documents only to certain groups. I have designed multiple workflow applications for HR help desk. document approval process.

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Data content analyzation is awesome. It also has great dashboard creation tools as well.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Governor limits are the main issue as well as there is scope to make UI more simple.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

Do read documentation before using the product it will be useful. It is great product for content management

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were doing sentimental analysis of local and cloud folder in our organization using IBM ECM.

  ### 23. Best ECM product in the Market

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

FileNet Content manager and Content Navigator... the best and most reliable ECM products. The content navigator is easy to use/implement/integrate/customize product. Both products are easy to implement and integrate with other business processes. We also use Content Manager onDemand and Content collector as welll.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

We use Content collector for bulk uploading. It's good; but very limited in terms of features and functionality. We had write lot of custom scripts for simple things. Would like to see it getting more evolved. We also use Daeja viewer Virtual which is replacing Pro viewer. It's definitely helping us to remove JRE dependency but does not have all features which Pro has For example, providing detail image information etc.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use FileNet as our document repository. Users search and view documents in day to day business to take complete business processes. It has improved overall time to complete business process and decision making.

  ### 24. FileNet Content Manager - Best of the best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Consistant is the main word I would use to describe FileNet. It just works. The amount of content that is ingested for my business is quite massive and to have Content Manager ingesting and classifying and storing that content never fails.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The only part of Content Manager that is incredibly difficult is its licencing. It is impossible to understand and once you do they change the model again. That is why you need a business partner to help navigate through the nonsence. Additionally the interaction with other applications especially those from Microsoft and that reside in the cloud isnt the best, however, its on the horizon.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing individuals that are out in the field to be able to ingest and view content while on a tablet or ipad sitting in their car or at a coffee shop is invalueable.

  ### 25. The best there is in terms of ECM

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria Z. | Gerente de banca de inversiones, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The data collection can be customizable to the user's needs; can manage all data formats and although the flow of these is large does not lose the quality.

its ease of use is very appreciable for all our ornamentation and easily integrated into our system.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Nothing negative to say about this software, we are pleased with it.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

yes i would recommend it

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we have used it for the safe storage of the data and the analysis of these, of our clients.

  ### 26. IBM Content Management Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The ease of setup for getting started with IBM's Enterprise Content Management software was impressive. The options for pulling the enterprise solution in pieces into our existing enterprise infrastructure made evaluation much more feasible.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

The settings within IBM's Enterprise Content Management software are vast and it takes a lot of digging in the documentation to figure out even some simple changes. When you start pulling multiple components into your system you really have to start developing processes for your situation to keep the workflow organized.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

Consider taking a phased approach to implementation, particularly if you have a well established existing enterprise infrastructure.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are currently evaluating IBM's Enterprise Content Management software as a companion tool to our implementation of SalesForce.

  ### 27. Since the dawn of #ECM time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Platform's scalability. Everything is now an 'I' in front of it - 'I'BM Content Foundation, 'I'BM Case Foundation, 'I'BM Content Navigator, 'I'BM Enterprise Records, but the core engines, platforms dating all the way back to the early 2000s are still there, play well with each other and provide a composite platform for all things content.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

It would be nice to go back and deprecate some of the more ancient stuff and clean it up while you're there.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

IBM FileNet Content Manager is in pretty much every Fortune 500's data center, whether on-site, in the cloud or heading towards the latter as we speak. Pick an industry - finance, insurance, telecom, energy, government - if there's a lot of it, FileNet's there.

  ### 28. Enterprise content management

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

Implement more features and community help

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

solutions capture, store, activate, analyze and automate business content, providing new value from data that was previously unstructured and unavailable.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juozas V. | Team manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

Me and my team likes the direction goes to. It really looks that IBM lsiten to customers feedback, for example starting to support React instead of only DoJo framework.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

There are still some technologies that are still not yet supported, and WebSphere is somethign that is really heavy weight to use on local computers.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM FileNet Content Manager:**

It really depends on the need for the business demands.

**What problems is IBM FileNet Content Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We created case manager and document management (agreeement handling) solutions in our enterprise.

  ### 30. Rock Solid Content Management

**What do you like best about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**

FileNet Content Manager provides the services that the business needs, and stability that I need as an Operations Manager. Our organization has dozens of applications with thousands of users that connect to FileNet for content. It is critical that these applications have high availability and FileNet helps us deliver that.

**What do you dislike about IBM FileNet Content Manager?**
