**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

We use Handshake for Employers to register for career fairs, post job listings, and connect with students effectively. I appreciate that it streamlines the registration and hiring process, making our tasks more manageable. I also like that it provides an organized way to communicate our current hiring needs to colleges. The user interface is easy to use and navigate, which is definitely a plus. The initial setup was very easy, which made our integration with the platform smooth.

Logging in can be a bit tricky, along with adding new users who will be attending events.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

I really like how easy it is to connect with a large pool of qualified students from different schools. The platform makes it simple to promote roles, manage applicants, and reach the right audience. I’ve hired most of my interns through Handshake, so it’s definitely been a great tool for early-career recruiting.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

The main thing I’d like to see improved is the accuracy of the filters when building segments. Sometimes the graduation year, major, or location filters don’t match up perfectly, so my campaigns end up reaching students outside the intended group, but overall, it’s still a great resource.

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handshake makes it so much easier to connect with qualified students and recent grads across multiple schools without having to manage separate relationships with each career center. It streamlines the whole campus recruiting process. It’s helped me save a lot of time and has made hiring interns much more efficient and effective.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

Their market penetration into the pre-graduate and senior college talent at most universities is second-to-none. If you're trying to hire new grads, Handshake swooped in and allowed us to catch people 1-2 years earlier than they hit LinkedIn or Indeed. While the platform is visually straightforward, it also just works reliably without unnecessary complications or bloated features. Students seems to actually check messages and respond. Seeing 40% open rates and 3% response rates to cold messages as a recruiter in today's market is unheard of. 

What makes it work is their support team. I don't know if we just got the good reps or if it's normal, but I will say that their engagement and work on our behalf was far above any of our other vendor partners. They seemed determined to earn our repeat subscription by providing as much support as necessary to achieve ROI. That was a welcome change from others in the market just charging for their name.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

Price. They're not cheap by any stretch, but they are market competitive with their more established competitors. They're also very active in partnering with their customers to ensure they get the ROI on the price. They were speaking our company's language relative to our hiring goals specifically and asking intelligent ROI questions. The price is steep for an emerging platform, but they have penetration into a deep market to warrant it. 

I'm especially curious how the user interface on their student social feed continues to develop better.

It allows us to target talent prior to graduation more effectively than any other platform.

Handshake is great for our organization when looking for seasonal interns. The platform is well organized and easy to post on.

I think the sheer number of listings on Handshake can sometimes make it difficult for students to find our internship offer. That said, we still see results, and students remain interested in our internship opportunities.

Handshake for Employers is solving our problem of outreach and visibility to college students that we otherwise would not have. Being able to chose what specific area that works for the internship requirements is a huge plus - helping us streamline the process.

I think it is a great tool for reaching students where they are at.  We are not able to go to every career fair at all of the Universities, but we can still reach out to those great students that are all over the country.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

I wish it had some more integration with Microsoft products.

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bandwidth - we are not able to get to meet or see all great students, but with Handshake we feel like we are seeing more of those great candidates no matter where they go to school.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

I did like that they connected you directly with universities. Also, liked ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

Engaged in unethical business practices. Signed up for free employer account and recruited for a couple of jobs with what I believed to be a free membership. All job searches were closed by October 2024. No longer need or using for recruitment. When was using they were not the best at matching needs of employer. Hires did not come from handshake. 

Flash forward to February 2025. Suddenly our company is being charged over $100 week despite no longer using their services. Their justification was that they sent an email on January 31st stating that these changes to subscription charges would occur starting the first week of February  (next month). That is not even a 30 day notice and only one supposed email. And remember, we haven’t actively used them in over 3 months. 

When I go to deactivate/cancel our business account it is impossible. There is no customer service number and their email system is insufficient. I have been trying to deactivate our account for almost a week. 

Had to buy a merchant block on company credit card. They continue to try to charge $105 weekly and have not offered a full refund despite my complaints about their untrustworthy business practices.

As a K-12 school district, we faced unique challenges in utilizing Handshake effectively. However, the Handshake team provided exceptional support and guidance, helping us optimize the platform to meet our specific needs. Their valuable feedback and assistance ensured a smooth implementation process. We particularly appreciate Handshake's ability to connect us with students both locally and beyond California, expanding our reach significantly. While Handshake has been a valuable tool, there's room for improvement to better address the unique needs of K-12 districts. We've communicated our suggestions to the customer support team, who are actively exploring ways to enhance the platform for both K-12 and other employer users. We are trying to explore ways to have more than one user access chats/emails.  Handshake has provided an add-on tool to solve this need.

As a recruiter, I've found Handshake to be an excellent tool for reaching top talent, especially graduate talent in a more competitive market. The platform is intuitive, and the access to a wide array of candidates is invaluable. Not to mention, the support you'll recieve from your account reps is unmatched.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

The only thing I wish for is a premium membership option tailored to small and mid-sized companies. Such a feature would be perfect for those with less aggressive hiring targets who only need one representative to manage recruitment efforts. Overall, it's a great resource, and a more flexible membership plan would make it even better!

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handshake for Employers simplifies the recruitment process by providing direct access to a diverse pool of qualified candidates across numerous universities. It streamlines job postings, candidate searches, and communication, making it easier and faster to find the right fit for our roles. **What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

The ability to create campaigns and reach students directly and engage in productive conversations while building our brand.  This feature has also increase our engagement at in person and virtual career fairs.

Also and most importantly is our Handshake team, I can't say enough good things about them.  Shout out to Taylor, McKenzie and Bryan, they are the best to work with.  Not only do we meet monthly, but they are available whenever I have a question or need assistance.  They pro-actively monitor our account and activity so that when we meet they give us real non-generic suggestions based on our needs.  We have had this team almost since day one, which is huge, this allows us to build a great working relationship and not waste time explaining our needs and business to new staff monthly, as we have had to do on other sites.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

The only minor thing I have found is that we have to add labels to student profiles individually vs. a group at a time.

Again this is a very minor thing in the scheme of our recruiting efforts.  Overall we love Handshake and the results we have seen.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

We have access to students from schools that we never would have reached in the past, and in some cases, have been able to decrease our travel costs as we're able to do more recruiting online for certain positions. Some of our campus recruiters now use Handshake on a nearly daily basis, and it has been easy to implement and use for them.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

Handshake is still working on fleshing out it's platform in several areas (interview schedules, event management, etc), and while it isn't perfect, I appreciate that I am listened to whenever I have suggestions for improvements to the platform.

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been actively working to increase the diversity of our workforce, but figuring out how to attract diverse candidates to our job postings has been a challenge in the past. Handshake has allowed us to get our jobs in front of students from a more diverse array of backgrounds than we ever could with traditional on campus, career fair style recruiting efforts. In addition, we have several early talent programs which only recruits for one entry level position per location, and those locations are spread across the country. Going to on campus career fairs to recruit for those positions at multiple schools across the country was very resource intensive. Handshake has allowed us to significantly reduce our travel costs related to recruiting for these types of positions because we are able to recruit at schools close to the job location without stepping foot on campus, in most cases.

The Handshake for Employers campaign feature is definitely my favorite. I appreciate the ability to organize the schools we recruit from and connect with them regarding opportunities, internships, and early career positions. Additionally, we can precisely search for students based on their majors and interests, which has significantly refined our candidate pool.

I haven't run across any challenges. It is an easy to use tool and produces results.

It really helps us get directly to the students about intern positions and teach about our industry, and the universities and colleges use to communicate to employers. It pulls them both together making the employer experience easier and able to reach out to a lot of young talent in one place.

The ability to engage with students through multiple features is amazing! I appreciate that you can create campaigns for career fairs weeks to months advance. The new "feed" feature is a great way to establish your company brand and give individuals an inside look to the culture of the organization.

I wish the app was more user-friendly for recruiters. I want to be able to message students on the go and not have to open up a computer every time to respond.

Handshake is helping us connect to early talent and reach students outside of where we are based. The feature has allow us to recruit top quality talent even if we're not able to make it to the physical career fair.

The ability to hyper target students in Handshake is a marketer's dream. The open rates and engagement we receive on Handshake are the highest we have seen on any platform for connecting with our target audience. Handshake is the expected and preferred way our target hears about jobs so it's a perfect match for us to promote our opportunities.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

Our ATS is not  integrated with Handshake so every job we post has to be done manually and we cannot see a clean line through the recruitment funnel from attraction to hire. We can follow attraction to interest when a person leaves Handshake and clicks on to apply, then we can come to our ATS to track who came from Handshake as a source, but it's an imperfect science and more difficult to execute than I'd like. But even still, we know confidently we could not be as successful with our digital- first approach recruyiting students without Handshake so the imperfection here is worth the effort.

Handshake enables our digital-first talent attraction strategy. We are able to reach target talent regardless of their university who would be a great fit for our opportunities in ways that are simple and effective. Handshake really democratizes opportunity for students across the country, as we do not have to connect with every individual campus one by one to attract their students.

Handshake is incredibly valuable- if not only for the data and insights provided about the emerging talent population and our company-specific engagement/sourcing efforts/attractiveness, it has also proven to be a strategic partnership and collaboration. The Handshake reps that support us are like extended team members and we have consulted them on a variety of ideas relating to Early Career recruitment and more. 
To name a few examples: We have evolved our DEI strategy based on Handshake data, updated our target university list, and started hosting virtual info sessions on the Handshake platform that attract 1,000+ candidates.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

Not every univeristy uses Handshake and it is frustrating to have to engage with multiple platforms. However, the vast majority do use Handshake.

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our Early Career team has been cut by 75% in the last two years due to layoffs but our workload has remained. Handshake has allowed us to drive efficiencies and take a lot of the sourcing work out of the recruiter role, focusing instead of relationship building with qualified candidates. We have overhauled our strategy, starting attracting diverse candidates earlier in the process, and pitched two new ideas to our C-suite executives because of Handshake.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

Handshake Premium for Employers is the premier tool in the campus talent attraction marketplace to get your internships and full-time job opportunities  in front of millions of college students. 

As a university recruiter, I have used Handshake for nearly 7 years with multiple employers. I would not want to do university recruiting without it, as it allows my team to work smarter, not harder. Connecting with the right kinds of candidates early and often is the name of the game to convert prospects into applicants. My Handshake Premium license allows me to search for candidates, create targeted outreach messaging campaigns, register for school-hosted events like career fairs, create my own virtual info session events, manage on-campus interview schedules, chat with students 1:1, and so much more.

The Handshake team does a phenomenal job of listening to it's customers (both employers and universities) as well as getting student user feedback. Their team is constantly updating the platform to enhance the user experience and help students find jobs. I love that their mission is to "democratize access to opportunity" and can confidently say that I have hired hundreds of candidates because of the Handshake platform.

**What do you dislike about Handshake for Employers?**

The only downside I've found is the steep cost for employers to use Handshake Pemium features. In my opinion though, Handshake Premium allows employers' university recruiting teams to have a consistent funnel of highly-qualified candidates and is well worth the cost, espeically for larger employers hiring hundreds of interns and entry-level professionals annually. 

Handshake has really spoiled me though, as some of the schools I recruit at are not yet using Handshake, doubling my efforts to post jobs and engage with those schools. I appreciate being able to reach so many students at so many schools all at once or target my communciations to candidates at specific schools and other "job board" platforms aren't nearly as user-friendly or widely used.

**What problems is Handshake for Employers solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handshake Premium allows me to send targeted messaging campaigns to prospects and candidates that meet the qualifications my employer is seeking for job and internship openings. They make it easy to customize messages, draft templates, send follow ups before and after events, and more. What used to take hours of manual data entry is made easy with event QR Code Check-Ins through the Handshake Events tool. Now I can easily review the candidates I talked to at an event, record notes as I evaluate candidates in real time, and follow up with candidates quickly to secure top talent before other employers beat me to it.

**What do you like best about Handshake for Employers?**

Handshake is obviously the #1 platform for upcoming and recent college graduates. There are thousands of engaged job seekers on the platform and all easily accessible. I work with Buddy Genika, Cody Nelson and Tyler Handley from the Handshake team and have been in contact with them since early 2023. They deliver excellent customer service and are always quick to assist with any need my company may have. Highly recommend them!

I've seen so many great improvements in the three years I have been involved with the platform, I don't really have any complains. I guess maybe having a good mobile app interface for employers could be beneficial, but im sure it's something that is already in the works.

Handshake has been great with helping us propertly market our Brand to students and recent grads.

We most recently moved to the premium access version of Handshake and we immediately found an increase in successful hires coming from the platform.  The ability to create segments and campaigns and use targeted recruitment functionality has been invaluable.  Our partnership with our Customer Success Manager has been great and we look forward to future recruitment using this tool.

I like alot! Being able to target candidates that meet our criteria outside of our region has been wonderful. Also running a campaign to students about what we are doing at Gentex and to come meet us while onsite has been great.

I would suggest assigning one person on your team to own the platform and be an adovate to others. Also it is helpful to have a clear purpose on how leadership wants to use the tool and how it will work best to support your unqiue organization.

We are reaching a variety of candidates that has increased our DEI. Our company is getting brand awareness across the country attracting top talent. We have getting a large volume of interesed candidate to coinsider.

I love how easily we can create highly targeted segments using specific filters like major, location, year in school, and more! The platform also makes it incredibly simple to communicate with potential applicants, allowing for smooth back-and-forth messaging. Plus, posting jobs is straightforward and hassle-free.

Mastering all the intricate features takes time and practice, and experimenting with them is often the best way to learn and discover how everything works.

We hire a significant number of staff in California for part-time coaching and education roles. These positions are excellent opportunities for students and recent alumni, and Handshake makes it easy for us to connect with this talent pool.

The segmentation tool for messaging students is extremely helpful. You can reach out to a diverse group of students that meet your criteria upfront, resulting in more applicants that are highly qualified.

The job posting process can be cumbersome especially if you have a large list of schools you are posting to or if any schools decline your post. If a school declines your post they do not have to cite why, and it can be time-consuming to find the school's comments and respond.

Using Handshake premium allows us to message students who fit our needs. We utilize the program to help engage students before career fairs and to invite them to virtual events. It's been a wonderful resource for us and increased our speed to hire.

The user interface isn't the prettiest - it can be clunky to use, and some information is duplicated in different spaces. Onboarding new users to the platform is not intuitive. There are also (rarely) glitches that have to be addressed from a developer standpoint which can take some time to update.

We work in the Education space and we are looking for credentialed teachers.  Unfortunately, Handshake does not have the option to look exclusively for teachers with credentials or whose in the process.  They are working on it!

It's very simple and intuitive to use! I set everything up in minutes and had no problem using it. The UI is very clean and simple as well, that even my 85 year old grandma can probably understand.

The main issue is that you don't receive any email notification whenever someone schedules a meeting with you on Handshake. You have to manually check the calendar to see if anyone has booked a session with you, which can be cumbersome. It would be nice to have a notification system to your email.

It allows us to connect with students all over the country and conduct virtual career fairs and interviews. We're able to reach a wider audience and simplify the recruiting process instead of having to connect 1 by 1 with each attendee.

I like that it's easy to use for reaching out to local students seeking internships and employment opportunities. It's great that you can use it to post available positions, directly reach out to interested students, and connect with area colleges all on the same platform.

The one downside to the platform is that there is a limit on how many messages you can send per recruiting season. However, there are no limits on messaging people with who you've already been in contact. It's only ever a problem when you want to directly reach out to students.

I would recommend it to those looking to hire interns. I wouldn't necessarily dicourage using it for regular job postings, but our organization has had more luck using Handshake for intern recruitment.
