Sometimes, images upload very slowly in the document review pane. You can really feel the difference when working on a matter that does not have their documents uploaded to Everlaw versus one that does. One of the most beneficial tool is the document production process. Everlaw allows you to send your documents in Native format to have them reviewed for confidential information, redacted, organized, Bates Numbered and then produced to opposing counsel. This is done efficiently and accurately which allows us to focus on the substantive matters of a case. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** At this point, I cannot think of anything about Everlaw that I do not like. It is like having a team of individuals working on the case efficiently and accurately and saves us quite a bit of manpower and time. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everlaw is allowing us to focus on the client's needs, the substantive issues and getting prepared for depositions, hearings and trial without the need for additional staff, saving us overhead. ### 9. There is actually a way to edit an active search. After running your search, you're taken to the search results table, a list of all of the documents returned by the search. From the search results table, in the navigation bar near the upper right, there's a a 'Refine' icon, a magnifying glass with the word ""Refine"" underneath it. If you click this, you'll be taken back to the search builder and shown the search criteria you'd used for that search in the first place. This is a quick an easy way to look through the results of a search, then quickly go back to make any edits to further refine it. We hope that helps! It can speed up review/production times by having an efficient and rocket-fast processing schema within. Productions are just as fast as ingestion/processing, which is a huge plus. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** Sometimes creating searches can be cumbersome, and you don't always feel 100% that the data is properly setup. It should allow you to simplify your searches versus making very complex queries. Ingestion of .zip files creates a 'value' in the workspace that you need to omit, which can be very problematic. Using the metadata overlay in production to ensure the coding migrates is a huge mistake. It should automatically link to the source document information for all metadata and coding. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** It gives our attorneys a new way to perform their client document reviews. Searches can certainly have many moving parts. While building a search, there's a search preview panel at the bottom of the screen showing how many documents the current search parameters will return, as well as an adjustable sample size of example documents that will be returned by your search. This is a great way to QC your searches while you're building them. 2. If you're referring to the presence of the container files, we do include these as their own unique documents in Everlaw, as they technically represent the most inclusive contents of a folder of the files that get uploaded. The folder that contains the files is technically a file itself. Its presence in an Everlaw database does not contribute to billable size. And downloading the native container file from Everlaw effectively downloads all of its contents too. So its core purpose is really to serve as a point of reference. 3. When running productions in Everlaw, there is an option to migrate any codes and other review work on source documents onto the produced versions. You can read more about it using the link below, but we're also curious to understand the circumstances regarding the usage of an overlay to accomplish this. No Auto Update / Refresh for Search Results in the Result Table View. (2) I am not sure if I dislike this, but understanding the permissions system across the Administrator Roles Organization, Database, Project is not easy. (3) When starting with Everlaw and getting the first Introduction Sessions, it is unclear if Projects are like Matters. Working in the legal field, in an area of law that is all about documentary production, we have struggled to find a platform for e-discovery for years. Everlaw has surpassed all of our requirements. It is as easy as clicking a button to see what your options are. Not a lot of training was required to use this platform. The customer service success team that was implemented for our firm is not like anything I have experienced with any other platform in the past. The accessibility to have one person to turn to in need has assisted with our impementation. The access to user guides online as well as live support is convenient when it is needed. The ability to navigate through thousands of documents without a hassle is ridiculously easy. I keep waiting to run into a problem with the platform as we have with others in the past, and it hasn't happened. Everlaw has brought ease to managing and reviewing thousands of documents. In my previous review, I had commented on the metadata that was populating with a PDF upload, but Everlaw has managed to make that even more convenient. It now reads the top of an email PDF in order to determine the To, From and Subject fields, which is already more than any other platform can offer. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** I have not come across anything that I dislike about Everlaw at the moment. **Recommendations to others considering Everlaw:** Give it a try. You will not be disappointed. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a case that is a shareholder oppression claim over several family-owned businesses. The action has been ongoing since 2010. There have been several counsel on the file in the past, the number of documents being exchanged in the matter are in the thousands. The Court location for this action is a two hour flight north or ten hour drive. We recently had to attend at examinations for discovery. By utilizing Everlaw, we have uploaded all documentary evidence into the system. We have been able to include the pleadings, motion materials and transcripts from cross-examinations. The number of affidavits previously sworn in the matter are numerous. Using Everlaw, we were able to create a timeline of the affidavits and we were able to have multiple clerks working on the timeline at once using the share option so that work wasn't being duplicated. The fact that counsel did not have to attend the discovery with over ten bankers boxes of physical documents, given the distance, was extremely beneficial. We brought a monitor, tablet and notepaper to the examination and our first electronic discovery was seamless. I still cannot believe it happened and we will now be conducting all discoveries and trials in this format. Thank you Everlaw!!! ### 27. For instance, downloading a document just creates the PDF, with the Bates number as a filename--boom. I'm not flooded with 1,000 options; the default is what I want 99% of the time. Searches are intuitive. The "Binders" function took a little while to figure out, but now that I understand them, I'd never do it any other way. The option to customize the coding layout and results view is hugely helpful, and the user interface is intuitive enough that I rarely need to involve my eDiscovery colleagues. Messaging is also smooth and intuitive. I realized today that when looking through a long document, if you look at the "text" view to search for a particular word and then toggle back to the "image" view, it jumps to the page of the TIFF where that text appears! Game-changer. When viewing a particular document, the sidebar permitting a quick view of family members and thread duplicates is fast and easy to use. The database almost never freezes or crashes. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** (1) When changing the columns I want to see in the results view, the dropdown should initially display columns that are already selected, so I can quickly unselect them without having to search for each one. (2) It would be helpful to have a box for typing in a specific Bates number, both on the search page and the results view. Approximately 50% of the time I open the database, it is to pull up a particular document by Bates number. It would be helpful to go straight to a box like that without having to open the search protocol. (3) The metadata view when you have a particular document open is confusing; it seems to show only some of the metadata that is available. I know you can toggle this, but it is not clear. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** I spent a good chunk of every day running targeted searches in an enormous database, and I need to slice and dice the data multiple different ways to find what I'm looking for. I also like the help features -- and the fact that I can get quick and easy video training on topics I need (and don't have to watch half an hour of stuff I will never remember and probably won't need). I love the visualization feature -- it allows you to get a quick overview look at any group of documents (typically each production an opponent makes). There was no old school way to do that! The batch coding feature is a great, easy to use feature as well. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** I am still struggling to keep email families of documents together. However, the program is a little more expensive than others. Also, it depends on what you want to use it for. Data Analytics, Storybuilder (for depositions), everything has it's purpose which probably justifies the price tag. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Providing another way to look at data across many other tools. Storybuilder for depositions, data analytics and clustering, are very accurate and allow you to see the relationships between custodian and review them in a smaller subset. ### 46. Additionally, I love the interface of Everlaw - very user friendly. Also, that you have to share new layouts with admin users. Moving elements around to the exact places that suit your particular workflow(s) speeds up the review process immensely. The ability to have custom macros/batch coding buttons for commonly-used permutations saves a ton of time on longer reviews. The automatic save upon advancing to the next document is also nice. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** The only things that I have found to dislike about Everlaw are that 1) for some reason, not every column within the document list can be filtered (sort only, why?), and 2) the document list often doesn't populate data in the fields you add. For instance, I wanted to have a list of the privilege string hits populate for each document without having to click into it, but the dashboard / document display would never populate with those terms. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everlaw is much faster than the big-R competition, and is a million times more customizable. If Project Managers will trust their reviewers to customize the panels to their liking, there is a massive time savings to be had. **Official Response from Miguel Allende:** > Thank you for providing feedback on the limitations of Filtering the Results table. I understand that certain columns cannot be sorted due to their content, and that columns with sortable data contain values that are easily put in ascending and descending order such as dates, times, number of pages, Bates numbers, etc. Fields such as Notes contain arbitrary values that cannot be easily sorted, which limits the functionality of the results table. I recommend every Everlaw user take the time to read through new product releases and spend time every month looking at training modules. There are constantly new releases and updates, and you will definitely find something new to improve your workflow. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Getting through huge datasets is already daunting. Taking steps to learn about new technology and processes, like technology-assisted review, can be just as daunting. But Everlaw not only provides these powerful tools--specifically predictive coding and clustering--it provides the training and support necessary to utilize them efficiently and to prove (or defend) the accuracy of such time-saving technology.
