# Can you reconfigure the platform so users and establish families independent of the order in which the documents were uploaded?

Hi Jeremy, 

Thank you for reaching out with your question. Everlaw establishes document families based on the relationship between documents, which is indicated in the metadata. When organizing the documents within a group, the parent document will always be identified as the document with the lowest Bates or control number.
