## dotCMS Reviews
  ### 1. Great service for flexible websites

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer W. | Digital SEO Marketing Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2024

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

dotCMS is super powerful with the ability to create dynamic content easily. For those inputting content, it is super easy. It really allows you to access various pieces of information in an easy way.

Their support is exceptional as well. Whenever there is a problem, they get back to you very quickly.

After reviewing some other platforms, dotCMS is also priced very well too, especially for all the features it offers.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

You need a certain level of coding knowledge to be able to be a good administrator. I need more help than I would like. This platform is great for a whole team, web developer and SEO and strategic marketer. You really need ALL those skills for this, and I only have two out of three.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

dotCMS is our CMS for our primary website. We have a lot of information and dotCMS allows us to display it in ways that are easy and helpful to our website visitors. They also offer Professional Services which is solving the problem of our lack of coding knowledge. While I would like to be able to do this on my own, it is not feasible at this time so this service is invaluable.

**Official Response from Melissa Petrie:**

> Thank you for your feedback on dotCMS. We're delighted that you find it powerful and user-friendly for managing your content.

We understand that the need for coding knowledge can be challenging. Your input is valuable as we strive to make dotCMS more accessible.

  ### 2. All in one package for online content management from a customer-focused team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2022

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

dotCMS offers a complete and easy-to-use content management platform with great support, an intuitive permissioning system, and impressive scalability - allowing everyone from novices to seasoned developers to contribute to an online presence. Their dedicated upgrade project manager ensures minimal service disruptions and their Evergreen release model provide seamless maintenance and peace of mind ahead of larger product upgrades.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

Earlier versions of their product had a steeper learning curve for new content editors, but the more mature platform is easier to use and more flexible - and continues to improve with additional development.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

dotCMS's development cycle keeps the platform innovative and fresh - safely adding new features to keep websites robust while addressing the shifting trends in development and design. dotCMS Support works quickly and efficiently to address any issues related to hosting our enterprise website. The new partnerships to provide a Content Delivery Network (CDN) adds extra security to the hosted environment against DDoS attacks.

  ### 3. Excellent Support Team and an Easy-to-Start Content Model Approach

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2026

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

The support team has been excellent, and the content model approach makes it easy to get started.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

dotCMS administration interface does not support caching of data relationships, which results in slow page load times (>10 seconds to open a page editing form). The system also does not support the publishing of more than 500 pages at a time, which means that mass changes have to be batched. dotCMS will only maintain 20 past versions of a page, which is not sufficient for our requirements.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cost effective product for offering a site and traditional search.

  ### 8. Hi-powered hydra

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

There are always at least 3 ways to accomplish what you want. There's just so much tooling and options. If one solution doesn't work for you, you can try something different. It's built-in tools, the API, $import and $json tools give you every web possibilty.
It's also been rock solid and backwards compatible.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

It's very large and powerful. I could see some analysis paralysis when confronted with the possibilities. It's idiosyncratic. The documentation is sparse. If you are not going to read the javadocs, you may have some difficulties. You can use it purely as a wysiwyg but you'd be overpaying. You need at least one developer.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Extremely good at multi-tenant architecture. We want to run 1000+ sites on one install that share widgets and functionality.

  ### 9. Team is delighted with the potential of the CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Gambling & Casinos | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

Te fact it's fully open source allows us to tailor every but to our needs.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

We are currently working on improving the support as we have a very Dynamic business with a growing client base. Site stability is key and is being improved.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the presentation of various features on site, plus hosting Json configs also shapes the site, CSS files also hosted there. The benefit sits in the capability of being able to manage each site individually.

  ### 10. corporate primary user review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2024

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

The page editor is easy to use. Also quite esy to create new components, manage content, and schedule publishing.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

Issues with the publishing filters. The options are confusing and lead to pushing more than intended. Overall the high amount of customization available to us made initial setup complicated.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing non developers to create content and schedule publishing on off hours.

**Official Response from Melissa Petrie:**

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2024

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

The platform is easier and more scalabale than CMS tools we've used previously. Being on the LTS version and having our maintenance done for us is great.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

It's genuinely convenient to be feasible to deal with our information and fixed site links across the board area. It is the whole place of a CMS. **Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2022

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

Usability in the back-end content management interface, considering simple connections and content looking and altering. Generally, distributing ideas is great and simple to get content between conditions. I like how adaptable it is and the way that it permits me to make custom substance types. That's what I feel, given sufficient preparation, a completely self-serve site is conceivable, while as yet taking into consideration custom layouts and designs.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

A few difficulties in regards to "system programming" ideas, where customization is expected to take advantage of the POTENTIAL of this product. Customization implies difficulty however and makes supporting the framework testing. The product is AMAZINGLY adjustable (that is great!), however which makes the 'too' adaptable situation.

**Recommendations to others considering dotCMS:**

Ensure you have a strong arrangement concerning "out of the case" versus framework versus customization. Bound to suggest dotCMS for a site beginning starting from the earliest stage instead of a laid-out site and encounters that need to continue. Assemble given the dotCMS capacities and afterward tweak on top of that for explicit requirements.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have to maintain a lot of different support sites at the same time and adapt content for each of them appropriately. dotCMS offers some elaborate yet accessible tools to address that.

  ### 49. dotCMS is open a tool made for everyone

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sébastien C. | Front End Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2021

**What do you like best about dotCMS?**

At first, the system is overwhelming for someone that has never worked with a CMS before. The System may not fit all of our needs, but it still allows us to build our features on top of it, which is fantastic.

**What do you dislike about dotCMS?**

We are a business developing landing pages for advertisement. I feel as though dotCMS has a Designer Template for no-code implementation, it doesn't quite work with multiple sites sharing the code. We have to duplicate a site for a template to work in another host.

**Recommendations to others considering dotCMS:**

Whether you have a blog, a shopping website, or multiple sites, dotCMS will provide you with everything you need to manage your content the way you want. You have full power. I'm not joking. I would recommend that you watch their webinars to have a good introduction as to what is it you can do with their application, and most importantly, that you test it our yourself. They have a demo website to log in to the back-end and see how they did it. I learned a ton of new tricks just by looking around at how things are set up.

**What problems is dotCMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to control our content and our static landing pages all in the same place is very convenient. That is the sole purpose of a CMS, after all. I cannot compare it with other CMS since it is my first experience with one. I think dotCMS is suitable for developers, which is excellent, but I also know that content integrators have a more accessible experience when compared to having no CMS.
