Checkmk is now also highly automatable via REST API and Ansible. With the help of Ansible code, we are able to fully automate the deployment of new remote sites, and we perform an unattended migration from CentOS 7 to RHEL 9. The bit i like most about Checkmk is that it can basically connect to anything from a monitoring point of view. There are numerous agents available which can be setup easy enough. If all that fails you can use what they call Local Checks. These are checks that can simply analyze basic text or numbers at stated intervals. We need to consider more elements for the end user that is consuming the data within Checkmk. While Checkmk is great at getting data, Data Insights are limited enough. You can have dashboard for sure but customizing Graphs is hard and requires a lot of programming knowledge. I find the features like trending basic enough. The next level is to bring more Data Analytics capability to it to try and answer the question my end users are asking. Checkmk excels in its comprehensive monitoring capabilities, covering everything from network devices and servers to applications and cloud services. The auto-discovery feature is a huge time-saver, and the customizable dashboards provide excellent visibility into our infrastructure's health. The scalability is also a major plus, allowing us to monitor a growing environment effectively. The check plugin ecosystem is vast, meaning we can monitor almost anything we need to. While incredibly powerful, the initial learning curve for some of the more advanced configuration options and custom check development can be a bit steep for new users. Sometimes, troubleshooting very specific or niche monitoring issues can require a deeper dive into the documentation or community forums. The UI, while functional, could benefit from some modernization in certain areas to improve the overall user experience, especially for less technical users. We have been using Checkmk for many years.

The installation itself for both the server and the agent is very simple and quick.

The default limit values set are perfectly adequate for a standard environment.

It is impossible to imagine our everyday life without Checkmk. My first step in the morning is to check the dashboard to see if there are any problems or faults.

The community is also very helpful and you can already find posts and solutions to most problems in forums.

There is only one negative point regarding Checkmk.

So far there is no support for ARM CPUs. However, it has already been announced that this is already being worked on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Ease of use in setup. It was probably easier for me after years of command line administration. The product is very versatile. I was blown away at being able to make my own custom dashboards. Implementation was pretty easy and again I was familiar with cli installation. I have been leaning toward Debian lately and it runs on an old server just fine. There are still areas that need worked on. The email integration is a little awkward since you have to go command line Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There's no Brazilian Portuguese support yet.

It's an easy solution to install and then to maintain.

Configuration is all in the UI which make very easy to setup.

If you can't find the plugin you want, just write it as it's quite simple with python and the doc.

There is a strong community both on the forums and the open source code side. If you decide to go with the paid edition, it's not expensive as the competitors.

Support is quick and provides hot fixes if needed.

When you go into the solution for the first time you have to adapt to the rules logic which can be hard at times.

Also with upgrades you sometimes have to redo what you did because a new better way of things got released.
