BrightIdea has been essential in making our Virtual Think Tank experience more user-friendly; drawing a bigger audience and truly extending engagement. **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** I do wish, with every fiber of my being, that BrightIdea offered better reporting options. I appreciate the graphics and the downloading of the data but I wish it could assist with organizing the data. I plan to work with my BrightIdea rep on the financial reporting benefits and will figure out better ways to manually enhance our data. **What problems is Brightidea Innovation Management solving and how is that benefiting you?** BrightIdea is helping our internal Virtual Think Tank program. We needed a place to submit think tank ideas and for us to assign them to team members to work on. Too many ideas were coming in and Excel was far from useful for making things user-friendly. I work with Justin Gonzalez and he is very helpful and prompt in meeting with me to help me with the platform when I need it. Platform is very easy and intuitive for users to figure out. Very nice that you can build in a lot of tools (like google translate). **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** Platform can be very buggy, slow and a lot of interface is outdated. Setting up a page is an absolute nightmare, especially if you have a lot of pictures. Very, VERY time consuming to setup. (Why dragging and dropping in photos is not standard is a mystery to me.) Also, it can be a quite complicated platform. Though this might be ideal for companies using this platform for more complicated processes, for our ideation process, it is often overkill, and it is unnecessarily complex for those of us needing a more simple setup. **What problems is Brightidea Innovation Management solving and how is that benefiting you?** Platform is great for internal idea generation. The pre-made templates are easy to work with. It is a good way for people without programming experience to get user-friendly sites up and running relatively quickly. **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** We have had MANY issues with importing users. There is no rollback option for a database. It is extremely easy with the current import system to alter our whole user base, sometimes with disastrous consequences. I estimatee I have spent at least 10 hours fixing mistakes after data imports. Also, there is a lack of functional reporting features for analytics. Often, I would have to create custom python scripts to extract the data I wanted (or Brightidea support would do it for me). I know this does not affect everyone, but for those with a technical background, the backend is extremely frustrating, to the point where I've dissuaded others from using certain features because of the manual labor involved with getting reporting data. **What problems is Brightidea Innovation Management solving and how is that benefiting you?** I mainly use Brightidea for running hackathons. The project submission and voting features have saved a lot of development time. The support with any small technical faults has been fantastic and every issue gets addressed promptly through their support system. It is a bit of a learning curve for admin users initially, however, once you dedicate spending time using it you do feel like there are no obstacles to what you want to achieve. I'm also excited to learn more about their latest whiteboard feature and it's great that they are constantly looking to improve their software with useful updates. In terms of the consulting partnership, we used a few consultants but ended up with a fantastic consultant Veronika and we greatly appreciated Brightidea being flexible and working with us to ensure we got quality advice. After training, we've been able to set up multiple challenges and add content. Users are able to visit their "innovation hub" if numerous challenges are running simultaneously or our company can provide a direct link to a specific challenge. The app has also been useful for employees that work in the field or travel a lot. Ease of use is a big plus. 2) The customer service is unparallel. The Brightidea email support is super quick and helpful. The success managers meet with you every other week and provide insights on planned upgrades, resources and talk through what you have going on. They are so helpful and always just an email or call away. Shout out to Fran (she's the best!)! **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** I have no dislikes. Brightidea has a place for customers to suggest changes or new ideas for the platform and they are always making improvements. One of our suggestions was more dashboard metrics that can be shared outside of those with admin rights. If you have a challenge sponsor, having a way for them to see the dashboard metrics on the site would be helpful. The metrics can be exported to a static report though. Overall, no complaints. We moved into BrightIdea to have better transparency of the demand tracking as well as collaborate to populate benefit numbers. Submitting hack projects is simple, and the customizable site makes creating each event is straight forward. **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** It pays to know HTML when you want to fully reconfigure the site, but widget editor is incredibly helpful. **What problems is Brightidea Innovation Management solving and how is that benefiting you?** Hacking is a huge part of our R&D culture. The site allows for a collaborative space that provides opportunities for problem solving, sharing, and some friendly competition. ### 50. Not only is the interface clean and built for someone with little to no coding background, but there are numerous features that can be turned on or off with a single click, which helps to accommodate the range of potential crowdsourcing or social innovation initiatives that a large organization like Merck might want to run. The tool makes it very easy to send out mass emails to the reviewers in the flow, rather than doing the work and then getting distracted with other tasks when you are trying to ask for the next steps. In addition, the single page per submission is immensely helpful for knowledge management and social engagement. All relevant parties can connect to the idea, creating a thread of potential users which is so much better than following email threads. **What do you dislike about Brightidea Innovation Management?** What I find missing is a very detailed representation of the typical timeline in a playbook for each initiative. For example, use this initiative to run a shark tank competition. 2 months before you need to identify a sponsor. 1 week before you send this type of email. 2 days in post on the blog, etc. Having this as part of each of the standard playbooks would be very valuable. **Recommendations to others considering Brightidea Innovation Management:** Consider this software if you are looking for a way to capture ideas from all levels of the organization. **What problems is Brightidea Innovation Management solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've used the tool for a range of crowdsourcing efforts, from choosing a name for a new development facility, to administering awards across a global organization of >10,000 people, to a submission portal for innovative ideas. We've seen >50% of the organization participate in a recent awards process, with >600% more submissions then the previous process. People are engaging with the submissions, getting into upvoting competitions and sending links around for all to see. This has increased demand for new initiatives at the local level, with my personal creation of 20 separate sites in 2019 alone.
