What I like most about Tableau is how easy it makes my day-to-day data analysis. I can quickly create dashboards and charts without spending too much time on coding. I like Tableau's rich visualization capability and modularized KPI management. It saves a lot of time in maintaining or upgrading each KPI version, and its visualization out of the box is good compared to our older solution. Tableau is also a established platform, great for internal analytics with a lot of visualizations. We don't have to program our own visualization layer, which is a huge time saver. Just by changing one line in a Tableau report, we avoid repeated manual KPI updates, making it much easier to manage metrics and reducing the chance of errors. There are a few things that didn't work out with Tableau for us. First, the customizability was a big issue. It was really hard to make it fit into our existing design library, such as just changing the font or color to match our styles. If we wanted to add anything like a pop-up window or a drawer, it didn't support these features easily, which made us spend a lot of time figuring out workarounds. Performance was another major problem. We expected fast report rendering times since we're dealing with a large employee experience platform and tons of data, but using Tableau with live data took at least 30 seconds for a report to render, which is far too long. The lack of lazy loading resulted in poor experiences for our clients, often leading to complaints about response times. Version control and compatibility with other platforms were also challenging. Each client might have different report versions and metrics, and Tableau didn't make it easy to manage these various versions. Permission control was tough too, as some clients wanted to see specific cards or rows programmatically, which was difficult to implement. I love how easy Tableau is to use and appreciate its extensive features and functionalities for dealing with unorganized and abstract data. It's very useful how it shapes something from no SQL tables. I like how the final dashboards are very interactive, with built-in filters and drill-downs, which makes it easier to handle large-scale data. The visualizations are really easy to customize, and sharing metrics with stakeholders is a breeze. I find calculated fields, parameters, filters, and dashboard actions particularly useful, especially when the raw data doesn't directly contain the metrics I need. Tableau Prep is also very helpful when combining data before visualization. I really enjoy the drill-down functionality that lets me move from high-level KPIs to underlying details to ensure we deliver KPIs on time and keep stakeholders satisfied. Additionally, the setup process for basic database connection was pretty easy for us, which was nice. Sometimes performance can be an issue when dashboards handle very large datasets or have too many calculations. We have a large dataset for attendance data, and it takes a lot of time to load the dashboard. Implementing a dynamic caching layer, like Dynamo DB or Aurora Postgres, would help. Additionally, better automatic optimizations for large data sets, clearer performance diagnostics, and knowing exactly which tables are causing slowdowns would be beneficial. Specifically, if I have many tables and only a few are affecting Tableau's performance, it would be great to easily identify them to optimize these parts effectively. The best part I liked about Tableau is I can connect to almost any data source and without any code I can quickly build powerful visualizations.
