## About PortalGuard
PortalGuard is a single, unified Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform designed to help organizations streamline their security processes while enhancing user experience. This comprehensive solution addresses various business initiatives, including multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and self-service password reset. By integrating these functionalities, PortalGuard enables organizations to manage user identities and access rights efficiently, ensuring that sensitive information remains secure while providing seamless access to authorized users. Targeted at businesses of all sizes, PortalGuard is particularly beneficial for organizations that prioritize security and user convenience. Its user-friendly interface and robust features make it suitable for industries such as healthcare, finance, education, and government, where data protection and regulatory compliance are critical. The platform caters to a diverse audience, from IT administrators managing user access to end-users seeking a hassle-free login experience. By addressing the specific needs of these groups, PortalGuard fosters a secure environment that enhances productivity and reduces the risk of unauthorized access. One of the standout features of PortalGuard is its support for biometric authentication. By allowing users to log in using unique biological traits such as fingerprints, palm prints, or facial recognition, the platform not only enhances security but also simplifies the authentication process. This approach eliminates the need for complex passwords, thereby reducing the likelihood of password-related security breaches, including phishing attacks. In addition to biometric capabilities, PortalGuard offers multi-factor authentication (MFA) to further strengthen security. By requiring multiple forms of verification—such as a password combined with a biometric scan or a one-time code sent to a mobile device—organizations can significantly mitigate the risk of unauthorized access. The single sign-on feature allows users to access multiple applications with a single set of credentials, streamlining the login process and improving overall user satisfaction. Furthermore, the self-service password reset functionality empowers users to manage their passwords independently, reducing the burden on IT support teams and minimizing downtime. PortalGuard also supports a variety of integrations, including Microsoft Entra ID, PING, and ForgeRock, along with popular authenticators. This flexibility allows organizations to augment their existing security measures, such as those provided by DUO for MFA, by using PortalGuard as their Identity Provider (IdP). By adopting PortalGuard, organizations can achieve a higher level of protection for their sensitive data while simplifying access for their users, ultimately creating a more secure environment and a centralized hub for IAM needs.

## PortalGuard Reviews
  ### 1. Great product!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David A. | Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2020

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

We've been using PortalGuard for several years now, and it has worked perfectly for us. It integrates all of our single sign-on (SSO) services and consolidates links to them onto one page. It enables us to include non-SSO links, since users find the one-stop shopping experience helpful. It includes password reset options for users and enables us to provide First-Time Users with easy access to all our secure online services. PortalGuard supports MFA and enables admins to customize the options for some features. The PortalGuard application has grown significantly in the past few years, while the customer support has remained among the best we've had from any vendor. We chose PortalGuard to replace a more expensive portal solution and have never been more pleased.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

These days, we expect a solution we can install on our own. Although we needed the help of the implementation engineer, after several meetings, the rapport we developed was constructive for both articulating our specific needs and for getting those needs met. And honestly, the number of services we've had to integrate for SSO has been a bigger job than we expected. But even a complex configuration was made easy-peasy with the expert help we received! I'm hopeful that future releases will empower administrators to easily update branding and style features.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

We found PortalGuard to be the best option available.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This product was less expensive than the solution we had used previously. It also introduced additional functionality, better customer support, and improved reliability.

  ### 2. PortalGuard provides a reliable and secure authentication experience.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carlos D. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard excels at providing a secure and customizable identity management system. Its support for single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and self-service password resets makes it a strong solution for managing user access across multiple platforms. It integrates well with existing infrastructure, and once set up, it reduces helpdesk workload significantly by empowering users to resolve login issues themselves.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The initial setup can be complex, the admin interface can be a little outdated, although that might be a version issue. You might need a dedicated user to monitor and track the system. Documentation has to go through their end of troubleshooting, leading to extra time.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard is solving the challenge of secure and centralized user authentication across multiple systems. By enabling single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA), it reduces the number of login credentials users need to remember while improving overall security. For our organization, this means less time spent on account-related issues and more consistent access control across platforms.

  ### 3. Streamlined Security and User Experience: A Review of BIO-key PortalGuard

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan C. | Director of IT, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Enhanced Security, Improved User Experience, Seamless Integration with existing applications.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The learning curve is a a bit steep at first. The customization options for the login page are still limited. Their support system is kind of flaky. The support itself isn't just their system.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard from Bio-key helps me solve the following problems:

Password Fatigue: Using SSO allows for a shared user identity across multiple platforms.
MFA: Allows for an additional level of security for an identity.
Streamlined Access Management: PortalGuard simplifies access management, reduces administrative overhead and improves overall efficiency.

  ### 4. PortalGuard meets our needs, providing a highly customizable, full featured iDP/SSO solution.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is a highly customizable iDP/SSO solution. We have thousands of users using it daily for SSO with MFA, and it is a very stable, secure, and reliable system. The support is very responsive, and they have services to tailor the product to your business needs if you have a unique requirement. We have used this for several features and customizations to better fit our business process. PortalGuard supports load balancing and SQL clustering on-premise and is also available as a SaaS offering. Administration is straightforward and done via a GUI interface, and they have taken the time to label every option with what it does, which is very helpful. We have found the solution to be cost-effective, and it has kept pace with technological changes over the years, bringing support for the latest biometrics, passwordless, and cloud solutions. The PG logging is excellent and allows quick resolution to issues reported by users or when implementing new options. While PG has its own MFA solution and Desktop MFA options, it also supports Duo Universal Prompt for those who prefer this option. The system also has an announcement functionality, which allows you to target groups of users. It also supports an option to require users to accept policies etc,

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

If you have a highly customized template (which we appreciate is an option), it can be challenging when migrating between versions when changes include UI updates. The system is flexible and has many, many configuration options, which can impede QA testing.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single Sign On/Multi-Factor Authentication and SSPR. PortalGuard is an extraordinarily flexible product that can be whitelabeled. It allowed us to phase in MFA for thousands of users in a very methodical and controlled manner, so we did not overwhelm the helpdesk. We have around 70 various systems integrated with SSO via PortalGuard The announcement feature is a huge benefit.

  ### 5. SSO & MFA Done Right, with Easy Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

SSO and MFA are a big plus for today's standards. As wells as the ease of integration.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Mostly we have seen issues, or delays with troubleshooting and customization in certain areas.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has benefited in automizing the process of creating accounts for our students and solving password creation.

  ### 6. IdP for both on-premise and cloud

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Reid C. | Owner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The ability to have an IdP that can integrate with multiple user directories to provide a single login service for all corporate systems. Very flexible as it supports many authentication types with the ability to customize the reponse to fit the need.

Adding in integrations is a snap. Typical configuraton time is less than 5 minutes for integrating with SAML / OIDC.

The white glove service for standing up the initial service was exceptional along with their post support services.

This service is used daily by all staff members and has made password policy management a breeze.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Updates are very manual and require some technical ability if you need to do customizations. There does not appear to be a service to notify when updates are available for the environment.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single Sign-On solution which integrates with all products and includes central password policy management / enforcement.

**Official Response from Mary Roark:**

> Thank you for submitting your review for our cloud solutions. Please reach out to support with more feedback on how we can streamline updates.

  ### 7. Starting from scratch!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

We needed an Single Sign-On solution and were stumped at how to best implement this feature into our organization. This all started before the pandemic broke out and was a great help when we started making use of new online products and need better security. I think the best part is the support. We can alway get the help we need when we get stuck. Thanks to all the guys "under the hood!"

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Sometimes user attributes don't update exactly as they should, pretty rare, but does happen. But I know the programmer team is working on improving the product.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a college and we have thousands of users. PortalGuard makes it easy to use SSO with all our vendors and 3rd-party solutions. It is also easy for our Help Desk to work with users who are having trouble with their login. It is effectively tying all our products together and works well with our Active Directory solution.

**Official Response from Mary Roark:**

> Thank you for your feedback. I am glad the team was able to get SSO up for you and the students, staff quickly.

  ### 8. the experience has been good, support good, technology good, no complaints, no hiccups.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** CJ O. | Network Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The technology is good and the support is even better; I've had good support experiences from all of the people I've worked with at PortalGuard since our rollout a couple of years ago - I've had lots of time working with support getting help setting up new connections or sorting out an issue here or there and it has been a great relationship that we plan to continue.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The biggest detraction from PortalGuard hasn't been much - just waiting for new features to be released - the core product which we use is solid but some of the cool new features that would improve the overall experience just takes a bit, that said they seem to do a solid job of QA testing as once things are released they generally work like they're supposed to.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to PortalGuard we didn't have a proper self service password reset tool, with PortalGuard we do have one and it works well so it solved that issue. We've got a large number of separate systems and we're moving everything to SSO with contextual MFA to improve security and improve the user experience. We've tested the Biometric Authentication and it works but we've not been able to fully roll that out yet due to being busy. Overall the product has been solid and relatively easy to setup the individual connections and support is ready and able to help when needed.

  ### 9. Portalguard experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Very friendly and knowlegable staff. I no longer have to update PG because it is in the cloud and they take care of it.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Sometimes when we request a change (ie updated security ciphers, protocols, etc) the request has to work with all their other cloud clients before they can do an update for us. This is understandable, but can be annoying when you are trying to meet audit requirements.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They were the first company that we used for Single Sign On. Since SSO is becoming bigger and bigger and it not going away, Portalguard helped us to get going on our project of SSO.

**Official Response from Mary Roark:**

> Thank you for your kind words regarding our staff. Thank you for sharing the feedback on compliance requirements. If you can share upcoming new compliance requirements with our support and product management lead , I hope we can prioritize those in the future for you and our other clients that have compliance and audit pressure. Thanks again for taking the time to provide feedback.

  ### 10. POrtal Guard has been a great tool for our comapny

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2025

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Its outside of the normal attack vector for Microsoft.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The on prem solutions interface is a little outdated

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They solve passwrod resets and MFA

  ### 11. PortalGuard is a reliable product that does what it says with no hassle

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert W. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

What I like best is that it simply works. We never have issues with the system. We have had PortalGuard in place for the past several years, and primarily use it for password self-service. Any calls we get are from users who don't remember their validation data (favorite band, etc.) and we never have a problem with the service itself. Looking over our history of tickets, they are all entirely questions about upgrading versions. When we do ask questions, we get competent help (can't say that about all my vendors), and the team at Bio-Key does a great job responding to our needs.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Nothing. It does what I need, and for a great price compared to other products.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since we are a K12 organization, our problem was the number of staff we have that do not use our email systems regularly, and we require complex passwords. These are staff in primarily support roles, like special ed, who work with disabled children, or janitors, and even food service. As a result, when they needed to get into important systems, they tended to forget their password. Authenticating and resetting these passwords took a significant portion of the support team's time. Since we moved to Portalguard, we've seen a tremendous drop in the number of calls in this area, well over 90%. This has allowed us to expand and improve our support into other needed areas.

  ### 12. Overall, I believe PortalGuard to be a great fit!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

I think that the MFA and SSO (offered by PortalGuard) is one of the best ways to not only streamline the user access but also ensuring protection for the user as well.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The downside to PortalGuard is that it might be difficult to utlize with technology deficient users.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard allows for me to streamline my user access with ease of mind knowing that they are utilizing high tier protection. With this being said, this benefits me to not have to worry about my infomation being leaked or utilized without my permission.

**Official Response from Mary Roark:**

> Thank you for your positive review! Please share more feedback on what type of user training would help you to mary.roark@BIO-key.com.

  ### 13. Excellent Product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

It's less expensive than it's true competitors, and it allows us to stay compliant with all the new FTC regulations. The team really works with you to make sure that the solution works best for your environment. Their support team implemented the solution quickly and it integrated with our environment very easily. The support staff is patient and thorough. When we had a problem (of our own making) they stayed on task until it was resolved. If there's a feature you need, they'll sincerely consider it. In our case, they even saw the value of the feature we requested and added it for everyone (you're welcome!). Everyone in our organization has to use MFA daily, and when we calculated the the labor/time savings of the feature they added, it amounted to over $4M saved yearly!

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I'm only putting a response here because it's required. MFA isn't fun for our users, but it is necessary and Bio-Key makes it easy!

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us stay compliant with the new FTC regulations which keeps us in business.

  ### 14. PortalGuard is a solid solution and partner to work with

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cory W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is very flexible in terms of configuration options, OTP methods, and customization of pages. We deployed PortalGuard to over 10,000 users within just a couple of months instead of the 6+ month project we were anticipating

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I haven't found any dislikes with PortalGuard, it meets all of our expectations.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard has solved many issues for us, primarily enhanced our security with MFA. We also implemented SSO across our suite of applications and Self-Service Password Reset. These services have saved our customers and support team an incredible amount of time.

  ### 15. All you want & all you'll ever need

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

This portal is feature rich and really mature. I have no complaints from users or issues from my IT team. We have a tad more than 5000 users using it daily... Install, configure... and forget! Their support is outstanding; seamless updates and custom code support. We love it so much we integrated it with our product!

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Honestly, so far, nothing for our use case; they provide all the features we need... I'll let you guys know when I find something.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables us to safely expose our LDAP to the web so clients can reset their passwords in our SaS solution. We don't to manage the front end either. It overlays ours.

  ### 16. The Hidden Gem

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

This software is does everything you need it to do very simply. It is the hidden gem that no one knows about.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Nothing at all. It is a great product. If I could change one thing I would like for our Duo prompts to actually only prompt once per day and to limit the prompts by enabling them for every where, but my Public IP.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simplifying SSO and creating a simple portal.

  ### 17. Self Service Passowrd Reset (SSPM) My review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

I like the simplicity of navigating the SSPM portal. The end-user experience during 1st time registration is nicely drafted.
Customization & Branding options looks good and they can be backed up easily and restore with the help from support team.
We had to restore our SSPM due to underline VM issue, all our customizations & branding was able to restore from backup.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

There is only one issue, we couldnot address till now.

When a user is working from home, he/she could reset the password via SSPM, however their password does not update to their Laptop devices, since they aren't connected to Corporate LAN or VPN.

Thus user needs to remember two passwords for same account and they always confuse which one to use & when.
Is there any solution to this issue ?

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to have many helpdesk tickets only for password resets & account locking. with the help of SSPR, now our employees can use this self service without needing assistance from helpdesk team member

  ### 18. Excellent expereince

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard team was highly effective in implementing their solution and meeting our implementation schedule.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

No dislikes that we have. Their team is highly skilled and responsive to our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

Portalguard has added a tremendous value to our IT staff, the password reset functionality, SMS OTP codes, and MFA have also helped out our students when IT staff are not always avaiable.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single sign on across multiple platforms were a challenge with our users. Our users now have a central place that logs them in to their apps and allows users to navigate quickly for a near seamless expereince.

  ### 20. Reliable password & 2FA

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard works reliably and is easy for non-technical users to navigate. The 2FA component works very well and on the rare occasions we have needed support, the support has always been prompt.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I don't have any concerns or dislikes with the product.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Portalguard allow our users to quickly and easily reset network passwords. For our IT users that have MFA enabled it provides a streamlined login.

  ### 21. Great product and even better support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

We've been very impressed and grateful we implemented PortalGuard. Their SSPR and SSO has greatly improved our users experience. Being a higher education institution, there are quite a few exceptions and modifications. PortalGuard flexible and customizable enough to meet those. There support is outstanding. It's a very favorable experience and some of the best support we have from any of our vendors.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

We've been using PortalGuard for about two years now and am yet to come across any flaws or weaknesses.
Minor feature requests would b...
- More SSO-based reports out of the box.
- More customization in the report types and creating of them.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With SSPR being self-service, it's dreacrease the amount of help desk tickets we get. It's also established a consistent and automated process.

SSO has given us the opportunity to provide seamless SSO experience across hundreds of SSO apps. A pleasant surprise was PG's ability to support multiple SSO protocols (SAML, CAS).

  ### 22. Just starting out down the road of enterprise MFA

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

So far, the customization available via PortalGuard has been unmatched when compared to other options. Flexibilty of the system is a huge benefit for our enterprise of 850+ employees who would prefer not to have a single MFA method forced upon them. User acceptance is key.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I chose PortalGuard for the flexibility of MFA methods, the cost, and the customization options. So far, I haven't found a "dislike." The 60-day timeline is a bit more agressive for my small IT department, but they are accommodating with our slight delays, so that's not much of a dislike really.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Obviously, we needed to satisfy the MFA requirements and that was an easy target for PortalGuard. Providing multiple MFA methods will help us achieve 100% user acceptance, which can be difficult in a local government organization. Additionally, there were multiple domains in the organization that didn't have self-service password reset and the PortalGuard solution is going to provide them with that feature.

  ### 23. Great product but there are less expensive alternatives

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Portal Guard works consistently once configured and setup.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The downside to PortalGuard is the need to contract with another company for the SMS side. This is expensive and cumbersome. There are also newer, more integrated and less expensive alternatives available on the market.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SSO and MFA for employees and students

  ### 24. Portalguard

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2018

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Self Service Password reset and 2FA on server clients.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

They STILL have not worked out a solution for 2FA on a portable device that is not yet connected to the internet.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

If you plan to use their 2FA, figure out a workaround for mobile devices.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Self Service Password reset.

  ### 25. PortalGuard works well and is simple to manage.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terry G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2023

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

It's a simple solution that does what we need it to do. It's not overly complex or involved, and it just works.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Some of the management is done with applications on the server, it would be nice if those tasks could be done in the web interface.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Portalguard simplified and improved our user's ability to manage their own passwords. After rolling it out for that, we started using it for SSO with MFA as well.

  ### 26. Solid SSO Solution, but cloud-based option

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David J. | Director of Information Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is a solid SSO platform with great support. We purchased it primarily for the password recovery tools and support for MFA.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

While their locally hosted solution gives the local administrators a lot of control, the cloud product does not yet provide those same features. Initially, nearly every change needs to be a support ticket. Support is very responsive and professional, but it wasn't clear to me during the sales process that we wouldn't have the same level of control as their locally hosted product provides. They have since added a cloud-based admin portal which allows us to do more of our own configuration. At this point, I think the one thing missing is a good admin guide or manual. All of their documentation still seems to be focused on their locally hosted product.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have extensive requests for student password resets each semester. Our previous self-service solutions did not work reliably. PortalGuard allows students and staff to easily recover forgotten passwords.

  ### 27. PortalGuard is a fantastic system for our Users to self service password resets and account unlocks!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Easy to use interface in Windows login screen

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

US support contact hours only and we're based overseas.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

Give it a try!

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing Users to self service password resets and account unlocks without having to contact any IT personnell

  ### 28. Portalguard is a great value

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave R. | Applications Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Simplicity on the front end for users. I like the new features in 6.5.x that allow users to customize their experience more.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

It is a bit complex to configure on the back end. MFA is also somewhat complex to configure if you have a diverse user base. There are almost too many options. Also, the helpdesk feature needs to be a bit more customizable or simplified with respect to helping users with MFA issues. Resetting all values blows out items that are not MFA related and causes us more issues. An option to reset MFA elements only would be helpful.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Portalguard provides us with a one-stop location for all identity and login situations. It is flexible enough to fit most every situation we run into.

  ### 29. Stress free authentication

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard works like a champ! I've been using it for about five years without any complaints. The login screen works perfectly with LastPass, and the load time and authentication are fast and accurate. I see no errors on login. The user experience is seamless and we no longer receive complaints from users as we did with our home-grown system.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

No downsides at all - this has been a great experience all around.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our previous authentication system was home-grown, and as our user base expanded, we saw problems with timeouts, overloaded systems, and other issues that required users to clear their cache in order to continue. That has not happened since we switched to PortalGuard, and the users have not complained in years! It's been a great upgrade over our last approach.

  ### 30. The QR codes work well for our younger students.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

QR codes are helpful for our younger students.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I don't have any issues with Portalguard right now.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

QR codes which make it easier for teachers working with younger students on Chromebooks.

  ### 31. PortalGuard does what we want. We needed a way to login to AD prior to Google for Chromebooks.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David M. | CIO, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Lanyard Login, and logging into AD vs Google first.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

We seem to be their R&D department. We have been a test bed for the last three years.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Login into AD prior to Google for Chromebooks

  ### 33. PortalGuard is a solid foundation for our security infrastructure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob H. | E, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is a robust platform. It's stability and continued enhancement and support have exceeded our expectations.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Currently we have no issues with PortalGuard. Their development and support organizations have been very responsive to any issues we have encountered.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

PortalGuard was a great choice in retrospect and continues to meet our expectations.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard has allowed us to standardize our enterprise authentication across a multitude of on-premise, hosted, and cloud solutions. This is the bedrock of our security platform.

  ### 34. Great product overall, Helped us deliver a better experience for our students, faculty and staff!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy T. | Webmaster, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

We use the on-premise version of the product. SSO features are great and very flexible for integrating with many different systems and applications. The product also has a password reset and recovery tool and account management features that our helpdesk can utilize.

There's a little bit of initial setup and time needed to do that, but it has been a solid product, and little maintenance is required to keep the application functioning.

Support has also been helpful whenever we've needed some assistance with configuring the product.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The product is not designed to be a fully-fledged "intranet." So, if you're looking for that, it doesn't have features for that currently; however, we knew that before purchasing the product and for the features it does have and the cost of the product, we feel it delivers a great value.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single-Sign On to various applications, password reset and account unlock and management features. We use it as a single-page portal with other quick link access to applications on campus.

  ### 35. Love it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

I like the SSO login feature. It is way more convenient because it takes fewer clicks to get in. I like that we are trying to find ways to make it easier for people to sign in, while also providing good security.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I am not that familiar with PortalGuard or Bio-Key. However, I know that in general, people do not like change. We are so used to doing things a certain way, that the changes have to be really good changes to get the least amount of pushback.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't think this question pertains to me, but I would think this helps with security of information.

  ### 36. PG Administrator

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erich F. | Network Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

We like the Customer Service and Customizability

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

It's not running on Unix, but that is not so important anymore.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

The best, most versatile product we were able to find. Great service, performance and reliability. On-Prem and Cloud solutions are available to meet our business workflows and security requirements.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single Sign-on and Multifactor. The previous product was unreliable.

  ### 37. Works Pretty Well

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The flexibility for any type of SP setup. CAS, Forms-based, SAML.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The interface is not great for configuration and you cant consume metadata from SPs to help speed configuration.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enforcing password requirements, SSO implemtation. Low cost.

  ### 38. Portalguard is good but not with everything

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay C. | Tech Services Professional, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is the most cost effective solution we found

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

doesn't work with some of our systems, like JAMF

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use portalguard for MFA. It works well for the most part

  ### 39. Centralized Access and User Admin Made Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eddie R. | Operations Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2020

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Two aspects are key to PortalGuard:
First, the ease of access to multiple applications with single sign on capability. This means centalized control to applications that are both on premise and cloud access. This also means only one user/password for end users to access multiple applications.
Second, the ability to fully customize the home screen to match the end user look and feel. By using a proxy server, we can offer multi-tenant access for applications that charge on a per-user basis. This enables a relatively easy to understand ROI case when applicable. End users will have a seamless experience on the dashboard screen where they can easily access apps that are available to their user profile.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Currently there are two options for accessing applications: over HTTPS and with HTTP. Ideally the application should force https through the proxy even when the native application is only http. If a forced HTTPS access is not possible using a Scooch server proxy, then a reverse proxy could be offered as an alternative. The look and feel customization could also be better and more flexible in terms of how the header and footer interact with the native application. Currently the banners are covering up either the top or the bottom of the screen (including sometimes sensitive content such as buttons or other information). Ideally the header and footer banners should be in their own frame, thus unobtrusive to the content being shown.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

PortalGuard is an excellent choice. The price is more than reasonable for the quality of the software which feels and acts robust and safe as you would expect from such an important piece of infrastructure software. With the added proxy server, not only can to add features and security to the platform, you can also offer multi-tenant access to applications that otherwise charge on a per-user basis. From our experience it is easily recommendable.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our customer is using PortalGuard to simplify the access of their end customers and suppliers to a single website that consolidates up to five different platforms with only one username and password. Also they are using customized look and feel to make customers and suppliers know they are using applications that belong to them and not simply a generic app. Another important aspect is single sign on capability, which requires only one username and password combination to unlock multiple apps within the portal guard dashboard screen. The ability to recover forgotten passwords with a self-service autorecovery feature has been key to the success of the application, particularly for large customers that require large investments in help-desk for password recovery and other similar support centers.

  ### 40. Easy to use, and grateful for the upgrade

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Catherine H. | Online Education Faculty Mentor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

As the former web administrator who set up our previous login, I know from an administrative and user perspective the problems we had with our old SSO. Portal Guard has provided a seamless entry for customers, and as a (now) user rather than admin, I appreciate the reliability and security of the new login system. I also use a password vault, and have never had any issues with Portal Guard's forms.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

This is not really a "dislike," but the form fields appear to be much too long for the page. However, that could be due to our current team's design and not a Portal Guard default.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our old login system remained connected far longer than security would demand, often retaining connections over weeks without requiring a re-login from a specific browser. For a home computer that was not shared, that was OK, but not an ideal solution for a college with many computer labs. Portal Guard enforces logins far more frequently, which is reassuring for me as a user.

  ### 41. Solid product, good support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

While PortalGuard's staff appears to be small, they are very responsive to questions. They also do a good job up front with getting initial configurations set up, they walk you through the process well.
The product has 3 main components - Self-Service Password Reset, Single Sign-On, and Multifactor Authentication. It does all three well, without issues.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The Administrative UI is rather clunky, and I would like to see more granularity of control of MFA session length and other attributes like that.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

If you are looking for a reasonably-priced, solid product - for any or all of the main components - PortalGuard is a really good choice!

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our organization had no MFA at all, which was a huge security hole. PortalGuard allowed us to set that up at a reasonable price, with solid functinonality. Also our SSPR and SSO were present, but outdated. The migration from Shibboleth to PG took a while, but that was more a function of how hard and non-admin-friendly Shib was, not PG.

  ### 42. Basic, but good, product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The software does what it says it will. PortalGuard has a lot of the features you can find in more premium products. Setup is easy, and you can make changes on the fly (as needed). Their support is reactive and local.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

If you want to change the layout or web UI, you either need to know their code or to setup a service call. There is not a way to do it within the UI itself. If you want to create custom reports, you have to manually edit XML files.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PortalGuard is our primary SSO solution. We've recently pushed out Multi-Factor Authentication to our users, with great success.

  ### 43. PortalGuard Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

One portal to view all apps rather than sign in at each app.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Unable to logout and relogin. It keeps me login and need to open a different browser.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

Compare other products.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduce the passwords to access several apps.

  ### 44. Easy to use/administer product for our enterprise

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hsiawen H. | Executive Director of Infrastructure and Security, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Portalguard has been an excellent, comprehensive and most importantly versatile solution that has allowed us to quickly and ALMOST painlessly roll SSO out to over 20k users.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

The product can be a little too simplistic. Which in most respects is a net positive.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SSO and most importantly end user self-service have been a real benefit.

  ### 45. Versatile, secure, flexible, and excellent Identity Solution!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The best thing I like about PortalGuard is the excellent Support Team. They are quick to respond and very helpful and knowledgeable.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

Very few apps are not compatible based. I would also like to see a more user-friendly interface for configuring ProtalGuard, including recommendations, tips, or links to typical applications and how to integrate them. The Configuration UI may be improved to have a more intuitive, helpful, and organized to help find settings and the proper configurations.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

Be thorough in planning and testing of integrations, workflows, and processes.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving a challenge to have a single sign-on solution with various identities in multiple physical locations. Some nice benefits include multi domain capabilities, dynamic security configurations, and customized functions.

  ### 46. Great product but a bit privative customization options are holding it back.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

I like the ease of adding products to the system for SSO.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I'm not too fond of the branding options. Having to modify HTML, ASPX, CSS and INC files, feels a bit outdated. I feel like this should be a part of the administrative interface. Adding custom themes should be more intuitive. I would like to see a theming system similar to Wordpress.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing a single sign-on source for our users helps our IT staff by having fewer "I forgot my password" issues as everyone has the same password for most of our products.

  ### 47. Excellent results at a great price.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt M. | Director of IT, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

PortalGuard is easy to use. Setup is pretty simple when adding new products. Most functionality including MFA is included in the very reasonable price from my experience. Support is also very good and responsive although we rarely have to use them. It is a very stable platform and very reliable.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I have not had any issues with PortalGuard.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SSO and MFA

  ### 48. Great feature set and always improving. Support is outstanding and listens to clients.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Working with the support staff who are always willing to assist with any issue, even if they can't resolve the issue immediately.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

There are a few things that I would like to see improved in the offerings, but we are working together on solutions that suit our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering PortalGuard:**

Take advantage of the support they provide. It will help get through several issues.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Secure logins to all of our environments. Looking to add more benefits as we use more features of PG.

  ### 49. PortalGuard meets our needs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rick S. | Executive Director, Technology / Chief Information Systems Officer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

Their support staff has been exceptionally responsive and open to addressing our needs.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

It lacks a fully functional provisioning tool/service

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SSO and MFA

  ### 50. Great product and excellent support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2021

**What do you like best about PortalGuard?**

The product stability and feature set are excellent.

**What do you dislike about PortalGuard?**

I can't think of any downside to using PortalGuard.

**What problems is PortalGuard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One IDM product to handle authentication.
