  ### 17. Incorrect, incomplete and old data

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexandra M. | Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2022

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

Nothing really, this had been a total scam.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

There is a reason why Pitchbook does not offer a free trial like all other saas players - it's due to the simple fact that the data for companies and investors is either incomplete, missing, or well out of date. The whole pitch and the reasoning for the price tag given is that "there is a whole analyst team that makes sure we have the best complete data", which I came to understand is total lie. I switched from Crunchbase to Pitchbook because of the promise of an abundance of relevant data points, whereas in reality, the tool only made me do even more research outside of the tool itself as it did not have even the core roles mapped out in VCs and startups. With invalid emails, core people in companies not even listed, data points from 2019, this is definitely an overrated and overpriced tool. You can get to a better result using Linkedin, Reply.io and Crunchbase, chances are all 3 combined will be times faster than Pitchboo and (most definitely) times cheaper.

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Created a few more to be honest.

  ### 18. Adding transparency to opaque data

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

I find it extremely useful to run screeners that incorporate different criteria to draw up a comprehensive list of buyers, sellers, investors and companies

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

The data can often be stale and dated. Information such as contact information especially is unreliable

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a Salesperson, I like to track the investments my clients are making and PitchBook is the best way to track this information. Any change in the client portfolio is emailed to me.

  ### 19. Bait & Switch Free Trial Tactics

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2023

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

Moderately helpful informaton - good filters

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

The company uses an outright deceptive "free trial" bait and switch. They drag you into two meetings, then expect you to sign up to a $20-40k annual contract and refuse to honor the "free trial."

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

N/A

The taxonomy is pretty accurate for most of the technology areas, they have a very detailed database of startups per category. We use other database such as Cbinsights and Traxn too, but Pitchbook stands out

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Its very costly, for a restriction free access you need to pay a bomb, while regular access restricts download for 1 year data only which is usually not enough

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use pitchbook for vendor analysis and technology scouting purpose. They have pretty good collection of vc deals with all series information and great taxonomy

  ### 30. PitchBook is phenomenal product with great support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

PitchBook is an excellent product that provides the data required to navigate an opaque market and make considered decisions.

I use PitchBook data to do everything from identifying key decision makers within an organisation to training machine learning models to predict trends in valuation and fundraising. It's an invaluable resource that enhances our analysis and strategic decision making.

Our account manager (Tom - based in the London office) has been great and a real asset to the company.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Very few meaningful downsides. I would certainly like more complete data - but PitchBook offers more private market data than any of its competitors.

However, it is important to note that PitchBook is at its heart a private market data company focused on venture capital and private equity investing. While its fairly recent integration of public market data from Morningstar has been very helpful - it wouldn't compare favorably with vendors providing exclusively public markets data, for a use case that is focused solely on the public markets, because that is simply not its core competency.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

My advice to those considering PitchBook would be to simply perform a side by side comparison of a few applied tasks accessing private companies and markets. I'm very confident that they will come to the conclusion that the product is superior to its competitors.

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It would be very challenging to do my job without PitchBook. It assists us in valuing private companies, mapping markets, and finding key decision makers. The excel plugin simplifies our analysis significantly as its intuitive design allows us to seamlessly aggregated multiple data feeds. I haven't yet used the direct data feed through calling its API - but hope to in future.

  ### 31. Pitchbook is an awesome way to quickly pull information about startups!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Venture Capital & Private Equity | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

The research is high quality and reliable in most cases. It allows me to quickly access information about startups that would otherwise take much longer to accumulate - I estimate that I save around 5-10 minutes per company.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Can't copy and paste from the Chrome extension, and the quality of the writing in the company profiles is sometimes sub-par. Other than that it's a great platform that I enjoy using a lot!

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gathering information about companies during sourcing. The biggest problem I am solving is access to reliable information during the sourcing process and time savings since I have to look through hundreds of companies on a weekly basis.

  ### 32. Customer service, data, plug-ins, private markets, public markets, mobile app

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** eric g. | analyst , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2018

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

The best thing about pitchbook is the support team built into the platform via the chat feature as well as a designated account manager. You can quickly learn how to use pitchbook using them as resources to help you with your projects as well as the plethora of online tutorials. The private market data is updated very often and it has time stamps to show when it was last updated. Nifty plug-ins such as the chrome plug-in for fun added use as well as the mobile app to quickly pull up info on the go and in conference calls.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

The public markets plugin does not track indexes- this has made it more difficult to switch from S&P 500 Capital IQ. This is the only thing that pitchbook did not outperform S&P 500 Capital IQ in.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

comparable to CAP IQ- flexible payment options

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pitchbook immediately improved my ability to research and find data and build visual graphs from the data. The industry reports from analysts and market reviews are beneficial in quantifying the VC/PE spaces and useful for pitches.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

I like that it shows me detailed financial information for each company in the database, and I am able to compare different companies via standardized metrics.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

I dislike that there is no information beyond company-wide info (e.g. product level info).

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am determining the effect of a merger on a company's profitability. I benefit from Pitchbook's detailed merger and financial metric information.

investor relations problems

  ### 35. All in one spot for company information

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dennis H. | Head of Origination, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

More often than not, Pitchbook has information on all the companies I'm looking up in an easily searchable format

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Sometimes, the search/filtering tools are a bit difficult to navigate

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

There are a few other services in this space, but Pitchbook seems to be the most comprehensive

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it when I need information on companies

**Official Response from Kevin Lissandrello:**

  ### 36. Great Product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicole E. | Business Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2018

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

Awesome for finding information and quick details. If you have to do in-depth research on companies this is perfect for it. It is easy to search a company and find out any information you would need. Plus the search tools allow you to find several companies with ease.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Very very expensive and cannot share accounts to help offset the cost of the subscription. It would be much better if they allowed people to share accounts.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

I would try to find out if your company will pay for the subscription because of how pricy it is.

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding information about companies and contact information.

  ### 37. VERY helpful for PE firm data

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeanne K. | Associate, Management Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2018

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

This is an essential tool for anyone working in an industry in which they research private equity. Has lots of useful data that is difficult to find anywhere else aggregated in the same way.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Info is not always accurate (for example, CEO listed during at time of deal is not always accurate)

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

Double-check company data against a Google search if something seems off to you, but PE fund data is fairly accurate

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We recruit for PE and PE-backed portfolio companies, so the data here is very helpful in contributing to our research.

  ### 38. Most efficient way to get accurate, current venture data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher P. | Co-Founder & CEO, Capital Markets, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2018

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

My firm uses Pitchbook first when assessing a potential deal to look at comparable deals in similar markets as well as to understand what deal terms were for similar deals. It is both fast and accurate and helps us with critical decision making around funding related to certain deals.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

Sometimes there is very little data around angel deals. The more we use Pitchbook the more I wish this part of the platform were complete. I also wish there were better platform training and support to learn how to best leverage all the aggregated data. Even after using it for over a year I'm confident we are still only scratching the surface.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

I strongly recommend it, especially if you are making any investment decision for your firm.

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Understanding which deals have had investment and what the structure was for each deal, as well as

  ### 39. A great platform for startup companies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul D. | Chief Executive Officer, Semiconductors, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2017

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

PitchBook has been tremendously valuable in helping our startup company develop and execute a plan for financing our company. The quality of the information is quite good, especially when one considers how dynamic the financing marketplace is. Startups change daily, investors do to. PitchBook manages to stay quite accurate even in this fast moving environment.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

The fact that as a small company we can't get multiple logon accounts. We are all working on the same objective of getting our company financed, yet all PitchBook use it tied to my (CEO) laptop. This does not allow me to distribute some of the workload to other members of my staff or my advisors.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

The quality of the data and the committment of the support staff have been very good.

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PitchBook is helping our company develop a strategy for financing our company.

  ### 40. Very helpful software platform for reviewing companies

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Venture Capital & Private Equity | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2018

**What do you like best about PitchBook?**

I love that they have post-money valuation information - you literally can't get this with any other software platform.

**What do you dislike about PitchBook?**

I don't love that the platform is sometimes missing companies. I'm often submitting companies to them to add to their research. They could potentially improve the platform with contact information.

**Recommendations to others considering PitchBook:**

I'd think about your typical use case. Are you looking at private equity or venture capital deals? If you're looking at later stage PE deals, CAPIQ might be the better option, but otherwise Pitchbook is a much stronger product

**What problems is PitchBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Understanding the funding status and valuation information of companies that we may be looking to invest in or partner with
