And when we need to find certain material, that process is equally as seamless and easy. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** At first, it was slightly difficult to get started uploading and using all the functions allowed. At this point, it's a well-oiled machine and I really can't think of a dislike about the program. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Previous to our organization using MediaValet, we relied on our server to find and store material. MediaValet has truly streamlined this process and allowed us to quickly locate media we're looking for. For my benefit, I'm now able to save hours of time due to the transcribing video function. There are so many ways to do things. So many things we have not touched on yet, like related assets and ratings. I need to learn more to find what I dislike. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping our assets safe, but attainable on many levels of personal (and non-personal). Our biggest issue there was to keep everting in one "location" so that there is no question who has the most updated file. I also thought the permissions were a bit challenging to get sorted out at first to make sure I had the necessary access to creating the portal and uploading the media. In terms of ease of use, it was moderately easy to set up, but it took some time for us to figure out the use case and access. When creating portals, I wish I could have a little bit more fluidity or be able to change it visually while maintaining the portal element. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** MediaValet creates a centralized location where all resources can be easily accessed, edited, and shared. I like that it has a larger repository size that is outside of our closed system, making it sharable with outside collaborators. We are able to use it to hold a great deal of collateral, and I appreciate the organized file folders that are easily recognizable. The initial setup was fairly easy. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** When collaborating, files have to be "downloaded" and then re "uploaded" - this allows for two people who are working simultaneously to overwrite the others work by accident. We work around it by telling collaborators when the coast is clear and when not to touch a document but it isn't ideal. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use MediaValet for asset storage and sharing with collaboration. It provides a large repository size outside our closed system that's sharable with collaborators. I like how it holds a great deal of collateral and has organized file folders that are easily recognizable. ### 5. It's fairly simple and the method of dividing everything into parent, children categories is really handy. It's easy to find what you put in there, and I also like the large amount of storage available. The setup was straightforward and not complicated at all, making it very easy to understand and use, even for someone who has never used a platform like this before. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** I will say the time it takes to upload certain things if something is past one gigabyte, it becomes very tedious to upload. It takes a long, long time where you can't even let your device idle because then the upload will fail. So that's pretty annoying. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use MediaValet for saving my personal archive. It solves problems like adding attributes to what's being saved and automatically figuring out metadata points, so I don't have to input them myself. ### 6. There were many integrations that make the site run even smoother with your existing applications, including Adobe and Microsoft 365. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** It's not necessarily about MediaValet itself, but the DAM industry is high in cost and makes it tough to justify throughout the organization. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had a big problem with outdated materials being used by internal and external stakeholders, so MediaValet gave us more control to restrict access to media that was outdated to help make sure our stakeholders have the most up to date information and media that they need. ### 7. The face recognition is helpful, especially for large events with hundreds of attendees. Migrating content via the Box connector is seamless. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** When it comes to browsing assets, Mediavalet's UI leaves a lot to be desired. There is limited ability to customize the interface in order to quickly navigate to where you want to go. The Javascript-based UI also limits a user's ability to navigate backward to the same view/parameters that they came from. The search function leaves a lot to be desired as well--it does a good job searching through all available information but it is very bad at refining said information. Not all attributes/categories are able to be segmented using boolean operators, which means that you cannot easily filter out assets you aren't looking for. Once you have identified an asset, there is limited ability to customize the UI for the selected image, so you are often looking at a lot of attributes you don't need before finding the ones you do. Attributes like "Creation date" and "Location" do not come with the system so you can create custom attributes, however because they are custom attributes you cannot manipulate them the way you might in other systems (e.g. you cannot sort a set of assets by creation date, and Location is a text field that works like a keyword instead of a geographic location). Bulk updating information is also difficult. MV recently rolled out metadata templates for upLOADING but you cannot use them for UPDATING. Finally, the face recognition is useful only to a point. If someone is not identified by the face recognition tool, there is no way to manually associate that photo with that person's other photos. (So if someone is at the edge of a large group, for example, and their face is distorted by the lens, there is no way for their picture to show up when you select them in the "People" tab.) You can identify them using keywords but when you search you will have to search both AI-identified people and keywords. As of right now, you cannot export this information either. So if you wanted an easy way to get a list of everyone who is pictured and identified in a certain category, you are out of luck. It is a frustrating system that I would not recommend to anyone. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mediavalet allows us to share content with external stakeholders safely and effectively. The face recognition tool also makes it easy to search for people within your assets, even if their identities are not specified in the metadata. **Official Response from ian smyth:** > Thanks for the feedback. When inputting course content with additional supporting files, MediaValet ensures the entire process is simple, and typically all of the information is loaded and visible in minutes. As an admin, I have a lot of control over what data is stored with each asset and the different roles I can assign users to. As a user, I love the recent improvements and feature additions to the search function, in particular the smart search feature. I appreciate some of the design of the recently updated user interface, it's a great improvement. Also, the customer support has been very good aside from a few blips. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** I'm a bit conflicted with MediaValet. On the one hand, I see a lot of improvements and features being added to the software, but on the other hand, few of the features are useful to us, and/or they feel half-baked. About a year ago, they had a major UX overhaul, but only for most of the pages. There are a lot of different options for attributes you can add to be helpful, but they're buried at the bottom of the second page of the details screen, with no way to make them more visible. They added the ability to make restricted categories that only some user groups can upload assets to, but they don't have a way to restrict groups from editing or deleting assets from those categories, so there's no way to protect the assets while keeping them visible. They boast how it can integrate with many, many different applications, but when we tried out two of the integrations, it was inconsistent to connect to and difficult for the end-users to use (we ended up not using any integrations afterwards. You can theoretically keep a master copy of a photo and just download renditions, but they take a while to process, then you have to go to a separate page to download it, and then it's in a zip file even if it's one image. It's almost frustrating being able to see how so many of the features could be extremely useful, but fall short in one way or another. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I don't believe that the team using MediaValet at my organization is organized themselves enough to use MV to it's potential, so it definitely could be solving a lot more problems than it currently is. That said, it is helping the problem of version control; it's nice to have a place that has the "official" version of an asset. It's also nice to have the metadata tied to the asset, like the credit/attribution language. ### 11. It allows us to pull lots of photos into one album and send them directly to our partners when they're requested. It's much easier than pulling them from our drive. I also appreciate that MediaValet makes it easier to find photos and digital assets, as it's simpler than storing them on my computer, and I can easily use keywords for searches. Sharing photos with others is much easier now, using links and creating galleries instead of sending each photo via email. Additionally, I found it quite easy to upload our own photos, ensuring they are tagged and usable after some team training. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** I have found that if I wanted to use the reverse search function, it's not quite as robust as I'd like. And then, obviously, if there's a specific keyword that you're using , and photos aren't tagged with that keyword, it doesn't pull what you need it to. It would be great if there was a function that made suggestions that might fit with the keyword you're using. **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** MediaValet makes it easier to find photos and digital assets without storing them directly on my computer. It simplifies managing and sharing assets by using a link and gallery instead of emails, which was difficult when using our shared drive. ### 12. The support has been great, although the time difference means we often can't get a live meeting available til afternoon our time. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** While the search is very granular, there are sometimes things we'd like to exclude from the search (e.g., reading the fine print on screens in the background versus the main subject of the image). **What problems is MediaValet solving and how is that benefiting you?** MediaValet allows us to give users outside the core group the ability to search for their own images, while restricting their access to further use the images. It makes them more involved and saves the designers time. The software is simple and straightforward, and its performance has been solid. It has never failed on me. Support and onboarding have also been great, mainly because they’re barely needed thanks to the simplistic design. I've integrated it to my computer simply by easily downloading everything that I could ever need in different file formats. The training time to learn how to navigate it is virtually 0 hours. I haven't used the AI or intellegence features as of yet, so I can not give feedback on that part. I will, however, look forward to using those features in the future. Overall, the ROI feels reasonable because it solves the problem of integrating different teams’ assets. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** It would be helpful if the software can edit images and video within the software to relieve the need of doing that elsewhere. It’s easy to organize everything and quickly find what you need. Quick downloads are my best friend, and I can get what I need without having to search - especially by tagging photos by venue or group. It is easy to learn without extensive training, and help has been useful for any questions. While I do not formally use any integrations, the links are useful in providing portfolios of images to clients without sending a million attachments. **What do you dislike about MediaValet?** I am typically not a fan of AI, but I do enjoy being able to type in "columns" and getting images of exactly what I'm looking for. I like that the new version works well on mobiles, which is super useful when I'm on the go and need to find assets quickly to satisfy my customer's needs. We have tried several options, but I still have to recieve media assets, save them to my computer, then perform an upload.
