"Familiar, Easy-to-Learn 2D CAD for Reliable DWG Drafting"
4/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

I like most about DraftSight is that it feels familiar if you have already worked with traditional 2D CAD software. The interface is easy to understand, and I can create and edit DWG files without spending a lot of time learning the software. The basic drafting tools are straightforward, and file compatibility is good, which is important when working with customers, vendors, and existing drawings.

I also like that it is not unnecessarily complicated for regular 2D drafting work. For day-to-day drawing creation, modification, dimensioning, and documentation, it does the job without a steep learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

The main thing I dislike is that some features and workflows are not as smooth as they could be compared with more mature CAD platforms. Performance can also become noticeable when working with large or complicated drawings. Some commands and settings take a little time to get used to, especially when switching from another CAD system.

I would also like to see better automation and customization options, along with a more modern and consistent user experience across different tools. For basic 2D drafting it works well, but there is still room to improve the overall workflow for users working on more complex projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Hi Praveen, It's encouraging to hear that DraftSight is making your everyday 2D drafting work simpler without requiring you to relearn familiar CAD workflows! We're glad that its intuitive interface and DWG compatibility are helping you create, edit, and share drawings efficiently with customers, vendors, and other teams.

We also appreciate your detailed feedback on performance with larger drawings, advanced workflows, and opportunities for greater automation and customization. We understand that while ease of use is important, having the flexibility to handle more complex projects is just as valuable. Your suggestions provide useful insight into where we can continue enhancing the DraftSight experience.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for recognizing the value DraftSight brings to your daily work!

"Easy to Use with Seamless Integration with SolidWorks"
4.5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

I use DraftSight to work on my DWG drawings and appreciate that it has all the necessary features to create and modify my 2D drawings, even those from other software. The interface is readable and the ease of use is incredible. Moreover, the price is reduced and the classic appearance of the 2D software makes adaptation very simple. The initial setup was very easy, I would even sincerely say easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

I find that DraftSight could benefit from an artificial intelligence tool to make its use even easier. It also lacks piping tools, such as a standard library of valves, pipes, fittings, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Simple, Familiar 2D Workflow That Fits Perfectly with SOLIDWORKS"
5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

What I like most about DraftSight is how simple and familiar the 2D workflow feels. It’s easy to create, edit, and review drawings, and I like that it fits well with my SOLIDWORKS workflow when I need to work with both 2D and 3D designs. The interface is also straightforward, so I can focus on the drawing instead of spending time figuring out the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

One thing I would improve is the learning curve for some of the more advanced tools and settings. Most of the basic 2D workflow is straightforward, but it can take some time to discover where certain options are. I’d also like to see an even smoother workflow when moving between DraftSight and SOLIDWORKS, especially when working on projects that involve both 2D drawings and 3D models. "Familiar CAD Interface with Reliable DWG/DXF Compatibility"
3.5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

What I like most about DraftSight is its familiar CAD interface and reliable DWG/DXF compatibility. It allows me to quickly open, edit, annotate, and share 2D drawings while keeping a practical connection with my broader SOLIDWORKS design workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

The main limitation is that some advanced features and specialized workflows require a higher license level or additional configuration. The interface is generally familiar, but a few commands and settings could be more consistent and easier to discover. Improved customization and clearer guidance for new users would make the overall experience even better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to Learn and Practical for 2D CAD"
4.5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

What I like most about DraftSight is how quickly I was able to get comfortable with it. I started learning it without spending a lot of time trying to understand a complicated interface, and within less than two weeks I had learned a lot of the main tools and workflows and was able to complete the Associate certification.

The commands and overall workflow felt familiar after some practice, so I could focus more on actually learning 2D CAD rather than figuring out how the software works. I also liked that I could learn a new tool and see the results quickly while practicing. For me, the learning curve was probably the biggest advantage because the software didn't feel unnecessarily complicated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

One thing I noticed while learning DraftSight is that some of the more advanced tools take a bit more time to understand compared with the basic commands. The basic workflow was easy for me to pick up, but as I went further, I had to spend more time practicing to remember where some tools and options are.

I also think the learning experience could be even better with more guided examples for some of the less common features. This wasn't a major issue for me, especially since I was able to complete the Associate certification in less than two weeks, but having more practical examples would make the learning process easier for new users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Eddie Brooks of DraftSight

Hi Salah, Congratulations on earning your DraftSight Associate certification in less than two weeks! That's a great accomplishment, and we're glad DraftSight made it easy to build your 2D CAD skills alongside your existing 3D design experience. It's especially encouraging to hear that the familiar commands and straightforward workflow helped you focus on learning rather than navigating the software. We also appreciate your suggestion for more guided examples covering advanced features. Practical learning resources are important, and your feedback is valuable as we look for ways to improve the experience for new users. Thanks for sharing your journey, and congratulations again on your certification!

"Seamless AutoCAD-Like Workflow in DraftSight—Zero Retraining Needed"
5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

Zero-Friction Muscle Memory (The AutoCAD Transition)

If you already know AutoCAD, then you’ll feel at home in DraftSight. The commands, aliases, command-line workflow, keyboard shortcuts, and layer system are all so similar that the transition is almost seamless. I can type L for line, TR for trim, or C for circle, and it simply works. There’s no need to retrain my hands or undo years of muscle memory, which makes adopting it feel virtually painless. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

The Loss of the Free Tier (and the Resentment That Lingers)

DraftSight originally built a huge user base by offering a robust, genuinely free 2D CAD tool. When Dassault Systèmes removed the free version and pushed everyone toward paid subscriptions, it ended up alienating a big segment of hobbyists, students, and small shops. Even though it’s still cheaper than AutoCAD, that change continues to leave a bad taste for long-time users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Eddie Brooks of DraftSight

Hi Alejandro, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with DraftSight! It's great to hear that the transition from AutoCAD felt so natural and that you were able to jump right in without having to relearn the tools and commands you're already comfortable with.

We also appreciate your honesty about the move away from the free version. We know that change was disappointing for many long-time users, and we understand where you're coming from. Our goal is to continue making DraftSight a powerful, accessible, and affordable CAD solution, and feedback like yours helps us understand what matters most to our community.

Thanks again for being part of the DraftSight community and sharing your thoughts!

"Seamless Workflow with SolidWorks Integration"
4/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

I really like how DraftSight works cohesively with SolidWorks, making it feel like one connected workflow rather than using two separate tools. This seamless integration means I can easily move files and geometry between the two platforms without hassle. The quick and smooth transition from 2D layouts to 3D models saves me time and cuts out any potential friction. This unity keeps my entire design stack under one roof, which is simpler than juggling different CAD software for just the 2D work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

There are a couple of issues I face with DraftSight. Firstly, the files I receive from clients or vendors don't always appear the same on my end. It seems like layers, line types, or dimensions sometimes display differently, so I have to manually check and fix them before trusting the design. Secondly, cleaning up profiles for laser and CNC work can be quite cumbersome. It takes more steps than I would like to get a profile properly cleaned up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Eddie Brooks of DraftSight

Hi Muhammad, Thank you for sharing your experience with DraftSight! It's great to hear how well DraftSight and SOLIDWORKS complement each other in your design process. We're glad that being able to move between 2D drawings and 3D models is helping you save time and keep your workflow simple.

We also appreciate your feedback on file compatibility and preparing profiles for laser and CNC work. We understand how frustrating it can be when drawings don't display as expected or require extra cleanup, especially when you're trying to keep projects moving. These are valuable insights, and we'll share them with our product team.

Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback and for choosing DraftSight as part of your design workflow!

"Familiar AutoCAD Feel with Even Better Functionality at a way better price"
5/5
What do you like best about DraftSight?

I’m a recovering AutoCAD power user who now uses SOLIDWORKS primarily. DraftSight is similar enough that I can dig deep in my brain and pull out those old skills I used to have. At the same time, it’s not just similar—it feels better, with more functionality than I remember having before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DraftSight?

The boot time is slow. It takes almost as long to start DraftSight as it does to launch SOLIDWORKS, and for a 2D CAD tool, it really shouldn’t take that long. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Eddie Brooks of DraftSight

Hi Adam, We love the description of being a "recovering AutoCAD power user"! It's great to hear that DraftSight lets you put those familiar CAD skills to work while discovering new functionality along the way. We're especially happy to know that the Picture-to-DWG conversion tools have been so useful in your workflow, and we appreciate you recommending DraftSight to others!

We also appreciate your feedback about startup times. We understand that when you need to make a quick edit or jump into a project, waiting for software to launch can be frustrating. Performance is an important part of the user experience, and feedback like yours helps us understand where improvements can make a real difference.

We're glad DraftSight has earned a place alongside SOLIDWORKS in your design toolkit!
