A couple of months ago, I had the same experience. Instacart is full of promises and unfulfilled claims. In my case, I used Instacart for one order at Fresh Thyme, a specialty grocer, for a home delivery order. It went well except Instacart added a shopping/delivery fee, asked for a tip for the shopper/driver and jacked up the actual store prices by about 10-20%. That went OK, received my groceries as ordered and on time. The second time was a disaster, after entering my online order, I couldn't get a promised delivery time. So, I persisted until, the "first available time slot" appeared as an option to get the groceries. I chose that, since a specific time seemed to be unavailable. Unfortunately, the range of times was a week long. So, I was patient and each day when I checked the status of my order. First, it was a week, the next day, only 6 days, then 5 days, etc. to end of the week. On the last day, the latest time was 8 pm. When I checked back about 8 pm, I found, to my annoyance, that the order was canceled!!! There was no explanation, no offer of another time, no HELP whatsoever!!! That was the end of Instacart for me, I challenged the charges to my credit card for their service and that was refunded by my bank. My personal way of dealing with this fiasco was to find as many review sites as I could and leave my story on all of them... Lesson learned, NEVER DEAL WITH INSTACART AGAIN!!! I really don't believe they are a scam, just in way over their collective heads in a business where customer satisfaction is paramount and skimming off their fee by up-charging the store's purchase prices will make them anathema to most customers. I have gone to Walmart Grocery's pick up option, where there is no added charge for the shopping service! While their prices are not the lowest, like Aldi's, their service and quality are more than adequate with no hidden $$ surprises. the P/U is seamless and the people bring your order out at polite and very careful as they load your car. For example, no heavy stuff on top of fragile potato chips or fruit and frozen foods and cold items in the styrofoam cooler.
