WIPKeep

AI accounting software with built-in job costing for small contractors: describe your transactions in plain English, and WIPKeep drafts the books for you to approve. Type what happened, "Bought $840 of lumber for the Johnson deck job", and WIPKeep drafts a balanced double-entry journal entry, tagged to the job. Nothing posts automatically: you review and approve every entry, because AI can misread that is exactly why the approval gate exists. Job costing is native to the ledger, not a bolt-on. Costs you tag to a job are held as work-in-progress (WIP). When the job is done, a one-step project close records the sale, clears WIP to cost of goods sold, and applies customer deposits with a governed reopen if something needs fixing. You get per-job profit & loss and vendor-spend reports as Excel exports. Setup is zero: your chart of accounts builds itself from the transactions you enter. Reports include P&L, balance sheet (with the assets = liabilities + equity check), cash flow, T-accounts, and a 1099 vendor summary consolidated by tax ID (an internal preview, not IRS e-filing). Recurring entries and straight-line depreciation run on schedules you review and approve each cycle. Every entry is checked debits = credits before save and re-checked at commit, funds checks fail closed, corrections happen through linked reversing entries, the audit log is append-only, and closed fiscal years lock. Business and personal books stay separate. What WIPKeep does not do (yet): no bank feeds or auto-import; you enter transactions yourself, in plain English. It is single-user. Reports are Excel/PDF downloads, not live dashboards. Revenue recognition is completed contract only (not percentage-of-completion), and close is year-end only. WIPKeep launched in 2026, so there is no integrations ecosystem yet. Pricing: Free plan ($0, view-only — view history and download reports). Gig $19.99/mo, Small Business $39.99/mo, Project Pro $69.99/mo (Founding-Member rate $49.99/mo for the first 12 months). Every paid plan starts with a 15-day free trial, card required, cancel online, no fee. If you cancel, your account becomes free view-only and your data stays downloadable.
