TransitFare is a modular transit technology platform built for small and mid-sized transit agencies operating 10 to 200 vehicles. Founded in 2012, the platform integrates automated fare collection, real-time CAD/AVL (vehicle tracking and dispatch), automated passenger counting (APC), transit service alert publishing, and GTFS data feed management into a modular cloud-based system.
TransitFare's automated fare collection supports contactless smart cards and mobile barcode ticketing. Riders manage their fares through the UseTransit mobile app, which combines a fare wallet, trip planning, real-time arrival information, and personalized alert subscriptions in a single app.
TransitFare designs and manufactures its own onboard hardware and develops all platform software in-house. The TF4 Edge Gateway is a family of integrated onboard ITS devices available in four configuration tiers, from basic GPS fleet tracking for paratransit vans through full-fleet platforms with APC sensors, CCTV backhaul, automated stop announcements, and destination sign control for fixed-route buses.
TransitFare's software stack can also be deployed to commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, giving agencies the flexibility to run the platform on TransitFare-built devices or on third-party equipment already in their fleet.
Transit Alerts is a standalone SaaS product that enables agencies to compose and publish GTFS-Realtime service alerts to Google Maps, Apple Maps and other platforms, plus email, SMS, social media, and agency websites, from a single dashboard.
The platform has processed over 60 million fare validations, powers nearly 600 transit vehicles, and serves communities totaling nearly 2 million residents across the United States and Canada. Over 900 hardware units are deployed. Over 90% of customers expand to additional platform modules after initial deployment, with trusted partnerships spanning over a decade. Average deployment is 12 weeks for full AFC and 4 weeks for SaaS-only products.
