The software instantly finds any desired word in titles stored on the computer or within a document. For example, the name Thomas appears 109 times in document titles and 6739 times in my collection of documents among 250,000 files I’ve created over the past fifteen years. It took X1 less than a second to identify all instances and display the URL for each occurrence. I use X1 multiple times a day, often to find related files stored elsewhere. And amazingly, it can help find a document from many years ago that contains the needed information. X1 saves me a lot of time, prevents frustration, and boosts my efficiency. I know of no other search function that works nearly as fast and thoroughly. A second aspect of X1 makes the company significantly more valuable. Sometimes, I need help to understand an anomaly that defied explanation. The head of support, Chris Weakley, is fantastic. He responds almost always within a day with practical and sometimes surprising solutions. Recently, several XLS files wouldn’t sort properly (by date of last usage), defying all logical explanation. In this case, deleting the entire index and reindexing resolved the issue, though it took the computer almost 24 hours to completely rebuild the index file. Somehow, my system had corrupted several files. The customer service X1 provides is a model all other companies should strive to match. In short, X1 is easy to install, easy to implement and use, and provides excellent customer support. It integrates well with the Microsoft Suite and so many products. It is my workhorse. **What do you dislike about X1 Search?** I like the product and all interactions with Customer Service. I can find information fast. I was introduced to X1 at a customer 15 years ago with a great presentation covering the differences between Filers and searchers. Not only are filers grossly inefficient but given the growth of information filing becomes a pointless exercise (imagine if Google tried 'filing' the internet). I gave up all but the most basic of filing backthen because X1 was the tool that worked for me. Over the years I have tried many difference solutions and nothing comes close to performance, ease of use and results. On the rare occasion I have needed it the customer support is amazing. **What do you dislike about X1 Search?** When indexing it can max CPU and make my laptop fan loud. Sadly, X1 has designed their product to require a constant and consistent internet connection that persists for hours without any interruptions. This type of connection is impossible on todays internet, even over direct, fiber connection like our firm's. Moreover, X1 makes a separate request to OneDrive servers for each and every file that OneDrive holds, ONE AT A TIME--making an initial index creation almost impossible. I have worked with X1 support for 10 months on this issue, but they refuse, or are not capable, of redesigning the product. The issue arises because if a user has more than a couple of thousand files no initial index can be created. Our firm has about 200k files and while all local files are indexed properly, OneDrive in the cloud will never be indexed by X1. Hence, X1 is not compatible with X1 and their OneDrive data source claim is at best only partially true, or a fantasy. It's sad because X1 is such a great product, but they have not kept up the migration into the cloud for documents. **What problems is X1 Search solving and how is that benefiting you?** None, it does not support OneDrive indexing. ### 15. As long as you remember just a few details about a long-lost file, you can find it. I have been able to find stuff from literally 20 years ago with X1 Search. I literally use it every day. It supports search by subject, sender, recipient, date range, but most importantly, by text within the body of the message. It's also proved extremely helpful in finding files, again supporting search by title, type, date-range and text in the document, including pdf. This can be a life-saver. But the reason I'm writing this review is to note the extraordinary response to a support question that I received from X1 Customer Care Representative Chris Wheaton. He provided an explanation of why my problem was occurring, and the remedy. He did this in a remarkably clear and helpful way. He then went on to provide recommendations about configuration changes that would benefit me (I'd send a zip produced by X1's diagnostic tool). He outshone any support person I've worked with previously. Very slow network indexing. Does not break network indexing and local indexing up. Bugs with network indexing, causing issues if you're on a vpn and get disconnected. Sometimes seems to get stuck indexing a large file. Development cycle is very slow (1-2 builds per year?), so bugs persist for a very long time. Does not index Sharepoint (does run searches remotely). Does not index Confluence. Support is responsive, but solutions are not forthcoming. Again, either I do not understand what to do here; or, what I have been directed to do is not the right solution. If I have to pay more for Telephone Support I WILL PAY EXTRA for Telephone Support. It's one of the few programs I've found that will search for data embedded within hundreds of different file formats. You just select the network shares, local folders and outlook files want to add the index, and forget about it. From there you can filter the search results in a multitude of ways - file type, date, filename, size, source etc. **What do you dislike about X1 Search?** I can't really think of much I would change about the software. Whenever I've had problems with the software, customer support has always been responsive, even if you don't subscribe to the $19.95/year for premium support. In a perfect world, all of your materials are appropriately filed in the right folders but we don't live in a perfect world. Being able to quickly bring up X1 Search and find what you need in an expeditious manner and then being able to manipulate it as you need saves times and effort. I cannot relay how many times materials we thought were lost were located by X1. **What do you dislike about X1 Search?** Given my experience with similar products, including those "built" into provided operating systems and software, I do not find any component lacking. All too often ourselves with an immediate need to locate and retrieve key materials. You open up X1 and search for emails, plug in the first three letters of your name into the FROM column, the first three letters of his name in the 'TO:" column, add the name of the client in the search field, and all related emails sent from you to him pop up in a list. So you say "I see where I sent you that email June 18th at 8;32 AM. Let me forward another copy to you." And from within X1, you click on 'Forward" and re-send him a copy of the email. I used to sort and store all incoming emails by topic, but sometimes you can't decide whether the topic is 'Sales meeting issues' or 'AT&T Projects'. Now I don't move any emails to special places. I just mark them read, and if I need to go back to them, X1 finds them in seconds. My company does not pay for this product. I paid for it out of my own pocket because I know it will save me hours of time each year and lots of frustration trying to find things in my PC. And it's the only App I pay an annual support fee for because when it crashes, I NEED to get it running again. **What problems is X1 Search solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lost emails, lost files. I'll accidentally save a file incorrectly, either with a spelling issue in the file name or I'll accidentally save it in the wrong folder. X1 is a life saver in finding things. ### 44.
