The default menu arrangement is quite complex and not well arranged. Also sometimes bugs have also been experienced whenusing the software. This are making the workflow slow and laggy.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is keeping us to be tracked about all our websites and web activities. We are able to keep everything well organised and properly managed, with proper paper work and documentation. Also using it to develop and design webpages and portals for the web service and digital marketing expansion. Scaling our business with the help of this.

  ### 3. Easy-to-use tool for content managers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anahit A. | Copywriter/ Content Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

As a content manager, I find using Wagtail simple. I like that it’s fast, and you can create and manage workflows. The CMS enables high performance for our website, which has a lot of pages. Another great thing is that the tool works well on mobile.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

There are limits for non-developers. I couldn't find ready-to-use templates to build pages without the help of the technical team. That's perhaps the main disadvantage for me.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps with its high performance and the ability to customize pages.

  ### 4. Good system with a lot of potential

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Business Supplies and Equipment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

what the upsides of wagtail are that it is flexible, you can do customizations and that it has a security feature that protects against common attacks. and there are no licensing fees

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

that it is limited to python programming language and that a developer is needed to maintain the website

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

switching from an old to a new cms system and it helped a lot with customizations

  ### 5. Wagtail Does Content & Presentation The Best

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Principal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

Wagtail enables us to deliver a beautiful website that looks so much better than any of the common "clone-looking websites". But specifically we choose Wagtail because it has a good data model. If you go with any of the very common out-of-the-box websites, and look under the hood, you realize the data model is missing -- and that ANY functionality ou need is entirely achieved through coding logic via plugins. Which is extremely brittle.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

The plugin ecosystem is not there like some other common platforms. However, given that Wagtail is on Python/Django, that's not really such a big problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Divio, out of Switzerland, is a fantastic Wagtail hosting specialist. Their service is fantastic. They are affordable. And super reliable. And SayOne, out of Kochi, Kerala, does great Wagtail development. SayOne is also a partner of Divio.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted a publishing platform, where the density was higher than normal (a masonry-style model) and where the graphics handling was top notch.

  ### 6. A pleasure to use for BOTH developers and editors

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David F. | Senior Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

Wagtail is great because it doesn't have the bloat and clunkiness of some of the alternatives. The Django core makes it a pleasure to use and build sites.

I really like the way data is stored in the database and just how customisable the whole package is, especially with Snippets and Streamfields.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

There are only 2 downsides coming from a WordPress background:

1) There is no easy solution to creating and managing menus. Of course, there are packages to help and perhaps eventually this will be addressed in the Wagtail's core
2) Hosting a Python application is not as straightforward (or cheap!) as hosting a PHP application.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Definitely give it a try! I found the easiest way to try it out was to create a Docker container

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With WordPress seemingly changing direction to be more of a competitor with Squarespace and Wix, Wagtail is emerging as a nice open-source solution and is a great offering for companies that need to provide clients with a CMS they can easily use without having to be designers themselves!

  ### 7. A brilliant CMS for beginners and experts alike

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan M. | Game Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

It's so intuitive and user-friendly. We used it for our blog and every staff member grasped it straight away. It has helped us take our website to the next level.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

I've not got much to complain about; probably the only thing is that the interface could be made a little bit quicker to navigate, not that it's laid out badly, but sometimes I find myself doing something in five clicks that could maybe be done in three.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with a range of people, some of whom aren't very tech-savvy, Wagtail has been an excellent CMS for helping everyone feel comfortable and confident when making changes to the site.

  ### 8. A versatile service for building a website and landing pages

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian N. | Director of Marketing and Social Media, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

Wagtail has allowed us to add components and pages to our business website that will interface with our custom products in a way other services like WordPress and Shopify just cannot. The page builder tools are straightforward and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

There is a learning curve and without a developer, this would be a difficult tool to use. That said, once you know your way around, it's great. I also dislike the fact that sometimes I don't have options for some types of content blocks that I do have for others, mostly with regards to text formatting and layout.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Have a vision of where you want your website and landing pages to go, and what structure you want them to be. From there, make sure you have the developer experience to build content blocks and templates within wagtail to make for easy duplication and editing or have a developer who is well-versed in Wagtail do so for you.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've been able to migrate pages we originally created in WordPress as well as create a new blog hub page and new product cards to increase our conversion rate on our website. Wagtail has also allowed for our developer to set up content block templates so that myself and other marketing assistants can easily build new landing pages without needing to have coding experience.

  ### 9. The ONLY CMS I would recommend

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Umair A. | Founder & CEO, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

Just a quick overview. I have worked for years with other CMS's based on PHP, Java, and Django. Wagtail is the only CMS that I would recommend, and here is why:

- anything you can do in Django, you can do in Wagtail, and more
- if you have non-technical web content editors, then the Wagtail interface makes it easy for them to do their work in a beautiful and simple interface. Trust me, we have built many websites and provided zero training to web content editors, and they were just able to pick it up right away
- you can use it as a headless CMS to store all your content and use any front-end framework
- some of the old complaints here on documentation have already been addressed a long time ago. There is more robust documentation available for folks and a healthy StackOverflow community
- as long as you understand the idea that Wagtail if a super solid and beautiful framework that you can build anything upon, you will be happy. The key is you have to make it. It doesn't come with a lot of fluff pre-built, and that is what I, as a developer, truly enjoy

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

The dislikes are few to none, but if I had to pick a few:
- not strictly Wagtail but also Django-related is hosting. You can't easily find a fully managed $5/mo hosting platform like some other PHP frameworks. You would have to program the platform on your own or use some pre-built packages. The cheapest I was able to find was $10/month on Divio

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

An open-source solution that allows us to build apps without relying on different frameworks for different purposes. In other words, a single platform that serves all your website and app needs.

  ### 10. A non-developer's Wagtail experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kirsten S. | Producer

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

The simple, intuitive user interface is refreshing. As a non-developer Wagtail user, I find it really easy to navigate and manage website updates.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

Although the user interface is intuitive and straightforward, I think it could do with a refresh. There are some really slick-looking CMS around that might not be as good functionally, but they look fab, which is sometimes more of a drawcard than it should be for clients.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we're pitching for new projects with clients who aren't sold on Wagtail as their website CMS, it's great to show them the administration area of Wagtail and explain how easy it is to manage their website and make updates themselves.

A lot of potential clients have been hesitant to have to be responsible for doing content entry and making updates to their sites but feel a lot more confident when they see how simple it can be in Wagtail. When they're used to something like Wordpress, the idea of learning something new can be daunting, but it's easy to show them that there is a better alternative that they don't need to be afraid to jump into!

  ### 11. Brilliant CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom S. | Software developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

- Easy to use for both developers and non-technical users alike
- Lots of built-in features making it relatively simple to build complex sites
- Highly customisable, so if any features you'd like aren't already included they can generally be added without too much difficulty
- Very detailed documentation

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

- Limited frontend features compared to some other CMSs, although this is perhaps to be expected as Wagtail is a Django-based CMS

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building feature-rich Django sites that are easily used by non-technical staff to add and update pages, which is made very simple by using Wagtail

  ### 12. An easy to use Python-based CMS

Producing content-based websites for mulitple companies across different industries.

  ### 13. Wagtail is great!

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

It contains lots of functionality and feels comprehensive overall

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

It can sometimes be complicated to use/steep learning curve

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 17. Great CMS for Django

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

A little slow at times. The text and formatting options are disciplined, sometimes over restrictive.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Wagtail for creating general websites which need extra enhancements

  ### 18. Great concept

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

- clear concept
- friendly UI
- speed fast
- on-the-fly form
- nice built-in model (page, image, document)
- SEO support
- streamfield
- hooks

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

- quite poor documentation
- not so many built-in functions which support model handling
- revision

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Use Wagtail when you need a CMS for your Django project

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The documentation is clean and clear, however, it's not enough for a beginner to find out the strength of Wagtail.
Because we can integrate Wagtail into Django, I'm happy to have an admin panel to control components. Wagtail is strong in building workflow, we can easily work with frontend, backend and database without any concerns.

  ### 19. The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Wagtail

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

In my 10+ years of experience as a web developer Wagtail is hands down the best CMS I've ever used or worked on. We've been using Wagtail in production for about a year in an organization with an annual budget of 4M. I thought winning over the content editors would be a challenge, instead they turned into huge advocates after the initial training.

But to leverage its full potential you really need to agree with the philosophy behind the technology. I've read other Wagtail reviews with the complaint that editors "cannot update the HTML code". This is by design. The philosophy (named The Zen of Wagtail) is in my opinion the best part of the CMS. You can read the official details here (http://docs.wagtail.io/en/latest/getting_started/the_zen_of_wagtail.html).

But to summarize:

The CMS should get content out of an admin/editors head and into a database as effortlessly as possible, the designer should call the shots on how things look (with html/css), and the programmer should be using a programming language (not a user interface).

That philosophy sounds basic: make things efficient for all roles involved. But it has lead to design decisions for how the CMS works that are just brilliant.

From an editor standpoint it is a dream come true. Every entry screen is custom coded to accept the data they need to enter. Custom data entry screens means the editor can make fast work of the task. And the editors I work with all agree that they really like this kind of system.

From a technology standpoint, this puts the programmer in control of a modern MVC platform that is designed to get stuff done quickly. And they get to use all the tools they're familiar with (git, python, database migrations, unit tests, etc).

The way the custom entry screens for the editors are built produce two outcomes: 1. they are ridiculously easy to build and 2. they keep all the design files (html/css) in a place that lets the designers modify them with ease. (We have web designers that do layout work.)

By recognizing the three roles and requiring them to work efficiently you get a race car of a CMS.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

Wagtail is a relative new comer, and even a year ago I was afraid it was more of a toy than a mature software product. I'm convinced that it is not a toy. And the problems that it solves are solved extremely well. However, being new means there isn't the plethora of pre-built components that are available from the PHP counterparts. The Awesome Wagtail list is okay (https://github.com/springload/awesome-wagtail) but I really wish there was an equivalent to wordpress.org/plugins.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Wagtail is different from other popular CMSs, you need to reframe your thinking into the three roles: editor, designer, and programmer. Each role has tools to do their job very efficiently. One person can do/be all three roles and switch between them as needed. However, you need all three roles, including a programmer. If you don't have a programmer you need to find one. Or if you want to just click buttons in your browser to build a website then Wagtail is not for you.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our business revolves around content creation and delivery. We've been able to increase the amount of content we can publish without needing to increase the team size. We also completed three very creative projects that we were previously understaffed to complete before the switch. We saw a big upswing in traffic through those projects and management informs me they were very successful.

Because we switched to python we are also integrating machine learning (TensorFlow) into our search systems that we would have only been able to dream about in our old system. This should further reduce labor, increase our capability, and integrate seamlessly into our wagtail search system.

  ### 20. Flexible and easy-to-use CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simon F. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

The streamfields feature radically simplifies the job of designing templates. You don't have to do so much work in advance, you can just create flexible page types and add the content you need. The interface itself is quick and enjoyable to use.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

As with any CMS there are a few features we wish were already included such as it being less possible for one user to overwrite another users's changes, etc (in my mind two editors shouldn't be able to open a page at once).

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Like any open source software the support is, of course, dependent on community, or the skill / focus of the agency you use to build and maintain your site. Get a good agency!

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Wagtail we were able to develop and launch a site within 40 days, which I think says it all.

  ### 21. Fun to use

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

User friendly CMS, all the features you want, good layout and formatting. It is a fun platform to use if you're into coding and open source programming.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

Could be confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy! Can appear not using friendly, which can be a good thing because it is trying to attract a certain client/customer/user.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

Do it only if you know open source, otherwise it will be too difficult and you should use another platform like Squarespace or Wix. If you like coding and open source platforms, use it! You will not be disappointed.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped create and manage our website which in turn helps business. The layout looks great and we have gotten a lot of compliments on our website. It has helped our customers find information faster, quicker, more efficient, and with ease.

  ### 26. Customizable for developers but mediocre usability

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley S. | Front End Developer, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2016

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

I like that as a developer, I can create a custom content management experience for each of our clients. It is fairly easy to create new fields in the code.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

While the backend is fairly easy to configure, the user interface is challenging for a non technical user to edit. Some of the functionality is hidden, like changing the page order and choosing a new page could potentially be confusing to a user since there can be many options to choose from. Also the rich text editor inside of wagtail is mediocre. Users cannot update the HTML code and it will add unnecessary paragraph tags, which leads to some headaches for our team.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business problem we are solving is how to allow users to edit their website without interfering with our development schedule. Since the development team can add a variety of fields to the CMS, it is easy for internal users to change out photos or links without having to get into the code base.

  ### 27. My favourite django cms

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

It is a great piece of work goldarn it! Use it please. From the initial set up process it is fast, in fact there really isn't much you can't do if you set your mind to it. I primarily use it to create a help section for a website and it has been breeze, adding and image is simple, formatting them just as simple. And it looks and feels great when your using it.

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

The only downside that I can see so far is there is a steep learning curve if you want to do any real development, I haven't really done much development using Wagtail, but I have watched others and I think once you become comfortable with things like the terminal and template languages it would be fine, but until then quite hard.

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

If you haven't worked with the terminal and template languages, and template hierarchy then get a developer to set all this up for you.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am creating a help section for a website, so my main role is content management, adding videos and step by step guides. I have found this process to very straightforward and manageable as a WordPress developer.

  ### 28. Lovely CMS built for Django developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

How easy it is for developers to set up your page structures and how flexible it is (by extending Django).

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

I love most parts of Wagtail, there is only a few minor dislike and that was justified by the developers (not opening links in a new tab).

**Recommendations to others considering Wagtail CMS:**

It's a great CMS, would totally recommend (for Django developers)

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having an easy-to-use and flexible content managed website.

  ### 29. New open source CMS worth considering

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Wagtail CMS?**

Wagtail has been developed with the web manager in mind. It helps simplify the management of complex websites.

Thought has gone into everything from how Wagtail features are labelled to predictive text for image searches. All these little things help to save time. From an interface point of view, I'd liken the design to being something Apple may produce.

I find some of the well established CMS solutions cumbersome, slow and confusing. Bolt-ons and extra modules make the experience far from seamless and bug ridden. The website we had before was built on Concrete 5 and we had many problems. With Wagtail there may have been one ... or even two in a year. But nothing more. This gives confidence in the robustness of the code base.

I also like the fact that new and exciting websites are being built on it., like: http://www.destinationspace.uk/ .

**What do you dislike about Wagtail CMS?**

With it being a new open source CMS, people can be wary about using it. But there's a strong support community building up. And if you look on GitHub, there's plenty of action around the platform (be warned, only go there if you are a developer!)

For the less technically minded, you can see some of the sites that have been built on it here: http://madewithwagtail.org/

It's built on Django, so there should be plenty of people around who can quickly learn how it works, if needed. A number of digital agencies have embraced the CMS already.

**What problems is Wagtail CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I launched a website using this CMS one year ago and it has performed above expectations and we've seen site visits more the double to over one million. So it's more than proved itself to be Google friendly and technically robust.

I'm also told that due to the way Wagtail is created it takes around 20% less time to build with than Drupal. So there could be some big revenue savings.
