### 2. Effortless Webpage Editing, Highly Recommended

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan K.

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I appreciate how Umbraco streamlines the process of editing webpages by being quick and easy to use. This is incredibly beneficial, especially since I often prefer not to spend too much time on website updates. The user-friendly interface ensures that I can make last-minute changes to keep the website up to date without any hassle. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy, which further enhanced my experience with Umbraco. Overall, these features make Umbraco a tool I confidently recommend to others.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I find that Umbraco could benefit from providing more tools for editing the color, text font, and graphics of the website.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco keeps my website up to date effortlessly, with its user-friendly interface allowing for quick and easy edits, even last-minute changes.

 ### 3. CMS with composability at the center

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saku K. | Frontend Developer & UI/UX Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

The extensibility. You can make pretty much whole apps inside the backoffice itself.

That its all just a .NET MVC project, so it's very easy to get started with, if you've used that prior.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

That the only non-sqlite database engine supported is SQL Server. Postgres would be much wanted and would make more sense for a free and open source project.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It lets me create user friendly websites fast, not only for the user but for the content maintainers too. It makes the 0 to 80 process lightning fast.

 ### 4. The best CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Flexibility. Only creativity is the limit.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Migrations are hard to sell to non-technical customers.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not limiting development.

 ### 5. Horrible Page Layout Tools Despite Solid Multi-Instance Hosting and Previews

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I love that it can host multiple instances for companies that have worldwide operations and need pages localized to regions. I like that it offers a preview of the pages you're working on before publishing.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The layout to create pages is HO RRI BLE, there is no room for padding, aligning things to avoid having huge dead spaces.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's allowing us to have content localized is multiple regions, allowing us to translate content smoothly.

**Official Response from Niels Laursen:**

> Thanks for taking the time to share this. We really appreciate the balanced perspective.
It’s great to hear that the multi-instance setup and preview functionality are working well for you. Supporting localized content across regions is something many teams rely on Umbraco for, so we’re glad that part of the experience is delivering value.

At the same time, we hear your frustration around the page layout experience. Editor usability and flexibility are critical, and when layouts feel restrictive or result in awkward spacing, that directly impacts day-to-day work. In Umbraco, a lot of the layout behavior is shaped by how the site’s blocks, components, and grid structure are set up during the build phase. That means the editing experience can vary significantly depending on how the solution has been implemented and structured.

Thanks again for the honest feedback. It helps us continue improving both the product and the guidance we provide around building great editor experiences.

 ### 6. Simple to use yet powerful and extensible

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

The interface is clean, well-organised, structured and responsive, making it straightforward to navigate and use. Despite the outward simplicity (which is a boon for editors), the CMS offers deep customisation and extensibility for developers and administrators, allowing tailored solutions and integrations to be developed whilst keeping the CMS accessible to less technically minded users. Set up and implementation is a breeze, enabling sites to get up and running quickly.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The documentation can sometimes be inconsistent and hard to follow, although this has improved somewhat with more recent versions.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a solid, reliable website while also incorporating novel solutions for a number of niche business cases, and Umbraco's flexibility and extensibility has allowed us to have the 'best of both worlds' in a single platform.

 ### 7. User-Friendly, Flexible, and Still Growing Better

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I really like about Umbraco is how comfortable it feels to work with. I’ve been using it from version 8 all the way to 13, and the thing that always makes me appreciate it is how even non-technical people can pick it up so easily. The back-office is clean, simple, and just makes sense. The headless features have been super helpful in my projects, and it handles media really smoothly. Plus, the packages available make it easy to add whatever extra functionality we need without hassle

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

If there’s one thing I find a bit challenging with Umbraco, it’s the upgrade path from older versions to the latest LTS. It can take some extra care to move all the content smoothly. And occasionally, a few packages I rely on aren’t available right away for the newer versions, so that can slow things down a little.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco really helps with managing large amounts of content and media without making things feel heavy or complicated. The Umbraco Cloud has been a big benefit too — moving content between environments becomes so much easier, and the built-in security features give a lot more confidence while working

 ### 8. Definitely a friendly CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Graeme M. | Technical Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

1. Developers Actually Enjoy It
Umbraco really nails that sweet spot between giving developers freedom and providing just enough structure to keep them on track. The clean API and open design mean we can build exactly what's needed without fighting the system. It's a win-win, whether you're running an agency or part of a product team.

2. Content Editing That's a Breeze
Honestly, our content editors genuinely love using Umbraco. The interface is so intuitive that whether it's a simple small business site or one of our big enterprise builds, the experience is consistently smooth. I spend way less time on training, and even people who aren't tech-savvy can handle tricky content with confidence.

3. Open Source Done Right
It's the best of both worlds with Umbraco: you get all the support and innovation from the open-source community, plus the solid backing of Umbraco HQ. That means professional support is there when you need it, and you can actually trust their roadmap for future development.

4. Plays Nicely with Everything
I've never had a headache trying to connect Umbraco to our existing tools. Thanks to its .NET foundation, integrating with CRMs, marketing platforms, data stores, or custom APIs is straightforward.

5. Built to Last
The sites we build on Umbraco tend to stick around on Umbraco. It's a stable, extensible platform with a clear release strategy and roadmap. I have some sites that have been with Umbraco for over 10 years - it is a platform that can grow with your business and adapt to changing markets.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

1. There is a Learning Curve
If you're coming from WordPress or other simpler CMSs, Umbraco can feel a bit overwhelming at first. It's definitely more developer-focused, which means your team needs to have some technical skills to get the most out of it.

2. The Marketplace Feels a Bit Sparse
Compared to WordPress's massive plugin ecosystem, Umbraco's package directory can feel quite limited. Sometimes you end up building functionality from scratch that would be a simple plugin install elsewhere. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean more development time and budget for features you might take for granted on other platforms.

That said, one of the selling points of Umbraco is its opensource community - if you get stuck on something there will be people who have been in the same situation to call upon

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest headaches I used to face was deployment issues hitting at the worst possible times.

Picture this: it's 6pm on a Friday, we need to push a bug fix, and suddenly there's a critical issue with an Umbraco Cloud deployment for one of our US clients. In the past, I'd either have to wait until Monday for proper support or try to muddle through myself, which isn't ideal when there is a bug on the client's site down.

Umbraco's recent move to open a support desk in the USA has been a game-changer for us. Now I've got extended support hours that actually align with when things tend to go wrong. If there's an issue at after 4pm UK time, there's someone on the other side of the Atlantic who can help sort it out properly, rather than me losing sleep or leaving clients hanging.

 ### 9. Easy to use, extensive, open source

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It's easy to use and understand for new developers. Open source. Great extensibility. Good community

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Db is hard to navigate.
Minor things missing with upgrades, like right click..

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing the developers to only focus on creating good schemas and functionality, while allowing the client to fill in the content

 ### 10. Flexible, scalable, and truly the “Friendliest CMS” available.

The software does a great job displaying the current groups benefit plans to employees and family members to allow them to make informed decisions regarding their benefit elections

 ### 33. User-Friendly and Flexible Platform for Editors and Developers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** DEVIKA R. | I am a Freelancer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like that Umbraco is very user-friendly and flexible. Content editors can update pages easily without technical skills, and as a developer, I appreciate how customizable everything is.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

One thing I dislike is that Umbraco has a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, especially around Document Types and content structure.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco solves the problem of complex content management. It makes it easy for editors to update pages without technical skills, which saves time and reduces dependence on developers.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew T. | Digital Systems Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I love that it is so straight forward, it's easy to build new pages, forms and configure them in a way that looks and feels slick for an end user. There are many points of integration that our developers utilise. I use Umbraco every single day and the support offered by Prodo is very thorough.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I don't like that it can sometimes feel restrictive. Whether that's due to how it's locked down by our developers who provide our environment I'm unsure but the way in which some of the repairs and diagnostics pathways can be difficult to configure.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We develop our resident self-service portal and application through Umbraco. As a social housing provider it is important that we have the flexibility from Umbraco to reflect any changes necessary due to internal changes that happen with very little notice

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**
