I love how intuitive the drag-and-drop interface is for building visualizations. You can go from raw data to a pretty polished dashboard without writing much code. The variety of chart types and the way it handles blending multiple data sources is also a big plus. And once you get the hang of calculated fields and parameters, it's really flexible for more advanced analysis too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Tableau? It gets expensive fast, especially once you're licensing it across a team. Performance can also lag with really large datasets or complex dashboards, so you end up spending time optimizing extracts just to keep things snappy. And version control/collaboration on workbooks is clunky compared to more modern tools. There's no great way to track changes or work on the same dashboard simultaneously with someone else. It's mainly solving the problem of turning messy, scattered data into something people can actually understand and act on quickly. Instead of digging through spreadsheets or waiting on someone to run a report, I can build a dashboard once and let people self-serve their own answers. That's saved a lot of back-and-forth time, and it's made it easier to spot trends or issues early since the data's visual instead of buried in rows and columns. I primarily use Tableau for teaching data visualization and dashboarding in my university classes. I find it to be a great bridge between technical skills like SQL and Python and the more intuitive and hands-on side of analytics where communication and design matter. I particularly like how immediate everything is because of the drag and drop feature, which lowers the barrier to entry and keeps students engaged early on.
