What do you like best about Screenly?

I have not used Screenly for a few years. This review is written from my perspective of what it was like when we used to use it.

Screenly was simple and straightforward. We simply just had to upload our images for the slide show and schedule them. Once the schedule was created, it was assigned to displays and we were ready to rock. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Screenly?

Screenly did not have many presentation templates to use. Therefore, this caused us to export a PowerPoint presentation as images and then put them into a schedule. This proved to be time consuming and involved many steps. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Screenly solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about Screenly?

Extremely easy to use and customize, very powerful solution for a centralized, affordable digital signage solution. Incredibly versatile for any number of solutions such as: Static digital advertising, document display requirements, mobile digital signage, projector signage, multi-screen signage, digital postboards, internal news and advertisements, and many many more. The pro version lacks SOME features, but I'm told that the pro version is continuously being upgraded and I will continue to test this version until it meets our requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Screenly is an awesome product; here are some notes about both versions:

Pro version Pros:

Centrally managed, extremely easy to use, easy to implement, cost-effective, centralized control interface

Pro version Cons:

No customizable branding, no access to underlying OS, access control is lacking

OSE version Pros:

Fully customizable branding - IF you're comfortable with Linux, access to underlying OS which means limitless possibilities (we've even installed music players on it), access control can be maintained effectively

OSE version Cons:

No central interface (we found a workaround for this), support is best-effort basis Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Screenly solving and how is that benefiting you?

Screenly has helped us solve a long-running issue of needing an affordable, centralized, easy to use digital signage solution. With Screenly, we have implemented a centralized, easily maintainable and affordable digital signage display across our portfolio of properties. We've used Screenly for TVs in static locations, mobile TV displays with LTE / 4G modems and USB sticks, offline displays, projectors, and for an internal NOC screen. We are working on using Screenly for a large multi-screen display for substantially less cost than any other solutions. I highly recommend checking out Screenly in both pro and OSE to see which works best for you, as both have drawbacks and benefits, and both are excellent products. The best part about it all? "Easy to Use Digital Signage Solution"

What do you like best about Screenly?

1. The process to install and setup Screenly Pro is fairly simple, even if you're not an IT expert. The Screenly OSE (Open Source Edition) is also nice, but does require a bit more work to setup.

2. The web-based interface for managing assets, playlists, and screens is easy to use.

3. The wide variety of assets which can be displayed (images, videos, web pages) makes it easy to create a variety of content which is both entertaining and informative.

4. The advanced screen settings are handy in case you need to customize a particular setting to meet your needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Screenly?

Nothing in particular. However, if your sign plays a lot of videos or runs continuously, you may want to add a cooling fan to your Raspberry Pi as it can get quite warm. This isn't the fault of Screenly of course. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Screenly solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have one of the only digital signs which is accessible to the blind and visually impaired. We use Google Slides to manage content such as schedules, lunch menus, and photo slideshows, etc. We place a QR code in the upper right corner of each slide which when scanned opens the slide in the Google Slides app or a web browser. After we publish the Slides presentation to the web, we import the URL as an asset in Screenly and add it to playlists for display. This enables our staff and students who are blind or visually impaired to be able to access content on our digital sign. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
