Every time I demo the set up in sanity I am met with very happy clients. The ability to configure the structure and layout of the inputs and documents makes it so easy to design a system that fits the mental model for the project. That along with the ability to create custom inputs quite easily allows us to create a custom experience for the client that makes it way more intuitive. The ease of use and ease of implementation has made me always go to this as a solution first. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** I wish it was easier to get the referenced content when running a groq query. It would be nice to have a way to say when I'm querying something like say the block element that might have references to other documents within it to not have to dig into the query to get the reference but instead just say always give me everything recursively. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's solving my need for a good system to manage content that will be used in various different contexts. I often work across web and mobile in having something that is very data eccentric makes it much easier to do that. ### 3. The desk tool is excellent but very difficult to customise to display the correct information in the right way for your content creators. I see that there are some new tutorials which ( I will admit I have not completed) have helped somewhat in understanding how to customise from a learners perspective. This doesn't reflect poorly on Sanity, but it’s an annoyance when working with clients unfamiliar with its capabilities. Haha. Another minor downside is that Sanity lacks a multi-select feature for array fields. Additionally, the absence of a built-in sorting selection for array fields can be a little confusing to users. These are relatively small issues in the grand scheme of things, though, and don’t detract significantly from how powerful and flexible the platform is overall. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** My clients need robust, customizable content management systems that seamlessly connect to their websites. Since then I have used Sanity for all my clients and, with the easy customisation, have had compliments on how easy the studio is to use, even if the person isn't that tech orientated. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** While the guidance and docs for simple tasks like setup and schema creation is simple and easy to use, I think they could be improved for more complicated tasks, like studio customisation or live preview. For these things, I normally would have to use a forum or 3rd party instructions. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a freelancer, I don't want to be managing the content on my websites. So I chose for a more dynamic content approach and Sanity was the clear outstander in that field. The fact that the entire studio structure can be customized is also a big plus, which eases the use for content writers and lets us organize documents however we want. It is also great to integrate with NextJS with documentation often written with NextJS in mind. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to complex schemas that go beyond just primitives, especially for content blocks. While content blocks allow us to implement our own custom nodes (which is very nice), it can sometimes feel a bit scary/unstable to add our custom definitions and query them appropriately. GROQ querying is also something that can be scary, especially for type-safe environments. Though Sanity has recently started working on automatic type inference from GROQ queries, I think it still has some work to be done. As the Head of Engineering for a digital agency, I've worked with tens of CMS' over the past 16 years, and nothing comes close to the feeling of clicking things on your website and changing them. Sanity gives you this super power as a table stake, and then so much more. I also love the flexibility to change the CMS as needed. I can add entirely new field types, change the UI of existing field types, and even replace entire sections of the CMS with my own code. It gives me a turnkey CMS with amazing feature that gets out of the way when I need it to. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** The media library is lacking compared to other CMS. It needs a better integration into the core product, as picking media and setting meta data is quite clunky. It also doesn't have folders, relying only on tags. And you can't set tags on an image when adding it to a document easily. The relatively standardised interface allows it to focus on the end-user functionality instead of the authoring experience. Implementation definitely requires a developer, but is straight-forward. The flexible structure allowed us to use Sanity not only for web content, but also for product data mangement (with a relatively complex product/variant model), store management, etc. The combination of webhooks and GROQ (the query language) allows it to be integrated super easily to other systems (e.g. using Zapier or any other tool). **What do you dislike about Sanity?** There is a plan between Growth and Enterprise missing. Some features (e.g. roles) are only available for enterprise plans. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** All our content (product data, store data, web content) is managed in a centralised Sanity instance, which allows us to reuse the same content across all our platform. Client training has almost become an after thought if needed at all with customisable validation and custom components allowing for specific interfaces suitable for the use case. Recent additions such as Sanity Live have been a god send in avoiding the old it's Cached client experience. With Sanitys almost limitless potential and application flexibility I see this continuing to be our Goto for years to come. The customizable CMS that comes with Sanity is fantastic. It is open source and can be modified to suit our needs nicely. The features within Sanity such as the CDN, asset management, plugins make it so nice to customize everything for our clients. The Sanity team is constantly adding new features and upgrades. They do an incredible job adding more and more value to their product. They listen to their customers and respond to any issues quickly. With the community support along with Sanity's team you can always find help as well as code snippets or plugins for almost anything you need to do. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** So far, I haven't run into anything that I haven't been able to accomplish. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** A CMS system that is engineer-friendly to build schemas and a CMS that editors like to use. The studio allows me to customize for every client. Sanity feels like a developer first CMS, always taking feedback and improving. Having typings created directly for the rest of the application is perfect. I love that you are able to add back to the community so easily as well! When something can break our build pipeline this has a big impact. Not having daily backups is a huge negative for us. The iterations and updates over the years (we have been using it since the very early releases) have always remained focused on making the developer experience simple and easy. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** You will need to arrive at your own solution to kiosk/no Internet situations. Sanity makes very little assumptions about the type of content you need to create, and allows for easy creation of content types and interface structure. The onboarding by the Sanity team was very well done too. A number of sessions were organised to showcase several features of the editing experience for both content editors as well as developers. This made for a smooth integration into our application landscape. Our content editors are now using it on a daily basis much to their liking, and we will enjoy working with Sanity in the future as well. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** Since Sanity doesn't make any assumptions about the content or data in the system, you have to think about a number of cases yourself. While this may sound as a bit of a downside, it also allows you (or even forces you) to make some very deliberate and thoughtful choices regarding your content, structure and interface configuration, making for a better editing experience in the end. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sanity offers both a user and developer oriented platform, which is fairly unique position in the market. I like to use groq. It is a simple and easy-to-understand query language. A lot of data can be retrieved with a query without the need for post-processing. I often write migrations for content. I like the new migrations interface, it's simple. Everything works very quickly. Sometimes I write a query and think about how long it's going to be because I'm transferring my experience with relational databases. But no, the queries are fast, although the amount of data that is returned in the response can be very large. Working with the studio is also a joy. You create document models, and the user interface structure, and you're all set. I've heard that Sanity has good tech support, but I've always had enough documentation to solve problems. Working with Sanity is my secondary responsibility. Despite this, the tools the company provides are simple and powerful, my decisions don't suffer for my lack of expertise in the field. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** It's hard to find something that annoys me as a developer. Once I had to use the studio @internal hook to make the interface reactive ( make a calculated field, basically), even though it seemed to be quite a common functionality. As a software engineer, I appreciated the detailed documentation and resources that helped me quickly learn and leverage Sanity’s full capabilities. The CMS is a powerful tool that allows for a long list of use cases. Live previews and customization options further streamlined our workflow, making it easy to design user-friendly, dynamic pages. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** While there was ample documentation available, there could be more of a learning curve for those who don't know exactly where to start. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sanity allowed us to create highligly customized content when we were limited by our existing tech resources. ### 49. From having a dedicated Slack channel to answer our team's questions to exceptional documentation, our experience has been better than expected. As a developer, the documentation provided by Sanity was instrumental in helping us set up our first studio and integrate it with our front end. I also appreciate Sanity's flexibility in that you can use it out of the box or customize it until it fits your needs. **What do you dislike about Sanity?** Honestly, our team has not encountered any major issues, and if/when we did the Sanity team was always there to help us fix the problem. If I had to pick something, it would be that I wish some of the recent updates had been available when we first started building our studio. There are a few things that would have been nice to have, but not worth the effort to go back in and update as of now. It would also be nice to see some more pre-build templates and examples with the different frameworks. **What problems is Sanity solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem that Sanity is helping our team to solve is being able to update content in real tim without the need for a developer to go in, make code changes, and then have to run a build. This saves our team a lot of time and allows us to focus on other things rather than making small text changes across our sites. ### 50.
