The best thing about PropelAuth is simple: it just works. When you’re dealing with user management and authentication, what you want most is a “quiet” product — something reliable that fades into the background and lets you focus on building your app. PropelAuth delivers that experience across multiple scenarios: from fast integration to advanced features like organization management, SAML SSO, and robust user authentication flows. While the product is already great, I’d love to see more features for complex use cases out of the box. Things like deeper tenant customization, or extended tenant hierarchies for scaling edge-case workflows. But these are nice-to-haves — the core offering is solid and reliable. My startup has pivoted multiple times since using PropelAuth and each pivot has had slightly different auth requirements that would have been a huge time sink if we went with anyone else. Other auth vendors have similar UX to Propel for simple use cases, but nobody can beat them on capabilities. We switched over to PropelAuth from Auth0 as our SSO needs evolved. PropelAuth offers a far simpler solution at a more transparent (and reasonable!) price point.

PropelAuth has an opinionated approach to authentication and authorization. It doesn't have the full customization suite you get from Auth0 but to us that's a feature.

PropelAuth matches up with our environmental separation and makes it easy to configure. Our transition from Auth0 went without a hitch and the team was responsive to work with us to ensure the migration could happen live.

The SSO support and workflow is excellent. The ability to have our clients configure their own SAML providers through an easy to use interface makes secure client onboarding much more straightforward.

PropelAuth is still growing as a product and there are some features that would continue to improve the user experience for our users. This includes things like better customization of pre-built user screens (e.g. disabling magic links, disabling 2FA for SSO users, etc and improved local development environment support (e.g. developing in Safari/Edge). We’re a fast-moving YC-backed startup, and PropelAuth saved us months of engineering time. I think the only downside is that PropelAuth is newer, so the product is changing and evolving quickly. PropelAuth made it easy to implement authentication for our B2B SaaS application that needs to support a single login page for logging into multiple different environments as well as have support for our customers to create API keys to use against our API. While there are many different features within PropelAuth, the basic authentication layer can be used by its self to get things moving, and then the additonal features can be layered on top as they become useful. On top of all that, the fact that we no longer need to worry about implementing support for additional SAML providers and types of multi-factor authentication simplifies our roadmap for keeping authentication into out system modern and secure.
