I really appreciate Patriot Software for its access to data and reporting without having to request it. It offers many helpful and useful reports that meet all of our needs and more. I also found a worker's comp wages report I could use for an audit, which saved me from having to build one. The initial setup was pretty easy, and support resolved a minor hiccup for me. It was easy to set up, and it’s been just as easy to adjust when things change—for example, when state unemployment rates change or when my i401k contributions change. I haven’t run into any downsides so far. Any challenges I’ve had while using it were fully resolved by emailing customer service. Patriot has the most helpful customer service I've ever experienced. They are quick to respond and always friendly. They've helped me with everything from how to get the software to do what I needed to explaining specific payroll tax laws I was confused about.

The only issues I’ve had recently are that it often disconnects from QuickBooks Online, so I’ve had to enter payroll manually into QuickBooks on multiple occasions. They don’t seem to know why this keeps happening. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like how Patriot Software keeps the payroll process simple and easy to figure out. Running payroll literally takes me 5-10 minutes each time, which reduces the overwhelm of the process and ensures that I can focus on important work while our employees are all getting paid on time. I also appreciate that it does all of the calculations for tax withdrawals, does the processing, and makes approving timesheets and paying our employees super simple for me. Sometimes it's hard to get my questions answered about specific things. It would help if there was more explanation about the standard hours because our employees are exempt. I can track payroll and PTO, and use the deductions report to informatively report dollar amounts for our 401k and health savings account. I've always been happy with the customer service, as they are very responsive, whether via chat or phone. They are polite and help me find answers to my questions. Whenever I need to run a report, figure out something more complex like running a second payroll, or address a direct deposit issue, the representatives are helpful. I wish Patriot Software had different levels of access for managers. The initial setup was kind of confusing, especially figuring out state taxes and the requirements for multiple states. We use Patriot for Full-Service Payroll (meaning they also handle our payroll taxes for us) and have the Time and Attendance add-on. We have been using them for about 4 years. I am the office manager for a small office with 5 employees, but my office manager duties are only a portion of what I do and I am always looking for ways to make those duties less work. Prior to switching to Patriot, I used spreadsheets for the payroll and fillable PDF forms for our payroll tax returns. Time cards were kept by hand and had to be added manually. I have been very happy with Patriot since we made the switch. The amount of time I spend on payroll has decreased considerably and I no longer have to worry about math errors on time cards. They also have an app for Apple and Android that can be used for clocking in and out and submitting time cards. This makes things a lot easier and results in more accurate time cards. We also use Patriot to track payments made to independent contractors and are able to generate the 1099s through Patriot and they e-file them for us along with the W-2s and payroll tax returns. While there are some aspects that take a little bit of figuring out, the customer support is excellent. They respond quickly and give me helpful, detailed answers, even walking me through things if necessary. The price structure is quite reasonable and it pays for itself just in the amount of time it saves me. I am able to spend my time on billable tasks rather than overhead. For the most part it is easy to use and there are a lot of good help articles available. And, if I can't find an article that addresses what I need to know, I can contact customer support and they will help me. We also are able to do direct deposit and they have options for how long before payday you want to run your payroll. I opted for the pre-funding option so that I can run my payroll the day before payday. This works great for me as it was what I was already used to doing. As long as I get it submitted by 5:00 PM Pacific Time, it will still do a direct deposit of paychecks the next day. They are also good about including reminders on the dashboard when there are bank holidays coming up that might effect when you need to run the payroll due to bank closures. I also love that it is cloud based, so that I do not have to be in the office to review and approve time cards or run payroll. As long as I have internet, I can run payroll. This is very handy when I want to go on vacation on a payroll week. I have even run payroll from a campground using my cell phone as a hotspot. I wish there was an easier way to do mileage reimbursements. It would be great if I could just input the number of miles an employee needs to be reimbursed for and have Patriot do the calculations on that. It would be even better if the employee could input the mileage log on/with their timesheet. Instead, I had to add it as a money type and then calculate the reimbursement amount myself and enter it manually. I also wish there was a way to automatically give a certain number of hours of vacation accrual per paycheck instead of having to base it on hours worked. I really like how Patriot Software is very easy to use, which saves me a lot of payroll time. Plus, it's completely seamless and works perfectly, so I don't have to worry about doing the taxes. Their customer support is fantastic; they answer my calls within five minutes and are always very helpful. The support staff is knowledgeable and friendly, which makes troubleshooting a pleasant experience. I also appreciate that Patriot Software can be used with QuickBooks, allowing for easy data import using an API. Switching from QuickBooks Payroll to Patriot Software was a great decision because even though it costs a bit more, it's much easier and totally worth the money. I like that Patriot Software is easy to use and fits the size of my business well. It offers the right amount of functionality for a reasonable price, especially compared to vendors like QuickBooks who don't offer payroll as a standalone service anymore. I like that I can choose a service that fits my needs without constant upselling of unnecessary add-ons. It's simplicity and intuitive layout made the initial setup the easiest I've ever done, and it's my favorite aspect of the software. I would highly recommend it for anyone in a similar situation. I'm not sure if it's possible for them but it has the longest processing time for direct deposits of any vendor I've ever used. It takes so long that I will have to issue paper checks every time a holiday interferes which for businesses who process payrolls on Mondays is inevitable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
