## PaperCut Reviews
  ### 1. 12 Years of Loving PaperCut!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ahmed H. | Software Specialist, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

One new thing I like about PaperCut is how it keeps improving scanning workflows, especially with Scan Reporting and Scan Archiving in PaperCut MF 24.1. I also like the new Print Deploy client view because deploying queues to individual computers makes support and rollout work more flexible.

Another good change is support for Windows Protected Print, which helps modernize print environments and gives admins a smoother path for compatible devices. On top of that, PaperCut’s newer licensing approach in MF 24 makes subscription management and entitlements easier to handle across environments.

If I were answering in a more personal writer-style way, I’d say this: PaperCut feels like it is moving from just print control to a broader workplace management platform, and that’s what I like most.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

PaperCut is strong, but it could still improve by making advanced settings easier to configure, polishing scan navigation, and reducing version-related printer issues. And personally, we want in our company to be able to scan to SharePoint on-premises, not just in the cloud.

It would also benefit from even smoother mobile printing and simpler policy management for busy IT teams.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1- No problems. The benefits are it's very convenient. Easy to easy. Prints in mins after you log in.
2- Accurate tracking and analytics of print costs and overall printing metrics, while ensuring that sensitive information is printed securely per user. Additionally, our employees now have the ability to print to any copier within the building on the fly securely using their own secure print box.
3- Being able to monitor who is printing and charge accordingly so it saves money through getting more than 30 types of reports.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Heya Ahmed, thanks a bunch for sharing your thoughts. Very excited to see WPP mentioned. Microsoft's deadline is fast approaching (2027 at this stage I believe) and it's vitally important that workplaces have a plan for their printer fleet (especially the older models) for this driverless new world we're about to enter. More here: https://www.papercut.com/discover/the-complete-guide-to-windows-protected-print-wpp/

I did some burrowing to explore your sadness around the inability to scan to SharePoint on-premises. It looks like using a middleware solution is a good bet for you - something Umango, which is sold by one of our Authorized Solution Centers, ecoprintQ.

I'll pop the link below for you to explore.

  ### 2. Papercut a great printer management solution for Mac and Windows

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dylan A. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2024

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The local Papercut MSP we use to lease our printers and license Papercut through is difficult to work with. This is not necessarily Papercut's fault, but because we have to go through them as a licenser we have to go through them for support and it is a longer than preferable process to get Papercut's direct support.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

There have been multiple instances of Papercut updates that break printing on MacOS. Usually this is easily solved with an update to the Papercut software on the server running it, but it would be nice if the automatic updates to the Papercut clients on the end user machines wouldn't break printing on slightly behind server software.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Papercut is bridging the gap between Macbook and Windows computers in our environment. Instead of having to provision the same printer twice in each environment we provision it once in Papercut and scope it to the appropriate staff groups.

Papercut's "Follow Me" printing has also helped solve the issue of staff that move around our large school district. They can print to the "follow me" option and retrieve that job anywhere in the district they may be.

  ### 3. PaperCut : Simple, Reliable, and Cost-Effective Print Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

“PaperCut” is how easy it is to use while still offering powerful print management features. It helps organizations reduce printing costs, track usage efficiently, and improve security. I also appreciate its user-friendly interface, reliable performance, and the flexibility to work well in both small businesses and large enterprise environments.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

One thing I dislike about “PaperCut” is that some advanced settings and configurations can feel a bit complex for new users. The interface is generally user-friendly, but certain administrative tasks may require additional training or technical knowledge. In some cases, troubleshooting printer connectivity or driver issues can also take more time than expected.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

“PaperCut” helps solve problems related to uncontrolled printing, high paper and toner costs, and lack of visibility into printer usage. It allows us to track and manage printing activity more efficiently, reduce waste, and improve document security with features like secure print release. This benefits us by lowering operational costs, saving time for administrators, and creating a more organized and environmentally friendly printing environment. The solution is competitive with similar solutions and offers extensive integration with other software. This solution is well worth the money.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Whoa! Thanks so much for the thoughtful review. It’s great to hear that PaperCut’s ease of use, cost‑saving features, and security benefits are making a real difference for your organisation.

I definitely appreciate your feedback on advanced configurations as well. We’re always working to make the admin experience even smoother. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience on G2.

  ### 4. Easy to Manage and Integrate, but Support and Copier Compatibility Fall Short

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason L. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Ease of management, ease of integration, ease of accounting.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Support , or lack of direct support. Not all copiers supported despite claims.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are large private school, with a student body in the thousands and faculty in the hundreds. We have been using PaperCut for over ten years to manage our fleet of over 200 printers and over 20 copiers. We get the latest Xerox copiers and Brother printers from our VAR. This is our 3rd complete fleet refresh when support fell off the rails completely to make us doubt whether they know what they are selling. While it streamlines management with full integration with our hybrid environment seamlessly, we face struggles with support, or rather lack of. We are forced to deal with our VAR's divided support (they support all the printers / copiers they sell for all their customers) for 1st and 2nd level, and after them is main national reseller of PaperCut's support department when it needs to escalate to 3rd level, when some problems are clearly for developer to solve and only them. They have all quietly admitted to me they have not seen the latest Xerox copiers in person - specifically the PrimeLink C92xx - so how can they possibly assume to help me? It appears PaperCut is developed in Australia and does not appear to have a U.S.-based support.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hi Jason,

Thanks a heap for sharing your story. I would love the opportunity to dive deeper into what's happening if that's cool with you.

If you could contact customer.experience@papercut.com, I'll be very keen to understand your experience.

  ### 5. Reliable and Exciting products in development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geoff I. | ICT Service Desk Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Always easy to use and very reliable. I am really keen to see us as we venture towards PaperCut Hive and how that can help with our strategic outcomes in future.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Papercut were a bit slow to support ARM and their feature set of PaperCut Hive is still missing some of the features of PaperCut MF. Speed of development of Hive features.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Papercut manages a great interface for users to use the photocopiers with and allows for RFID login to photocopiers. Print charging is also used widely

  ### 6. Stopped Working and Customer Support was terrible

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan T. | Chief Operating Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

When it worked, it was a relatively smooth interface

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

The Papercut print option on my fairly new (<4 month old) windows laptop stopped appearing. After about 3 hours of uninstalling and reinstalling and running logs, I figured out that the software kept reporting that the WTS was Disconnected when it should not have been and the trigger was me locking my machine. I sent detailed logs to the support team and they replied that I should try factory resetting my laptop. V unhelpful.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It supposedly helps me print in a shared office environment.

  ### 7. Great product to manage all printers within your organization

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joran G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2023

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

PaperCut continues to be reliable and easy to manage. The reporting features provide great visibility into printer usage and costs, while secure print release helps improve security. Regular updates and centralized printer management make administration straightforward.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

The overall experience remains very positive. Some advanced settings could be easier to configure, and the administration interface could be more streamlined for complex tasks. Other than that, the product meets our needs well.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Insights and ability to centrally manage our printers.

  ### 8. Does the job and is widely supported

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The bugs, ironically, enough. Publicly listed "Known Issues" page means I don't waste hours troubleshooting something that's above my paygrade.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Better Azure Single Sign On support would be nice

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a school tracking student and teacher printing. Mostly we just need to be able to put limits on student printing but being able to view reports on faculty printing is very useful too.

  ### 9. Simplified Print management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jon G. | Help Desk Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2024

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Software is so easy to manage as well as being very customizable. Their Implementation team as well as support has been impeccable.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

At this point, I have nothing negative to say about the product.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Papercut allowed us to inforce and manage secure print with badge access at a global level.
Integrations with AD makes maintaining users and badges numbers a breeze.

  ### 10. PaperCut uncomplicates managed print services

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frank G. | Security Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2024

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

New things... nothing new for me in particular. PaperCut works as advertised.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I like PaperCut just fine. I like PaperCut just fine.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing feedback our administrative staff can reference to calculate financial budgeting of paper & toner supplies.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Thanks, Frank. "I like PaperCut just fine" is possibly my new favorite lowkey show of support for PaperCut! It really does just work. Good to hear we're helping your admin team, too. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

  ### 11. Efficient Printer Management with Robust Tracking

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** tedros c. | Owner/Operator

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I like PaperCut's user interface and the ability to add printers easily. The vast amount of guides available for third-party integrations is quite helpful, especially when working with active directories. It simplifies giving access to existing staff members without needing to set up new accounts for each person. I also appreciate PaperCut's great tracking abilities, including the ability to track jobs of printers not sent through PaperCut itself.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I would like for when printers get the red color next to them for being down, that PaperCut gives you as much detail as possible as to why it is down, most likely using the information from the printer. Also, there was a learning curve with the initial setup, but I got over it pretty quickly, being a one-man team.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PaperCut to allow staff to print, track usage, and get updates on printer issues and inventory.

  ### 12. Reliable, Easy-to-Maintain PaperCut On-Prem That Integrates Smoothly with Microsoft

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel B. | IT Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Papercut’s on-premise solution was very reliable, easy to maintain, and it integrated well with our Microsoft environment.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Their cloud hosted only option was a bit lacking. PaperCut Hive I have done a few demo's with, just didn't have the things we were looking for and tried to do too much.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Secure printing was a big must, and making sure we can securely release the documents was a huge benefit.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Thanks a bunch for your feedback and kind words, Daniel. And fair play regarding PaperCut Hive. It's been super exciting building out Hive's features, but MF has 20 years of development on it, so there's a bit of catch-up in play! Next time you check it out it'll be leaps and bounds ahead, development-wise.

  ### 13. Reliable Print Management for Kyocera and AD Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I like that PaperCut makes it easy to manage printing across the network. It works smoothly with our Kyocera printers and links well with our Active Directory setup, which helps manage users and permissions automatically. The card tap feature is really convenient, and I like the security it provides for releasing print jobs. It’s also great for tracking usage and keeping printing costs under control.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to configure, especially when setting up new printers or syncing with AD groups. Also when we apply the apply the updates some features of the Kyocera printer does not work. The reporting pages can load a bit slow at times, and the interface could use a more updated look. But once it’s all set up, it runs very reliably.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PaperCut helps us keep printing under control and saves a lot of wasted paper. It’s good for tracking who’s printing what and managing users through Active Directory, so everything stays organized. The card tap feature is handy for security, and it makes sure documents aren’t left sitting on the printer. Overall, it’s made our printing setup easier to manage and more secure.

  ### 14. Facilitate Printing with Simple Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fabio C. | IT Analist, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I appreciate how PaperCut contributes to agility in daily life, especially in its use with users, allowing for effective and direct synchronization. The system allows easy authentication for users through badge, CPF, or user login. I like the fact that if a job is not used, it is not charged, which is highly economical and efficient. The initial setup process of PaperCut was extremely easy, thanks to the support material provided, which is educational and well-organized, making the implementation smooth. This gives me confidence to recommend PaperCut, which I will do with enthusiasm, as evidenced by my score of 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I think PaperCut could have more ease in synchronizing with people from Google Cloud. It would be useful if users could send prints directly, without the need to have the printer installed. Currently, adding printers in Google Cloud for direct printing is a bit difficult to analyze without this prior installation.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PaperCut for agility in daily tasks and easy user authentication, without charging for unused jobs.

  ### 15. A Printing Lifesaver for Education

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian P.

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I love how PaperCut enables printing from iOS devices, which is particularly crucial for our school district as we lack iOS-native printers. This capability allows seamless printing on our enterprise HP printers, ensuring functionality with high-standard equipment. The feature to print from iOS devices is invaluable given that most iOS-compatible printers are not enterprise level like the HPs we use. Another aspect I appreciate is the ability to limit and control which printers different user groups, like students and teachers, can access. This functionality is essential for managing print resources effectively across our district, allowing exclusive settings, such as unlimited prints for teachers and restricted access for students at certain printers. Additionally, the setup process of PaperCut was straightforward and easy, involving merely an installation on our print controller. The initial ease of setup was significantly beneficial for integrating with our existing infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I dislike that PaperCut does not have an automatic active directory update feature. I have to manually update from the active directory whenever I want to refresh users and user groups, as it doesn't automatically recognize changes.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PaperCut to manage district-wide printing, control user group access and printing limits, and ensure efficient iOS device printing without native support, solving major management challenges in our school.

  ### 16. Easy Device Embedding with Strong Print Management.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nigel S. | Post Sales Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The print management function. The ease to embed the devices.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

From my experience thus far, there isn't much to dislike about papercut.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to track device usage.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Thanks, Nigel. There isn't much to dislike about your review! Providing a consistent device experience has always been front of mind for the engineering team. Workplaces often have mixed fleets and it's critical a team has the same printing experience regardless of brand.

  ### 17. PaperCut is simply the best server software to manage printers and printing.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JWA J. | I.T. Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

PaperCut is simply the best server software to manage printers and printing, especially in the corporate environment. Controlling, monitoring, tracking, limiting, and safeguarding company data, it does it all. Not to mention how easy it is to setup and configure... The automated sync for employee account is awesome. It takes no time at all to setup and configure. And best of all; It just works. No problems, ever. And all the extra features, such as cloud print, air print, notification, etc. Been using PaperCut since they first began, and I loved watching the Software evolve and grow. They listen to customers. They do it right.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

There are no downsides that I can think of. And I have been using PaperCut for a very long time.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can control, monitor, track, and limit all Printing and Scanning. It simplifies and automates by integrating with our Security Servers. It is a must to use in conjunction with DLP, to protect company data, and prevent exfiltration.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Whoa, thank you so much for the fantastic review!

We're so happy to hear that PaperCut has been a trusted solution for you since the very beginning. We built our print management software to "just work," so it's incredibly rewarding to know we've lived up to that promise for you.

We truly appreciate your kind words about our evolution and our commitment to listening to our customers. Knowing that our efforts have a positive impact on users like you is what drives us every day (I know, it sounds corny but it's true).

We're always working to improve and innovate, and your feedback is a huge part of that process. Thank you again for being such a loyal and valued member of the PaperCut community.

  ### 18. Boosts Security and Reduces Waste, but Hardware Challenges Persist

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Warren W.

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I appreciate how PaperCut reduces wasted print jobs and improves security by ensuring that no more print jobs are left on the printer, which previously risked sensitive documents being picked up by others. PaperCut's approach to waste reduction meets my expectations well.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I feel the print hardware that PaperCut uses is the weak point. Obviously, that is not part of the PaperCut product, but it is an essential component of the process and a critical touch point for the end user. There were problems with the setup originally. Again from what I understand, mostly around the hardware.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PaperCut reduces waste by preventing uncollected print jobs and enhances security by reducing the risk of sensitive documents being left at the printer.

  ### 19. Excited

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikolaos R. | IT director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

PaperCut is widely praised for its comprehensive print management capabilities that deliver significant cost savings and enhance security. Users appreciate the ability to track and control printing activity, which effectively reduces waste and promotes responsible printing habits. Key features like secure print release, which requires user authentication at the printer, are highly valued for preventing sensitive documents from being left unattended. Furthermore, its user-friendly interface simplifies administration, while detailed reporting provides valuable insights into printing trends. The software's flexibility in supporting various devices and operating systems, including mobile and BYOD printing, is another frequently lauded aspect.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

PaperCut is a solid print management solution, but it has notable drawbacks. The user interface can feel outdated and unintuitive, especially for new administrators. Advanced features often require scripting or API integration, which adds complexity. Costs can escalate quickly, particularly for organizations needing premium features like secure print release or cloud integration. Device compatibility varies, with some multifunction printers experiencing issues after firmware updates. Cloud offerings like PaperCut Hive lack the depth of on-prem versions. Scan workflows and integrations can be unreliable or difficult to configure. Support quality also depends heavily on the reseller, leading to inconsistent experiences across organizations.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PaperCut solves printing waste, high costs, and security risks by tracking usage, enforcing quotas, and enabling secure print release. It simplifies print management, supports mobile printing, and provides detailed reporting. This benefits users by reducing expenses, improving document security, and promoting environmentally responsible printing across the organization.

  ### 20. a stable and versatile solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beryl G. | Secrétaire Général, Primary/Secondary Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The PaperCut solution stands out for its great stability: it operates smoothly and reliably on a daily basis, without interruptions or major issues. I also appreciate its multi-system compatibility, which allows for easy integration on both Windows and macOS, as well as centralized management of printing across different environments. Finally, it is a fully operational product, ready to use upon deployment, making it an efficient and professional solution for print management.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

it is necessary to closely follow Papercut's security alerts in order to apply updates quickly

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

User account and quota management. The unique deployment of the same print queue.

  ### 21. Best Printing Management software on the Market.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timothy M. | Network Specialist II, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

We love using Papercut in our district. The ease of use of scanning our badges to release our print jobs is crucial. Year one, we saved over 1 million pieces of paper! I have also found out that some of our newer teachers were already familiar with the process from when they were in college...

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

So far, there isn't anything we dislike...

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We love using Papercut in our district. The ease of use of scanning our badges to release our print jobs is crucial. Year one, we saved over 1 million pieces of paper! I have also found out that some of our newer teachers were already familiar with the process from when they were in college...

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2026

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Awesome experience and support. Vendor agnostic.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Sometimes there are bugs and complicated fixes. But things end up working out.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having cloud print without on premises hardware needed.

  ### 24. Great for Cost Recovery, Challenging Setup

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tullio A. D. | Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I find PaperCut incredibly valuable because it helps ensure that the costs associated with file management are fully recovered when settling a file. This feature is crucial for maintaining financial integrity by preventing any profit leakage on a file. It provides a financial safeguard that reassures me about the efficiency and thoroughness of our cost recovery processes.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I found the implementation of PaperCut to be quite difficult and, in some cases, it bordered on a nightmare. The initial setup was not easy at all; it took many months and was problematic throughout.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PaperCut for cost recovery on copies and scans, ensuring that all costs associated with files are recovered, preventing profit leakage.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hi Tullio, I'm sad to hear the implementation challenges you experienced (our CX lead Rebecca gave me a rundown on everything); I'm glad to hear PaperCut's working great for you now. Here's hoping it's smooth sailing from now on.

  ### 25. Papercut and how it works

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark W. | Infrastructure Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The setup of the product and the way you can take the database from one site to another. or update the system from one pc to another

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

not knowing what all the function do and how to change.
ie change Admin password from 8 to 6 character or up it to a more secure 20 characters by default

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The administration of the printer and the way we can recover costs

  ### 26. Effortless Print Management for Large User Groups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shawn S. | Certified Academic Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The program is easy to use and accurately tracks users printing. I supervise a library and computer lab PaperCut makes dealing with printing accounts for over 300 users easy. It also easy to make changes to printing costs and restrict user accounts if needed. Customer support is very helpful when I need them. For example, I had a server failure and had to reinstall the program. Customer support made it easy.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I have not had any problems with the PaperCut program. The only issues I have had were the result of hardware on our department's side of things.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None that I know of.

  ### 27. It doesn't install with two clicks, but ultimately, daytoday management is streamlined and intuitive

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

User management is simple and intuitive, the reporting section is clear, and many useful reports are already built into the system and can be used right away

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

The installation is quite long and complicated. You need a Windows server where you first have to install the entire print server component and then install PaperCut, which still has to be set up almost from scratch in terms of printers.
Deployment with a single zone is not usable. It would be nice to have multi-zone for free and be able to choose printers from those already installed on the server, without having to clone them from a PC with a special application

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was looking for centralized management of printing and users, as well as streamlined management of billing and reports.

  ### 28. Streamlines big school processes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emma G. | ICT Lead/DP, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

PaperCut has made it really easy and quick for me to roll out updates to our printing system. The software is simple to use, runs smoothly, and is easy to navigate. We had a couple of small setup issues at the start, but they were resolved quickly thanks to support from both our supplier and the PaperCut support team.
The back end also allows me to keep costs under control, track high usage and reduce waste – great for an Enviroschool. There are helpful reminders for staff when printing, which cut down on waste by encouraging people to only print what they really need.
The secure printing feature means my teachers can send their documents to the printer, but the documents only print when they’re physically at the printer to release them. This prevents anyone else from accidentally picking up private or sensitive information.
Staff can easily install the printers easily via a link and very straightforward instructions - saves me sooooooo much time!

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Needs to have by the sheet quotas not just $$
Maybe look into the the clash with google - you have to shut your google chrome down to install the drivers.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlined integration processes
Managing wastage effectively
Cost-cutting controls
Environmental solutions
Secure printing helps us maintain confidentiality for our students and their families
Straightforward for all staff – even technophobes!
Timely support – we can easily speak to our suppliers and tech team, which is a huge benefit for us

  ### 29. very easy platform from admin point

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alessandro R. | IT Coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2024

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

I received a call directly from the company to do a free software update

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

It is challenging to update the server. I would like a function that updates automatically.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It can manage all the printing infrastructure - we are a school from nursery to grade 12, with all different rules and budgets.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hi Alessandro, love to hear good news stories coming from K-12. Appreciate your feedback.

  ### 30. Follow-Me Printing Is Fantastic, But Lacks Reprint Feature

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The 'follow-me' print aspect is a great benefit to our 19-story HQ, allowing people the ability to produce their print jobs from any printer in the building.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

We replaced NSI with PaperCut. The biggest complaint I receive is the lack of the ability for users to access and print previously printed jobs. We were told years ago that this would be a future component in PaperCut, but here we are years later and we still do not have this feature.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Printing accountability for our IT Security is a benefit, and the ability to retrieve print from any printer is very beneficial.

  ### 31. Decent Experience with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Monica H. | Technology Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

no fully cloud version as yet - familiar with Hive, but that is not really Papercut MF Cloud.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing access to printers for MacOS, Mocrosoft, ChromeOS and Android devices, tracking of use and better planning for replacement MFDs and printers based on usuage reports, ability to print from any campus location to anoth adjoining campus.

  ### 33. No Standout Features Yet

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason p. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

For now, nothing; it slows down the server and there's no other way to implement it.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Because I haven't received any support so far, having it installed puts a heavy load on the server and slows down all the services. Personally, I don't have a suitable option to apply it to my educational center. I've written, but they don't give me any options. Many different people answer, and they never follow up on the real issue.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For now, nothing; it slows down the server and there's no other way to implement it.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hey there Jason, keep an eye out for Rebecca's message to you. We're all across what's going on, and Rebecca will help you out with your challenge.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowed us to set up BYOD very easily which was what we immediately needed.
We also set up Follow Me printing on papercut

  ### 35. Good Product For Print Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin W. | Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Papercut has been easy to integrate and my users like it. Being able to print from any device is great and makes it so my users dont have to worry about not being able to print when they need to.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

The admin portal takes some getting used to. I am not the most tech savvy so it took me some time to get comfortable with it.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manage a private office suite rental business and we wanted to provide a shared printer as an ammenity for our tenants. PaperCut has given us an easy way to give people access to the printer and keep it secured.

  ### 37. Soid print management, mixed user experience.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Doug M. | IT Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

PaperCut is a solid print management solution with helpful features like usage tracking, secure print release, and ease of deployment.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

However, the user experience has been hit or miss, especially when it comes to print retrieval. There have been occasional inconsistencies that can cause confusion or delays for end users, which keeps it from being a perfect score.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to report how much we're printing in various office through the countries. This then let's us know the type of pinters to lease, and how many are needed.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hey there, thanks a bunch for taking the time to leave a review and for your honest feedback. It's great to hear that you find PaperCut to be a solid solution for your print management needs, and we appreciate you highlighting features like usage tracking, secure print release, and ease of deployment.

BUT... the user experience has been inconsistent for you, particularly with print retrieval. This is not the experience we want our customers to have. **What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Integrated nicely with our Microsoft AD so we can have SSO and use cards to release print jobs, and works with almost all our printers.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Sometimes it feels a little clunky, although for the most part nothing wrong.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Paper cut lets my school district easily manage printer access and control use, I don't know how it runs from an administration/setup point of view, although user end is great.

  ### 39. PaperCut Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth B. | Applications Administrator, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2019

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Update 4/1/25:
In addition to my original review, which is below, I will add that we have switched to a one-time print balance for students of $30 for two years, instead of $15 every semester. We have also implemented their Mobility Print and set up several printers for students to use from their personal devices for the last several years. That has been a success for the most part. We also started to slowly implement their Print Deploy client to certain machines, and eventually we will use that to deploy printers and not GPO. I also love that they are adding new features like the Microsoft login option (haven't set that up yet, but saw it in their User Sync options).

Original review:
Love the fact that you can set up different groups and apply different settings to those groups. We are a community college, and we have a policy for students where they have to confirm the print via the client software. Also, if they print color, a color notification box comes up to confirm they want to actually print color. Employees don't need to use the client (as of right now to print); it just keeps track in the background. It will send notifications to students via email and the client when their print balance is getting low and they need to purchase more. We initially give them $15 per semester to print.
Also we just recently implmented the mobility print feature and it works great so far, but still in the testing phase.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Currently haven't found something that we don't like about PaperCut. Their support team is great to work with if you have an issue and have always solved our issues\concerns.

**Recommendations to others considering PaperCut:**

If you are looking for a product that is easy to use and would like to help you eliminate wasteful printing, PaperCut will definitely do that. Out of box is easy setup, but can be configured to only print to certain printers, Has built-in scripting capabilities to enhance your printing options.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Be more responsible when it comes to printing and not wasting paper

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The release stations work well in our school, allowing easy 'find me ' print queues to be enabled. Installation was not difficult and it prompts if setup in a virtual environment. There are frequent updates and these are easy to apply. It's good how staff and students can view their balances easily and release any held print jobs.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Not much. You normally need to go through your reseller for support, but I've been able to contact Papercut support when needed.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy student printing and management, especially from BYOD.

  ### 42. PaperCut

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gareth H. | Reprographics Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Ease of use, user interface is clear to understand . PaperCut has a lot more functions than I have seen on other software.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Possibly better integration with other photocopier manufacturers rather than being installed on top of the printer software. I.e. Konica Minolta has better integration than Canon.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

N/A

  ### 43. Monitoring of prints

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hudson y. | T.I, Manufacturing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

The monitoring of prints and the easy-to-learn interface!

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I would like there to be more dashboard options

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There were many people in the company using the prints for personal things, and with Papercut, it was possible to see who these people are and no longer allow it to happen!

  ### 44. Not too promising as manual report on what we want, no AI

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

integrated to our Microsoft AD so we can have SSO and use staff card to release any print jobs in any printers

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

1. lack of report, especially from cost saving, user print out, go green directive

2. IT need to manual download a period of data and manual adjust it to become a management reports for our trend analysis and go green measurement

3. remote site office printer cannot consolidate, direct upload the printed data so we lost track !!

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BAD : handicap Data Analysis with Manual reporting

GOOD : can consolidate data in the same network, integrate to Microsoft AD

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hey there, thank you so much for your review! Appreciate the four stars, but disappointed you're not having a five star experience. My hunch is we may be able to suggest some ideas to help with your situation.

BUT... I do need to know which PaperCut product you're using before I can suggest those ideas. I'm guessing either PaperCut MF or PaperCut Hive.

If you could email me at marketing[@]papercut.com (or update your review with the version if you prefer), I can move ahead from there.

  ### 45. Excellent Print Control

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hudson Yuri T. | Tecnico de Informática, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2024

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Being able to control what an employee printed on a given day, block users' prints on a specific printer, and the control it performs

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

As for the CSV part, I really want to create a BI about it but I still haven't managed to generate a decent CSV.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a problem with print control and the number of pages printed per month. Today, I can monitor all the prints through our server and have the data on how many prints were made in the month!

  ### 46. Great service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Logan W. | Educational Technology Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Papercut was incredibly easy to set up in our environment. Managing the service is a breeze, and support is great.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

Print notifications aren't bundled into the print deploy client, which is inconvenient.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Papercut allows us to assign easily assign print drivers to users on ~100 devices. Needless to say, this would be incredibly time consuming otherwise.

**Official Response from Alistair Nestor:**

> Hello and thanks for your thoughts, Logan!

I appreciate your feedback regarding the print notifications. While we don't currently bundle the user client with Print Deploy, we understand that having a unified solution is more convenient. You can set up notifications using the PaperCut User Client, which is a separate small application that can be deployed to your users' desktops. This client provides real-time notifications about print jobs, account balances, and other system messages. You can find more information about this in our knowledge base: https://www.papercut.com/help/manuals/ng-mf/clienttool/user-client/

So to be clear, that would mean installing clients on each user's computer (the Print Deploy client AND the user client).

Thanks again for your review and for hanging out with us!

  ### 50. Papercut has reduced the number of hands on hours.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keith L. | Director of Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2025

**What do you like best about PaperCut?**

Installation went well and the product works very well. End users are able to walk up to any of the printers in the corporation and print...this has resulted in a huge time savings for our building level technicians who were spending hours adding printers to end users. Now it's just add one printer and the end users are happy.

**What do you dislike about PaperCut?**

I haven't found anything I dislike about papercut at this time.

**What problems is PaperCut solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Papercut has solved two major issues for us. The first is being able to correctly track the number of prints a user runs. This has helped us track down our abusers which has resulted in few prints being run. The second issue is the number of hands on hours the technicians were speding adding printers to end uesers and managing rights to printers. Now our technicians add on printer to the end user device during setup and they are done. They also no longer have to worry about adding the end user to the management software as we have things integrated with MS Entra, so that when a user is created on the network, the new user is added to Papercut via a sync.
