## OpenReel Reviews
  ### 1. Openreel-king of video creating world

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** bhoomi m. | Safdety coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2026

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

easy to learn for new user with number of features and integration . Impementation process is easy not much time tacking ,customer support is too good.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

nothing to say all feature and everything is good.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a part-time content creator, it is good to geet everithing in same platform like editing, hostiing, capturing, screening

  ### 2. Keeps getting easier to use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Whitney H. | M, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

With the addition of Webcam and Android phones to the platform, the app is accessible to just about everyone. Subjects (guests) find it similar enough to Zoom or Teams that it doesn't intimidate them. Great quality and controls for director make this a great tool.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Hard to find huge flaws. Recent interface upgrade to 2.0 improved director side control and ease of use a lot.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

If you regularly produce video content, this will be worth the investment.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduces travel costs and speeds up post-production timelines while still being able to direct and guide a subject. Through COVID, it became the ONLY way we could produce some of our new content, so it was a life-saver.

Now, we use the tech to produce internal communication pieces at an attractive price-point. The new UGC "self-record" link option is super easy for subjects to use, and the company keeps adding features that really support ease-of-use + great quality.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Whitney, thank you for your review. We are so happy to hear our latest Android release has expanded your reach! We are working hard to expand our offerings to provide the most seamless experience for Subjects and Directors. We regularly implement product updates based on customer feedback and you can stay up to date on those enhancements in our monthly Product Updates.

  ### 3. OpenReel makes it easy to capture high quality interview content remotely and reliably.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel J. | Media Coordinator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The quality is massively better than using webcam platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. The fact that content is recorded locally ensures there are no bandwidth issues that degrade quality.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Depending on the speed of the interviewee's internet connection it can take a very long time to upload files after recording is complete. Since they typically can't leave their phone to sit and upload, it would be nice if the app allowed them to copy the recorded files to their computers and upload from there.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

OpenReel far outweighs any webcam platform for capturing remote content and is a reliable way to record high quality footage without having to worry about the bandwidth of those you are recording.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem OpenReel has solved is being able to capture footage that is not limited by poor bandwidth. The fact that it records in 4K using the full capability of a device's camera is great.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Daniel, We are so happy to hear you're getting the high-quality video you're looking for without having to rely on a Subject's bandwidth. We really appreciate your product feedback and will take it back to our development team. We are always working hard to make the product the best it can be and improvements are often shaped by the feedback we get from our users. ### 4. Solves a lot of remote capture problems!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris M. | Senior Video Producer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

They have thought of everything - HQ local recording, on-the-fly uploading (wizard stuff!), the ability to control the camera's focus/exposure, teleprompters on phones or computers, countdown timers, and the ability to have multiple people run the controls at once. Onboarding people to the app is really easy as well.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Some of the interface features need toggling on an off to get working properly from time to time. Combined microphone and talkback functionality/workflow is a bit awkward, but I think a good portion of that is due to challenges with the virtual recording (without showing the person in headphones)

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Have their demo team show you around. It quickly becomes intuitive

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recording talent virtually and a low cost with high quality, compared to typical meeting software.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Chris, Thank you for your review! We're so happy to hear you find the tool comprehensive and easy to use! We recently made some changes with Professional Audio that may help with the microphone and talkback workflow you mention. Please check out the blog link attached below to learn more and let your Account Manager know if you have any feedback. We're continuously making improvements to the product to enhance our user's workflows. Thanks, again!

  ### 5. OpenReel is a great tool!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeannie L. | Creative Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel was a savior to our business during the pandemic when in-person shoots were not feasible. It captures footage locally so that there are no worries about picture quality or hiccups in recording due to wifi or network problems. Even post-pandemic, OpenReel is a great way for us to capture footage with colleagues who are in different locations effectively so that we don't have to send a team to travel and capture the shoot.

OpenReel techs were always available to us when we had high-profile shoots to ensure that nothing went wrong and help us troubleshoot if we had any issues arise during the filming.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Some of the downsides, that aren't necessarily the fault of OpenReel, is getting users up to speed on how to use the app and get the app downloaded. There were times where we ran into trouble because the user may have been using an older version of the app or they weren't able to log in to the session in a timely manner. We were always able to resolve the issue, and thankfully they were done during a pre-run-through - which is highly suggested.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits of OpenReel are that you are able to capture high-quality footage without being there in person. OpenReel is very easy to use and the OpenReel team has been very helpful in training and tech support.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Jeannie, thank you so much for taking time to write such a thoughtful review! We are so happy to hear you've had success with our tool while working remotely with your subjects. We are happy to hear you regularly schedule pre-run throughs with your Subjects, this is definitely a best practice to ensure everything runs smoothly the day of your shoot. I've attached a pre-shoot checklist from our help center that might be helpful to share with your subjects ahead of any shoots.

  ### 6. Great, easy-to-use, collaborative, high-quality video capture resource

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt R. | VP, Marketing & Communications, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel allows us to create the highest-quality video, quickly and in a way that puts participants and our teams at ease. It continues to improve with 2.0, making it even easier to use and better organized. By having multiple collaborators on the video call, we can easily divide and conquer - one directing, the other asking questions or handling the interview. Also, we can see what's happening, coach subjects and do multiple takes easily when we see something may not be right. The interface for downloading and/or converting the videos is also great. No more dropbox or email l inks. It's downloaded before we hang up.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

There are very few downsides. You still have to know a bit about video, formats and handling an interview, but the technology has worked well. The 2.0 interface and tools have improved many of the downsides from 1.0.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using OpenReel Capture we would not have done near as many videos as we do now. We used to let people shoot their own and just email or dropbox it to us, without knowing what we were getting. This way we can see and hear real-time, re-do takes, coach them and get much better results. Even those who are not good on camera, or who would not have done this on their own, are working with us and giving us usable video, when before, it would not have even happened, or would not have been used.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Matt, We're glad to hear our 2.0 update addressed some of your pain points and that you're now able to create more consistent videos than ever before! We take customer feedback seriously and are always improving our current offerings. You can stay up-to-date with the latest from OpenReel by subscribing to our monthly Product Updates to make sure you're aware of innovative features as soon as they're available.

  ### 7. OpenReel keeps video production rolling & relevant

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick F. | Visionary Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The quality of OpenReel's Capture 2.0 platform mixed with their now universal device type (Apple + Android) make it a no brainer for virtual video production. The local record capability on the device itself is also a game-changer when compared to other options available.

Package that all up with customer support that is always available and willing to help and you have the recipe for a successful video shoot each and every time.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

There really isn't much to dislike. There were some bugs early on, but like everything that scaled rapidly during the start of the pandemic it just needed time to work out. We haven't had any hiccups and all of our early challenges have been either addressed, fixed, or OpenReel customer support staff has educated us on proper usage of the platform to guarantee our success.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

I highly recommend this product if you are in need of supplemental video recording options or main video recording options due to travel restrictions or safety protocols. It is a great tool and has expanded our capabilities and relevancy.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenReel Capture has allowed us to remain relevant in a very challenging time for agencies whose success is largely due to the success of their video department. It has also given us the flexibility to record anywhere in the world almost instantly at any time.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Nick, thanks for your review! We're glad you've had a great experience with our customer success team and that our latest updates have addressed your pain points. We are always working to address bugs and improve our offerings to meet our clients' needs. Stay tuned to the latest updates by subscribing to our monthly Product Updates.

  ### 8. A tool for the times

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael R. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel is more than an app. It's a system that allows you to capture video files locally from a webcam or phone. This significantly ups the production value over a simple Zoom recording.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

There are still quite a few constraints during the recording process, and the cost is high.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Plan well ahead of time for your shoot. Prepare a simple gear package that includes a ring light, microphone, and iPhone adapter that you can send out. Talk to participants ahead of time so they know they're responsible for the setup.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm able to keep my video production company busy with lower-priority projects - one-off software demos, community activist interviews, and corporate newsletters. During the pandemic, in-person production has dropped off a lot as companies realize that some of the video work they were doing wasn't absolutely necessary. OpenReel fills a niche.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Michael, We are thrilled to hear OpenReel Capture has enabled your company to continue filming and given you flexibility when it comes to video creation. We love hearing how our customers are being successful with our software and the variety of projects they're completing. Between your software demos, interviews, and corporate newsletters, it sounds like you're staying busy creating an array of innovative projects. We are always working hard to provide our customers with the resources they need to ensure a smooth video shoot. You can find the latest resources on our Resources Hub or reach out to your Account Manager. Thanks again for your review!

  ### 9. Loving this tool!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The recording quality is excellent given the recording medium, whether it's an iPhone, an android phone, or even a WebCam. I love that it does not let the network bandwidth disruption affect the recording. I've been getting quality recordings remotely using this tool.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I have experienced some session failures based on the cache purge recommendations for using Chrome. Typically, I have to have my attendees clear their cache and on occasion, I've had to create new projects inside of the tool and resend invites. It has not been a huge issue, but it can be disruptive when you're on a time crunch.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The best problem being solved is not having to deal with bandwidth issues while recording. We have been able to utilize much higher quality recordings in our productions by using this tool.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hello & thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear you are receiving high-quality recordings across an array of devices. I'm attaching a link to our Help Center article on optimizing your Subject's browser for a shoot in the hopes that it helps your cache workflow. Our support team is also always happy to assist should you need any tech support on a shoot.

  ### 10. Honest Review to OpeenReel Capture

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adarsh A. | Business Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

It's an amazing video creation tool, the quality is far superior to Cisco Webex and Zoom. The app runs flawless, we have to record video podcasts and it serves as the best tool available with 0 lags and easy to use UI.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

At times, when we have over 50 people at a conference it starts to lag a little. And the render could also be made smoother. It could integrate some of the cool 3rd party API which people can use inside the app.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Video recording quality at low bandwidth is amazing. As we record video podcasts often, this helps to record our video seamlessly. Also, while recording the different videos, we can adjust our resolution fairly well, eliminating the pain of converting it to different form for different media streams

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Adarsh, thank you for taking time to make a review! We are so happy to hear you find our tool superior to conferencing software and are having success using it to record podcasts. We've recently made updates to our Professional Audio tool that may be beneficial for your needs. You can read more about it in the link I've attached below. We're continuously working hard to shape the product to our user feedback and appreciate your recommendations. I'll forward those requests to our development team and would encourage you to subscribe to our monthly product updates.

  ### 11. Intuitive with lots of options!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Director controls allow for exact selections for the scene media feeds, settings and quality.
I love that each feed is recorded seperately and locally and that the file can be uploaded as it is being recorded.
The teleprompter feature is a game-changer too!

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Nothing so far. The training sessions were sucvh a big help in getting up to speed with how the applicaiton opperates. Maybe something that could be usefule is the ability to add a simple title or lower thirds name card on top of a video source.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed to capture remote customers talking with someone in our video studio and send our studio camera feed through the open reel call and record the best quality remote video. We're able to do all of that!

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hello & thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear that you have been able to successfully capture customers remotely. We are constantly working on improving our product based on customer feedback and have your product requests on our roadmap. Please contact your Account Manager to learn more!

  ### 12. Awesome tech + stellar customer service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paige E. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel is highly intuitive and smart. They're consistently consulting with clients about what they want and need and improving the product. Most of all, the customer service is unmatched. I actually know the names of people who work there, who are available to help me IN THE MOMENT I'm having an issue. I have never been treated so well by a tech company. I know my experience matters to them.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Now and then, as with any emerging tech, things break.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tech to record high-quality video remotely makes it affordable to produce content all over the world.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Paige, thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear you find the platform intuitive and that you've had such a positive experience with our support team. We love helping our customers succeed. We appreciate your feedback on bugs and our development team is always working hard to ensure we are building the best product we can.

  ### 13. Professional interviews and presentations made easy.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

What I like best OpenReel Capture is the ability to bring quality recordings to one place. I also eally enjoyed using the teleprompter and professional audio features.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

What I disliked about OpenReel Capture is the learning curve because sometimes the product is clunky and not intuitive. I think this can be solved by having on-demand tutorial videos.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

I would tell others considering OpenReel Capture to go for it! If there's any issues or if they want a walkthrough, OpenReel support is always there.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem my company is solving with OpenReel Capture is being able to bring everyone technologically together and adjust everyone's tech to meet all the same specifications.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hello & thank you for your review! We are so happy you've been happy with our Teleprompter and Professional Audio features, as well as have had a positive experience with our support team. We are currently always adding to our learning center: http://academy.openreel.com/
It is free for all customers and I'd encourage you to check it out for tutorials and our community forum!

  ### 14. Good insight to OpenReel

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adarsh A. | Data Science Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The video streaming quality is amazing, and arguably the best in the industry compared to Teams, Zoom and Webex. The good quality still persists at low bandwith, with zero latency which is what we need.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Openreel is a great tool but it can add several different advanced features. It can also integrate third-party apps with API so that we can truely leverage power offered by cisco webex

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mostly use OpenReel for online sales pitches. So, having a great streaming quality at low bandwidth and zero latency is what we need and this is what OpenReel offers effectively eliminating to think us about other tools in the market

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Adarsh, thank you for taking time to make a review! We are so happy to hear you find our tool superior to conferencing software and are having success using it for online sales pitches. We're continuously working hard to shape the product to our user feedback and appreciate your recommendations. I'll forward those requests to our development team and would encourage you to subscribe to our monthly product updates.

  ### 15. Remote shooting software ideal for COVID and beyond.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brad H. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel video capture software has allowed me to continue working seamlessly with clients at a time of widespread COVID restrictions. The ability to use the client's phone camera has allowed me to shoot interviews with clients all over the country. The software lets me control focus and aperture on the excellent cameras on the later model iPhones, then upload to cloud storage for later downloading directly into my editing software. All the files are then automatically removed from the client's camera.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Shooting this way is convenient, but there can still be challenges, such as getting the client properly framed, some remaining digital audio glitching, etc. Phones still can't match the quality of great cameras with great lenses, but what you can achieve is truly remarkable and appropriate for many applications. What's more, these phone-based technologies will continue to improve.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

The reason I chose to use a software such as OpenReel as opposed to simply recording off Zoom or some other similar web-based app is because the video files are recorded directly onto the phone in full (even up to 4k) quality.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I originally chose the software as a way to shoot testimonials for a particular client from their customers around the country. Months later, when COVID restricted access to many office OpenReel became the primary means of getting any content at all for a variety of clients, even in my local market.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Brad, we are so glad you've been able to build your business with OpenReel Capture. Testimonials are a common use case for our software. We want to arm our users with effective tools they feel confident in; particularly, when working on a project with Subjects in various locations. We pride ourselves on being an easy and affordable way for people to capture footage. Take a look at our monthly Product Updates on our blog to stay up to date on the latest improvements from OpenReel!

  ### 16. The best remote capture solution I've found

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pat H. | Executive Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The video quality is very strong, you're able to utilize the 4k camera on an iPhone and external mic's to replicate a real shoot setup as close as you can. Quality wise it's a step down from a real production, but very usable.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The talkback controlls arent great. I find myself alwasy using zoom while i'm filming these to communicate with the person I'm filming. The audio controls could be better as well.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I didnt hav e a way of recording remote interviews outside of web cam apps and the quality of those wasnt great. This helped to fix that and gave me the option of doing remote shoots when needed.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks so much for your review, Pat! We put production quality as a top priority and are constantly working to improve our offerings to make OpenReel Capture the best remote video solution possible. We recently released a Professional Audio feature that captures up to 40% more audio data when enabled in a shoot. Read about it in the latest Product Update blog, and if you want to stay up to date on the latest product features and enhancements please consider subscribing.

  ### 17. Decent Solution

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The basic functionality of what you want openreel to do works well. You can record people remotely with some more control over their settings and get the local device recordings after the fact.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The interface is very clunky and not very intuitive or beautiful. Buttons and text are small, navigation is awkward at times. It feels somewhere between the MVP and a great UI. Hopefully they will get there.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use openreel to capture footage of people remotely, but save the local recording rather that a cloud recording. This allows us to use the highest possible quality video in the simplest way.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thank you for taking the time to submit a review! We're happy to hear you're successfully capturing high-quality remote video. We take customer feedback very seriously and are always working hard to make our user's experience as easy as possible. For example, we've made significant changes to the product with our 2.0 release and are regularly making improvements to streamline the workflow in the platform. We'll share your feedback with our development team but we'd also encourage you to share any suggestions with your Account Manager so they can get more detail.

  ### 18. Great tooling but some bugs remain

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The upload time of the files is mad! Very very fast uploading from a users device almost in real time. Great way to capture footage remotely and download to director.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I had some bugs where I ran a whole session and the session recording was unavailable for download. The file was showing as there but at 0kb file size with multiple recordings do the same. I also wish you had additional camera settings for Laptops and not just Phones.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Use it! It's a great tool with a great supportive team behind so definitely worth it!

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Close and reopen the app, resend out invites to new sessions and keep rinse and repeating until a working project has been found. I have also had difficulty running the TP app on there so use an external site/

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi & thank you for your thoughtful review! We are so happy to hear about how pleased you are with the Adaptive Upload tool. Our team takes customer feedback very seriously and is so sorry to hear about the trouble you had with a missing session. Our support team is always on standby in chat to help if this should ever happen again, they can often help locate it since recordings are recorded on a device locally and then uploaded. I will also share your request for additional camera settings across devices with our development team. ### 19. The best remote-filming solution!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali W. | Executive Producer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel is fantastic - easy to use, amazing customer support, lovely UX and straightforward steps. And best of all, the SPEED of download and quality is beyond.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Honestly, nothing yet. Everything so far has been a game-changer for our clients.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Just call Justin - he'll sort you out.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Turnaround time on filming, issues with talent (usually executives) fumbling with set-up, time delay in getting the footage from the talent, quality of footage (light, balance, colour, audio, frame rate, etc.), number of people involved in the filming, savings on equipment and i am sure there are more.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Ali -- thank you so much for your review! We are thrilled to hear you find our solution easy to use, timely, and our support team helpful. If you ever need additional support please reach out, we're always happy to help our customers in any way we can.

  ### 20. OR Capture User

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

It's generally pretty easy for the subject to set up the system. 2.0 seems to be more reliable than 1.0. I like the new upload during recording feature.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The image quality of 4k is almost indistinguishable from 1080p on most phones. Teleprompter is improved but still not amazing. It is way too overpriced for what it is but they can charge that because the alternatives just aren't as good.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Try to negotiate! As in-person production continues to expand and OR remains a valuable, but less critical, tool it needs to become more affordable for small production companies.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1.0 had a lot of issues. 2.0 seems generally better. Still is a problem when people get a phone call during a session (no matter how many times you explain their phone has to be on DnD).

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks for your feedback! We're always working hard to continually improve our offerings and work closely with our customers to provide the best remote video solution possible. We release monthly updates to continually improve our features and would encourage you to subscribe to our Product Updates articles to stay up to date on the latest from OpenReel. Thanks again!

  ### 21. Full featured, excellent support, premium price

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brent A. | E, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The system itself is simple to use and full-featured. Even if your subject is not tech savvy, it's easy for them to participate. In addition, the support is top notch! Onboarding is thorough, and makes getting started easy.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The ease of use and strong support comes with a premium price tag. If you have clients that are willing to pay, it's great. But there are other systems that have similar (not identical!) functionality at a much lower cost.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like many in the corporate video production world, my clients still needed to continue their communication strategies. OpenReel has been particularly helpful with key opinion leader videos and round table discussions. Clients constantly comment on how much better the quality is than when they record zoom meetings.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Brent, thanks for your review! We're happy to hear OpenReel Capture enabled your team with a simple, easy-to-use platform and thorough onboarding. We strive to provide the best quality support and continually work to make Capture the best remote video solution possible. If you want to stay up to date on the latest product improvements and features, I'd encourage you to subscribe to our blog for monthly Product Updates.

  ### 22. easy setup with client but it's missing some features

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor H. | Video Director/Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

batch uploads and downloads, multi-camera recording, entering scripts before recording, easy functional interface

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

lack of subject control when viewing the screen, teleprompter preview is always slightly off from client, calls coming in messing up recording

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Great customer service if you have issues. Our clients find it very easy to use, even those with little to no technical proficiency. The new interface is straightforward and easy to use.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

clients being able to leave sessions after uploads have started have helped us keep our record meeting times down

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Taylor, thanks for your feedback! We're glad to hear OpenReel Capture has been easy to use and set up. We are always working to improve our user's experience by listening to feature requests. For example, we released Adaptive Upload in February, which gives users the ability to upload files while you're recording them. This significantly cuts down on upload processing times. You can stay up to date on the latest improvements by subscribing to our monthly Product Updates!

  ### 23. OpenReel is a great workflow for professionals working remotely

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Xavier C. | Video Editor, Freelance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I love that OpenReel allows you to control interviewees' set-ups and settings.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The download process for OpenReel was somewhat more complicated than I would have liked. Also, the initial on-boarding process was a bit much.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

To thoroughly talk through the required hardware and software conditions with interviewees and co-workers prior to a session.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped solve issues with poor lighting and sound conditions for interviewees.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Xavier! Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are so happy to hear you love the ability to control your interviewee's set-up and settings regarding lighting and sound. We're sorry to hear that you found the downloading process tedious. We've recently made the ability to bulk download recordings by selecting the check mark next to the folder icon from the Directors seat. ### 24. Filming in a pandemic has added a new tool to our offerings

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** keith d. | Digital Media Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2020

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I love how it has multi-cam feature where we can shoot our subjects from two angles with two devices. It's also packed with all video features we need to capture knowledge from our subjects.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The pricing model. They charge for every minute recorded, rather than by good takes that we will end up uploading to the cloud. We often record many bad takes and are still charged for it even though we discard them before uploading.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

If you want to really care about your employees and practice safe social distancing and still have video projects you need to complete, OpenReel is perfect for you. The upfront pricing may be hefty, but in the long run, you will be saving money by reducing travel and keeping your talents safe.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the pandemic hit the nation, we've had to halt our filming projects as they were all filmed in our rental studio. OpenReel has solved this problem and is the reason we can keep our projects moving and help us satisfy our grants.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks for your feedback, Keith! We are thrilled that OpenReel Capture has enabled you to safely capture footage to continue moving projects forward. Your feedback is important so we can identify the areas for growth. We work hard to continually improve our offerings and work closely with our customers to provide the best remote video solution possible. Thanks again, for sharing!

  ### 25. A remote video capture tool like no other.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph S. | Multimedia Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2020

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel is the best way to capture high quality video remotely. We've been using OpenReel regularly for years and it has become our main way of capture content through the pandemic.

The intuitive and collaborative environment makes it easy for you to direct your subjects. The software combined with the recommended production items such as lavalier microphones and tripods provides results that are unachievable with any other platform. It gives us a competitive advantage and allows us to deliver high quality content to our clients.

Lastly, OpenReel's support team has been there for us from the initial training sessions to any questions that we've had along the way. They have been very responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

There aren't many downsides and any that do exist are addressed with consistent updates and development.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cost effective, high quality remote video capture.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Joseph, Thanks for your review! We take pride in making sure our users feel supported with access to our hands-on support staff and we're so happy to hear you've had a positive experience when working with them. We work hard to continually improve our offings and have monthly Product Update articles to ensure you have the most up-to-date resources to get the most out of OpenReel Capture. I'd encourage you to check it out to make sure you learn of enhancements as soon as they're available!

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I use open reel to capture alumni content. I use open reelto tell people about the organization I work for . Tell stories that aren't alway heard.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I feel like 2.0 has a few issues that having been figured out yet. Cause us issues where sometimes it recorded sometimes it didn't. .

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been able to show more content from all our sites and make sure divese is seen.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thank you for your review! We are thrilled to hear you've been using OpenReel to tell diverse stories. We're constantly working hard to improve the platform to be the best it can be. ### 27. OpenReel Capture

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel has been very useful in capturing HD video, remotely, that cuts more smoothly with our HD footage than recorded video calls would.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Initially, the lack of availability on non-Apple products was a downside, as well as the limited number of participants. However, both issues have been addressed, thankfully! There were some manual controls on version 1.0 that are no longer there on 2.0, but it's not the end of the world.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenReel Capture has made it easier to capture full HD video from a phone without too much trouble for the subject. We had previously created workarounds through video calls and local recording devices, and this is much simpler.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks for your review! We are happy to hear you're capturing HD video easily and eliminating the workarounds from video calls. We are continually working to expand our offerings and provide a more inclusive experience for all users. Stay tuned to our latest updates by subscribing to our monthly Product Updates blog!

  ### 28. Great Stories from Around the Globe

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Perry C. | D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The ability to truly capture great-looking video remotely. Secondly, focus on the creative direction and content by not worrying about technology.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

We need a microphone for better sound quality and a tripod for more creative framing

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been able to remotely walk through a location anywhere in the world and capture primary interview footage and b-roll with just a tripod, microphone an admin person moving the setup around the office.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Perry, Thank you for leaving a review! We're glad OpenReel allows you to easily capture remote video around the world. We love to hear how our clients are using Capture to film their footage. We appreciate the feedback and are always working to improve the product to better fit your needs. ### 29. A must-have now

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Everything works. I have never once had an issue where I had to redo something due to technical errors.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The default capture format appears to be webm, so you need to take an extra step to encode to MP4 before downloading off the platform. It would be nice to have it automatically do this, since most people are not going to be editing with a webm file.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to record people regardless of their location. While this is not going to match the quality of a production crew, smaller projects can save a lot by using OpenReel to record interview or b-roll content.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks for your feedback! We're glad OpenReel Capture fits your production needs and allows you to get the footage you need without being location locked. It's important to us to hear your feedback so we can continue improving the product to give you what you need to be successful. We are always working to improve our offerings to make OpenReel the best remote video solution possible. If you want to stay up-to-date on the latest product updates, check out our blog!

  ### 30. The best tool we've found for remote video.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark F. | Mac Systems Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Love that we can capture the full native video at the source without the compression or degradation that conferencing apps apply.
And the simplicity of use for the subjects makes it a win. And the OpenReel support team was amazing - responsive and proactive.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

When we started with OpenReel we found that the functionality around inviting participants - both subjects and collaborators was lacking. Once an invite was sent, it could not be changed, but also it was not visible in a session. Recently both issues have been resolved.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recording video content of remote subjects - across the country and internationally

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Mark, We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review! We work hard to continually improve our offerings and are glad we could address some of your pain points. We pride ourselves on working closely with our customers to provide the best remote video solution possible. We look forward to creating with you for years to come. Stay in the know with our Product Updates for feature enhancement announcements!

  ### 31. Great remote Online Production tool!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott K. | Faculty, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The customer service is very professional and helpful. They made sure to have a tech person attend our first production and were always available when we needed help.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The openreel platform currently only works with iPhones. It would be nice if there were a way to include all cell phone companies as some clients don't have apple products.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to scale our marketing and social media videos by working with the talent remotely. This not only cut our production costs but made scheduling the productions much easier.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Scott, Thank you for your feedback! We are excited to share we now support Android devices! Please check out the link to learn more. We are happy to hear you were able to cut costs and scale your video strategy overall. We pride ourselves in making remote video capture accessible and easy to use and so often those ideas come from users just like you. Thanks, again!

  ### 32. A qualified thumbs-up

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark P. | Director, Qlik Replay, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Remote through-the-lens iPhone controls.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Lack of support for iPhone optical zoom.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

Understand that OpenReel addresses the middle 10-15% of the remote video capture process and that what you do in preparation and post will still determine your ultimate success or failure, just as it does with any project.

OpenReel is a high octane tool with a steep learning curve, and its administrative interface is not something that I would unloose on the average business user. Despite (or because of) the complexity, it very elegantly exploits what the iPhone camera has to offer, with image quality and controls that far exceed Apple's own native app. Support and onboarding have been fantastic and the ease of file transfer from the iPhone is a godsend.

One thing that OpenReel does not have is support for optical zoom. Despite all the other brilliant capabilities, this gap has proven to be a near deal-breaker for us as we are forced to shoot wide and crop digitally in post.

I would also like to see support for other external microphone solutions, specifically USB microphones that couple with Apple's USB-to-Lightning adapter.

I have not used the webcam features nor have I migrated to version 2.0, so cannot speak to those.

All in all, I rate OpenReel highly. Just be sure you are ready to sweat the details.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of file transfer from iPhone. Image quality superior to iOS native app.

**Official Response from Teresa Hill:**

> Hi Mark! Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! The patented, granular settings do allow for a lot of details to be controlled by the Director. It's great to hear from customers, like you, who are continuing to push the boundaries of remote video creation, so we can use those learnings to prioritize our product roadmap. While Optical Zoom is on our roadmap, we think you'll be thrilled with the new mic detection and optimization updates in 2.0, as well as our 1080p webcam and screen recording capabilities for Subjects filming on their computer. Cheers!

  ### 33. OpenReel has been instrumental to capturing interview subjects for productions at Ithaca College.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giovanni S. | Senior Multimedia Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The customer service, training opportunities, and support materials have been a highlight for me. Every team member I've worked with has been extremely helpful during my time with OpenReel.

The OpenReel software itself was easy to learn and use. Within a week, our team was able to start using it in our productions. This meant we were able to stay within a tight deadline for our marketing initiatives.

Being able to capture the highest quality file from a phone or device has been huge. It's meant that our productions in a remote setting could have the polish that we were struggling with prior to using OpenReel. This also gave us more flexibility in editing, as we were able to capture many moments in 4K if we were using a new iPhone with a subject.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I'm eager for us to be brought into OpenReel 2.0. Many of the updates in the new version are solutions to the parts that I dislike about the current version. Right now, I'd say the way you can't bulk download or organize by projects in the current version is my biggest complaint.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

I'd recommend scheduling a demo with the OpenReel team if you can. If you can get a chance to see the back-end of what you'll be doing when using the software, it will start to click as to how you can start bringing this into your work.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At first, it was capturing interviews from home during the start of COVID-19. During the start of the pandemic, our Multimedia Team at Ithaca College needed to record messages for our virtual commencement ceremony and produce virtual tours of our residence halls. The ease of use to bring subjects into the OpenReel platform, give direction, and record the highest quality of source footage was extremely valuable.

But, I've now realized that our team could continue using OpenReel as another capturing tool for gathering a wide range of subjects as we move forward in productions at Ithaca College. I can see our team benefiting from this software beyond the struggles we had during COVID-19.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Thank you for the meaningful review, Giovanni! We're thrilled that our technology and attentive support staff have helped higher education institutions, like Ithaca College, film more nimbly and efficiently. It's also great to hear that you've been able to experience how the impact and benefits of remote video creation will continue to serve your needs even as the world normalizes. We can't wait for you to get your hands on Remote Capture 2.0 and utilize the bulk download and organizational features that are sure to help you glean even more value from the technology and streamline your workflow.

  ### 34. Quality and Convenience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick R. | Director of Marketing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I have extensive film production experience, so I found OpenReel highly intuitive to use. Moreover, it provides all that's needed to produce quality corporate remote videos. Now, what it genuinely phenomenal about OpenReel is how easy the tool is for a participant who has absolutely no experience as a subject of a filming session. They receive an email from OpenReel with an embedded link, they follow the easy prompts and that's it! From the participant's perspective, using their webcam or smartphone is so straightforward. And the feedback I have received hasonly been positive. And the suport team is fantastic.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I have not experienced any downside whatsoever with OpenReel.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

It's a no-brainer. Quality, ease of use, cost-effective, contantly updated with new capabilities.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

COVID-19 has prevented us from filming clients and board members' testimonials on location. Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is soon to be behind us, we have realized that we would continue to film content remotely. And OpenReel is a high production quality cost-effective solution

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Hi Nick! We really appreciate you taking the time to provide your valuable feedback. It's validating reviews like these, that energize the team to continue pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible with remote video creation, while providing a seamless experience not only for our customers but also their valued Subjects. We're thrilled that OpenReel has opened up new filming possibilities for your team and we look forward to continuing to innovate our solutions to even better serve your needs. Thanks again for sharing!

  ### 35. the best quality for remote recording hands down

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert B. | Lead Brand Photography and Video, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The 1080P or even 4K video quality of a subject's camera or iPad has been a life-saving, game changer to record executives KO else and even our patient stories.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The gain on the audio when recording with a external microphone, trying to have an actual conversation with the subject and not being able to use the first three to five seconds of audio makes it not practical. Second item that needs help is the teleprompter feature, having exact speed setting would be great rather than just sliding back and forth without actual control of timing.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to record a subject on an iOS device has raised the quality of the video production during this time of remote only recording and having control over color balance and exposure has been fantastic.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Hi Robert! Thanks for taking the time to share such valuable feedback. We're thrilled to hear that our remote video solutions helped you easily capture executives and patients without sacrificing high production value — our mission since day one. We're pleased to share that your expressed microphone concerns will be alleviated in our Remote Capture 2.0 platform update, and we've also completely overhauled the teleprompter feature to enable additional positioning, speed, and rich text settings that will allow you to better personalize it for your Subjects in real time.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

  ### 37. HD remote recording with clean audio. I can't find anything like OpenReel.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I can't find anything out there that records as nice as OpenReel with a teleprompter. The teleprompter was the biggest selling point for our leadership. They love using OpenReel and request it for their shoots. It makes them look good and sound good with clean audio & teleprompter. Even without use of the teleprompter, the quality can't be beat.

Quality -- Doing 4K interviews and staff messages during COVID-19 was amazing! OpenReel allows the director to take over control of the iPhone's camera. You can set record qualilty, focus, exposure, and white balance. OpenReel records in the iPhone that is recording using the OR Capture app, so even if the signal breaks up, it is uploaded with full quality depending on iPhone setting. We get great lighting results using a light ring!

Audio - OR suggested buying a "PoP voice Professional Lavalier Lapel Microphone Omnidirectional Condenser Mic for iPhone" from Amazon for $14. I was skeptical. But that quality has been so much better than not going with a mic. It's a tad overmodulated, but it can be fixed in post. Best part, I recently recorded an interview outside with a mower within 10 yards of the subject, the mower didn't exist on the audio. The iPhone and that mic got rid of the mower.

Overall - OpenReel is the best solution I've found and would highly recommend it. It gives you a peace of mind the the video and audio is being captured no matter what the livestream looks like. I once recorded an important interview and the livestream was so bad, I couldn't see or hear the subject. We used Zoom for the questions. I just guessed at setting the AE and AF. When we downloaded the video files later, everything was 100% and we couldn't have been happier.

Technical support is really good and they know their stuff. They have a 50/50 record of getting back to me during a shoot.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Price - OpenReel is really expensive. We purchased a suggested package for far too much, and we were never told that the time bought would expire. Buyer beware! Use it or lose it. We learned the hard way. I would suggest buying low and increasing over time. Also, must pay more to use service overseas.

Clunky UI - It just takes a lot of experience to get the hang of what works and what doesn't. Can't manually control iPhone exposure, but it shows you can. When you set AE (auto exposure), it doesn't lock it in on its own. If you lock it, the next time you go to set it, it unlocks the AE and if you forget to lock it, it drifts. Focus works fine. If you don't manually set white balance, it will drift the entire time (you MUST remember to manually set WB).

Almost unusable teleprompter - The teleprompter takes a long time to get a hang of, most never do. It's a great tool...but teleprompter control is extremely jittery. The recording iPhone needs to be hooked up to make most changes with the teleprompter (font size, white/black background, etc.). This was the biggest selling point for our leadership, but the behind-the-scenes is tedious.

No "Do Not Disturb" option - People who use their phones to record need to figure out how to turn their phones to "Do Not Disturb" or they get texts, phones calls, emails, etc. It would be nice if the OR Capture had an option for that.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well lit 4K using a light ring, good audio, plus the teleprompter, make OpenReel the only choice I've found for high quality recording.

**Official Response from Teresa Hill:**

> Appreciate your thorough review! We're thrilled to hear you've been pleased with our technology and support staff, while experiencing more peace of mind filming remotely using OpenReel. We try to provide as much value for our annual agreements and mitigate the extra operational costs of filming overseas as much as possible. We are excited to have OpenReel Capture 2.0 into your hands now. The updated UI features a clean dark mode and even stronger camera controls, allowing you to confidently set white balance, resolution, auto mic detection, pro audio features, and more. We've also updated our teleprompter so that you can save scripts across Sessions within a Project, set script status for your teammates, enjoy improved formatting options, and easily adjust scroll speeds and screen placement for your Subject. Cheers!

  ### 38. A true partner in creative production.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Glenn G. | Founder & Executive Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The level of support from purchase through implementation is exceptional. It's a surprisingly simple and easy to use, and the inevitable surprises in a project are easily handled by knowledgeable support staff. Moreover, they are so collaborative and responsive they get to the root of an issue- not just offer a band-aide.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

It solves the need for remote production at a low cost, so initially, we had to "settle" on things not being the same as in-person. Ultimately they continually refine the offer to address shortcomings (e.g., teleprompter functions) - so there are no shortcomings!

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

If your application has challenges, ask the OpenReel techs- they are creative problem solvers!

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenReel is like an anti-gravity beam to help us leap over COVID restriction hurdles. Allowing presenters to work from home makes them more comfortable and authentic. The simplicity of operating the technology makes the whole process approachable- presenters are willing to embrace it.
The ability for my Director to manage and coach "real-time" gives us a better finished product than simply receiving some poorly shot selfie video.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Appreciate the amazing review, Glenn! We're so thrilled to hear that you've been pleased with the ease-of-use of our platform and hands-on onboarding + support experience. Our team strives to provide white-glove service for all accounts, so your mentions of being a true strategic partner is music to our ears. It's great to hear that you've been able to offer a seamless filming experience for your Subjects and we look forward to delivering even better functionality — and more impressive teleprompter features to you.

  ### 39. Remote capture like a pro with OpenReel.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Conrad K. | Senior Account Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel Capture provided an essential service during the pandemic lockdowns and creates new opportunities for how we conduct business moving forward. The idea is solid and the technology is improving to match our needs. Something for me that sets apart this company from other remote capture solutions is the people on staff and how responsive they have been. The ability to capture high quality interviews with subjects wherever they are is opening up a whole new world of possibilities.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

There was a little bit of a learning curve with getting up and running. I have so many ideas on what I would like this platform to do and not everything on my wishlist is possible just yet. I am excited to see some of the new 2.0 features being discussed in action.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenReel Capture is helping solve the problem of getting high quality remote video interviews that traditionally would have required travel and additional time + money.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Thanks for your feedback, Conrad! We're thrilled that OpenReel has helped your team navigate the video production-related uncertainties of the last few months, as well as expand your video creation possibilities. Also, it's great to hear that you had positive experiences with our attentive onboarding and support staff when you were getting up to speed. It's rewarding to work with customers, like you, who can see the vision for the end-to-end platform OpenReel can be. We look forward to getting 2.0 into your hands and continuing to expand our feature set to help chip away at your wish list!

  ### 40. The Very Best of Remote Video Capture

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul G. | Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The quality of the captured video and audio is very high. I've been using OpenReel for several years and I'm still sometimes stunned at what I'm able to capture with the system.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

If I was still working with 1.0, I'd tell you that file handling, the teleprompter, and communications needed work, but all of these have been addressed in 2.0.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OpenReel Capture is the backbone of my small business. I work with B2B clients all over the world to create corporate videos that they use for promotional efforts, training, and corporate communications.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, Paul! Over the last few years, it's been especially meaningful to work with our long-time customers to help them make remote video their competitive advantage. We're thrilled your concerns have been addressed in the updated version of our Remote Capture platform and we look forward to creating with you for years to come!

  ### 41. Really powerful software!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Uses full video quality of iPhone and does not require going to a location

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Now that the audio issues have been fixed, there are very few things I dislike about this platform.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

For us, it solved a specific need - but the sales team should (and does) help potential clients think about just solving a one-time thing but using it as a future solution for many things.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we are able to quickly deploy interview kits and send them to talent as needed.

**Official Response from Teresa Hill:**

> Firstly, thank you for sharing your valuable feedback. We love hearing that we've enabled your team to quickly deploy interviews and empower your clients with new, innovative video solutions. We are also thrilled to tell you about our new Pro Audio feature, live now in OpenReel Capture 2.0. When enabled, echo cancellation is turned off, allowing you to adjust audio levels live in the shoot and get up to 40% more data in the audio file. We look forward to hearing what you create with this and our other new capabilities!

  ### 42. OR is a powerful piece of software but there are definitely some awkwardly designed features.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Recording on iphones and being able to see and control what is going on has been a big plus.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

No autoflip, no vertical recording (without turning my computer sideway), clunky invite system (though I know this was worked on for 2.0)

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

It's a great option for remote capture as compared to other platforms that we have tried.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we can't send a crew somewhere due to Covid restrictions or last minute shoots OR is an excellent solution.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thank you for your review of OpenReel! We appreciate the feedback from our valued customers so we can continue to improve our offerings and meet the needs of video creators alike. We're so glad you OpenReel Capture has enabled you to work around restrictions and the controls allow you to capture the desired footage, regardless of the device. We have made significant changes to our invitation workflow in OpenReel Capture 2.0 to make it easier for your Subject to join a session. We look forward to getting this new platform into your hands and expanding our features to fit your needs! ### 43. Great platform for capturing excellent quality video remotely

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The ability to have people with different role in a shoot is great. You can have someone directing while a camera operator manages the platform. Creative and account teams can give feedback in realtime.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Main limitation is the camera you can use - we use Iphone 11 which gives good quality but just has a lack of changeable lenses

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving the need to keep people apart during the pandemic.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thank you for your review! We are thrilled OpenReel has enabled your team to collaborate remotely. In addition to iPhone 11s, we support iPhones (model 7 and newer), iPad Pros, Android mobile devices, Android tablets, webcams, and DSLR cameras. I hope that helps device limitations you were facing. It's been important to us to make video shoots more accessible for distributed teams and want to provide an easy way for teams to integrate our camera controls directly into your workflow. We appreciate your feedback!

  ### 44. Complete control over your video production needs.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The control that you gain over your subjects. No need for a video production crew with lights, bounce boards, boom mics or lavs, etc. Everything that you would need for an extremely high-quality video is all wrapped up in an excellent web interface and mobile app.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

I could have written something here, but I have seen Version 2.0, and all of my nitpicky recommendations were solved.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The creation of efficiency between pre-production, production, and post-production. The ability to quickly move from calendaring a subject to filming a subject without the need to also calendar an entire production team (travel, etc).

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Appreciate your review! The OpenReel team is thrilled to work with higher education customers like you to help streamline video production workflows and create professional-quality video more efficiently, affordably, and sustainably at scale. We're so excited that your concerns have been addressed in the updated version of Remote Capture, and we can't wait to deliver that version to our valued customers! Thanks again for sharing your feedback with us.

  ### 45. Film people remotely at highest quality possible

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Final video quality is great, software is easy to use for both director and subjects

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

Teleprompter function is useful but doesn't work well since subjects' eyes are clearly looking away from their camera (at their screen!)

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solves issue of getting high-quality video from remote filming subjects, much better quality than e.g. trying to record them over Zoom or Skype

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Thanks for your review! We're glad to hear you find Capture easy to use and navigate from both sides of the camera. It's important to us to make video shoots accessible from remote locations with the highest possible quality. It's also great to hear your feedback so we can work to improve the tool. Some best practices we encourage is to maximize the script print so the Subject's eye line is minimal when using the teleprompter. We look forward to expanding our features to fit your needs while still providing the highest quality video. Please check out our Product Updates to stay in the know on the latest and greatest!

  ### 46. ALLin Reviews Open Reel

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

Open Reel solved the biggest problem during COVID-19. Namely, how do you record video without putting folks at risk. This software allowed us to pivot and remain profitable in spite of a global pandemic. What else needs to be said?

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The only downside of Open Reel is the cost. Truth be told, it is cost prohibitive so most small businesses can't afford it.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

I would recommend that anyone interested in OpenReel talk to their team. They are flexible with contracts and have a great technical assistance team.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefit is ease and convenience of team work. We can have a smaller team on site for recordings and the rest of the team available for support through Open Reel.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review! We're always looking for ways to provide more value to our customers by continually improving our offerings, and also providing strategic account management and timely customer support. It's great to hear that you're leveraging our solutions both in the field and remotely — we're inspired and energized by customers like ALLin who are pushing the boundaries of production with OpenReel.

  ### 47. OpenReel Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesse S. | Freelance Videographer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

OpenReel is intuitive and easy to run remotely on our client's devices.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

-Incompatibility with Android devices
-Resolution/frame rate limitations with webcams
-Occasional upload errors where footage is lost

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've realized that we don't need to be on-site for every shoot, and that's a huge time saver. Even after COVID has passed, we plan to use OpenReel for interviews for quick, long-distance interviews.

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Hi Jesse! Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. We're thrilled that even as things normalize, you've realized the ongoing benefits of remote video creation. We think you'll be excited to utilize our crisp 1080p web and screen recording capabilities in the updated version of our platform, and also will enjoy our exciting roadmap that addresses your concerns and further improves your remote storytelling experience. Cheers!

  ### 48. The OpenReel Staff has wonderful correspondence (and always speedy!).

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The quality of video OR capture, the ease of use once tutorial is completed, the knowledgeable, accomodating, and friendly staff!

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

It's not yet useable with all mobile devices, quality if recorded via webcam doesn't compare to that of an iPhone

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Much easier setup and record with one phone, and one tripod/ring light! The video quality is amazing as well (using iPhones - computers not as great),

**Official Response from Lindsey Hotaling:**

> Thanks for leaving this review! It's particularly meaningful for us to support small businesses and help them offer additional use cases at affordable rates for their clients by using remote video production to remove common logistical hurdles posed by going on-site.

We love hearing that you've had positive onboarding, impactful support, and easy filming experiences. With Remote Capture 2.0, our latest platform update, you'll reliably be able to film 1080p on webcam and screen recordings, which will help level the playing field between iOS mobile devices and our web offering. We're putting the finishing touches on 2.0 and can't wait to get it into your hands!

  ### 49. Using OpenReel Capture has been a GAME CHANGER

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edie C. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2020

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

I love the ease of use, the functionality and most of all their amazing support team. The price to use this product fits my budget and my clients love the end result and so do I.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The only current downside is that they are not yet compatible with all Android smartphones, but that's really not their issue it's due to the phone's operating systems.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

I highly recommend using OpenReel if you ever have a need to remotely capture clients using video.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OR Capture has made a HUGE impact on my business and the lives of my clients. It's enabled me to offer a video production service and experience that would never have been possible. I'm able to help my clients easily batch record their videos in most cases less than one hour each month.

**Official Response from Logan Ferro:**

> Hi Edie, Thank you for your review! We are so happy you find the product easy to use and have has a pleasant experience with our support team. We're constantly working to improve our product based on customer feedback and are excited to let you know OpenReel is now fully compatible with Android devices. Stay in the know on product updates in our blog!

  ### 50. OpenReel has created a solution for a very tight situation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Motion Pictures and Film | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about OpenReel?**

The ability to control the phone's settings, and their wifi settings.

**What do you dislike about OpenReel?**

The audio is a bit of a gamble sometimes. If the audio is coming hot, there's not too much you can do about it.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenReel:**

If you need an efficient way to record someone without the use of a camera person, OpenReel is the way to go.

**What problems is OpenReel solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest issues is getting interviews from people who are the most susceptible to Covid. OpenReel provides a very clean solution for that.

**Official Response from Teresa Hill:**

> Thanks for your feedback! We're happy that OpenReel's ease-of-use and remote capabilities have empowered your team to shoot interviews over the last many months, especially with Subjects who may not be able to participate in a shoot otherwise. We think you'll be excited about the new Pro Audio capabilities in OpenReel Capture 2.0, which is available to you now. For example, if your Subject is on AirPods, you will be prompted to turn Pro Audio on; this setting allows you to adjust audio levels during the shoot and get up to 40% more data in the audio file. Cheers!
